Hey pookies <3

Just FYI: the frobot who was sent to kill Anne was also sent after Valerie. he's got a double mission

I'm not gonna write anything else here, just go on, enjoy the chapter

-

Cheers erupted in the car as the group pulled up to the supermarket. For some context, Anne and Valerie had spent some time making the frogs disguises, and now they were hoping no one would notice how peculiar they looked.

"Not so fast, you four." Mr Boonchuy said as he locked the car, looking to the what seemed to be four living being in the back-- even though Sprig and Polly had a shared disguise, so it counted as five. "I mean- you five."

"We stick together in there," Anne's mom chimed in from the driver's seat. "Understood?"

"And if anything goes wrong," the man next to her spoke once again. "It's back into lockdown for all of you."

"Understood." Valerie nodded at the orders from the adults, saluting dramatically.

"we got it, we got it," Anne agreed from next to her, shrugging her shoulders. "Now let's get shoppin!"

The five were quick to stumble out of the car and run towards the shopping mall, excitement and smiles filling the air.

-

Gasps erupted from all of them as they entered the market, looking at the surrounding fully stocked isles of food and gadgets. Valerie was happy that shopping was finally going to be made easy again, back in amphibia- nothing was categorized and it was all pure chaos.

"Oh mah lord, I can't believe I forgot how much I loved shopping." The brunette's eyes were wide with sparkles as she looked around the massive place, before a certain sign caught her eye.

clothes.

Oh my god, the teenage girl in me is squealing.

"I'm gonna go check out the clothes section. BYE-"

Before Anne could stop her, the girl was off into the endless section of clothing.

However, as the girl was shopping, she felt something... lurking over her almost. She didn't bother to look up (she knew how horror movies worked, and she wasn't going to be the first out) so she simply ducked in between a couple of pieces of clothing.

What was that?  Valerie thought to herself, looking around as the presence seemed to dissipate.

Okay, don't panic-- but I think the King sent some kind of frobot after you to kill you. At least, that's what my notes say-

Wait, that's actually kind of funny. Someone sent an assassin after the assassin.

"hah!" Valerie snorted to herself out loud at the train of thoughts, before noticing Anne and the Plantars slurping away at noodles at the nearby noodle stand, and she was quick to set that as her walking course. "hilarious..."

"Enjoying the noodles, guys?" the brunette asked casually as she slid up in the seat next to Anne and unintentionally scaring the girl half to death.

"Val- how the heck- did you just teleport?" The Thai girl asked, blinking at her friend. The clothing isle must have been pretty far away, so either she ran, or teleported.

"we may never know."

"that wasn't even a proper grammatical response to that question!" Anne exclaimed out at the girl, doing the mad Italian hands with the pinched fingers.

As the two girls continued their little joking back and forth, and the two seemed to be holding in their laughs from the stupidity of what they were arguing about, Sprig suddenly chimed in with a yell.

"Killer robot!" He exclaimed, pointing to behind the two, which opted both of them to shut up and shift their gazes to where the frogs finger gestured to.

Only to see some cute doll on top of a shelf.

Valerie was the first to turn back around, seeming skeptical, her eyebrow raised and face twisted with confusion. "what?"

"Sprig, for the last time," Anne said, following the older girl's example as she turned back around with a reassuring smile on her face. "not everything is a--"

She was cut off when two, metallic hands seemed to capture both of the teens and hoist them up into the air.

Valerie grunted and squirmed around in the unusual feeling of metal against her clothes, trying to shimmy her hands down through the fingers gripping around her to reach her knife.

"come on, come on..."

Out of the corner in her eye, she saw a bowl of noodles hit the invisible robot (more specifically, Sprig's half-eaten bowl of noodles, which in her eyes she saw to be kind of gross) and for some reason the frobot became visible.

Huh, you were right Gold.

Did you expect me to not be?

