Penelope acted odd that day..you were worried, sure sometimes she does bad or weird things but she looked really out of it yesterday..jeez whatever she told you to give her space and you will.

But maybe..taking a tiny peak to check up on her when she's eating wouldn't be so bad? She still ate by herself but now it was actually somewhere you could check on her and say you were just walking around! You put the book you were reading away as you went into the hallway trying to act natural.

You see the dining room where Penelope is eating far ahead but you suddenly hear an irritated but confused voice behind you

"The hell are you doing here?"

You turn around a bit surprised as your eyes land on Reynold before you just stare at him blankly before continuing to walk away, you wanna see Penelope before she finishes eating. She's a fast eater after all.

"Don't ignore me you dumbass-"

He ran until he was next to you and just silently (what a surprise) walked next to you as you guys both went in the same direction, maybe he's checking on Penelope too? You'll stop him from being dumb then.

Or he just walking around who knows, you and Reynold both make it to the door as you were smiling excitedly but when you hear the maids voice you get a bit confused but Reynold speaks before you

"What is going on?"

You watch as the maid quickly turns around to see both you and Reynold at the door with him leaning against it and you just standing there with your head tilted in confusion

"M-master Reynold! Lady [name]!!"

You just both stare at her, him with confusion and you also do the same but your gaze was a bit lighter than his

Until suddenly you hear a noise that seemed like someone was about to either puke or faint from disgust..the hell? You and Reynold both turn to Penelope who made the noise, your expression instantly turning to worry and Reynold just staring in confusion, you also don't know what happened but she does not look okay..

Why does she have to suffer like this? Penelope didn't understand. That godforsaken family..as she remembers her past families words

"Go tell father if you think it's unfair. You can't, can you? Father doesn't pay any attention to you."

"No one cares if you starve, or not. Get bullied at school or don't, because you aren't really our family."

As she remembers an image of her sitting against a wall with her head on her knees..food, school, life..those two bastards never left her alone. Her father's wife died of illness before she was even born, but they acted like her, a child, was an enemy to their mother.

Because of those bastards she got stomach illness so often it got tedious. She's suffered through this situation more than enough in her life..yet even in this game world this isn't actually real life..!

Reynold finally deciding to say something says

"Hey, are you okay..?"

Penelope didn't reply only more disgust noises coming out her mouth as you watch in panic and worry as you instantly run towards her and put your hand on her shoulder looking at her worriedly

"Sister! Are you alri-..?!"

Both you and Reynold finally notice the food on the table, if it could even be considered that.

"What is this..?!"

Reynold says in surprise but you silently stare at the food..that. Was what Penelope ate? For how long? Always? When you came to eat with her and share your food. Was this what she was eating? Why she always seemed to finish the food before you got to her room? As you finally stand up straight and stare at the food with a dark expression before turning to the maid

"What the actual fuck, Did you feed her?"

You and Reynold both seemed to finally understand as you were both glaring at the maid with hatred, as she tries to explain herself

"My lady! Young master! It's just.."

She lets out a gasp as Reynold suddenly slams the table with his fist while screaming

"Even if you dare disrespect the duke's household, there is a limit!!"

As he continues, you silently pick up the moldy piece of bread and start walking to the maid with your head down as you hear Reynolds voice yelling in the back

"A mere maid gives this garbage to their mistress for food..!"

Before the maid could speak there was a loud smacking noise heard in the room, you were glaring at her after smacking her hardly on the cheek while she held her face, you take the moldy piece of bread you were holding and put it in front of her face

Before anything else could happen you forcefully open her mouth and shove the moldy bread inside of it forcing her to swallow it, you? The Angel of the eckart duchy doing something like this?..Penelope could've died. What if she continued eating like this every day? You always let her have some of your food unaware that the food she was normally was garbage

You were mad at yourself. The maid was coughing as she spit out all the food she was able to force her mouth to not digest as she was on the ground coughing before anything else could happen Reynold yells

"I will be telling my father and brother about this. Is anyone outside? Butler!"

A butler enters and asks what's wrong as you reply before Reynold can and say

"Take this stupid bitch of a maid and lock her up."

A maid and butler then both participated in taking her away as she screamed apologies

Before anything else could happen you hear a small 'uhh..' sound in disgust leave Penelope's mouth as you turn back to her instantly becoming worried and panicked

"Sister!!"

