Years ago was a house beside the mountains in a province in Japan. It was a wooden house where lived an old man who feeds the animals who comes to his backyard on a daily basis.

That old man is your grandfather who lived by a province a little far from the modern civilization of Tokyo. You visits him with your parents once in a few months to check on him even though your uncle and his family lives with your grandfather.

Said man sat on their covered patio, feeding the animals as usual, even the unusual animal with a body of a child and a head of a boar. One of his eldest grandson approached him, putting down a couple of onigiris (japanese rice balls) beside him.

It wasn't anything new to the grandson ever since he was still a child back then he sees this weird boar toddler crawling on fours eating the pieces of bread on the ground along with the other animals.

The grandson shrieked in fear when the child wearing a head of a boar approached him and snatched the onigiri from his grandfather.

"Hey! That's not yours! Gramps, you gotta discipline that boar child or else he might eat you one day!"

From the frontyard stepped a family of three, they were by the commotion coming from the back of the house.

"What's going on there?" Your mother asked craning her neck in hopes to see what's going on.

"It must have been Yoshio and the animals father feeds in the backyard daily." Your uncle sighed and led you inside the traditional wooden house.

"Nii's outside? I wanna see!" you tugged at your mother's yukata, eyes glimmering in excitement. Once you've received the most anticipated nod of the day, you ran outside to the engawa.

Yoshio, your older cousin is running around in circles as a child with a head of a boar greeted your sight. Your grandfather ate silently while watching the scenario like it's nothing out of ordinary.

"Ahhhh! (Y/n) get out of the way!" you snapped back in reality as your cousin ran towards your direction.

"Wait you, dummy. Don't go over here!" you scolded him as he jumped to the wooden floor, running past you.

You expected the boar boy to crash to you and knock you down to the floor. However, your eyes snapped open as you felt a wind brushed past you, you look up and saw the boy jumped over your head.

He landed on Yoshio's back making his face plant onto the wooden surface. "I've won! The king of the mountains, Hashibira Inosuke!"

The boy took of his mask revealing short black hair that fades into ocean blue. He was grinning from ear to ear as he pressed his foot against your cousin's head.

He tilted his head backwards to look down at everything else surrounding him, his eyes eyes that replicates the deep blue ocean landed on your (e/c) ones.

He stopped and went silent for a moment before his ear started turning red and growled at you, "What're you staring at? You wanna challenge Inosuke-sama to a fight?!"

Startled, you stepped backwards and ran through the engawa and entering a room to find your parents.

Everytime you would come and visit, you would encounter Inosuke, who you learned was a child who grew up in the wild, and you made friends with him.

Everything went well between the two of you. It was the days of your childhood where poppy love occurred, capturing your heart and placing within the palm of another person.

Those are days you would like to go back to...

But it was all in the past.

Your grandfather died and your uncle moved to Tokyo, leaving you with no reason to come and visit the old house. To see Inosuke.

How you wish you could just bring back the days you spent with him.

You wonder if he ever waited there in your backyard to see you and received food from your grandfather. The thought of him sitting on the ground while staring at the sky full of hopes as he waits patiently broke your heart.

"Inosuke, just kill it already!" A blonde boy layed on the piles of debris, grasping his broken leg.

The black haired boy gripped his swords within his hands. " "

The demon's eyes widened behind their mask as they tried hard to crawl away from the scene. As they turned around, the wind breezed past them whispering to their ears followed by a loud thud as a head rolled onto the floor.

The wooden mask fell onto the dirt floor as tears cascaded and flopped down onto the ground.

It was no lie when they said that your life will flash right before your eyes at your very last breath.

A smile tugged at the corner of your lips as your eyes trailed over to the grinning boy above you. As the scene fades away slowly to the boy standing a good two meters away from you.

You couldn't hear what he was saying but you could make out the very least of what's coming from his mouth.

"Hey. It's (mispelled name)." you greeted lamely, attempting to raise your hand and cup his face but couldn't feel your limbs.

"(Y/n)?"

"Yeah."

He finally got it right. Took him five years to do so. As you'd like to tease him about it, half of your face had turned into ashes as you slowly deteriorates.

Maybe in your next life, you wouldn't have to leave everything else behind.

But for now, there's nothing you could do about your situation, couldn't reach out to him or apologize. Can't hug him and share your smiles.

All those chances, they're all in the past.
