Finn had explained to Nellie one day how he made a Grilled Cheesus. Or whatever the hell it was. And Nellie couldn't be anymore concerned for her best friend. He told her to see for herself when they won their first football game. He explained as to how he prayed and wished that they would win. And they won. Matteo scored the final touchdown and Nellies jaw dropped when she saw that Finns wish came true. Now they were all gathered in the choir room as Finn was going to make his announcement about grilled cheesus.
"Mr.Shue? I have something to say. Something happened to me, and I can't really get into it but it's shaken me to my core."
"Oh my god he's coming out!" Puck interrupted, causing Nellie to snicker. "Why yes, there is a man who sort of recently come into my life, and that man is Jesus Christ." Rachel looked mortified by what her boyfriend was saying and Matteo looked like he didn't even want to be here.
"That's way worse." Puck said. "And I know there's others in here who dig him, too. And so I thought maybe this week, we could pay tribute to him in music. You know, pay tribute to Jesus." Nellie sighed and held her head in her hands. Matteo rubbed her back and then rested his head on her shoulder.
"Sorry, uh, but if I wanted to sing about Jesus I'd go to church. And the reason I don't go to church is because most churches don't think very much of gay people. Or woman. Or science." Kurt commented.
"I don't see anything wrong with getting a little church up in here." Mercedes said. "I agree. I've had a really hard year, and I turned to god a lot for help. I for one wouldn't mind saying thanks." Quinn added. "Thanks for what? That it didn't come out as a lizard baby?" Santana asked.
"Whenever I pray I fall asleep."
"I'll admit. I've had some hardships, and when I for hopeless I turned to god too. But I also think we shouldn't force people who don't wanna sing about god to sing about him." Matteo said. Kurt sent a smile Matteo's way and nodded.
"Well, guys, maybe our song selections don't have to be about Jesus. We could do songs about spirituality." Puck rolled his eyes and Finn noticed. "You got a problem with Jesus?"
"Oh, I got no problem with the guy. I'm a total Jew for Jesus. He's my number one Heb. What I don't like seeing is people using J-money to cramp everyone else's style, 'cause it seems to me that true spirituality or whatever you want to call it is about enjoying the life you've been given. I mean, I see god every time I make out with a new chick." Matteo groaned.
"That makes no sense!" He exclaimed. "Matteo's right. It's stupid." Rachel agreed. "Are you calling Mr.Billy Joel stupid? At this time I'd like to continue my streak of doing only songs by Jewish artists. Nel, come and sing with me." Nellie looked around before sighing and standing up stuffing her hands into her pockets.

"Hi, mom." Nellie whispered as the door opened. Nellie decided to move back in with her mom. She needed to make things right. She didn't wanna ruin everything with her mother before it was to late.
"Oh Nellie!" She cried bringing her daughter into a hug. Nellie hugged back, and she could hear her mother sniffling. "I'm so happy you're back! I missed you! I'm so sorry!" She sobbed.
"It's ok mom. I missed you to mom." Nellie reassured. Her mother let go of her and cupped her cheeks. "Your rooms waiting for you." Nellie smiled with tears still in her eyes. Puck walked out of his room and wrapped his sister in a hug.
"I missed you here Nel." He muttered into her hair. Nellie smiled and hugged him tighter.
"I know. I missed you too." Nellie walked inside her room and dropped her luggage on the floor. Her phone started ringing causing Nellie to sigh and answer.
"Hey, Kurt. What's up?"
"My dad.....heart attack.....hospital."
"Woah, slow down Kurt. Tell me what happened."
"My dad caught a heart attack and he's in the hospital."
Nellie closed her door and leaned against the wall. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry Kurt." Nellie processed to stay on the phone with Kurt until he calmed down and fell asleep.

