Darryl Pov:

It's the night of Thursday, the day after George and I had our little conversation, and I was going to have our first meet up.

It's 1am on a school night and I'm going to a train track to meet up with a guy I basically just met yesterday. Sounds legit!

I walked along the train track until I saw the bush that I found the necklace in two nights prior and just sat down next to it and waited.

Ten minutes passed and George still hadn't shown up. I got bored so I started playing with a leaf that I ripped off the bush, ripping it into tiny pieces.

"Sorry I'm late!" A voice that I assumed was George yelled out.

"It's okay," I said while throwing away the leaf and smiling at him.

"XD was asking me questions as to why I was leaving the necklace behind and I had to come up with an excuse," George explained.

"Why did you leave it behind?" I asked as he sat down next to me.

"It's got a tracking device on it."

I nodded and George took a deep breath.

"Let's get this started, shall we?"

George went on telling me things about XD.

He told me that XD wasn't human. Which Karl already told me but I wasn't about to tell George that, he'd think I was crazy. And he also told me that XD was very powerful. He said to always keep an eye out and to NEVER let your guard down. He sees everything, even in a room full of 100 teens.

This just makes me not want to fight XD anymore.

Saturday at 7am

I met up with George Friday night before our battle with XD.

Because the battle starts today.

In like, a few hours.

Man I'm not prepared.

I paced around my room, questioning everything.

It's not even guaranteed that Zak will be allowed to come back, what am I doing?! Am I that much of a simp??

I was so worried and caught up in my own thoughts that I didn't even hear my bedroom door open.

"Darryl? Honey?" The voice of my mother said as I felt her gently bring my hands down from my hair that I didn't even realize I was gripping. "What's bothering you?" She asked with concern.

I sighed and sat down on my bed, her following my actions and sitting beside me.

"Did you know Zak's mom?" I asked her.

"Know Zak's mom? I don't reckon that I do, I'm sorry honey. If there is any way that I can help you, please tell me."

I sighed again and cracked my knuckles nervously.

"Do you think that there's a possibility that... Zak might come back?" I asked.

"That's what you're worried about?" She sighed. "Honey, don't worry. I know he's gone right now and I know that it must be a difficult time period for you but your connection was strong. I know that you'll see him again. I can't guarantee that they will move back... But I can guarantee that you will be able to see him again," she said with a comforting smile.

"Thanks, mom."

"Of course," she said while standing up. "If you need anything, just call me. I'll be in my room."

And with that she walked out of my room.

She has been doing better recently. I wouldn't be able to survive without her. She went to the doctors and apparently she has a weak stomach. So that's why whenever she tried to eat it always resulted in pain. She takes medicine now and it really seems to be working, luckily.

I check the time and see that it's now almost 7:30am, so I lay down on my bed and relax.

You're gonna be fine, Darryl.

I told myself.

You're gonna be fine.

Zak's Pov:

Darryl isn't answering my calls!

I tossed my phone on a pile of clothes aggressively once the fourth call I've given him goes to voicemail.

Is he ignoring me?

Is he hurt?

Oh my god.

Is he hurt?!?

I quickly stumble off of my bed and rush over to the previously abused phone and shakily dial Darryl's number again.

Pick up, pick up, pick up, pick up!

You've reached the voicemail box-

"Goddamn it!" I yell as I toss my phone back down onto the pile of clothes.

I run over to my bed with tears brimming from my eyes and flop down face first aggressively onto it.

"Zak..?" Someone says from my doorway.

I quickly sit up and rub the tears away as I look to see who it is.

"Spifey? What are you doing here? How did you get in??"

He laughs and comes to sit down on the floor next to my bed.

"First off, yes. It's Spifey. Second off, I'm here to check in you. You've been depressed recently and it's really grossing us out. Third off, your mom let me in."

I sit up on my bed and look at Spifey suspiciously.

"You? Checking up on me?" I asked with suspicion.

"Okay, I'm not that bad of a friend," he says laughing at the fact that I was shocked he was checking up on me but then stops when he meets my gaze and sees my face of seriousness.

"Wait- you're serious? You're actually confused about how I'm checking up on you? Oh come on!" He yells and throws his arms up dramatically and flops onto the ground.

I giggle at his actions.

"No but seriously, why are you so depressed recently?" Spifey asks.

"Well... my friend, from before I moved. He hasn't been answering my calls and I'm worried. It's been going on for a couple days now too," I explain and curl up into a ball while doing so.

"A guy? A guy has you this sad?" Spifey asks with a sly smile.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask with a smile.

He just sits up and looks at me.

"It's fine. I bet this guy is okay. Unless there was some murderer going rogue at the last place you lived, I don't see why you should be so worried."

My smile immediately fell.

Oh god, Darryl's definitely dead.
