Weeks passed and before you knew it, it was late November.
You and your psycho friend group had hung out multiple times, from bowling to movie nights, there was never a dull moment with them.
You and Mitsuri had been hard at work, slaving away in the art department for hours on end.
You had been working on a collection of paintings that were going to be showcased at an exhibition, and although the deadline was in January, you wanted everything to be perfect.
One time, Giyuu had to physically drag you away from the art department so you could work on your photography project, which was coming on nicely.
You had gotten slightly closer this past month, the awkward tension between you two was drifting away, and you had started talking to eachother like actual friends.
You were sitting in the library on a slightly chilly, November afternoon, getting on with an essay for your art history class.
It was mostly quiet, with students working diligently by themselves or in small groups. The occasional conversation echoed between the bookshelves, yet it was somewhat soothing, like white noise.
"Mind if I join you?" a voice that had recently become a lot more familiar, asked.
You looked up, eyes meeting his and invited him to sit down.
"What are you working on?" he asked.
"An essay for my art history class," you said, sighing "It's quite interesting to be honest, but I've been so tired today,"
He leaned back in his chair. "Oh yeah? You should call it a day then L/n and go home and sleep,"
"Actually I had planned to go to the painting studio after this,"
"Your plans have changed because after this I'm taking you straight home so you can sleep."
You knew he was right, so you didn't argue back.
"Fine," you groaned, gently placing your head on the table.
-
"I thought we agreed you'd go home?" Giyuu asked, raising an eyebrow as you dragged him towards the art department, so you could pick up some paint brushes you had left earlier.
"I'll be like two seconds I promise I just need to grab something real quick," you reassured him.
Unconvinced by your response, he reluctantly followed you inside.
You walked over towards where you usually worked as Giyuu admired the art that hung on the wall, with your name signed in cursive at the bottom.
"Is this yours?" he asked, looking at a large, acrylic painting you had done earlier in the term.
"Yeah," you said, walking towards him and glancing up at your own work.
"It's gorgeous L/n, fucking hell,"
His eyes stayed fixated on the wall, as you almost subconsciously shifted your gaze to his face.
Your heart rate increased as he turned his head to look back at you, even more so as Giyuu leaned in a little, and gently grazed the pad of his thumb against your cheek.
"Sorry you had something on your face," he quickly justified.
Your lips parted as if you wanted to say something, but no words came out.
Once again, he had rendered you speechless.
He walked you back to your dorm, and you thanked him. That small interaction did something you, yet you couldn't figure out what.
Pushing your thoughts about Giyuu and art to the side, you invited your friend group over and settled for a movie marathon.
-
"Y/n give me the fucking remote." Sanemi growled.
"Nuh uh. It's my turn to pick the movie remember."
Tengen, who was sitting to your left, jumped up to intervene but accidentally whacked Mitsuri in the face in the process, causing Obanai to shoot daggers at him.
"Kanroji, move next to me I don't want you getting hurt," the boy hissed, before Mitsuri scooched over next to him.
Eventually, everyone calmed down, and the movie became almost like backround noise.
You learnt that Sanemi was very close to being kicked off his course because he threw something at his professor.
"Sanemi, there was no need to throw a chair at Professor Himejima he was just doing his job," Shinobu tried to explain, calmly.
Everyone went back and forth with eachother for a while, exchanging snarky but light hearted remarks until the movie was finished and everyone made their way back to their respective accomodation.
"Night Y/n," Rengoku smiled, before walking out the door.
Your body grew heavy as the day caught up for you, and the second you hit the pillow you were out like a light.
-
The loud ringing noise of your phone woke you up.
Without looking at who was calling, you answered.
"Who the hell is calling me at this-"
"Hi honey!"
Your mother's voice shrieked through the phone, almost shattering your delicate eardrums.
"Hi...sorry I didn't realise it was you..." You sat up and leaned against the wall of your bed.
She chuckled lightheartedly.
"I just thought I'd let you know I'm in town to visit you!"
Your eyes widened and you brought the blanket that was at your feet closer up to you.
"That's great Mum. Uh...where and when are we seeing eachother,"
"Actually..." she began "I'm with Giyuu's Mum so me, you, her and Giyuu are going out for dinner this evening."
Oh.
Oh.
You pretty much let her talk the rest of the conversation, ocassionally chiming in. She sounded excited, and you didn't want to take that away from her.
"See you at 7!!" was the last thing she said before hanging up.
You let your phone drop in your lap before picking it up again and tapping Giyuu's contact.
T
You
guess who we're seeing later
T
we?
You
my mother just called.
T
how cute.
You
cute?
T
see you later L/n :)
A smile crept up on your face at that last message.
You kicked the blanket off before making your way to your wardrobe, looking for something to wear.
You slipped into a hoodie and sweats and made your way to the kitchen for a cup of coffee.
Mitsuri was out with Obanai so you had the place to yourself.
You ended up settling for a bit of casual painting, completely unrelated to your classes, just something relaxing to take your mind off things.
But, that ended quickly after you heard a knock at the door.
You jogged over before opening it swiftly and much to your surprise, you were met with a pair of blue eyes and a mop of black hair.
"What are you doing here?" you asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I can leave if you'd like?" he responded, almost turning around.
"No it's fine you can stay! I just wasn't expecting you."
He almost smiled as he invited himself in.
"I wanted to work on our project a little more," he finally admitted.
He plonked himself down on the sofa as you brought him over a glass of water.
"How did you know I'd be home?"
"Intuition." he stated impassively.
It grew silent, but unlike the past, it was a comfortable silence, one you almost craved.
It stayed like that for a few moments, before you spoke again.
"How much left of it do we actually have to do?"
"Not much," he began "We've developed all the photos so I guess it's just bringing the whole thing together,"
Giyuu got out his laptop and you scrolled through the photos together.
However your mind kept wandering to later, and he noticed.
"You okay?"
"Yeah just thinking about the dinner later." you bit the inside of your cheek.
"We'll be fine I promise." he gave you a look of reassurance.
-
After working on the project for about an hour and half or so, Giyuu left but agreed to pick you up later to take you to the restaurant.
Mitsuri came home shortly afterwards as well, and gave you her daily round up with Obanai.
"I really really like him Y/n!!" she gushed, almost squealing.
You were happy for her, truly.
"What about you y/n? Anyone caught your eye recently?" she asked, resting her chin in her palms.
Your mind wandered to Giyuu, but you did your best to ignore it. After all, you were just friends.
"Not really," you brushed your fingers through your hair.
"What about Giyuu?" your roommate asked.
"..."
"You guys would look so good together and you've been spending a lot of time with him lately!!"
"We're just friends," you chuckled "We're probably just playing nice for the project anyway,"
"Okay...but let me know if that changes Y/n,"
"Yes ma'am," you concurred, leaning back against the sofa.
