Everyone was a little mad that Nellie left the glee club to say the least. Some called her traitors, others called her selfish. But Nellie didn't care. She was happy in the Troubletones and nothing would change that.
Currently she sat at Breadstix with Matteo and Jay as they cracked stupid jokes at each other.
"Ok ok, seriously. I have something to confess." Jay spoke after sipping on his drink. Nellie furrowed her brows and leaned forward, as did Matteo.
"What?" He asked.
"My moms back in town."
Nellies eyes widened once Jay said those words. Jays mother left him when he was a kid due to the fact that she wasn't "ready for a child." Because of this Jay developed anger issues and got suspended and in trouble with the cops a whole bunch of times.
"I thought your mom left." Matteo mentioned and Nellie nodded in agreement.
"She did. But now she's back in town because she wants to tell me something. I don't know if I should go see her." Jay explained.
"Jay, she can't just show up in your life begging to talk to you like nothing happened. Did she say what it was about?" Nellie questioned. Jay shook his head and Matteo and Nellie frowned sharing a look. Both of them knew what it was like to have absent family members in their lives, so they knew how much it hurt when one of them shows up in your lives years later asking for forgiveness and pretending like nothing happened.
"C-Can you guys come to the dinner? Mercedes can't go because she has church, and you two are my next best bet. Please?" Jay begged and Nellie leaned forward once more grabbing his hand and giving it a squeeze. Matteo placed a hand on his shoulder as well causing Jay to smile.
"We'll be there."
"Thanks. You guys are the best friends ever." Nellie chuckled before her and Matteo hugged Jay tightly. Jay hugged back and wrapped both of his arms around their shoulders.
Back at home Nellie and Matteo were cleaning up the house together when she spoke.
"I feel terrible. Jay doesn't deserve all that stress being put on him." She mentioned as she held out a trash bag that Matteo put all of his trash in.
"I know. I just hope my mom doesn't come back so I won't have to deal with that."
"Same with my dad." It was silent for a few more seconds before Matteo grabbed nellies waist pulling her close. Nellie squealed and placed her hands on Matteo's chest to steady herself.
"I love you." Matteo said causing Nellie to blush and give a grin.
"I love you more." She leaned in to kiss Matteo who kissed back immediately. It was a pretty sweet kiss until Matteo grabbed Nellies legs causing her to jump up and wrap them around his waist.
"Cleaning can wait, right?" He asked out of breath and Nellie laughed at that.
"Yeah, I guess it can."
*******
"He did what?"
"It was like, super random. I was getting changed into my football gear and he just suddenly asked if I knew any condom brands. I just said no, since I'm a virgin."
"You're a virgin?" Matteo and Nellie exclaimed at the same time. It was a little shocking to say the least, seeing as all the girls wanted to bang Jay every other week. Before Jays obsession with Mercedes started Nellie caught him taking a girl over to the janitors closet.
"I mean, yeah. The furthest I go is make out sessions. I-I chicken out when things go to far." Jay explained and Nellie just nodded in understanding. Sex could be a scary thing if you weren't ready. Luckily Nellie had Matteo who made her feel more than ready.
"It's ok man. One day you'll be ready." Matteo stated and Jay just sent him a smile.
"Thanks. You guys still coming to the dinner tomorrow?"
"Wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Alright. I'll see you guys, Mercedes promised she'd help me with my homework." The duo watched Jay leave, a happy smile on his face. Nellie just hoped that smile would remain and not disappear anytime soon.
Now Nellie sat inside a classroom with all the girls in glee minus Mercedes. Nellie didn't understand why she was there, only that Rachel kept spam calling her and forced her to be here.
"Why the hell am I here Berry?" Nellie questioned wanting to cut straight to the chase.
"This emergency meeting is now in session. I realize that we are a house divided, but I need the advice of my girls. The last time I called a meeting like this was during our Madonna lesson, and all of you were wildly unhelpful. But it's been two years now and we've all grown up, so I'm optimistic. Finn and I were βalmost intimate." Rachel explained causing Nellie to scrunch up her nose. Rachel always acted like a know it all, so to see her actually asking for help was shocking.
"Almost? What happened?" Tina asked.
"He ran out. I justβ-I wanted my performance of Maria to be as realistic as possible. And when he found out that's why I was doing it, he got really, really hurt."
"Of course he was hurt."
"Yeah, you only wanna have sex with him because of some stupid play? That's messed up." Nellie added shaking her head at Rachel.
"I know. I know. I feel terrible. And now I realize that I was doing it for all the wrong reasons."
"Do you want my opinion?" Quinn suggested and Rachel nodded.
"Just wait."
"Just wait?"
"Look what happened to me."
"You could've used protection." Tina argued.
"I'm not just talking about getting pregnant. I'm-I'm talking about losing something you can never get back. It changes you. It makes everything more complicated." Quinn explained.
"I also think you should wait. Speaking from experience, Finn is terrible in bed."
"Relax Santana." Nellie warned.
"What? If Rachel wants my sloppy seconds, she should know the truth. It was like being smothered by a sweaty, out-of breath sack of potatoes that someone soaked in body spray." Santana commented and Nellie shook her head in disgust before speaking.