Suddenly, the brunette felt the claw around her vanish. Her eyes widened as she took in a quick second to scan the area. The frobot that had just let go of her had managed to catch the bowl of noodles that Hop-Pop had thrown in it's direction and was now throwing it back at him-- Anne was close to hitting the ground, and to be fair, she was too, but she managed to catch herself, landing in a dramatic hero pose.

As the noodles hit the tables all of the Plantars stood on, it collapsed and they all fell back. Valerie was then quick to grab the collapsed Anne's wrist and drag her up, ushering the Plantars to follow her. "Run, you idiots!"

"That robot must be from Amphibia!" Anne shouted as she and the others ran down all of the different isles, trying to escape the robot. "But how did it get here and what does it want?!"

"Andrias has the box, you earthworm! And it wants to kill us!" Valerie yelled back to her best friend, before quieting her voice. "I think."

"Well it doesn't matter, we just have to take this thing out before my parents notice anything wrong--" Anne started, before the brunette behind her paused, eyes wide.

"uh, Anne?"

"wha- Oh!" The Thai girl seemed to stop in her tracks as she noticed that her parents were right there in front of them, she backed up, smiling nervously. "Mom, dad! hi!"

"Oh, hey guys," Mr Boonchuy replied nonchalantly, his smile seemed normal. "How were the noodles?"

"so good." Anne said, starting to sweat as she tried to keep her composure, knowing that they were being chased by a killer robot.

Valerie next to her nodded, knowing she was a much better liar than the girl next to her-- so she decided to save her. "sorry about your daughter, she's just nervous that you don't want the Plantars to help with the shopping list. We were wondering if you'd mind us going off by ourselves for a little while again?"

"yep!" the Plantars underneath her cheered, nervousness radiating off of them, but they just hoped the adults wouldn't notice.

"Oh, that's... actually quite thoughtful," Mrs Boonchuy said with a smile. "Can you also go get a mackerel from the seafood counter?"

"Oh yeah, no prob." Anne said quickly. Then Sprig tugged on her arm, gesturing to the floating red eyes with a bowl of noodles right above it-- and a sigh left Valerie's lips.

"Yeah, we're just gonna circle back after we do some shopping. Okay? okay." the girl then nudged Anne's shoulders, starting to run off in the opposite direction from the frobot.

"Can either of you use your glowy powers to get us out of this?" Hop-Pop asked as they made their way aimlessly through the international foods isle. "take it down easy-like?"

"Powers, powers!" Polly cheered from underneath the coat, throwing her little arms up a couple of times in an attempt to encourage the two.

"I would if I knew how to use them!" Anne said as she desperately looked down to her hands. "I'm not sure it's something I can just... do whenever. Val, you said you can control yours, right?"

"well, uh, yes, but I risk blowing up the building." Valerie said, keeping her eyes forward. "plus I might creep people out cause when I go full power I start to float and glow like it's the conjuring-"

"And my parents can't notice anything is wrong! So that's off the table."

"boo!" The pink pollywog said in disapproval, before her older brother above her chimed in.

"So what do we do? It'll draw way too much attention if we fight a robot in the middle of a store!!"

"It's okay, I have a plan." Anne chimed in, looking over at everyone as they all gathered around to hear it-- where they were out of sight, of course.

-

The plan was simple-- Anne was going to play loud rock music on her phone through the speakers of the supermarket to make it cover up any noise that it might make, and that way they could hopefully fight off and destroy the robot.

They all began to fight with the robot after Anne covered him in flour-- which made him more visible for them to attack. They all just seemed to randomly bat and wrestle him around with their various weapons- and Valerie did manage to get a couple stabs into some of the less important areas-- but as the robot backed off and got ready to pounce on the group...

...A little old lady with a shopping cart came by, and it just ducked away. To be fair, all of the squad had to hide their weapons they had in their hands behind their backs.

"Huh, that's weird." Anne noted, her face turning more serious. "Looks like the robot doesn't wanna get caught either."

