Yes, this is a Kuchel x reader but it's following the plot of 'Garden of Words' so Kuchel isn't gonna be in every scene. But of course she'll be in majority of them.

"This morning, the Kyushu, Chugoku and Shikoku regions report the start of rainy season five days earlier than usual. The activity is due to the seasonal rain front, and Nagasaki, Kasuga, Kumamoto and Kagoshima, a very wide area, are experiencing rain." The news was playing on my TV as I stood in the kitchen of my apartment, slicing tomatoes on the bamboo cutting board.
After the tomatoes, I cut some cucumbers, boiled some ramen on the stove, preparing a meal for myself to eat as dinner. I set aside a plate for my brother since he should be home soon anyway.
I turned off the TV before heading up to my room, "currently, heavy rain and flood advisories are-" I hit the power button on the remote, tossing it onto the sofa afterwards.
My shoes were still wet and soggy from the rain water as i walked up the stairs, leaving behind a damp footprint.
"I'm home." I heard my brother call but I proceeded to my room. I had left his food on the table in clear view for him to see.
"Hey!" I shouted to make sure he knew I was home.
"I bought some croquettes!"
"Dinners on the counter"
"Thanks (y/n)"
"Your welcome"
"Wait come down here a sec!"
I sighed in annoyance and rolled my eyes, spinning on my heel to head back down the stairs.
"What's up?" I leaned my body up against the
"Where's mom?"
"She left us"
"Lucky us. That leaves us with all the croquettes. Did she say anything?"
"Just the same thing. There was a letter saying not to look for her. Is this really okay? I mean maybe we should-"
"Let her be. She always comes back after fighting with her boyfriend, right?"
I shrugged my shoulders, looking over at the letter sitting in the center of the kitchen table. My leg was crossed over the other, my fingers tapping against my uniform skirt.
"I've picked out a place. I'll be moving out next month."
"Living alone?"
"With my girlfriend"
"Could that be why mom left? You didn't tell her, did you?"
"I wish she'd learn to let go of her children. She's the one making the rounds, dating younger men. It's disgusting."
"Calm down, don't talk about mom like that. She looks younger for her age, so what?"
"That's because she's had it easy her whole life. You're the one who looks like 100 miles of shitty highway."
I scoffed and kicked off the wall, turning back into the stairwell, "okay, you can do the dishes. So I don't age."
I went up to my room, well it was my office/bedroom. I had all my supplies and necessities to create some of the clothes I was designing. I had a mannequin, sewing machine, an array of fabrics (all of different colors and textures), push pins, needles...you name it I've got it!
I've invested a lot of my money into this, of course I go to college and I'm enrolled in the necessary classes for fashion but I've been teaching myself most of the basics since high school.
It's been my dream to see my own designs while window shopping, or even on a fashion runway.
I changed out of my school uniform, setting aside my socks and shoes in front of the air vent for them to dry.
I was finishing one of my latest designs, of course it's not like I have anywhere to sell it to so right now it's mostly just for fun.
My room was messy, my sewing materials were scattered and loose fabrics were just laying around.
My brother had gone to take a shower, his room was next to mine so of course he walked past me. He's older than me but damn he gets on my nerves sometimes. He can be really immature.
"Won't you be glad to have more space?"
"I guess"
"Help me move, Kay?"
"Sure, whatever"
"Hey, have you heard of this?"
That's right, I had written the words down the girl at the gazebo said,
A faint sound of thunder.
Cloudy skies.
Maybe it will rain.
Stay with me?
"No idea. Ask mom when she gets back."
I nodded, taking the note out of his hand and setting it back on the desk in my room.
Time Skip to 2 days later.
I woke up to the sound of heavy rain colliding with the glass panels in on my window.
"Its raining" I mumbled to myself, scratching my head and feeling my messy and tangled hair.
I quickly got up, throwing on my school uniform once more and thankfully my shoes had dried out. I kept my hair down, spraying some product into it and combing through it to get the tangles out.
I grabbed my backpack, gently putting my sketchbook back in it and checking for my school supplies. I took once last glance out of the big window in my room, the view was overlooking the city and the rain droplets had blurred some of it out.
I grabbed a granola bar and opened the wrapper, taking a big bite and tossing the rest into the trash.
I munched on it as I grabbed my umbrella and left my apartment, my brother must've already left for work since he wasn't home.
Skipping morning class wouldn't be too bad would it?
I went the same path as yesterday, taking the subway to Shinjuku Station then walking through the busy streets and crossing at crosswalks.
I was headed to the gazebo in the garden, part of me was hoping to see that girl again. She was so intriguing, so mysterious, even though we barely exchanged words I wanted to see her again.
I skipped over puddles, trying to avoid soaking my shoes again.
As the hut came into view my heart fluttered when I saw the girl and her baby carriage again. She was also wearing her uniform and had a can of beer in her hand, the same as last time.
Her gaze was focused on the lake again, the rain still hadn't let up much. It didn't rain yesterday but rainy season was reported to have started early so it will probably be like this most days.
I stepped onto the stone platform, alerting the girl that I was here.
"Welcome back" she said with a smile on her face.
"Good morning"
When I sat down I noticed the baby was out of the carriage, it was a little boy, probably a year old. He looked just like her. He had stormy blue eyes the same as hers and black hair too. His was styled in a undercut and their facial features were practically identical.
He was playing with a chocolate bar in his hands, teething on it like a chew toy. He looked over at me and I waved, a soft smile on my face.
I pulled out my sketchbook and began to draw once more.
As time passed I'd occasionally glance up at the girl or the baby. For such a small baby he was pretty well mannered, didn't cry once.
The girl would watch the scenery and sip on her beer, she'd talk to her baby, pointing out small insects or telling him to stay out of the rain. I thought it was really sweet, but it was hard to tell whether or not it was her brother or son.
"Hey"
I almost dropped my pencil when I heard her call out to me.
"Is there no school for you guys today?" She asked.
"I just skipped, but what about you? Is SU closed today or something?"
"I skipped again"
I smiled at her, setting my pencil and sketch book down next to me.
"And drinking beer in the park in the morning with a cute little baby apparently" we both giggled, seeing her smile made my stomach fill with butterflies.
"Beer alone isn't good for your health, maybe you should eat something too"
"You sure know a lot about that shit"
"Oh, it's not me. My moms a big drinker so I've picked up a few things"
"I have some snack, you know" she grabbed something out of her bag, glancing over at the baby next to her. He was the best behaved baby I've ever seen, quiet and not whiny. Other kids should look up to him as a role-model.
She pulled out a thick stack of candy bars, some falling onto the floor since her hands couldn't hold them all. She had a smirk on her face, "will these do?"
"You just thought, 'the girls nuts' didn't you?"
"Your not crazy I just wasn't expecting-"
"It's okay. We're human, after all. We all have our quirks. I promise I'm saner than most."
"We do?"
"We do."
Time passed, I hadn't sketched anymore instead I enjoyed the scenery and sound of rain around me. It wasn't awkward between me and the girl, it was a peaceful silence as the rain fell.
I checked my phone, seeing as my next class would start soon. I'd probably get in trouble for skipping the first one already, it would be bad if I got in trouble in another class as well.
"Well, looks like it times for me to get going"
"Heading to campus?"
"The rains letting up and I make it a point I can only skip school on rainy mornings"
"Well, then maybe we'll see eachother again. I mean, it's gonna rain again."
"Hopefully we will... oh by the way, I never caught your name. I'm (y/n)"
She picked up the baby and sat him on her lap, "I'm Kuchel and this is my son, Levi"
Kuchel...