The next day at school Nellie made sure to stick with Kurt all day. In glee club everyone was hugging him or telling him that it was all going to be ok. Nellie wrapped her friend in a hug.
"Hey, man, I'm really sorry for what happened to your dad. I know what it's like." Matteo said coming up to the boy. "Thanks Teo. Means a lot." He patted his back and sat down. Santana and Brittany were next to give their condolences.
"Hey Kurt. We're really sorry about your dads heart attack." Santana sadly said. "Thanks, Santana." She nodded and also sat down. "I did a book report on heart attacks, if you want to give it to the doctor. I got knocked down an entire letter grade 'cause it was written in crayon." Finn stormed into the choir room looking pissed.
"What the hell happened?"
"My dads in the hospital." Kurt responded. "I know. My mom just called me. I feel like I'm the last one to know!" Finn exclaimed.
"Well I'm sorry Finn, it didn't occur to me to call you, because he's not your father."
"Yeah, well he's the closet I'm ever going to get, okay? I know it may not look like everybody else has, but I thought we were sort of a family. Look I guess I just, I didn't like overhearing other people talking about it in gym class." Kurt simply ignored him and Finn sat down. "Hey, guys, our thoughts are all with Kurt, and, uh I know it's sort of hard to really focus on anything else."
"Mr.Shue? I've been struggling to figure out what I wanted to say to Kurt all day, and I realize I don't want to say it, I want to sing it. This song is about being in a very dark place, and turning to god. It's a spiritual song Mr.Shue. Is that okay?"
"It's fine."
"Tina, Quinn, can you help me out?"
[I Look To You-Mercedes Jones]
"Thank you, Mercedes. Your voice is stunning, but I don't believe in god."
"Wait what?" Tina asks as she goes to sit by Mike. "You've all processed your beliefs. I'm just stating mine. I think god is kind of like Santa Claus for adults. Otherwise gods kind of a jerk, isn't he? I mean, he makes me gay and then has his followers going around telling me it's something that I choose. As if someone would choose to be mocked every single day of their life. And right now, I don't want a heavily father. I want my real one back." Kurt says.
"But Kurt how do you joke for sure? I mean you can't prove there's no god ."
"You also can't prove there is one," Nellie commented. "You can't prove that there isn't a magic teapot floating around on the dark side of the moon with a dwarf inside of it that reads romance novels and shoots lightening out of its boobs, but it seems pretty unlikely, doesn't it?" Kurt snapped.
"Is god an evil dwarf?"
"I respect your opinion, Kurt. And we should all do the same as well. Forcing religion onto someone else isn't right. Especially if they tell you multiple times they don't agree with you. I believe in god, but it's ok if others don't feel the same way. I stand with you Kurt." Matteo ranted. Kurt nodded.
"We shouldn't be talking like this. It's not right."
"You're right Quinn. It isn't right. Let's all respect Kurt and the fact that he doesn't think god is real. Not everyone thinks the same." Matteo snapped. "I'm sorry, Quinn. But you can all believe whatever you want to. But I can't believe something I don't. I appreciate your thoughts, but I don't want your prayers." Kurt walked out of the room as the bell rang causing everyone to get up with him.
"I don't like this week. Everyone's trying to force religion on Kurt and it's not right. I mean I believe in god but you don't see me shoving the Bible in everyone's face." Matteo ranted opening his locker. "Completely agree Matteo." Nellie said also opening her locker. They were locker buddies.
"Hey, can I come over to your house tonight? Like, to hang out?" Matteo suggested with a shrug of his shoulders. Nellie smiled and nodded. "Hudson River looks real suspicious right now, give me a sec Teo." Nellie walked over to Finn who was cradling something in his arms.
"Oh my god! Is that the Grilled Cheesus you were talking about?! Let me see!" Nellie tried to take it from her friend but he held his hand up high so she couldn't get it. "I can't! This is like, super sacred. Even I'm scared to hold it at times. It's magical." Finn whispered the last part. "A sandwich is magical. Wow Finn, that may have been the dumbest thing I've ever heard." Finn rolled his eyes.
"I just made a wish. Two, actually. Just wait and it'll come true." Nellie smirked. "Aw, did you wish on me Hudson River?" Finn hit her arm.
"You're annoying. I'll see you tomorrow Nel!" He walked off, probably to go find Rachel. Nellie smiled and saluted him before walking over to Matteo who was leaning his head against the wall. Nellie placed a hand on his arm.
"You ok?" He flinched back at the touch and turned to face his crush. "Yeah, just dozed off for a sec. Y-You ready to go?" He tightened the straps on his backpack and sniffled. "Yeah, come on." Nellie touched his hand again and he flinched back again. Come to think of it, Matteo always flinched back whenever somebody or something would touch him. He was also super angry about the most random things. Not to mention he always came in school with bruises and cuts on his arm. Nellie knew something must've been going on at home, she just thought it would be weird and rude to ask him so soon.

