AMELIE GROANED AS SHE SAT THE LAST BOX IN HER NEW ROOM, AND PLOPPED DOWN ON THE UNFINISHED BED. THIS certainly was not what she imagined when her mother told her they were moving.

"derry, maine." with that name, one would figure that the place was filled with hiking spots, shopping malls, at least a swimming pool. but no, the small town had none of those, so amelie had to make due with what she had.

amelie got up after he short break and little by little her boxes started to empty, even some decorations. fairy lights about her vanity, a large mirror beside her nightstand, and a few polaroids of her and her old friends, back in atlanta.

"come on, amelie! it's going to be fun!" a soft voice called from already in the lake.

"don't be a party pooper." another voice grumbled.

"look jessie, erica, i just don't feel comfortable showing my-"

"i have already seen you naked." erica grumbled, interrupting amelie. "no biggy. you have a nice body anyways."

"you never know who is watching is though, the woods go on for miles." amelie told her, still facing away from the naked girls swimming inside the lake.

"your loss mel, the water feels nice though." jessie exclaimed and splashed erica, causing amelies two best friends to have a water fight.

amelie huffed and started discarding her clothing. whatever.

the brunette smiled fondly as she recalled the memory. sure, some high school boys did end up spreading rumors that they saw the three. but those moments are what made her feel alive. the adrenaline she had felt when she ran naked from jared smith, her dousche boyfriend at the time.

amelie went up the stairs, since she was an only child her parents blessed her by letting her have the small basement to herself. it was a small, yet extremely thoughtful gift.

"hey ma." the girl commented as she plopped on the island bench and scanned the surrounding. it was clean, white. very white actually.

"hello sweetie," her mother answered politely and took another sip of coffee. "your father and i need to go to the grocery store to stock up this kitchen."

the girl nodded and grabbed a bottle water out of the fridge, one of the few things that exist there.

"how about you go hang out around town? i heard there's a cool arcade." her father suggested. amelie nodded softly, and thought she would go check it out later.

"yeah i think i might go try to explore the town after you guys leave, if that works."

her mother smiled at the young girl and ruffled her long locks. "of course, you have fun. you deserve it."
