Fuyuhiko burst into Hannah's room, his expression tight with barely restrained fury. Hannah, who had been sitting quietly on her bed reading, jumped at the sudden intrusion, her wide eyes locking onto him.
"Fuyuhiko?" she asked, startled. "What's going on?"
He didn't answer immediately, rushing straight to the window, his sharp eyes scanning the area outside for any signs of surveillance. He needed to see if there were cameras, a vantage point, anything that would explain how the Morioka clan had been able to take such invasive photos of her. His mind raced, his heart pounding with paranoia as he looked for potential hiding spots or hidden cameras.
Hannah got off the bed, her confusion growing as she watched him, a faint sense of unease creeping into her. "Is... something wrong?" she asked again, softer this time.
Fuyuhiko glanced back at her, trying to mask the anger and protectiveness burning inside him. He couldn't tell her, not yet. She still didn't know about the Morioka clan being behind the abduction, and there was no way he was going to drop that bombshell on her right now, not with how shaken she still was from everything. He needed to handle this without scaring her more.
He quickly shook his head, waving her off. "It's nothing.." he muttered, his voice a bit too gruff to be convincing. "Just checking something."
Hannah frowned, clearly not believing him. She stepped closer, her gaze fixed on him. "You don't barge into my room like that for no reason, Fuyuhiko. What aren't you telling me?"
Fuyuhiko clenched his jaw, his frustration spiking. He hated that she was asking questions, pushing for answers he wasn't ready to give her. But how could he explain this without making her feel even more unsafe than she already did?
He turned around to face her fully, trying to soften his expression, but the tension was still evident in his features. "Look," he said, his tone still firm but a little gentler. "I just want to make sure you're safe, alright? I've got people outside keeping watch, and I don't want you worrying about anything."
Hannah's frown deepened. "Safe from what? You've been acting weird ever since the attack, and now you're rushing in here looking like you're ready for war. What's really going on?"
Fuyuhiko cursed under his breath. He was terrible at hiding his emotions when it came to her. Every instinct in his body screamed to tell her the truth, to prepare her for what could come, but he couldn't do it. He couldn't burden her with that knowledge, not when she was still recovering.
"Hannah, I told you, it's nothing." he insisted, stepping closer to her and placing a hand on her shoulder. "I've just got a lot on my mind right now. But trust me, I've got everything handled."
Hannah looked up at him, clearly torn between accepting his explanation and wanting to pry deeper. She trusted Fuyuhiko, but she could feel the tension rolling off him in waves, and it only made her more anxious.
Fuyuhiko sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as he lingered by the door. "We're going to move you to another room." he said, his voice laced with hesitation, as if bracing for the argument that was sure to follow.
As expected, Hannah immediately tensed, her eyes narrowing as suspicion crept into her expression. She straightened up in bed, crossing her arms. "No." she said firmly. "I'm not moving. This is already the second room you've put me in since I got here. I want to know what's really going on, Fuyuhiko."
Her tone had shifted from confusion to determination, and Fuyuhiko could see that he wasn't going to be able to dodge her questions for much longer. She was sharper than he'd given her credit for. She wasn't just going to sit back and accept things without an explanation.
He stayed by the door for a moment, deliberating, his hand hovering near the handle as if he could escape the conversation. But he knew he couldn't keep avoiding it. Not with how much more paranoid and aggressive he had become lately. She had noticed, of course she had. She was smart, observant, and she knew something was wrong.
With a frustrated groan, he turned back to face her, running his fingers through his hair in agitation. "It's not safe." he muttered, trying to keep his voice steady, though his mind was racing. He didn't want to burden her with the truth, but he also couldn't keep her completely in the dark.
"Not safe?" Hannah repeated, her voice edged with frustration. "What does that even mean, Fuyuhiko? You've been acting weird for days. I can feel it, something's off."
Fuyuhiko clenched his fists at his sides, struggling to find the right words. He didn't want to scare her, but he had to say something. "Look, we've just... found out some things. And it's better if you're in a room where we can monitor everything more closely. Security reasons."
Hannah's frown deepened. "Security reasons? That's vague as hell, and you know it."
