I wore a maroon striped shirt with black shorts with my black converse. I nodded, looking down at my clothing,
I smiled running outside with Yelena, who wore a pink striped shirt and pink shorts, followed behind me. I ran up the wooden ladder then climbed up on the bars above the swings. Yelena gets on the swing and starts going back and forth.

She looks up at me and I make a face at her whilst shaking my head. She laughs making me smile, I hear a familiar whistle with the tone that goes low to high note. Yelena whistled back at high to low note as I continued the low to high note. I jumped off of the bars and landed correctly.

Nat walks closer to us and Yelena did a bridge starting from the ground. Nat ran over to us doing the same as I smiled at her bending backwards placing my hands firm on the ground looking at them. "We're all upside down." Yelena said looking at us making me smirk at them.

"And I bet you're gonna fall down first, Yelena." Natasha said making me laugh loudly. "No, you will." Yelena objected making me snicker looking at her. "You can't hold it much longer." I said teasingly looking at Yelena as she laughed and Nat chuckled.

Nat makes a noise with her mouth, sticking her tongue out towards Yelena, causing me to laugh loudly. Yelena lets go and falls to the ground with a grunt and I kick my leg up. I stood up straight, "Told you you'd fall down first." Nat said seeing the look on Yelena's face.

We laughed running away from Yelena, "I told yoooou!" I shouted running beside Nat, "I told yooooou!" Nat also shouts as we run around the wooden play-set. She kept chasing us as we laughed, "Told you so!" Nat said as we ran towards the pathway.

I hear a thud making my heart stop, "Mommy!" We quickly turned around as I breathed in shakily before I exhaled a breath of relief. We walked towards Yelena who was crying holding her knee and we try to comfort her.

"You're okay." I muttered towards her as I placed a kiss on her head. I heard a door close and footsteps walk towards us. I looked up to see our mama, who wore a white shirt with a unbuttoned shirt over it and light blue jeans. "What happened?" She asked us as she knelt down in front of us.

Yelena got out of our embrace and went with mama. "She fell on her knee." Natasha explained as she looked at us then down at Yelena. "Oh, you bump your knee?" Mama asked Yelena and we got up from our spots.

"Mmm-hmm." Yelena mumbles nodding, then I walked towards the wooden ladder and climbed up. "Oh..." I hear mama say softly and I looked back at them to make sure Yelena was fine.

"Kiss it better." Mama said placing a kiss on Yelena's knee and I sighed looking down then continued on, "There we go." She said wiping away Yelena's tears as she sniffed. "Oh, come on, little one." She said as I climbed up on the bars then secured my legs between the bars.

"Get up. You're okay." Mama said reassuring her as I leaned back and hung upside down from the bar. Nat laughs whilst swinging on the swing. "Come on. You're a brave girl." She said getting Yelena up as I smiled at them. "Your pain only makes you stronger." She said towards her making me swing in my spot.

"Right, you two?" She said smiling whilst placing her hand against the wooden post. "Yeah." Nat said swinging as I smiled nodding agreeing with her. "Rissa, be careful." I scoffed waving my hand as I grunted swinging my legs off and landing on the ground, stumbling back and falling on my butt.

Mom chuckled whilst Natasha and Yelena laughed. I laughed getting up and brushing off the dirt from my butt. "Look!" Yelena said pointing behind me excitedly as I turned around quickly, "Forest stars." She said in awe as I looked at the fireflies in the trees.

"Yeah. You know what?" Mama began as she nodded towards them, "Those are actually part of the Lampyridae family." Mama said walking as I admired them and walked behind them as Nat got off the swing.

I walked in front of mama as she caressed my head, "And the glow, the glow that you see, that comes from a chemical reaction called..." Mama said as we stopped in front of the fireflies. "Bioluminescence." She said quietly and leaned towards Yelena as I smiled up at the fireflies.

I bumped my shoulder against Natasha's, "Come on, time for dinner." Mama said tapping us and grabbing Yelena's hand, I smiled at Nat and she smiled at me. We continued to admire the fireflies, "Bio-goomin-feasants?" Yelena says messing up the long word as I nudged Nat.

"'Bio-goomin-feasants.' That's right." I hear faintly as I tapped, "Nat." I mumbled looking at her then at the fireflies. She hums and I continued, "I never want to leave this place." I said with my accent slipping out, "Me neither." Nat says agreeing with me.

"Dinner!" Mama shouts towards us as we glanced at each other, "Come on, dinner, big girls!" She shouted as it got dark and the fireflies grew brighter. We raced to the house and of course, I won. We took off our shoes leaving them outside and the walked in the house.

We walked through the living room towards the kitchen. "Grab the napkins." I hear mama say as I looked at them whilst walking up the steps. "You take this." Mama said handing a plate with corn on the cob to Yelena and she takes it. "Thank you." She said nodding towards Yelena.

"Oh, would you grab the ranch dressing for Dad?" Mama said grabbing the large bowl and a glass cup then walking away. I grabbed more napkins knowing that Yelena would make a mess with the corn.

"Green beans are my favorite vegetable." I hear Yelena say from the dining room as I grabbed another cup. I hear a door close, "Dad's home!" Mom shouts from the dining room and I see him walk up the stairs. "Hey, Dad." We said simultaneously as he smiled at us.

