"Tanaka-san get the last!"
The sound of volleyballs smacking the court and shoes squeaking due to the quick movements of the team never left your ears. It was just back and forth, back and forth. To most the squeaking of the team's shoes would lead to them feeling forms of disgust and revolt but for you it was a regular thing, recurring. It was normal.
"Whatcha got there Y/n-Chan?" Your attention is drawn back to reality as Yachi approaches you slowly, acting as if your some lost animal who is easily spooked. Which in truth you were very easily frightened. After registering her question you glance down at your notebook to see the double page filled with fancy handwriting and very selective highlighting to make sure that all of the important pieces of information were instantly visible but to also keep your work neat and tidy. You took pride in the organisation of your notes.
Japanese History. That's what you were revising for. Although you were confident in the subject it never hurt to get a bit of extra revision in, especially since you had to keep up the standards of your grades.
It took you a few moments before you had the courage to answer Yachi, not because you were nervous around her but just purely because it was apart of your nature now. "O-oh...this? It's just some extra notes I've been taking..." you found yourself rubbing the back of your nape but stopped upon realising there was no need to be nervous. Yachi is a sweet soul without a single bad bone in her body, but that'll never change the fact that you need time to adjust to the behaviours of those around you.
"Do you mind if I take a look? I just want to see if there's anything I've missed" she was now the one rubbing the back of her neck but her question brought you surprise.
She wants to use my notes?
"Sure I don't mind..." you were happy. Finally you were able to fulfil someone's request. She shows her gratitude by flashing you a bright smile before sitting in front of you with her legs crossed and her hands either side of her, propping herself up as the happiness that was radiating from her body would surely cause her to collapse at some point. Sort of like a sugar rush or a placebo effect, you think something you've had is affecting how you're behaving but in reality it's just your mind playing a trick on you or pure dedication to the belief that something is making you feel better.
With your permission she spins your book that was laying on the floor so that she wasn't reading upside down and she then proceeds to drag her finger across the page, impressing you with how quick of a reader she was.
"Wow these are so organised Y/n-Chan! I was able to find what I needed so quickly, thank you so much!" She leans forward and cups your hands holding them up with sparkles glowing around her large brown eyes.
You feel your cheeks burning up so you automatically lower your head and squeeze her hands lightly, "a-anytime there's no need to thank me" you speak quietly but luckily she still heard you. Noticing your slight discomfort she lets go of your hands and goes back over to Kiyoko, who was writing down how many spikes were hit and missed by the team as they were currently doing spiking drills.
A faint smile forms on your face as you watch your brother's expressions. He's always happiest when he's on the court, no matter what the score is he'll try his best to keep the team's motivation up. Whenever he had a goal he would always go for it, this was one of the many reasons why he is your role model in life.
Drawing your focus back onto your work, you had missed a minuscule section in the textbook so you filled up the last piece of space on the page before encasing it in a box of pink highlighter and small drawings besides it in case you needed more detail to remember what exactly happened.
"There she is!" A male voice can be heard from across the gym but you don't react as it could be any of three girls who they were talking about. "Hello?" The voice was getting closer but you still took no notice. "What's the matter Angel? Have I done something wrong?" That was it. That was what told you they were speaking to you and you instantly knew who it was. Finally realising, your head darts up only for you to then repetitively apologise for ignoring the older male. "Don't apologise! You probably didn't think I was talking to you!" His gentle smile puts you at ease, as does his little pats on your head.
Did he read my mind?
"What did you need me for Noya-senpai?" His face turned the shade of a tomato upon hearing you call him this once again. It was something he would never get used to.
"Do you wanna have a go at spiking a ball?" Hope was laced on his words and this was evident through his toothy grin and abnormally close presence.
"U-um I'm not too sure...I probably won't even be able to hit the ball..." this was a lie. You had plenty of practice went it came to spiking as you often helped Koushi in the back garden late at night when he was stressed about a game, but constant reassurance from his sister kept the little fire of passion in his heart alive.
"I'll set for you if you want Y/n" a new voice joined the conversation and it just so happened to be your brother's.
What is happening today?
Is everyone telepathic now or something?
"I suppose I could give it a try..." you anxiously smile at them but deep down inside you were thriving. Being able to take part in what your brother loved most besides spending time with you felt amazing. You felt...
Free...

"We are ready whenever you are Angel!" Noya semi-yelled from the other side of the court. Your participation set his adrenaline on a wild rush, desperately wanting to receive your spike as it was his first time receiving one from you. The pair had made sure that everyone else was occupied so that there were no eyes on you apart from Noya's and Koushi's, this made you feel somewhat calmer.
"O-okay here I go..." you were scared. But you were also up for the challenge. Taking a few seconds to breath you then started running. Well actually you darted towards the net, your small and agile figure enabled you to run much faster than the average person and this was one reason why your brother asked you to practice with him. To widen his knowledge about what sorts of players he may be setting to in the future, as you helped him out all through middle school and his first year at Karasuno. When you reach your ideal distance from the net you stop dead on the spot and bend your knees preparing for the next step, once your down far enough you leap and stretch as high as you can and by the time you've reached your optimum height the ball is waiting there for you. And when you're finally ready...
'Smash!'
The ball landed where you expected it to, Nishinoya's arms. His awareness of his surroundings and his ability to stay calm allow him to analyse any situation during a volleyball match and nine times out of ten he's correct on his judgement. The impact of the rubbery material smacking against his skin sent sound waves rippling through the wooden room. No one makes a sound as they stare at you with glistening eyes and jaws on the floor until your brother runs over to you, picking you up and spinning around with you in his arms. "Y/n that was so good, you've improved so much!" The rest of the team wanders over but the only one you have your eyes on is the still shocked libero who lifts up the net slightly so that he has to bend down less to get under it. Once your brother is satisfied with the number of pirouettes he's done he sets you down but once your left foot is planted on the ground a sharp pain is sent through your body and the pain is clear from your furrowed eyebrows, scrunched up nose and sealed eyelids.
Noya approaches you and places one of your arms over his shoulders to help keep your balance, "Angel are you okay?" Worry is laced within his words.
"Y-yeah I just think I've sprained it...no big deal!" You attempt to sugarcoat the pain by even forgetting that you had the injury in the first place but when you tried to walk it was crystal clear that you couldn't get out of what's coming next.
"Noya would you mind giving her a piggyback ride to our house if I carry all of our stuff?" The smaller male agreed without hesitation and hoisted you up onto his back.
The whole journey home was filled with scoldings from your brother about how you need to be more careful and if you think there is a risk in doing something then don't do it but you didn't exactly hear most of this due to your selective hearing.
I'll be fine Koushi,
Just you watch!
