"How can you miss someone
you've never met?
'Cause I need you now but I don't
know you yet"

THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEW

Before the death of Captain Steve Rogers, he saved over 200 men, in the 107th regiment, from the cells of Hydra. That night, everyone celebrated with laughter and cheer, but mostly liquor. But Captain Rogers had a different celebration with Agent Peggy Carter at the hotel about one mile away from the bar.

A few months after that night, and Captain Rogers' sacrifice, Agent Carter realized she was bearing a child. She knew that the child would be in danger, since there were many who sought to replicate the Super Soldier Serum, that was now flowing through the blood of the child. Agent Carter realized that her baby would have to live a life of secrecy. Very few people could know about the baby's existence.

Months go by again and Peggy Carter has given birth to Sarah Jamie Carter. Peggy wanted to honor Steve with the ones he loved most. So she named their daughter Sarah, after his mother, and Jamie, after Sergeant James Barnes, his best friend. The only other people who knew of Sarah were Howard Stark, Edwin and Ana Jarvis, and the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR).

Of course as Sarah grew up, Peggy noticed her abnormal strength. Howard confirmed that the Super Soldier Serum affects Sarah the same way it affected Steve Rogers. Enhanced both physically and mentally.

Peggy Carter couldn't save Captain Rogers from his death, but maybe, she could save what he left behind.

SARAH'S POINT OF VIEW

1954

"Sugar?" Mr. Jarvis asked, gesturing the tiny jar of sugar to me.

"Yes, please." I replied, before he took a spoonful of the sugar and poured it in my cup. I stirred the tea and took a sip, feeling the warmth of it travel from my mouth down to my throat.

"Quite the downpour it is out there." Mr. Jarvis commented, referring to the rain, as he poured the milk into his tea.

"It certainly is." I looked out the window, sipping on my tea. "I hope Mum doesn't catch a cold." I added. I had a very noticeable English accent, something I just had, growing up around English people.

"Oh, trust me. You're mother has been through much worse than a cold." Mr. Jarvis remarked.

"Like what?" I questioned, curiously, raising my eyebrow.

"Things that are too unpleasant for an eight year old to know of, Miss Carter." Mr. Jarvis assured before taking a sip of his tea.

"Eight and a quarter, Mr. Jarvis." I reminded with a smile, which he chuckled at. You could say that I can be a bit of a smart arse at times. "Did Mum say when she would be back?" I asked.

"I don't think so. She is quite busy, being the director of S.H.I.E.L.D and everything." Mr. Jarvis answered.

Ah yes, S.H.I.E.L.D. The only other people who know I exist, besides Mum, Mr. Stark, and Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis. Mum said I had to live a private life for my own safety. No public school, not a lot of friends.

I heard steps coming towards the small table Mr. Jarvis and I sat at. It was Mrs. Jarvis.

"I just got off the phone with Peggy. She'll be here to pick you up soon." Mrs. Jarvis said with her heavy Hungarian accent. When Mum was at work, I stayed with Mr. Jarvis in one of Mr. Stark's mansions. Yeah, ONE OF THEM.

"Thank you, Mrs. Jarvis." I smiled, setting down my tea cup on its saucer.

"Of course, sweetie." Mrs. Jarvis said with a big smile. Her and Mr. Jarvis practically raised me alongside Mum. They were family to me. Plus, the two were quite adorable as a married couple.

Obviously, it was fun having these people as my family. But there was something missing. Something I have always wanted.

           My father.

Mum told me so much about him, how he was so kind and gentle, but also brave. He wasn't afraid of anything, and he saved a lot of people. I wished I could be like that. I wished I could just meet him. But Mum also told me how he sacrificed his life to save the world.

I know this is selfish and I shouldn't say it, but sometimes I wish he didn't. Sometimes, I wish he didn't crash that plane to save millions of lives.

Because then, I would have a father.

I stared down at the plate of food, resting the side of my face on my knuckles, while picking at the food with my fork.

"You're not eating? I thought you liked the pasta." Mum said before taking a bite of her food.

"I do. Just don't have an appetite." I responded, still staring down at the pasta, Mum turned her gaze towards me.

"Sarah, what's bothering you?" Mum asked.

Don't let anyone tell you it's easy having an agent for your Mother, she'll see through everything.

"Am I a bad person for wishing my dad didn't die, saving everyone?" I stopped picking at my food, but kept looking down, avoiding Mum's eyes. Mum paused for a moment, putting down her fork before she let out a sigh.

"No, you're not." She answered. "Because I felt the same way nine years ago. But Sarah, you have to remember that he made his choice."

"I just wish I could meet him." I said, softly, looking up from my plate to Mum's eyes.

