CHAPTER FIVE!
                      — Limerence

" At least you can broaden your
chicks, prongs."

THE BLONDE WATCHED AS HER BEST FRIEND AND LILY EVANS FLIRTED. Ember and the O'Connor were walking down to breakfast together when Lily ran up to him. Her cheeks were red as soon as River faced her. Ember felt the same churning feeling in her gut.

Ophelia had left to go find her boyfriend so Ember really didn't have an escape as the two flirted with eachother and completely acted as if Ember wasn't there. That was a new issue. After her kitchen adventure with James last night, the common room was empty apart from River and Ophelia who were waiting for her.

Apparently Ember had missed a lot of inside jokes that were created in just the three hours that she was gone. Ophelia attempted to fill her in, River didn't seem like he cared much.

Ember glanced over at the two- instantly regretting it when she saw River becoming stiffer as Lily's fingers touched his, wrapping their hands together. Her eyes quickly fled the scene and her feet subconsciously picked up their paste.

She wanted nothing more than to escape the hell that was happening infront of her eyes.

"Oi! Shut up Prongs!" Yelled a familiar voice. Ember could recognize it from the voice she heard in many of her classes over the years.

She turned her head around to see the Marauders. Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, and James Potter.

She sighed in relief and slowed her pace down. "Hello boys- need some extra company?"

Remus's -and James's, not that no one noticed- eyes lit up at the blonde. Remus extended his arm for her to take it in his. "Ah yes we could. Wheres the two other idiots?"

Ember dramatically sighed. "Ophelia has a boyfriend and River is in love with some redhead."

James frowned at the statement. Pretty much the whole school knew of the bubbling romance between the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. "Don't remind me" he groaned.

Sirius laughed loudly. "At least you can broaden your chicks prongs!"

Ember saw Peter roll his eyes. "You shouldn't talk about women like that." The blonde stuck out her arm that wasn't hooked with Remus and gave him a high-five.

"It's official. Pettigrew is officially cooler than all of you wankers."

Peter smiled sheepishly at the complement. Remus had laughed and shoved Ember slightly. James let out an exaggerated sigh and Sirius stopped in his tracks. Throwing one of his hands up to block them.

"And to think we could be married one day White." He sighed. The other boys laughed, though Remus's had sounded a little more forced. Ember raised her eyebrow and glanced at the boy who quickly averted his eyes.

"Your a walking STD black." Ember shrugged as she began walking again. Sirius finally following her.

"Yet Miss Skylar White still snogged me." He whistled. Ember's mouth dropped. She glanced to James a 'is this bitch for real?' Look on her face. He busted out laughing and nodded his head.

"Ew. Ew. Oh my god!" Ember shuddered. Peter chuckled loudly. "I never needed to know that you gave my older sister- my perfect, head girl, gorgeous sister an STD!"

"Sirius gives STD's by looking at people." James smirked. Ember laughed loudly. The boys ears were filled with the melody of it. Everyone but Remus was affected. Her smile was charming to everyone around her and her laugh made them gather themselves for a moment.

Sirius ruins every moment.

"Are you like a Veela?"

Ember raised her eyebrows. "I don't know wether to be offended or complemented. I'm not, I just like to think I won the genetics lottery."

James smiled at her as she began to skip down the hallways, "c'mon! We have to get out perfect little girl moment here ladies!"

"Yes!" Sirius cried happily as him and Ember began skipping down the corridor. James laughed and yelled,

"Wait up you tossers!"

The three of them were arm in arm skipping down the corridors- not caring of the weird looks the other people were giving them. They didn't care much. Ember never cared personally, she wanted to enjoy every little part about her life and not worry about the judgement of others. She has so reason to care- so why would she?

Ember was happy. Happiness is often short-lived as many people would say. They stopped skipping and entered the great hall. Embers eyes instantly caught Rivers at the Hufflepuff table. Lily was siting by him and the smile on her face faltered slightly-she would never let anyone notice-. She could see James's completely drop.

"H-hey! Remember room of requirements tonight!" He whispered before running off with Sirius who had bolted to get the pancakes.

Ember sighed as she went to the Hufflepuff table. Ophelia was with Lily and River. She saw Ember and the corners of her mouth pulled up greatly. "Em! Have you properly met Evans yet?"