After the old woman passed-- the frobot went right back to what he was doing, grabbing some nearby bags of rice and throwing it at the select members of their group, specifically one aimed directly for Valerie-- which she put her hands out to block, but instead, a flash of gold light emitted from her palms, which then broke the packet of rice, the dry beads scattering across the floor.

"Retreat!" Anne called out as she noticed Hop-Pop get hit with a bag of rice. In a moment of panic where to go, the squad all ran into the 'employees only' room...

-

...Which was a freezer full of fish and meat, as such.

They all hid behind something as they heard the sound of metal dragging along the floor, which ended up going past them.

"I'm getting real tired of this guy." Anne said in a low whisper, in order to not be heard by the robot they were all being chased by. "Anyone got any ideas?" She then looked to the frogs beside her, who were, unsurprisingly, frozen in ice.

"Anne, they're frogs. Body temperature." Valerie chimed in next to her, to which her best friend looked at her with deadpan eyes.

"yes, I know, I get it. What about you? Got anything going on up there?"

"Other than the voices of my past coming back to haunt me? nope."

Before the conversation between the two could continue, there was the sound of metal being squished behind the two startled them, and they were met with the glowing red eyes of the killer robot.

Anne tried to throw a punch in the direction of it, only for her fist to be caught and used against her as she was slammed brutally back against a pile of bagged ice.

The frobot then proceeded to turn to Valerie, who grabbed out her knife and circled him dangerously. The girl's eyes narrowed, before she launched for him, managing to drive her knife into where it's wrist was. But unfortunately, she got a little too close to the hand, which gave it an opportunity to grab her and slam her back against the ice as well.

She felt metal claws start to dig into her ribcage-- and she let out a groan of pain, clenching up her features at the feeling of sharp metal poking against her skin.

She felt pain shoot through her, and she looked down, clenching her jaw, preparing for the worst. As her breathing got heavier, she felt that familiar tingling sensation coarse through her veins. Her fists clenched, one of her eyes flickered to gold, and the frobot dropped her after an electric shock ran up his arm, and it then turned to the frozen frogs behind it-- which had somehow managed to move to try and protect Anne.

Need a hand?

She heard Gold's voice ask. A smile overtook her face as she noticed Anne starting to glow blue beside her, due to the fact her frog family was about to get killed by a laser.

Yes, I really do.

Her eyes were now overtaken with gold, her eyes moving up from the shadows, as her feet started to barely float off the ground-- nothing more than an inch. Her body became engulfed in the gleaming aura of that select color.

"If you think we're gonna sit here while you hurt our friends," Anne said as she got up, looking to the brunette beside her, who let out a piercing, high-pitched chuckle, that was overlapped with Valerie's usual voice.

"Then you got another thing coming!" Goldrie finished with that smile tracing her lips changing to a lopsided smirk.

The two of them launched forward, Anne throwing a punch at the robot from underneath, which single-handedly seemed to break half of the robot's body, part of it's metal just disappearing as electricity crackled through the air.

Goldrie then proceeded to disappear behind him, grabbing the robot, and with a beam of golden colored light-- managing to send him back towards one of the metal walls.

The frobot then started to glitch from being invisible, then back to visible, with electricity cracking off of it every single time. Then, it managed to somehow tear apart the metal wall it was on while still invisible, and move away from the scene.

The gold faded from Valerie's eyes as she noticed Anne, next to her, who looked incredibly tired. She moved a hand to pat her best friend's shoulder, before the Thai's girls eyes looked down towards a mackerel-- which just so happened to be sitting there.

"huh, that's convenient." Valerie shrugged, before helping her move the frogs outside.

-

As they all made their way out of the freezer, Sprig's ice cube was the first to crack, and of course-- the first thing he said was congratulating his human best friend for using her powers. "Anne, that was amazing! You guys weren't kidding when you said powers," he looked back to Hop-Pop behind him.

"Yeah, do the punch again!" Polly, who was still half-frozen underneath the pink frog cheered. "Anne?"