Puck wasn't home when Nellie came back. Probably went to go have sex with Santana. Or some other girl. Puck was always having sex when he was bored. "You have a really nice home, Nellie." Matteo complimented as he took in the scenery around him. He brushed the curls out of his face as he walked around.
"So Matteo, this is my house. I don't really have much, since my mom doesn't work and my dad left. My brother, Puck, he runs a pool cleaning business." Nellie explained slipping off her shoes and sitting on the couch. Matteo did the same.
"I don't really have a mom. It's just my dad and his girlfriend. It's fun.....sometimes." Matteo paused before he said sometimes, which made Nellie become even more suspicious. She needed to prove her theory. She dropped her remote, something that'll cause a loud noise. Matteo closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"Teo, are you ok?" Matteo nodded. "Yeah, yeah, loud noises scare me sometimes." Nellie nodded and rubbed his back.
"Let's watch a movie. I'm bored."

The glee club had just found out they couldn't sing any religious songs. And mostly everyone was pissed. Except Matteo and Nellie.
"Come on guys, you had to see this coming!" Matteo commented. "Last week we were to sexy, this week we're to religious, we can't win." Tina said.
"Now I know what Miley feels like." Brittany added. "The real tragedy here is that I found the most perfect spiritual song to sing this week, and now it's been torn away from me like Sophie's daughter." Nellie glared at Rachel.
"It's not all about you." She snapped. "Guys you can still sing whatever songs you like that sum up your feelings about god, about spirit. You just can't do it on school time."
"I hope you're happy, Kurt."
"Watch it Santana." Nellie and Matteo warned at the same time. "Having the week of my life actually." Kurt responded. "Guys, back off Kurt, okay? He had every right to speak his mind."
"Look, Kurt, we're sympathetic to what you're going through, but siding with Miss Sylvester isn't gonna do anyone any good." Mercedes said. Matteo was about to argue before Kurt said something.
"It's doing me some good. Now I don't have to sit around listening to all you mental patients talking about how there's a god wow. I know there isn't one." Kurt said.
"Hey, I have a football game coming up. I was wondering if you were going to.....go?" Nellie nodded.
"Finn forces me to go to everyone of his games. Of course I'll be there Teo!"

"MATTEO!" Nellie screamed as she saw the boy tackled by about five other people on the other team. Nellie ran towards the boy who was struggling to breath under all of the weight.
"Get off of him you meatheads!" Nellie yelled shoving the boys off her crush. Coach Bieste quickly ran towards Matteo who was struggling to breath. "I can't breathe." He rasped.
"Help! Call 911!" Nellie yelled. Matteo was taking in large gasps of air but nothing was working and he was starting to lose air.
"I-I don't get it why were they all up on you like that?!" Nellie turned to see Finn who looked guilty as well. The ambulance arrived and took Matteo away and Nellie leaned onto Finn.
"Is he gonna be ok?" She whispered. "Let's hope so Nel."