"My first time with Matteo was special. We didn't rush anything, and he made me feel comfortable and safe. And god, the after care was to die for."
"You're so lucky. You have a man from heaven." Quinn spoke and everyone else in the room nodded in agreement.
"I lost my virginity at cheerleading camp. He just climbed into my tentβ-alien invasion." Nellie sent Brittany a worried look and everyone else ignored the disturbing comment as they talked about how they lost their virginities.
"Yeah well if you're done talking about this, I'm gonna get out of here." Nellie stood up and made her way out the classroom, letting out a sigh in the process.
*******
Opening night for West Side Story had finally arrived and Nellie couldn't be any more nervous. She sat at her dressing table as she applied the final touches of makeup onto her face.
"You're gonna do great. I know it." Matteo assured and Nellie nodded before pressing a kiss on his cheek.
"Hey Artie some of the cast needs to talk to you before we go on." Tina spoke and Nellie walked forward along with Puck and Jay.
"Dude we have a problem." Puck spoke and Nellie nodded in agreement.
"We haven't officially thanked you for everything that you've done for us." Santana said walking forward and handing Artie flowers.
"All of us were so nervous and we didn't know what we were doing, and you were like the lighthouse that led us to the way."
"But I didn't know what I was doing either. When you're in a chair, it's hard to.....ever feel like you've grown up. Everyone's always doing stuff for you. They get freaked out abhor saying the wrong thing, so....they coddle you. Sometimes it's hard to ever picture a life of being totally self-sufficient. But directing you guysβthe way you trusted me, the way you looked at me and listened to meβit was the first time in my life I ever felt like a grown man. This is the greatest gift you can give a guy soβso thank you guys. For the flowers and for everything. All right, show circle?"
After the show circle the show was on and Nellie couldn't be any more nervous. But there was no turning back now.

After the show was over Nellie, Jay, and Matteo sat at some fancy restaurant waiting for Jays mother to show.
"I'm shocked she can even afford this place. We could barley afford a pie of pizza back then." Jay mentioned as he let out a dry laugh. Matteo frowned and rubbed his back.
"We got your back. Right Nel?"
"Definitely."
Suddenly a blonde woman walked through the door, looking around the restaurant as if she was trying to find a specific person. Nellies eyes widened and glanced at Jay who was looking at the ground. Jay looked exactly like his mother
"Jay." A woman gasped sitting down on the other end of the booth. Matteo sent a look to Jay who just shook his head and looked at his mom.
"Hi mom."
"Oh, it's so good to see you in person again. You grew up so much."
"Well that's what eight years does to a person am I right?"
The woman frowned and looked over to Matteo and Nellie. "Are you friends of Jays?"
"Yeah. Nice to meet you." Nellie said politely.
"Nice to meet you too. I'm Amy."
"I'm Nellie and this is my boyfriend Matteo. Say hi babe."
"Hi." Matteo muttered. He wasn't about to play nice with the woman who left his best friend. Nellie kicked his foot from under the table causing him to kick back almost immediately.
"W-Well I think you and I both know why we're here. I have some news."
"Just spit it out." Jay snapped and Nellie rubbed his arm in an attempt to calm him down.
"Well, I'm engaged!" Amy held up her hand which had a huge diamond ring on her ring finger. Jay let out a shaky breath as Matteo and Nellie stared at the ring in shock.
"Holy shi-" Matteo quickly placed a hand over Nellies mouth to stop her from finishing the word.
"You're married?" Jay questioned in disbelief.
"Well, we were planning on getting married over the summer. Tim and I figured you should know. And the kids-"
"T-The kids?" Nellie interrupted trying to process if she heard that right. This was the same woman who abandoned Jay because she wasn't ready to have kids, but then she talks about kids. Something wasn't right with this.
"Yes, we have two boys at home. Four and nine." Amy replied and tears pooled in Jays eyes.
"S-So you couldn't take care of me, but you went and had two other kids?" He asked.
"Jacob-"
"Don't call me by my full name. You don't deserve it. You know, I can't believe this. I-I thought that things would be different. That you invited me back here to tell me you wanted to start over. Then I would've been like, "Oh ok, maybe she's being legit." But no, you came here to break my heart again. Congrats on the engagement. Don't think for a second I'm showing up at your wedding." Jay got up and stormed out of the restaurant, leaving Matteo, Nellie, and Amy sitting there awkwardly.
"He really missed you, believe it or not." Matteo said before getting up and leaving as well. Nellie sent the woman one final glare before following her boyfriend. Matteo and Nellie found Jay sobbing into a corner as he desperately tried to wipe the tears from his face.
Nellie didn't say anything, just stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Jay. Jay immediately hugged back and immediately started sobbing into her shoulder.
"I-I can't take it anymore! It's not fair!" He sobbed.
"Ok, ok. Shhh. Breathe." Matteo soothed also joining in on the hug. The trio didn't have to say anything to each other to understand how they felt. Just them hugging each other was more then enough.