Valerie's eyes widened as she looked to the girl next to her, who was on the verge of passing out. She scooted forward, not wanting Anne's head to hit the ground-- so she was quick to launch out her arms and make sure she was safely placed back to lie down.

The rest of the frogs just burst out of their ice-cubes as they noticed the girl-- who looked half dead, and Hop-Pop turned her over onto her back. "Come on, Anne, come back!"

"Is she okay?" Polly asked worriedly.

"She'll be okay-- those powers take a whole lot out of you when you're not used to them." Valerie, at this point, had been using her powers since she'd basically been transported to amphibia, so she had been practicing-- plus, the fact that the gold gem never ran out of power, meant it's user never ran out of energy while using it-- which, in her eyes, was incredibly unfair.

But, technically, the entity living in her head was the one that controlled the power usage, so she wasn't really doing anything-- except being able to use a small amount of it, on her own.

"well we gotta do something!" Polly spoke again. "If her parents see her like this-"

"I've got an idea!" Sprig chimed in, putting up a finger. "I'll be right back!"

"-And durian to the rescue!" He said, coming back quite quickly with the stinky fruit in hand. Valerie pinched her nose, prepared to smell the unholy stench in the air.

As soon as the fruit was put near her face, Anne woke up like she'd just woken up from a nightmare, with wide, red eyes. "Ah! No! Get it away! Hop-Pop? Val?" She asked as she noticed the first two people standing over her.

There were choruses of relief as Anne was tackled in a hug by everyone, they were all just happy she was alright.

"Hey, there you guys are," The sound of Mr Boonchuy's voice snapped them all out of their moment. "How was your supermarket journey?"

"It was great!" Anne said as she got up, some of her nervousness leaking into her tone. "Just walking around a boring, old, supermarket."

"Yep, it was just the thrill we needed!" Valerie added on next to her with dramatic finger guns, letting a laugh escape her.

-

It was later that night, the stars were shining as bright as ever outside, and a certain light-skinned brunette was sitting upright in her bed, curled up in her sheets, unable to sleep.

Usually it was times like this where Marcy and her would have deep conversations, talking about what life might look together in the future, what they wanted to be when they grow up-- all while in each other's embrace, laughing until sleep inevitably took over.

But Marcy wasn't here.

And that killed her inside.

But her eyes refused to cry.

So here she was, lying awake at night, staring up at her ceiling. She then reached her hand over into her bedside table, which lay the note from earlier, and after a second of preparing herself, she unfolded it.

At first, she was puzzled. This seemed to be a mix of a few of the languages she knew-- Russian, French, and Italian, she knew all of those plus English (although she was likely rusty in all of them, she hadn't spoken them for a while) and it was enough to confuse her, and possibly even translators, but after a minute, she got the hang of it.

The rough translation went a little something like this.

Hey sweetie.

You know we'd never actually leave you here like this. We love you, and we want to keep you safe.

But we understand that sometimes, being too overprotective can keep you from learning who you are and what your destiny is. We're sorry if it ever feels like we don't care-- trust that we do-- it's just that our family has had a history with the weird things of this world.

We think it's time for you to know the truth about our bloodline, so that you can know the truth about yourself.

You know where to find us if you want to talk.

Lots of love xx

Valerie paused as she finished reading it. What did it mean by the truth about her family? The truth about who she was?

She was quick to grab a blank piece of paper and write a note on her bed, saying she would be out for a couple of days-- and to contact her in case they needed proof she was okay.

She then climbed out of the window, making her way towards where she lived. She walked for about twenty minutes in the cold night air before she managed to reach a house that looked relatively large, it was three stories and painted in black, with big fancy gates out the front and gardens along either side of the pathway that lead up to her door.

"home." She whispered to herself as she pushed the gates apart, managing to squeeze herself through as she made her way up to the house's entrance.

A knock was sounded couple times by her fist, and as warm white light came across her face and the squeak of a doorway opening, one thing hung surely in the air.

It was time for her to know the truth.