"I know things have been pretty morose around here this past week, but I want to celebrate some good news for our little family. Let's hear it for Finn on getting back his quarterback job and leading the Titans to a win in their second game of the season." Nellie rolled her eyes. They didn't even acknowledge the fact Matteo wasn't here and was injured at home. Turns out he had a asthma attack on the field and almost died.
"Yeah to bad that Sam kid had to have his arm basically ripped off for it to happen, but it's good to have you back in the saddle brother." Puck said. Nellie scoffed.
"Something wrong Nellie?"
"Oh nothings wrong. I just don't like how we're all leaving Matteo in the dust. Sure, Finns quarterback again, hurray! I also don't like how everyone's forgetting how Matteo almost died the other night for that to happen. So congrats on the win Finn." Nellie sarcastically said. Kurt stood up.
"Mr.Shue, if I may? Um, I wanted to thank everyone for your kind emails and queries about my dad, but for your information, his condition still remains the same. I need to express myself, so with your permission, Mr.Shue, I've prepared a number for the occasion."
"Of course, Kurt." Mr.Shue went to go sit down so Kurt could sing his song. "On the day of my moms funeral, when they were lowering her body into the ground, I was crying. I mean, that was it. It was the last time I was ever going to see her, and I remember I looked up at my dad and I, I just wanted him to say something, just something to make me feel like my whole world wasn't over. And he just took my hand and squeezed it. And just knowing that those hands were there to take care of me that was enough. This is for my dad."

After school Nellie went to visit Matteo to see how he was doing. She knocked on his door, and Matteo seemed a little aggravated.
"I told you I'd take out the trash in minute!" He yelled. "It's Nel." The door immediately opened revealing Matteo. His hair looked a mess and he was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. "Nel? What're you doing here?" He groaned rubbing his eyes.
"I came to check on you. You doing ok?" Matteo shrugged and yawned. "I was taking a nap. Sorry for yelling at you, my step dads not the nicest person sometimes. What am I doing? Come in!" Matteo opened the door wider and Nellie stepped in looking around. He had pictures of famous football players and his family all over the place. And there was this one huge poster of the Cincinnati Bengals.
"Sorry it looks like this, I really didn't get a chance to clean or unpack correctly since I just moved. Your room looks so much better." Nellie smiled and nodded. Well his home life seemed normal, so where did he get the bruises from?
"Matteo! I told you to take out the trash!" A woman walked into the room, practically knocking down everything as he did so. Matteo grabbed Nellie and placed her behind him and the girl was confused.
"Oh, didn't know you had your girlfriend over." The woman said. "She's not my girlfriend, Sarah. She's the one who helped me when I got injured." Matteo muttered.
"The names Sarah. And you are?"
"N-Nellie." She stammered. She turned towards Matteo. "I'm glad you're doing ok, Teo. I should probably get going. See you tomorrow." Matteo nodded and almost looked sad she was leaving. Nellie made sure to close the door behind her and make her way back to her house.

Matteo Gomez stood cowering in fear as his step mom took off her belt. "What'd I tell you about having people over, Matteo?" She snarled. Matteo whimpered as the first hit hit him on the back.
"Answer me!"
"Y-You said n-not to! I-I didn't know she was coming, I'm so sorry." His father barged into the room and kicked him on the floor. All the air was sucked out of his body, but his inhaler was on the other side of his room.
"Who was that girl Matteo? What'd you tell her!" Another cry of pain escaped Matteo's lips as he was hit with the belt once again. Matteo took in much needed gasps of air.
"S-She's just a friend!" He rasped. He was kicked and whipped until he could hardly stand. His father spat on him.
"Maybe that'll teach you not to bring people over to my house without my permission." Matteo groaned in pain and leaned against the wall for support. Nellie. She should've never came over here. But she just wanted to help and check up on him. No ones ever done that for him before.
And that's why Matteo loved her.

By the end of the week Finn lost his belief on god and the glee club was going to sing one last number for the week. Tina was going to take the lead for the song, and everyone was wearing white and black. But no one noticed the bruises on Matteo's arms. Except Nellie. She furrowed her brows but Matteo quickly put on his sweater covering them up from everybody.

After the song Nellie was walking out of the building when Karofsky came over with a slushee, ready to hit the Puckerman girl. He was quick, but Matteo was quicker. He quickly held her close shielding her. But he tripped and fell so they switched positions and she was on top of him.
"Teo? What'd you do that for?" Nellie laughed.
"I couldn't let a face like yours get messed up. Desperate times call for desperate measures." Matteo responded. He helped the girl up and Matteo smirked. God his smirk was so hot.
"Shall we walk over to your house?"
"We shall."