Ember kept her smile on as she shook her head. "I don't believe so- we've had perfect rounds together before but we never talked much." Lily giggled slightly and nodded. Ember felt the same tug at her chest. Her giggle was gorgeous. She was gorgeous. No wonder River fancied her. "Anyway- how are you Miss Evans?"

Lily laughed, throwing her head back. River friend sheepishly. "Tired- your sister made me do prefect rounds for forever last night- no issues though- but I'm good this morning!"

Ember nodded and went to go grab a mint chocolate. Ophelia caught her eye and the look was giving off, 'are you alright? Are you going to cry? Do you need to punch something?' Vibes to the blonde.

Ember and Ophelia engaged in their own conversations- growing tired of the constant flirting between Lily and River. That was before River muttered something to lily and turned to face his two best friends.

"So, Me and Lily are dating."

Embers eyes widened. Sure, it wasn't much of surprise, that didn't mean it didn't hurt any less. She quickly hid the surprise in her face and came up with a response, "Lily and I"

River looked at Ember like she had gone insane, "what?"

"It's lily and I not me and Lily. Lily and I are dating."

Ember could see Ophelia trying not to laugh. Her cheeks were getting red and were puffing out. River looked scandalized and the ginger just look awkward. River coughed, "y-yeah."

Ember gave a sickly sweet smile to the couple. "Congratulations." Her voice dropped to a whisper, "I guess"

The rest of breakfast was just as bad as the beginning. Ember was being as sarcastic as ever, completely ignoring River's presents and talking to lily only. At one point she even whispered to the girl next to her 'did you hear something?' Ophelia was crying by the end of it. As soon as River left with Lily she let her laughter out. Grabbing the table for support. Ember just stared off in space, not even noticing her best friend dying of laughter.

Also unnoticed by the blonde, was that five Gryffindors were watching the exchange.

Skylar White had a frown on her face. She knew about her sisters ever living crush on River O'Connor. Ginny Rodney was next to her, the two had finally started dating the night before. She took in the frown on her girlfriends face.

"Sky?" She spoke in her normal calm voice. Skylar looked to Ginny.

"Oh yeah?" Skylar put on a sad smile. Ginny frowned at her girlfriend. She knew how close her and Ember had been. Aries was always more independent so growing up it was the two girls and the two girls only.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah... Ember looks so disappointed. It's her crush- he's dating someone else." She let out a long sigh. Ginny grabbed her hand.

"Embers strong- she'll get over it."

The four other gryffindors were none other than the Marauders. Remus had a large frown on his face from seeing one of his best friends look so defeated, James was close to tears because Lily had actually began dating someone else. Sirius was trying to lighten up the mood with jokes, and Peter was frowning as-well.

"Of course my flower is dating that Lake!" James groaned.

Sirius smirked. "You could drown the lake in the lake." He laughed at his own joke but none of the boys seemed to enjoy it.

"And look at poor blondie!" A loud sigh came out of James's mouth- truth was he found Embers presence very enjoyable the night before, and he was counting down the moments until 11:00.

"I know! She looks miserable..." Remus looked down before his eyes shot up at James. "Why do you care?"

Peter seemed to catch on "blondie?" He shared a glance with Remus. Sirius was watching the exchange with a raised eyebrow before going 'ooohhh!' And turning to face James.

James looked at his best-friends weirdly, "okay... this is weird. What did I do this time?"

"You called her blondie." Sirius laughed. He was totally using that name for the youngest White later on.

"You cared about someone other than Lily." Remus acknowledged with a large smirk on his face.

James laughed, shoving Sirius. "Honestly, am I not allowed to have pet names for people?" He looked at Remus, "and care for anyone that isn't my future wife?"

Remus sighed, okay so maybe James wasn't getting over Lily. Sirius had dropped his mouth and opened his eyes- you could compare him to a fish in that moment.

"no."

James glared at Sirius. Hazel eyes meeting his Grey. "That is not true! I care about you guys."

"You told Moony to jump off the astronomy tower because he wouldn't go down to the kitchens and get you mac n' cheese." Peter laughed, a small finger pointed quizzically at James.

"I was on my man period!"

The three laughed at James comment. James kept a frown on his face however, did his friends really not think he cared about them enough?

Did he really only care about Lily Evans?

James Fleamont Potter was very confused at this moment. Two walls pushing into him quickly- but he had found the off button.

The off button taking place as a small, loud, Hufflepuff with hair as white as her last name.
