Y/n and Bella leave their last class of the day, engrossed in conversation as they make their way to leave campus.
"You should just tell him," Bella suggested for the sixth time today.
"It's not that easy," Y/n discourages softly. "Edward is... intimidating." Her cheeks heat at the thought of the handsome Vampire.
"Yeah, but you like him," Bella counters. "Liking anyone can be intimidating."
Y/n sighs. "Yeah, I guess so..." she trails off.
"He definitely likes you too," Bella adds, sending the girl a side glance.
"I don't know," Y/n trails off again in denial as they enter the parking lot.
She almost immediately makes eye contact with the amber-eyed boy to her left, leaning on his silver Volvo. He gives her a charming smile, causing Y/n's to grow.
"You could always just ask Edward out. Y'know, like through a text message or something. That way there's no confrontation-. What?" Bella's sentence gets cut off by Y/n elbowing her in the ribs.
"Bella!" Y/n whisper-yells, glaring at the girl halfheartedly.
"What?" Bella blinks at her before looking past Y/n's shoulder to see Edward staring at them in astonishment. "Crap. Sorry," she apologizes, internally scolding herself for letting the secret slip.
"Is it true?" Edward asks, suddenly now standing behind Y/n, causing her to wince at the fear of rejection.
She slowly turns around to acknowledge the tall boy shyly. "Hey."
"Y/n, I'm so sorry," Bella whispers, as though Edward wouldn't be able to hear her anyway. He sends her a look, silently asking for some privacy. "I'm gonna go... See you Monday!"
The socially awkward girl turns and strolls towards her truck, preparing to leave. Just as she is about to pull out of her parking spot, she looks at the pair through the rearview mirror and smiles at their close proximity.
"Y/n?" Edward begins, returning to his prior question. "Is it true?"
"Is what true?" she asks with false cluelessness.
"Y/n," he repeats softly, tilting his head knowingly. "I can read your mind, remember?"
Y/n clenches her jaw, before sighing defeatedly. "Can we talk about this somewhere else?" she whispers, glancing around the parking lot full of exhausted students.
It wasn't just that people could eavesdrop. It's also that she'd like to postpone this conversation for as long as possible so she can gather her thoughts.
He can see the anxiety coating her mind, so he nods in reply, placing a hand on the small of her back before taking her bag off her shoulder and holding it in his free hand before leading her to his car.
The physical contact causes shivers to run up her spine, both due to his naturally cool temperature and cause it's him.
Just the simple caress of his thumb along her spine is both driving her crazy and calming her nerves at once.
He leans down toward her before softly offering, "Would you like a ride home?" in her ear.
She turns slightly, admiring his features up close, replying, "Sure."
He removes his hand from her back before opening the passenger door to his car for her politely. "Thank you," Y/n says, getting in.
Ever the gentlemen, she thinks to herself admiringly, causing Edward to smirk to himself before closing the door behind her.
She sighs, placing her head in her hands. How could she have forgotten about his telepathy?
How many times has she spent time with the boy, shamelessly admiring his handsome features, panicking over his words, or thinking up possible scenarios in her head, all the while in his presence?
This is a lot more embarrassing than she had ever hoped.
Edward opens his door before climbing into the driver's seat, his full attention on Y/n.
He closes the door behind himself before leaning back against it, facing her.
"Could-," Y/n starts nervously. "Could you not read my mind, please? Just for now?..."
Edward watches her playfully. "What if I'm enjoying your thoughts," he teases with a grin.
"Edward! Please," Y/n laughs at his amusement. "I'm serious! I'm panicking and I don't really want you to see that," she confessed honestly.
"Okay," he replies before dropping his smile, his face becoming stoic. "For you."
She looks at him skeptically, hearing how genuine his words are.
He looks at her patiently, hoping above anything else, that she trusts him. "Is it true?" Edward asks again carefully, needing to hear her say it. "Do you like me?"
Y/n leans back against the passenger door, mirroring his position.
She eyes him nervously before sighing, deciding that she might as well just confess. They've been friends for almost a year now. He deserves to know...
"No."
That word causes him to frown. "No?"
"No," she repeats vulnerably, taking a dramatic pause before pushing past any ounce of anxiety she has before admitting, "I love you."
Edward blinks at the girl.
The car is silent. Both of them can hear how fast her heart is beating, not being able to hear anything else.
She watches him hesitantly, patiently waiting for his reaction.
She takes his silence as a sign to elaborate. "I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it, Edward. Honestly, I don't know how you haven't known this entire time, but I've always been infatuated with you," she tells him sheepishly.
"I thought it was just a simple crush," Edward replies softly, not blinking once this entire time. "That it would eventually pass. I stopped reading your mind when we hung out for the sake of your privacy once it became a regular occurrence, but... I guess I was in denial before then...
"I had seen you leave school, just now, hearing your conversation, and I just... I couldn't help myself. I divulged into my impulsive desire to know, and I just..." he trails off, a grin appearing amongst his features. "You love me?"
Y/n felt like her chest was glowing with how pleased his words were making her. "I love you," she repeated, much more relaxed than before.
"I love you," Edward counters gleefully, almost like it's a compliment competition and they both just won.
She giggles at the vampire before her, satisfied with the opportunities this conversation could cause.
Edward leans forward, taking Y/n's hand in his. "Be my girlfriend."
Her smile widens. "Okay," she chuckles, leaning closer to him.
Their faces are inches apart as Edward tilts his head again, watching the girl in awe as her grin never falls. "What are you thinking about?"
"You," she admits shamelessly. Her gaze falls to his lips before quickly looking back into his eyes respectfully.
But he noticed, and he wasn't one to ignore such action. He leaned in closer, gently placing his hand along the back of her neck, allowing her to pull away if she wished to.
She didn't. Instead, she closed the space between them, placing her hand to rest along his sharp jawline as she connected their lips eagerly.
He tangles his fingers into her hair, earning a pleased hum from her in response.
His lips are firm yet soft, and ultimately feel so right against hers.
It surprises her when he suggestively spreads his lips against hers, prying hers open a little in invitation.
She complies, allowing their tongues to meet, forcing the kiss further into a lip lock.
She can't help but smirk into his lips as he eagerly moves his lips in sync with hers as their tongues dance with one another.
She lets out a breathless gasp as he takes her now-swollen bottom lip between his teeth, pulling back to look at her with black lustful eyes.
He lets it go, watching as it launches back into place.
"About time we did that," he tells her with a smirk, enjoying the hazed look on her face.
