Third Person's Point Of View:
Sunlight seeped in between the bustling leaves. It was a like a scene in a shoujo manga. The wind blew gently. Sakusa noted of how peaceful their walk to thhe gym. And it got even better.
"Sakusa-kun!" you yelled as you saw him and Komori-kun heading towards the volleyball gymnasium.
"Minami-san."
They stopped in their tracks and waited for the girl to catch up.
"You two," you breathed in and out deeply when you finally reached them, "have really long legs."
Komori laughed a little while Kiyoomi offered you his water bottle.
Yes, yes, he did.
Komori rolled his eyes at the gesture, all he wants now is for you two to be a couple. He's sick of having to see all these little changes of attitude in Kiyoomi. They were sickeningly sweet.
Since you are too distracted of your breathing exercise to notice that it resembled the moment you started liking him, you accepted his water bottle without giving it much thought.
Komori widened his eyes when you accepted it. His eyes immediately looked at his cousin. Sakusa was unfazed by the fact that someone else is drinking from his water bottle. Not to mention, having an indirect kiss with the person he liked.
"Show some reaction, darn it," he thought, wanting to see the germaphobe flustered. Just for once, he wanted to see this stoic man looking all red because of those butterflies in his stomach. That'll be tricky though, Kiyoomi doesn't like insects.
You gave him his water bottle back and that's when you realized what just happened.
"Shoot! No! Uhm, give it back!"
"You need more water?" He asked as he offered you it once more.
"No! I'll wash it thoroughly! And give it back to you after sanitizing it!" you exclaimed and reach for it but when he finally understood you, he lifted it up.
He watched as you pouted and tried to reach it.
"Cute." he thought.
Before saying anything, he thought of what he should say. He decided to give his water bottle back so that it wouldn't raise suspicion.
"Here," he said and gave it to her, "why were you chasing after us?"
You were taken back by his randomness. One second, he's making you struggle to reach the bottle from him and the next, he's asking you something else.
"You two are headed to the volleyball gym, right?"
"Yes."
"Let me come with you! I'm going to ask the teacher adviser to give me a note so that I can print posters for the volleyball club. After all, I did tell you that I'm going to help find you a manager. And I feel guilty for not being that."
"Woah, did he ask you to become our manager?" Komori asked.
"Yes, he did. Unfortunately, I can't." It sucks.
"Wow." He said, in awe of how bold his cousin is. He took Kiyoomi's hand and shook it. The man was not happy about that.
"Hmm?" You hummed as you looked at Komori. It's unusual for Kiyoomi to ask someone that, but she didn't expect to earn this reaction from Komori.
"Nothing!" he said, "I'm going to go first because I just remembered that I need to do something before practicing. Bye!"
Before they could react, he was already running away.
"He shouldn't run that fast because he'll be tired even before your practice starts," you commented. "Does he need energy bars later? I could buy," you asked Sakusa.
"No, he doesn't. He's filled with energy anyway," he replied and turned around to start walking.
"Well, do you need one?" You followed him and walked beside him with a reasonable distance from each other.
"I don't waste my energy on useless things."
You just smiled.
"So," you started, trying to make conversation with your crush, "I heard you are one of the top five aces in Japan?"
He felt proud of himself because you knew that. A lot of people already knew that, but it hits different that you do.
"Part of the top 3, really."
You beamed with joy, "Really? I mean, really? That's so cool!"
He glanced at you and smirked underneath his mask.
"Is it just like, in the second year players or overall?"
"I'm the only second year among the top."
"Woah," you clapped your hands, "congratulations, Sakusa-kun!"
"Thanks."
"Hmm." You refused to let the conversation end, so you continued speaking, "Makes sense why you have a lot of fans."
"They're all disgustingly loud and always seemed to want me to take a picture them," he scoffed, "as if."
"Come on, they just want a picture with an amazing player!"
"They probably don't know that much of volleyball."
You chuckled at that. That was possible.
"I have come to a few of your games and are your wrists okay?"
He laughed at that.
You almost squealed right then and there because of how his laugh sounded so... great? Beautiful? Amazing?
Nonetheless, you loved his laugh.
"Yes, my wrists are okay."
You pursed your lips to suppress a smile.
"Anyways," you said, "who are the other top aces?"
Because you two were talking, your steps were a little slower and little. Both of you wants your moment to last longer, and neither knew this.
"Ushijima Wakatoshi. He's a third year from Shiratorizawa. We're acquainted."
"His name sounds serious."
"He actually is very serious. I've never seen him smile or laugh," he stated.
"Do you have a picture?"
His head faced you in a split second at what you just said. His brows are furrowed.
"Why?"
Not expecting that reaction, you looked at him confused.
"Oh, I'm curious, that's all."
He sighed. He was annoyed that you were showing interest in someone. The fact that that someone is more or less an equal to him in volleyball doesn't help.
"No, I don't have a picture of him."
Even if you wanted the conversation to last longer, his tone made you quiet.
You continued walking in silence. You felt that you were walking on eggshells and if there was even little crack, he'd snap at your loudness. Later on, you finally reached the gymnasium and it was rather quiet. You entered inside and you immediately felt like you're trespassing.
This is where players practice, probably full of passion and hope.
"Sakusa-kun, is it still early?" There were no student seen inside the facility.
"There's about 20 minutes until practice," he also looked around and was satisfied at the silence. He thought that maybe you and him will talk more.
Your mouth formed an 'o' at what he replied.
"Sakusa!"
And his hope was shattered.
"Great, the annoyingly loud one is the first person we see," he thought.
A lady wearing gym clothes walked towards them, she widened her eyes as she saw who's beside him.
"You're not his cousin," she said slowly. "Oh my, are you his girlfriend!?" She exclaimed, beaming with excitement.
It was your eyes' turn to go wide.
"No," you smiled after you got over your shock, "I am not."
"Unfortunately," both of you thought.
"Eh!? That's too bad!"
"This loudmouth is our coach," Sakusa said before she could embarrass both of them even more, "Kanami Cana."
"Ah," you said and offered your hand, "Minami Sakura, Sakusa's classmate."
"Aww! You two looked so cute together!"
You just smiled at her, partly embarrassed of what she said.
"Minami-san?"
Another voice spoke.
The looked behind the coach and saw another lady walking towards them.
"Sensei!" you called.
"My, I thought I heard you. Did you need something? Or were you planning on watching the practice?"
It was Rina Mira, the teacher adviser of the volleyball team.
"Oh, I heard you need a manager?"
"ARE YOU GOING TO BE OUR MANAGER?"
"Stop being so loud, coach. No one likes it."
You glanced at him and chuckled at his candor.
She was about to yell at him but you answered her.
"No, I am not. I do have a preposition though," you started, "I can't be the manager but I can help you find one. I was actually hoping for you, sensei, to write a note to allow me to print a lot of posters using the school's printer. I would also like to talk to you about the details for the managerial position so that I could brief whoever is willing and if there's a lot, kind of filter those applicants because there's a possibility that some will only be applying because of certain players."
The coach and the teacher's mouth were slightly opened because they were in awe. It was sudden, but you gave off a vibe where everything is going to be okay and so they trusted you on this. You looked like someone who handles stuff smoothly and efficiently.
"Of course!" Sensei exclaimed.
"I want you to be my daughter!" The coach exclaimed.
Sakusa smirked.
He was amazed, yes, but was not really surprised. He knew how good you are at being responsible and organized.
"Come, let's talk more," the sensei offered and the two walked away.
Before that, you waved at Sakusa and he waved back.
