chapter seven:
"we're building a spaceship"

"this is what made are phone barf?" I ask

right when I said that it started going crazy again, tuck brought us over to the side of the road to start filming as I grabbed the camera and pressed record

"alright so a couple of seconds ago, our phones went crazy! bananas, insane. I don't even know what to call it, look" tuck explained, showing the camera his phone

"you see that? it's a new map, but only on my phone this time." he says, taking the camera away so he can record

"to me? alright.. them? or..." munch stuttered out when the camera faced him

"dude, munch's phone got all these weird hieroglyphics and I don't even know what that is." tuck let's out, then points the camera towards me and alex

"ashley and alex's phones, they just turned on by themselves and started filming. we can't even turn them off." he says while me and alex tapped our phones

me and alex looked at each other with straight faces, trying to look chill like nothing bizarre was happening

"oh, don't try to act like it's not cool" tuck teased, pushing us together

"It's just weird" I laugh smiling, tuck pressed cut on his camera and looked at his phone

"It's showing us where we are" alex tells us

"and you don't find that creepy?" munch let's out

"dude, think, phones have gps" I say, not noticing his dumb it sounded

"what do you think that is? you think thats a road?" tuck says, ignoring us

"we should follow the map." alex exclaims, getting excited

"aww c'mon guys, I'm tired! you guys know I can't turn this down though!" I smirk

"how about no" munch turns down, giving me a slight glare

"how about yes!" I argued back

"we wanted a last night together, so what do you call this?" tuck says butting in between our sibling feud

"a trap?" munch answers weakly, knowing he was losing

"oh god, and I call you my brother." I joke as we walk over to our bikes and start to peddle down to the road

"didn't you guys see the 'no trespassing' sign?" munch asks us as we passed by it quickly

"oops, I didn't see anything." tuck lies through he's teeth

"oh god, tuck" I chuckle

one hour later

"the map lead us to a barn? really? " I question with disappointment and disbelief in my voice

"well, this is where the map said to go" tuck says showing me his phone

"stop stepping on leaves!" alex whispered over to me as the crunching became louder

"there's leaves everywhere, you idiot." I sass back, not thinking about it being just me making the noise

he rolls his eyes at my stubbornness and swiftly picks me up, throwing me over his shoulder

you could only hear complete silence after my slight squeal

they continued walking and I heard tuck ask "where do you think it's taking us to?"

"maybe another one of those beepy things" I suggest, my voice nasally from being upside down

alex walks up to the barn door and puts me down, dusting me off jokingly while waiting for tuck to open it and walk in

as all of us took a step in making the noise from the phones slow down then go to a complete stop

there was a quick noise from munch's phone making him pull it out. with no signs of anything happening, he shrugs.

as if that was a qúe, everything started to rumble like an gigantic earth quake

"what was that" I ask suddenly

"I don't know" munch responds, a large bang came from the tractor allowing all hell to break loose

"woah, woah, woah, ashley get down!" alex warns, pulling me to the ground and shielding my with his body

"munch watch out" I yell, while a piece of metal flew by his face. alex drags me to a pile of hay and we hide behind it

"what's going on?" alex asks, looking over to me

"I don't know!" I answer with uncertainty, a piece of electrical wiring fell following with sparks flying everywhere causing us all to scream in reaction

"where is it?" tuck asks

"Is it over?" I ask no one in particular, but right when I said that, the piece zoomed right passed tuck and came and hit the thing out of alex's hands.

it scattered over and tried to put itself together

"woah, guys stay back." I instruct as they all took a step further

"your phone just got a new map." munch says, looking down at it

"what?" me and alex say simultaneously, watching it begin to open slowly

"woah, woah, woah!" munch panicked, grabbing onto his hair

"wait, why is it opening?" I ask, even though I knew none of us actually could answer

"hold on, hold on. did you just see that just now?" tuck asked in disbelief

"what is that?"