Fuyuhiko let out a harsh breath, his patience thinning. He could feel the weight of Saito's threats hanging over him, and the last thing he wanted was for Hannah to get caught up in it all again. But he could see the determination in her eyes, the way she refused to back down.
"Why won't you just tell me the truth?" she pressed, her voice growing more insistent. "I'm not some fragile doll, Fuyuhiko. You don't need to hide things from me."
His jaw tightened, and for a moment, he considered telling her everything; about Saito, the Morioka clan, the explicit photos, the messages. But the thought of how it would affect her, how terrified she might become, stopped him. He had promised himself that he wouldn't let her go through that kind of fear again, and telling her would only make things worse.
"You don't understand." Fuyuhiko muttered, shaking his head. "This is bigger than you realize."
"Then help me understand." Hannah said, her voice softer now but still filled with determination. "Fuyuhiko, I can't sit here blind while you and everyone around me are clearly dealing with something dangerous. I deserve to know."
Her words struck something in him, and for a brief moment, he let his guard slip. The tension in his shoulders eased slightly, and he walked closer to her, his gaze hard but conflicted.
"I'm trying to keep you safe." he said quietly, his voice almost breaking with the weight of the responsibility he carried. "You don't know what these people are capable of. They'll do whatever it takes to get to you. And I'm not going to let that happen again."
Hannah's eyes softened at his words, understanding flickering in them as she processed what he was saying. "But why me? Why are they after me?"
Fuyuhiko swallowed, hesitating for just a second before responding. "You're important, Hannah. To a lot of people. More than you know. And there are... some who want to take advantage of that."
"Quit being vague!" she snapped, her eyes widening with anxiety. "You're.. scaring me."
Fuyuhiko tensed at Hannah's sudden outburst. Her eyes were sharp, demanding answers, and he knew he couldn't avoid it any longer. He rubbed the back of his neck, trying to gather his thoughts. This wasn't something he wanted to tell her, but he had to, at least some of it.
"Hannah.." he started, voice low and tense, "It's the Morioka clan. They've been after you for a while now, and it's... it's because of your status. You're Togami's heir. Your family's power, your connections, they're valuable. And they want to take advantage of that."
Hannah's expression shifted from anger to confusion and disbelief. "W-What do you mean?"
Fuyuhiko sighed deeply, averting his eyes for a moment. "It's complicated. They're not just after money or influence. They want to use you to gain control, to force alliances. That kidnapping- it wasn't just some random attack. It was planned. They've been targeting you for months."
Hannah's hands trembled slightly as she processed his words, her frustration bubbling back to the surface. "And you're just telling me this now?" she snapped, her voice rising. "All this time, I've been in the dark, and you- everyone- just decided to keep me in the dark about this? I could've been prepared. I could've-!"
Fuyuhiko cut her off, his voice rough. "I didn't want to scare you, alright? We were trying to keep you safe. The less you knew, the better."
"Safe?" Hannah's voice cracked, and she stood up from the bed, pacing a little. "I've been in danger this whole time, haven't I? And you didn't think I deserved to know? That I deserved to have a say in my own life?"
Fuyuhiko clenched his fists, guilt twisting in his chest. He had expected her to be upset, but this was harder than he thought it'd be. She wasn't just scared; she was furious. And she had every right to be.
"I didn't want you to go through this." Fuyuhiko said, his voice quieter now. "You've been through enough. We thought we could handle it without involving you."
Hannah stopped pacing, staring at him with wide, teary eyes. "So what now? I'm just supposed to sit here and wait for them to try again? I'm supposed to keep pretending everything's normal while they're out there planning to- what? Marry me off like I'm some pawn in their sick game?"
Fuyuhiko flinched at her words, guilt gnawing at him. He hadn't told her about Saito's twisted plans for her. He couldn't bring himself to. She was already hurt and scared, and telling her that some creep was trying to force her into marriage for power would only make things worse. But seeing her like this, so angry and betrayed, made him wonder if keeping that part from her was a mistake.
"Look, we're doing everything we can to stop them." he said, trying to reassure her. "You're not alone in this. You've got people watching over you, and we'll figure this out. But you've got to trust me, Hannah."
She shook her head, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. "Trust? How am I supposed to trust you when you've been hiding all of this from me? How do I know you're telling me everything now?"
