Homunculi's tail hits Ed knocking him back, a wide grin on his face. You and Ling run under the monster.
Ling's blade slicing a large and deep cut under its stomach. Shoving your clima-tact into the cut an Egg lodged into it.
Pulling him along as the Egg hatches and a storm erupts throughout Envy's body, lightning striking his veins, frying his insides.
But as soon as they happened he healed as he slumped down.
"Run Ed!" you both shouted. "You bastard!" Envy's raspy voice echoed.
His hand rushes out and slammed into you, sending your back flying into a rough textured column.
Grunting at the impact, your mouth fell open, blood flying out. Falling to the ground Ling was knocked to the side.
"[y/n]! Ling!" Getting up Ed ran forward, blade reared back and ready to stab.
"Alright Envy! Time to die!" Sucking in a breath he stopped, standing face to face with one of the heads protruding from Envy's body.
Tears streaming down it's green cheeks like waterfalls. "Help me. Kill me." It pleaded.
Shakily Ed lowered his automail. "Help me die. I beg you, please kill me. Please!"
The sides of his mouth ripping, another head breaking through its mouth, only this time it was cackling.
Taking a step back he examined the other faces. All of them were crying, screaming, and pleading.
Snapping back to reality when the tip of Ling's sword, stabbed into the head of the laughing figure.
Feeling the pricking of the blade Envy swiped at Ling who jumped away, taking Ed with him.
Coughing you finally gained enough strength to stand back up and hobble over to the boys.
"Snap out of it! Why didn't you attack him?!" Ed's eyes shook. "A person. Those are people, they need our help, they're trapped inside him."
"That's a trick Ed, he's a monster."
"But they-" Grabbing onto his shirt collar Ling yanks him up. "Listen to me! Those things are monsters!"
Looking over at Envy, you watched as more faces began to grow from where Ling had stabbed him, all of them yelling out their final words.
"Just shut them out or cover your ears." You urged, running forward.
Nodding the two followed after, Ed covering one of his ears, needing to use his other hand.
But suddenly he came to a stop, frozen. "I'm done playing with you." Envy remarked, grabbing hold of the alchemist before throwing him onto a concrete slab.
The sound of your voice echoing as his vision blurred.
The brownish hands and faces of Envy's tongue seeped out, grabbing onto the blonde, lifting him towards the homunculi's open mouth.
"Open your eyes Ed, please, wake up!" You pleaded, kneeling besides Ling. "Wake up!" Ling groaned, grasping his side in pain.
Your eyes widened as Ed was pulled into Envy's mouth, his teeth chomping closed, breaking off some of the moving pieces of his tongue. "Ed, no!"
Tears glossed over your brown irises when Ed's leg suddenly kicked out one of Envy's front teeth.
"Open up Envy, your breath is killing me!" His muffled voice shouts. "I think I got a way to get us out of here!" He claimed.
You all gasped in shock. "Come on Envy, let me out!"
—
After some convincing Envy begrudgingly spat the blonde out.
Sitting around a fire, using some stick and a few of Ling's bandages you tie them around Ed's flesh arm as a splint.
"There, that should help." You stated. "Thank's [y/n]." Holding his arm as he sent you a smile.
At the sound of stomping you all turned to Envy. " I collected all the fragments I could find." He said.
"So this stuff. It's all from Xerxes?" Ling questioned as you looked at the rubbled you sat around, all detailed with old languages and special markings.
"That's right. They're pieces of a large mural from what remains of their temple." Ed explained.
"When I saw the remains of the mural up close I thought it was identical to the transmutation circle from the fifth laboratory, the ones they used to create philosopher stones. But it's actually different. The sun represents the soul, while the moon symbolizes the mind."
Reaching out he placed his hand onto a slab of the circle. "And then there's the stone canvas of the mural, this represents the body."
"Slow down. Try to keep it simple, okay." Ling urged. "Basically, the mural was a summoning circle, for human transmutation."
"I do know that one. Well I think I do. It's used to bring back dead people?"
"Alchemy is based on the rule of equivalent exchange, you can't transmute a life form from a soul that no longer exists in this world. You can trust me on that one. So this is where I got the idea to get us out of here. I can't transmute the dead, but what would happen if I transmute myself."