You run to her side and go on one knee next to her so you could see her face more clearly as you worriedly inspect her, Reynold carefully puts one of his hands on Penelope's shoulder

"Hey, are you okay?"

He then continues

"Why did you just foolishly sit there and eat that? You should have flipped the table and screamed like you normally do."

..right. You remember this before. Some of Penelope's deaths were her attacking a maid or something at breakfast. This was why. Dammit..you never knew the actual reason why but this was it? Your sister was being forced to eat fucking garbage?

Penelope looked at both of them and noticed something 'pink and [y/c] hair..so this situation was resolved thanks to the second son and the youngest daughter of the duke.'

But Penelope knew this wasn't just that maids work alone, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say all the staff here have the same and one heart. If it weren't for the fact all the main figures in this house including this bastard here have turned a blind eye..this could have never happened.

Well. Penelope then turns to you as she sees your panicked and concerned expression, except you. Of course you weren't a main male lead, but you were also in one of the routes..the sibling route where the main character lives happily with her siblings which include her, she genuinely cared about Penelope and always was sweet to her.

But was also blissfully unaware of the things Penelope had to go through, even if you never turned a blind eye to Penelope's concerns, the staff must've also knew that Penelope wouldn't have wanted to worry her beloved sister with her pains and didn't plan on telling her..they probably used that as an advantage

"Hey..you don't look good at all. Should I call a doctor?"

Reynold says as you continue staring at her worriedly, it didn't matter what she said you were definitely gonna call a doctor anyways!

Penelope sees her options with them being
1. Don't bother.
2. Why do you care? Get out of this room.

If she didn't know anything about this world she would've been grateful for reynolds concern, but she knows that he doesn't mean any of his words. As she decides to choose the first option and says

"..Don't bother."

She says to Reynold as you just watch a bit surprised but more worried about Penelope then that as reynold stares in slight surprise

"You.."

He then goes back to his normal expression and walks away with a 'fine' as his reply as he turns his head to look at her

"There isn't a doctor in this estate who can make time for you anyways. Stuff your face with whatever you want. You can die if you wish."

You glare at Reynold with annoyance jeez he's so annoying..while you continue looking at Penelope worriedly her gaze looked up above reynolds head as her eyes widen..wasn't his favourability negative 10? It was definitely -10 last night.

"Sister ignore him! He's such an irritating fucker..but really! Do you need me to call a doctor??"

Your voice rings her out of her daze as she turns back to you who was still looking at her with worry on one knee as another set of options pop up..
1. ..I'm alright don't worry about me
2. Sister I promise I'm fine. Don't worry okay?
3. I'm doing alright. No need to call the doctor

She sweat dropped slightly when she saw how nice these replies were compared to the ones for Reynold as she decides to pick the second one

"Sister I promise I'm fine. Don't worry okay?"

She can't help but notice your worried expression change to one of shock, why? Did she do something bad? As something suddenly appears on the system

Oh. Penelope didn't understand what it meant by get one more, but she saw as your face suddenly turned into a huge smile with excitement gleaming from your eyes..you were probably the only character she liked in hard mode. She sees as you suddenly snap out of your excited trance and say

"! But are you sure? Sister if you're really actually sick I can call a doctor!"

You said in concern, that dumb maid, you'll be sure to get your father to punish her even harder..! After she reassured you one more time with the help of the choices, you happily escorted her to her room beaming with excitement as you said bye to her as she went inside her room but when she was gone your expression changed

When you ate with Penelope..that's what was going on? And you never noticed? Not in any of your lives at fucking all?..or maybe you did in some of the recent ones but have no memory of them..how confusing..Reynold probably informed your father and Derrick so now you have to wait and see what they'll do to punish that dumb maid, honestly if they let her off you're definitely gonna kill her.

You decide to think of more positive things as you suddenly remember something..sister. That's what Penelope called you..a bright smile formed on your lips as you happily walk down the hallways, does this mean she isn't mad at you anymore?- well you don't know if she ever was but does this mean you both can hang out like you used to?

You look forward to that day if it ever comes.

This was a lot longer than I expected.

Oh and pleaseeee forgive me for the whole maid, forcing her to eat the bread and smacking her shit. I really liked her in the future so I didn't wanna kill her off.