"I do, too." Mum placed her hand on top of mine and held it on the table. "And I'm sure that if he were here today, he would love you till the end of time." I gave Mum a small smile.

"Can you tell me more stories about him before bed?" I asked.

"Of course, you go ahead and get washed up." Mum gave me soft smile and squeezed my hand tightly.

I brushed my wavy hair that reached just passed my shoulders, sitting in front of my vanity mirror. I put down my hair brush as I stared at my reflection, taking one last look at myself in my light blue nightgown with frills across the shoulders.

On the corner of the table of my vanity mirror was my video camera. It was a birthday gift from Mr. Stark, built it himself. I did use it quite often, I just liked to record things. Moments that are worth looking back on.

I move from the mirror to the bed, sitting on the mattress and covering my legs with the blanket. Three gentle knocks came from my wooden door.

"Come in." I responded. The door opened and Mum peaked her head in before walking through the doorway.

"All ready for bed?" Mum asked and I nodded my head. I noticed her holding a small, flat black box. She sat on the bed, in front of me. "I have something for you." Mum opened the box and placed it in my palms. Inside were two silver, oval shaped tags.

"Dog tags?" I questioned, a bit confused.

"They were your father's, when he first joined the army." Mum answered. I picked up one of the tags to see the words engraved on it and read:

ROGERS
STEVEN G.
BROOKLYN, NY

Where Dad was born, where I was born.

"Sarah, I want you to keep these, so you'll always have a little part of him with you." Mum explained. I just ran my finger through the bumpy words.

"I love them, thank you." I replied and picked up both of the dog tags to wear them around my neck.

"How about, I tell you a story from before your father became a Super Soldier?" Mum stood up from the bed, while taking the empty box, and sat down in the chair next to me.

"Okay." I smiled as I slipped into the covers and laid my head on the pillow.

"Before your father became a Super Soldier, Dr. Erskine had to pick someone for the experiment. Now, General Phillips wanted him to pick a soldier, and his name was Hodge."

I could already tell he was a jerk from the sound of his name.

"Hodge was fairly strong and tall, but he was also mean and wasn't nice to a lot of people."

"He was a bully." I added on.

"Yes, he was." Mum nodded her head. "I even punched him in the face once." She whispered, and a big smile formed on my face.

"Really?" I asked in excitement.

"Mmm hmm." Mum smiled. "And then, there was Steve Rogers." I smiled at my dad's name. "Rogers wasn't very strong and tall like the other soldiers. But, he cared about everyone and had the biggest heart. Although, General Phillips thought that wasn't enough."

What do you mean "not enough"? My father was more than enough.

"General Phillips wanted to test the soldiers' bravery. So, he threw a dummy grenade where they were training. Of course, all the soldiers ran away, finding cover. But not Rogers." Mum grinned. "Your father threw himself onto the grenade, trying to shield everyone else from it."

My eyes widened in shock. He didn't know the grenade was fake, he was ready to die just to save everyone. Even before he became a Super Soldier.

"And I'm sure you know the rest." Mum stroked her hand through my hair. "I think that's all for tonight. You have tutoring in the morning."

"Do I have to?" I whined. Tutors were not my favorite.

"Yes, Sarah. You know you can't go to a public school. Remember that..."

"A secret life is a safe one." Mum and I said in sync.

"I know." I softly replied. I knew there were bad people out there. If they knew who I was, they would never stop looking for me. Mum gave me a soft smile and held the side of my face in her palm.

"Goodnight, darling." Mum whispered.

"Goodnight." I smiled. Mum pulled on the chain of the lamp on my nightstand, turning it off. I turned my body, facing the other side of the room as Mum left. I held the metal tags hanging off my neck.

"Sarah Rogers." I whispered to myself. I liked the sound of it, imagining if I actually had a father. Until, my eyelids eventually grew heavy, and I was asleep.

an // first chapter y'all !!!!

also you're probably wondering why in the beginning of the story i mentioned the SSR and then changed it to SHIELD. that's cuz in the agent carter series, the SSR was the intelligence organization peggy worked at, and the show took place like a year after captain america: tfa. and in agents of shield, SHIELD was already founded when they time traveled to 1956 i think. so i figured that peggy and howard would've founded SHIELD by 1954.

ALSO, in agent carter, peggy had this really amazing character development. and i would be an absolute jerk if i pretended like it didn't happen (*cough cough RUSSO BROTHERS)

so basically in this story, peggy did let steve go and accepted that he was gone... so that she could go hook up with sousa ten minutes later OOP-

but of course peggy is taking care of sarah since that's a big part of him that he left behind (unknowingly).

anyways that's all, bye lovelies