Fuyuhiko hesitated, his eyes flicking away for just a moment before meeting hers again. "I'm telling you what you need to know. Right now, we're focused on keeping you safe. That's the priority."
Hannah's frustration boiled over, her voice rising as she paced back and forth in the small room. "This is ridiculous! You think locking me away and moving me around will keep me safe? All you're doing is making me feel more like a prisoner than a protected person! I have a right to know everything- I want to know what's happening with my own life!"
Fuyuhiko watched her, heart pounding as she unleashed her pent-up emotions. He wanted to soothe her, to explain everything, but the tension in the air was palpable. "And who the hell does Saito think he is?" she continued, practically spitting out the name. "Trying to control everything, like I'm some prize to be won. This is just insane!"
Fuyuhiko's whole body went rigid when Hannah yelled Saito's name in the middle of her rant. His eyes sharpened, narrowing dangerously, and he cut off whatever she was saying with a single, cold word.
"Hannah."
She stopped, blinking at him in confusion. Her chest was still heaving from the frustration she'd been letting out, but now there was a chill in the air. She could see that something had shifted in Fuyuhiko.
"What?" she muttered, not understanding the gravity of what she'd just said. "I'm just saying, this whole thing with the Morioka clan is stupid. You're making me move rooms like I'm some-"
"Where did you hear that name?" Fuyuhiko's voice was low and sharp, his tone deadly serious. He took a step closer to her, his entire demeanor changing from the tired, guilty look he'd had moments ago to something much more intense.
Hannah faltered. "What name?"
"Saito." Fuyuhiko growled. "Where did you hear his name?"
Hannah's confusion deepened, and she glanced away as if searching her memory. "I- I don't know. I've heard people mention the Morioka clan before. They're rivals to the Kuzuryu and Togami clans, aren't they? It's not exactly a secret."
"No." Fuyuhiko's voice was tight. "It's not. But you shouldn't know the name Saito, specifically. How the hell did you know that?"
Hannah blinked, feeling a wave of unease creep over her. "I don't know! It just- came out. I've heard people talk about them. It's not like I've been completely ignorant. People talk, and I pay attention."
Fuyuhiko wasn't buying it. His instincts screamed that something was off. "Hannah." he said, his voice quieter but filled with tension, "This isn't just some random name you'd hear in passing. Saito Morioka keeps a low profile, especially with people like you who aren't involved in this world. You're from the business side of things, not the streets. So how do you know his name?"
Hannah's mind raced as Fuyuhiko's intense gaze stayed locked on her. She had no idea that simply mentioning Saito's name would trigger such a reaction from him. But now, standing there under his scrutiny, she realized she'd made a grave mistake.
Saito Morioka. Her stomach twisted as memories from a few nights ago came rushing back. The bar. The mission. That night, she'd been used as a distraction. She hadn't thought much of it at the time, just another task in a long line of dangerous missions. But now it was all coming back. The encounter with a man... Saito.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she replayed the scene in her head. He'd been charming, smooth even. His eyes had lingered on her, his smile sharp like he knew something she didn't. Hannah hadn't known who he was at the time. She was just supposed to be the distraction, drawing the attention of anyone in the bar while the others completed their part of the mission. Saito had been a fleeting moment in a chaotic night, a stranger she brushed off like all the rest.
Except now, hearing his name come out of Fuyuhiko's mouth with such venom, she realized that encounter hadn't been random. Saito knew exactly who she was, and what she represented.
It had seemed insignificant at the time, just a quick conversation, a passing moment, nothing worth reporting. But now, with the way Fuyuhiko was reacting, it was clear that she should've mentioned it. But how could she explain that now, without raising even more questions?
Fuyuhiko was still waiting for an answer, his patience wearing thin as silence stretched between them. Hannah could see the gears turning in his head, could sense his suspicion growing with every second she didn't respond.
Hannah stared at him, her pulse quickening. She'd never seen him look so serious, so intense, and it was unnerving. "I... I don't know." she stammered again. "Maybe someone said it in passing? I didn't think it was a big deal."
Fuyuhiko wasn't convinced. His hands clenched into fists, and his mind raced. Had someone gotten close to her? Had someone been feeding her information without her realizing it?