"what is that?" munch repeated louder, I was too shocked to say anything until something caught my eye

"wait, are those- eyes?" I question myself, they all look at me and then back at the device

"guys, its looking dead at us right now." I tell the boys

"oh god, oh god, oh god." munch panicked again

"it's trembling like it's hurt." alex noticed, taking a small step forward

"maybe it is" I step forward after him

"good" munch scoffed, earning a smack behind the head

"ow, ashley!" he complained

"my heart is beating so fast right now." tuck tells us, holding onto his left chest

"wow" I breathe out amazed

"almost got us killed, like, three times already." munch mumbles out

"munch, it was worth it" I shot back, looking at the thing with admiration. tuck gave me the camera to record him again

"alright, I just figured out why ashley's and alex's cameras have been on this whole time. so this thing, whatever it is, it's eyes are like, all screwed up, completely. you see? so basically it uses ashley's phone to see out it's left eye and alex's to see in it's right, that's insane." he chuckles, taking in a breath of air since he spoke so quickly

"you think he can see us right now?" alex asks no one in particular

"well right now, he's looking at your foot." i say, letting out a small giggle

he give me a look and mumbled, "smart ass." resulting in me rolling my eyes

"munch, you have to check this out. this is amazing" I say while putting my finger in between the cracks of him and quickly pulled my finger away as it closed

"its it? is it amazing? cause I think it's scary as balls." munch spazzed out, waving his arms all over

"c'mon dude this is so cool! almost like the video games you play!" i suggest, trying to get him to calm down

"I mean, obviously people are looking for him." he mentions

"munch," alex begins

"-he has access to our voicemails and our texts and our ringtones." he continues to ramble

"well I don't know about you guys but I have nothing to hide on my phone" I lightly joke

"wait how do you even know it's a he?" tuck asks

alex turns to him, "are you a dude?" he asks

it lets out at beep causing us to laugh, but I quickly stop

" wait, you understood us." I put together

another beep came out

"woah" we laugh, I go ahead and take the camera so tuck can go talk to munch

"alright so here it goes, one beep is yes and two beeps are no." alex instruct to the creature

"is one beep yes?" he asks, trying it out

a beep came

"okay let's ask it a better question" I say, "are we in a barn?"

once again it beeped

"oh my god." I laugh

"is munch really a woman?" tuck asks it, cracking a joke

this time two beeps sounded

"oh c'mon, this thing broken. everybody knows munch is a woman" he jokes as we laugh along

"okay, I have a question. are we gonna die tonight?" munch asks, switching the tone

complete silence was heard

"why isn't it answering?" munch worries

"probably cause it doesn't know for sure." I mumble, realizing the truth of the situation

"well, that's not good right?" munch's voice picks up in panic again.

we all sit together on the ground and put down the camera to play 20 questions.

"okay 20 questions with an alien" I say to the camera

"let's do this" alex says rubbing his hands together

"alright um, are you from outer space?" he asks, which followed with a beep

"are you a robot?" tuck asks

two beeps came

"do you eat humans?" I ask, anxiously tuning my hands

two beeps once again

"oh thank god" we sigh out, letting out the breath we didn't know we were holding

"do you like earth?" alex asks with high hopes

but it came crashing down when another two beeps came

"why? why doesn't he like earth?" munch asks in confusion

we all shake our heads, "do you like us?" I ask

a single beep made us all smile

"oh yeah" I let out, giving a high five to  alex and tuck.

"are you hurt?" alex asked him, his voice soft

he let out two beeps

"he's hurt, well his lights seem brighter" alex notices

"did that piece help you?" I ask

he gave us a yes

"can we help fix you or something?" I push

"are you trying to build something?" alex said not even a second later

another beep

"so,wait, what are- what are you building?" I ask

"lasers?"

two beeps

"minions?"
nope

" a cloaking device?"
another two beeps

"it's an army." munch says, throwing his arms up

two beeps
"oh god, don't listen to him" I let out, but quickly pause when it hits me

"a spaceship" I mumble to myself, then say it louder so that everyone could hear, feeling my face light up when he made a cool whiring sound, indicating that I was right

"oh my god!" alex said, jumping up and down bringing me with him

" hold up, hold up, so let me get this right. so your building a spaceship, " tuck starts

"he's building a spaceship!" alex explodes excitedly, pacing the room still holding my hand and pulling me along with him

"and you need our help building the space ship?" tuck finishes, ignoring alex's outbursts

he gave us a beep

"this guy is building a spaceship." alex says almost out of breath, bending down to the camera

"hold on guys, let me make sure I don't have any plans." I pause, putting my finger to my chin as if I was thinking "nope!" I yell, jumping up from my position

"we're building a space ship!" tuck says excitedly

we all start jumping around, me and alex hug each other in excitement

I look up at him with a laugh coming out,
"we're building a space ship."
