jay stops chewing on his breakfast cereal when sunghoon pops out of his room just to spew some nonsense.

when he got home from the homecoming, this annoying ass prick had already arrived at his penthouse. as much as jay doesn't want to see sunghoon's face, he doesn't have much of a choice since he's the real owner of the house.

he rolled his eyes and continued to eat, but sunghoon was persistent. he sat in front of him while still holding a toothbrush on one hand.

"you didn't actually dump him, right? answer me."

"i sort of did."

"holy-" sunghoon gasped as if he just heard the biggest news of his life. "ain't no way, you and jake are together now?"

jay looked at him, judging. "what the hell are you saying? of course not."

although i did give him a chance... i should at least try things with him, right?

"but i heard some things... you sure you're not dating him?"

"what did you hear?"

he shrugged, trying to look innocent. "nah, i was just kidding. anyways, any plans for today?"

plans? jay sighed. he doesn't have the energy to go out of the building. he left quickly right after the talk with heeseung at the alumni event because he felt like he was out of breath.

he needed some air. alone.

so jay took his car and left. he even forgot that he was supposed to drive jimin home, and he had to listen to her yapping for about five minutes on call.

"you were supposed to fix things! fix, jay! it's not like you're doing rocket science, so why the hell are you still not clearing it up with those two? i don't want to say this, but gosh you are so stupid. and the audacity to leave me here? YOU WANT ME TO RIDE A BUS?! WHAT THE F-"

he ended the call right after hearing her loud ass cursing. jimin and her harsh words.

jake also texted him that night, informing beforehand that he got jay's new number from sunoo.

he also asked if they could meet today, and jay replied with a yes.

"you look worried. did you do something stupid?" sunghoon's voice stopped him from overthinking.

"shut up. i have plans today, why?"

sunghoon sipped on his coffee before speaking. "okay, nevermind then. have fun," he chuckled like something was funny.

jake stared at the picture posted by yonsei on twitter before turning his phone off. he sighed, putting his forehead on the steering wheel of his car.

they look... great together.

seeing that photo brought memories to him. he remembered the tension, the way those two would always glance at each other and then pretend to ignore each other's existence. he remembered how he used to think that it was all just friendship, nothing else.

friendship? he chuckled bitterly.

bullshit.

he hated himself for it. for being dense and not figuring things out back in college. if he wasn't too dumb and focused on heeseung, he would've noticed his best friend sooner.

then maybe, things wouldn't have to turn out like this.

he wanted to fix what he destroyed. so when jake saw jay again, he tried to ask for one more chance.

jake was expecting jay to say no.

but he didn't.

was there a reason? there must be. what is it? can i hope for something?

he brushed the thought off him. he shouldn't be selfish. not again.

jake raised his head when he heard a soft knock. he smiled when he saw jay peeking through the window of his car, grinning while waving at him.

heeseung breathes deeply before shoving the phone away from his face. "i already saw that." he walked away while his friend trails behind him.

"well, did you atleast save it on your phone? i'm sure you did. want me to give you a copy? nishimura sent me the file yesterday."

he ignored sunghoon's words. he saw the post last night and it looked like they were enjoying each other's company.

but that's not what happened.

"or should i print the photo and put it in a frame? you can hang it on your roo—"

"the photo was taken right after jay told me that he gave jake a chance. so can you tell them to delete the post?"

sunghoon looked away, clearing his throat. "uh, sure. in fact i can delete it right now."

he continued to follow heeseung as they reached the lobby of the penthouse. heeseung was supposed to rest for the day, but sunghoon decided to pester him and asked to join him for a jog.

but still, it's better to keep his mind off somewhere else than to let it overthink.

when they got outside of the building, they felt the morning breeze hit them. that made me feel better.

"feels great right? you should exercise more often. it's good for the heart," sunghoon snickered, like he just said something funny. annoying prick.

the two of them ran a few laps around the area. it took them about one and a half hours and then circling back to the building. when they reached the front parking lot, heeseung slows down— almost suddenly halting when he sees someone familiar.

"yikes," he heard sunghoon mutter behind him but heeseung's too focused on what's in front of him.

he stared as jay knocked the window of a car. when the window rolled down, jake's face came into view. they laughed while heeseung continued to watch them— watch how jake can make jay smile in less than a second. watch how jay looks at jake like he's the most important person in his life.

he just stood there and watched as they slowly fell in love with each other.

i lose.

it's game over for heeseung.