"Damn it." he muttered under his breath, pacing in front of her. His thoughts kept returning to the photos, the surveillance, the obsession Saito seemed to have with her. Was it possible that Saito had been closer than they realized? Had he found a way to get into her head, to make her aware of him without her even knowing?
She swallowed hard, trying to keep her voice steady. "Look, I don't know why I said his name. Maybe I overheard it when people were talking about the Morioka clan, I don't-"
Fuyuhiko cut her off, stepping closer. "You're lying." His voice was quiet but sharp, and it cut through her weak attempt at deflection. "You're holding something back. I can tell."
Hannah's heart raced in her chest. She felt trapped, cornered, and she knew she wouldn't be able to keep the truth from him for long. Fuyuhiko wasn't someone she could fool easily, and the more she hesitated, the more dangerous this conversation became.
She looked at Fuyuhiko, still furious, still trying to figure out how she'd come into contact with Saito. Should she tell him? The thought gnawed at her. She hadn't mentioned it because it seemed so insignificant at the time, and after the mission ended, it just slipped her mind. But now, with Fuyuhiko practically radiating with rage, she was starting to regret keeping that detail to herself.
Hannah took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. "Saito.." she started, her voice soft and uncertain. "I... ran into him a couple of nights ago."
Fuyuhiko's eyes darkened immediately, the tension in the room thickening. "You what?"
Hannah swallowed hard. "That mission... when I had to be the distraction. I was at the bar and there was a guy who came up to me, and he- well, he started talking to me. He seemed... interested."
Fuyuhiko's jaw clenched, his fists tightening at his sides as he listened. His fury was simmering just below the surface, barely held in check. "And you didn't think to tell me?"
"I didn't think it was a big deal, I didn't even know who he was at the time. Well.. I mean- he mentioned his name but I didn't know he was dangerous or anything-!" Hannah's voice rose in frustration.
Fuyuhiko's eyes flared with anger, and he turned away from her, running a hand through his hair in exasperation. "Damn it, Hannah. You should've told me the moment it happened. Saito doesn't just 'randomly' approach people. Especially not you."
Hannah felt a wave of guilt wash over her. "I know- I'm sorry. But nothing happened. He didn't hurt me, he didn't say anything threatening!"
"That doesn't matter." Fuyuhiko growled, turning back to her. "Saito's dangerous. If he was there, talking to you, he had a reason. And the fact that he approached you at all means he's been watching you. Probably has been for longer than you realize."
Hannah bit her lip, realizing the gravity of the situation. "What do we do now?"
"We move you. Immediately." Fuyuhiko said, his voice hard. "I'll post more guards. And from now on, you don't go anywhere alone. Not even for a second."
Hannah felt a lump form in her throat. She had never been one to feel vulnerable, but the way Fuyuhiko spoke, the seriousness in his tone, made her feel exposed in a way she hadn't before. "Fuyuhiko... I'm sorry."
His eyes softened for a brief moment, but only for a moment. "I'm not mad at you," he said quietly. "I'm mad at myself for not protecting you better. But from now on, I'm not letting you out of my sight. Saito won't get another chance."
Hannah nodded, feeling the weight of his words settle over her. She knew he meant it, but she also knew that this wasn't over. By the sound of it, the Morioka clan wasn't going to stop, and the thought of Saito watching her, waiting, made her skin crawl.
Fuyuhiko wrapped his arms around Hannah, pulling her close against him as his chin rested gently on top of her head. He sighed deeply, his voice a low mutter as he spoke, mostly to himself, "Saito's a damn perv... dangerous too. I should've known he'd try something like this. Always lurking, waiting for a chance."
Hannah fidgeted nervously in his embrace, her fingers unconsciously reaching for his tie, twisting and untwisting the fabric in anxious movements. The weight of everything was starting to settle on her, she hadn't realized how much danger she was truly in. Saito wasn't just a rival clan leader, he was targeting her specifically. She hadn't wanted to accept it before, but Fuyuhiko's protectiveness and anger made it clear how serious things had become.
She hesitated for a moment, her hands still playing with the tie. "I don't... I don't want to keep running." she whispered,
