Kusuo Saiki P.O.V

that was a few months ago.

the guy Toritsuka was referring to is called [Y/n] [L/n].

just as Toritsuka predicted, his classmate was moved to my class. apparently it was the teachers idea and [L/n] didn't even want to switch classes.

Toritsuka was right however. this guy is super average! and since he's in my class i don't have to worry about making an excuse just to take a peak at him!

Satou ended up moving and changed schools not to long after [L/n] switched into my class so i guess it's okay that Satou thought i was weird.

out of all the weirdos in this class he managed to befriend the most normal people here.

granted the most normal people in this class are Sawakita, Zolbe, and maybe Takahashi or Hairo but they're the closet thing to normal we have and he somehow managed to befriend all of them.

but that might change soon considering Hairo is thinking about introducing him to his other friends like Nendo, Kaido, and i. that'll ruin it, as of now he's the most average kid in school and now Nendo's here to ruin that.

i would do something but that'd look suspicious so i won't intervene.

"[Y/n]!" Hairo walked up to [L/n]'s desk, "wanna sit with me at lunch today? i wanna introduce you to some of my friends."

he looked away from his phone and up at Hairo.

for your own sake [L/n] please say no.

"sure why not. Takahashi is sick today anyways so it would've just been Zolbe, Sawakita, and I." he gave Hairo a smile.

seems like he's feeling better, good.

oh yeah i forgot to mention, [L/n] has been really quiet recently. outwardly anyways. inside he was always thinking, always worried.

he told his friends why and of course i know as i can read his mind but besides that no one else noticed he even changed. one of the perks of being average, no one notices when you're having an off day. how lucky.

oh well, Hairo sits at the same table i do so maybe i could actually become friends with this Average-Joe and blend in better.

and on cue the lunch bell rings.

[L/n] pulls out a wooden bento box and waits for Hairo to grab his own. i couldn't help but notice Hairo had the exact same box.

they're matching? was that on purpose or a coincidence?

i never got an answer because Nendo grabbed me by the collar of my uniform and dragged me to the cafeteria.

for once i wasn't dreading sitting with these loud-mouthed hooligans for lunch because Hairo was giving the perfect opportunity to talk to an actually normal person.

"you seem happier today Saiki, did something happen?" Kaido asked. guess i was being obvious. i didn't respond, Nendo just kept dragging me along.

not to long after Nendo, Kaido, Aren, and i sat down Hairo and his friend sat down at our table.

"hey guys, you don't mind if [Y/n] sits with us right?"

no one protested so they both cracked open their lunches.

the box is the same on the inside too? they really are matching. Kaido noticed too and pointed it out.

"you guys have the same lunch box?" they both nodded.

"we bought them together. " [L/n] said with a smile before starting to eat.

"yeah but why are you matching?" Kaido said with a mouth full of food.

"we thought they looked cool and there was only two left. it was like fate! they're like friendship bracelets but cooler." Hairo said with his normal huge smile.

[L/n] had tonkatsu pork with rice and lots of vegetables. it also had a small bag in the corner filled with some type of colorful candy. his lunch looked like something my mom would make me but according to his thoughts he made it himself which is odd.

everyone i know has lunches made by their parents. my mom insists on making mine and would get upset when i'd eat the schools food in middle school. either way it didn't look half bad.

"you want some?"

uh oh, guess i was staring. at least i wasn't staring at him specifically.

before i could say anything he uses his chopsticks to transfer a couple pieces on top of my rice. he also put some of the candy on a napkin and passed it to me.

i could tell now that it was konpeito which is pretty good for hard candy.

i nodded a thanks before Kaido asked for some of his candy too. "sure, here!" he poured some into Kaido's hand. at first i thought he was just doing it for a good impression but. . .

'i packed a lot of these. i should give some to everyone so we can all have some!'

he was only doing it because he could? he had the option to so he chose to share instead of hogging it all. you wouldn't think that would be surprising but it is.

since i can read minds i know exactly why everyone does anything. when it comes to sharing it's usually because they just don't want to say no and seem selfish.

"umm it was Nendo right? do you want some too?"

Nendo didn't even notice you had them and you offered it anyways? "oh sure, thanks buddy!"

Nendo cupped his hands under the baggie and let [L/n] pour them into his hands.

he offered some to Hairo and Aren who both declined.

"i'm okay, thank you though. what's your name again?" Aren asked.

"oh right i didn't introduce myself!" he closed the bag and set it down on the table. "i'm [Y/n] [L/n]. thank you for letting me sit with you guys!"

as dumb as it may sound i didn't expect him to be nice just to be nice. considering the last normal guy i found myself focused on called me weird this is a nice change of pace.

we all continued to eat and everyone talked amongst themselves. eventually i decided to try the tonkatsu he gave me and it was actually really good. though he didn't notice until after it was all gone.

'oh hey he ate the pork i gave him! i hope it tasted okay, i've never made tonkatsu before.'

it was very good, thanks. though i didn't bother to say anything out loud.

'i haven't talked to that pink haired kid before. i feel bad that i don't know his name yet.'

he noticed i was looking again and gave me a small wave. it didn't seem to bother him at all but i couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed.

"hey i'm sorry, what was your name again?" he turned his body to face me.

what a normal conversation starter! being surrounded by these idiots all day makes me envy those who get to have normal conversations like this.

i thought about using my telekinesis to talk and just using my mind control to make it seem like my mouth was moving but i couldn't help but actually want to speak.

granted it made no difference but that's something i rarely do.

"Kusuo Saiki."

"Kusuo, huh? depends on how you look at it but doesn't the kanji mean camphor tree? those are really pretty!"

i guess that's one way to look at it. considering my circumstances you could split it and have it mean strange-hero but a tree works too.

i nod a little in response.

"i like the really big ones! they look like giant bonsai! have you seen them before?"

he motioned his arm to express how big they were. i knew exactly what he was talking about but i shook my head no just to see what he would do.

"for real? hold on i'll show you!" he pulled out his phone and started typing.

just as expected. he's looking up the plant to show me a picture. this perfectly normal conversation is definitely the highlight of my week so far. i couldn't help but smile a little.

he stood up and quickly slid to my side of the table, leaning down and showing me a couple pictures on his phone.

"they do kinda look like bonsai." i said quietly.

"they're cool aren't they? i think so." he gave me a smile from over my shoulder. i nodded in response before he sat back down in his seat and ate some of the konpeito from the bag.

for anyone else, these type of small talk conversations would be completely redundant and boring. but because of my powers and the weirdos they seem to attract i love small talk. i rarely have these conversations and they make me feel normal which i appreciate.

i'm glad [L/n] switches into my class, maybe i'll finally have a normal friend.