"You mean a living person?" You asked. "Exactly. I can use this transmutation circle to deconstruct myself, then I'll just put myself back together. That's human transmutation, and it'll open the portal."
He turns to Envy. "You said Gluttony is a defective portal of truth, it'll be that if we pass through the real portal we'll wind up in our own reality." He claimed. "I'll open the real portal and then you three jump through it."
Your brows frown. "What happens if it goes wrong?" Envy's voice echoed.
"Then it'll rebound. A failed transmutation ricocheted onto the one who performed it and in this case, that would be me."
"I'm not gonna act like I know anything about alchemy, this is all yours." Ling said as you nodded in agreement.
"Right." Raising a brow he glanced over at Envy. "Hey, Envy I got something else that I wanted to ask you."
Letting out a confused grunt, its purple eye stares down at the short blonde.
Using a rag Ed uses blood from the ocean below to draw a transmutation circle. "The particle mural I saw in Xerxes, it would've looked more or less like this."
Kneeling down he pointed down at a symbol.
"The first thing that caught my eye was this. "The symbol for God is written upside down, and beneath it is the two headed dragon; the alchemic symbol for a complete life form. Which means, this basically translates to 'I will strike God to earth and become the perfect being.'"
He narrates.
"Well that's certainly an arrogant concept." You commented.
Holding his arm Ed stands back up. "It's not a big deal to talk about it but then there's this."
Walking over to a broken piece of the mural. "This piece takes it to the next level. An image of a lion swallowing the sun symbolizing the philosopher's stone.
"The philosophers stone is made with living humans, isn't that correct, Envy?"
"Yeah, that's right."
"How could a nation as advanced as Xerxes fall, let alone in a single night? What happened to its citizens? These stone fragments of the mural, you put them here to hide the evidence! You killed them. You sacrificed all of Xerxes, you turned them into a philosopher's stone!"
Ling sucked in a breath as Ed whipped around to face the Homunculus.
"Who was it? I want to know who used this to transmute himself. Who saluted the population of a whole country, who created all of you, who's trying to make himself powerful enough to surpass God?!"
At Envy's silence Ed spoke up again.
"It was your father wasn't it? Tell me Envy, whoever this guy is, he's been using you homunculi to try and recreate the destruction of Xerxes here in Amestris. Hasn't he?!"
Envy grinned, leaning down. "Get us out of here and I'll gladly tell you everything. You spent enough time beating around the bush. I'm tired of waiting for you to ask. You pay a toll, right, to open the portal?"
Opening his mouth, a red stone resting on his tongue. "This work?"
"You're body. Those are the citizens of Xerxes, aren't they?" Listening to their screams.
"At one time, but they're minds and bodies crumbled long ago, all that's left is energy to be consumed. They don't even remember what they looked like when they were alive."
Gazing down at the ground a look of sympathy crossed over his features, your hand resting comfortingly on his shoulder.
"Is that pity? How childish are you?" Envy grinned wickedly. "You're desperate to see these things as human because you want to believe your brother still retains his humanity."
Feeling his body tense under your touch you glare up at the homunculus. "What you hesitate to throw a bundle of logs onto a fire because you pity the tree they came from?" He compared.
"These souls can never go back to being human. You have to use logic if you are to determine what a human is. Don't let your emotions decide."
—
Ed and Envy stand in the transmutation circle, you and Ling off to the side. The blonde turns to look at you two.
"Alright. [y/n], Ling. This might not work out for me if so you gotta warn people about these guys' plans." Pointing at the green creature.
Ling huffs and turns to the side with a grin. "I'm not that concerned about Amestris, it's not my country."
"Are you serious?!"
Your knuckles hitLing upside the head makes him crumble to the ground.
"You've got people you love waiting for you, don't you? So just make it back alive and tell them yourself." You encourage, helping Ling up off the ground.
Nodding he faced the souls pushing through Envy's green skin. "I'm sorry, but I need to use you."
Bringing his hands up he clapped them together and placed them onto the ground.
The lines creating the circle glowed a bright blue, black hands rising from the outline as red took over the blue, a white and gray eye opening in the middle.
"Long time no see. Too bad this isn't why I planned on opening you again. [y/n], Ling, jump in it!"
"You better know what you're doing! We're trusting you!" Taking a step into the circle, your leg began to deconstruct, quickly making its way up your whole body.
This was it.
