Fourteen (Good Lord Freddie)
"Shit," Fred whispered, unsure of what to do in this scenario.
"Hi," Cassie managed to mutter, unsure of herself.
It wasn't necessarily the worst situation Cassiandra could find herself in, but after everything with Cedric, it was. It was hard to tell the right decision when everything felt so wrong and right in an overwhelming burst of emotions imploding and exploding outward.
"Did you check the door?" Fred asked quietly, waiting to be verbally beaten up by the girl
"You did not just ask me if I checked the door." Her words were like stepping on a thousand microneedles, and yet they were so validated that Fred couldn't think of a response
"So, we're trapped," Fred spoke up with a sigh, trying to make the best of the situation at hand
"Say one more idiotic thing and the last thing you'll see alive is this broom closet," Cassie spoke with such an agitated tone it silenced the boy as quickly as it had taken for him to talk to begin with
This very silence continued for longer than expected. The tension was so thick. You could not only cut it with a knife. You could practically see it. It felt as if it was hot and muggy, almost as if hell came to Earth.
"Cass," Fred spoke after nine painfully long minutes of silence
"Yes?" The girl responded dryer than the Sahara dessert
"I miss you," Fred began taking a breath inward before continuing "a lot more than I wanted to admit," he spoke, letting the breath out after he finished saying what he wanted to say
"Oh," Cassiandra managed to respond not sure how to process and take in the information being spoken to her as if it were a foreign language she had never spoken or heard of in a day in her life
Fred was quick to respond, "Is that really all you have to say, oh?" he threw his arms up in the air followed by a groan
"What else can I say when I'm barely processing what was said?" reasoned with Fred as though she had to explain herself to him
"Oh?" he pondered to himself
"Oh" muttered before speaking again "I missed you two," Cassie said glumly trailing off into her thoughts
"Why the sad tone?" Fred asked with such a genuine tone it felt as though it came from the heart
"Nothing, just wished I realized it sooner is all" the girl trailed off looking at the mop in the corner as if it were the most interesting thing in the world
The two looked at each other forgetting everything around them. Fred took a step forward in turn Cassie took a step back. This continued till eventually Cassie hit a wall and Freds arm extended out in front of him next to her face, leaning over her with a sly grin she could barely see. Hesitation entered the broom closet as the two teens stood there in yet another silence. Cassies breath hitched as she was unsure of the situation. The girls heart fluttered and began beating faster than it already had been as she watched Freds face grow closer to hers practically close enough to kiss.
He placed his lips gently onto hers, not bothering to ask which bothered Cassie, not enough to ask him to stop but enough for her to not reciprocate his actions. He was as gentle as the daytime breeze and yet Cassie, she couldn't do it. Yet she tried her best and thus she kissed back not feeling the same spark she once felt. His hands roamed down her body and she felt slightly disgusted with herself. Cedric was right there waiting for her and she couldn't help but want to claim him as hers.
"Cassie" the teen spoke against her lips to which she barely mumbled a "hmm" in response
"This is exactly what I missed" Fred spoke again to which Cassie just tried to laugh off the situation.
"Are you two made up yet" Jasper's voice called out
"Definitely" Cassiandra was quick to push Fred off and run out as the door unlocked
"Great" George exclaimed with a sort of sarcasm that provided comfort
The four walked back to the Gryffindor common room together, Cassie felt a great sense of guilt bubble up inside her. She was awful using Cedric like she did but maybe he was truly the one she wanted instead of Fred. Or perhaps she had confused herself all over again by adding another solution into the already messy equation.