"Hey, baby." He said rubbing our heads and I swatted his hand away. "Daaad." I complained fixing my hair whilst walking towards my seat beside Nat. I placed the napkins on the table, "More napkins?" Mama questioned as I shrugged, "Yelena might make a mess." I said making Yelena gape at me.

"Nu-Uh!" She said eating the corn as I ate the chicken on my plate. "Everything okay?" Mom asked as I glanced at her and dad, seeing him by the window. He turns around looking at mom and I shrugged and continued to eat.

"How was everybody's day?" Dad asked us as I looked at Yelena, "Mommy taught me about lamp bugs." Yelena informed dad as she placed her corn down, he smiled at her. "Lamp bugs." He muttered as mom got serious as I glanced between them.

Mom got up from her seat to follow dad as he looked at us, "And I fell and hurt my knee, but it doesn't hurt anymore." Yelena said shaking her head as I kept eating.
"And we also saw fireflies in the backyard." Yelena said as she picked up her fork and continued to eat.

"That was my favorite part of the whole day." Yelena said nodding as I looked at Natasha. "Yelena, we see fireflies every year." I said shaking my head at her. "I know but you know I love fireflies." She said eating as I took a drink from my cup.

Dad comes back from behind the wall and sits down at his chair as Mom comes back. "Girls..." Dad said as I looked up at him as I ate the green beans. "You remember when I told you that one day we would have that big adventure?" He said smiling as I stopped and looked at him.

My heart stopped at the words that came out of his mouth, the ones I dreaded to hear. "Today's the day." He said smiling and nodding at us as I placed my fork down, instantly loosing my appetite. "Yay!" Yelena shouts excitedly making me look down at my plate.

Feeling mama's gaze on Nat and I but I didn't say a single word. "All right, let's go." Dad said slapping the table before getting up and leaving whilst Yelena followed after him. Nat and I looked up at Mom as she looked at us, "I'm sorry." She whispered towards us as she got up and left and I breathed in sharply, looking at Nat.

I hear bullets fall but chose to ignore it, "Come on, we gotta hurry." I hear mom shout as I got up and walked past the kitchen and out to the backyard. I grabbed my converse and handed Natasha's hers. We walked back in the house and I walked towards the familiar photo album.

I grab it, "No, leave it, leave it, leave it. Go wait in the car." Mama demanded, making me let go of it and grabbed Natasha's hand then rushed towards the car. We rushed in the car as Yelena sat to my left and Nat sat to my right, leaving me in the middle.

I put on my shoes and tied them whilst mom and dad get in the car. Dad pulls out of the driveway in a hurry and drives down the road. I look out the window, seeing our friends play with flashlights. "Where are we going?" Yelena says softly as I glanced at Nat and out the window.

"Home." Mom says as we passed by a bunch of trees. "Mommy, you're silly." Yelena says as I hear distinct sirens going off, "We just left home." She said shaking her head as I looked ahead of us. We drove towards the light but was blocked by police which made us do a u-turn.

We continued down the road and I spotted the familiar bridge with an American flag lit up. "I want my song." Yelena asked as I looked at her and dad pushed in the cassette. The music begins and Yelena sings along with it. "Bye, bye, Miss American Pie." I looked down at my hands already feeling the blisters in my feet.

"Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry." She said happily as we continued down the road and I hear whistling and cheering. "Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye." I look to see a high school football in progress and a marching band to the side.

"Singing, 'This'll be the day that I die'" Yelena waves her hand out from the corner of my eye as I looked at the three years of happy memories going down the drain. "'This'll be the day that I die'" She sang lowly as the song continued and I rubbed my eyes trying not to fall asleep.

We turned into a dirt road and the car shook as we went over the dirt, pebbles and rocks. Dad went down the road and turned seeing cornfields on each side of the road. Dad stepped on the gas trying to get to our destination and abruptly stopped. Mom and dad got out as dad opened the back and mom opened our door.

Nat climbed up to the front and pull down the visor grabbing the picture of the three of us. "Come on, Yelena." Mama said before continuing, "Hurry up, baby." Mom rushes Yelena out of the car as I nodded towards Nat. "Let's go. Come on, Nat, Rissa. Hurry up. We gotta go." She said waving us towards the plane and I jump off.

"We gotta go. Come on, you gotta run." Mom rushed us and I helped Yelena with the wheel stopper. "Nat, hurry up!" Mom shouted towards Nat and I looked to the side seeing dad holding the familiar gun. "I'm coming!" She shouts as I sat down and Nat sat across from me and beside Yelena.

"Okay. Seat belts." Mom said getting in and sitting down, gesturing towards the seatbelts and closed the door. "Okay." Mom muttered she turned on the plane. "Why isn't Dad in the plane?" Nat asked mom as the plane turned on and I sighed. "He's coming. He's coming, baby. He's coming." Mom reassured us as I glanced between them.

I turned around in my seat seeing dad flip the trailer up and out of the way. He turns to us and waves his hand, telling mom to go forward. I watch her steer the plane and hearing sirens approaching us. Mom steers to the left and dad takes off the gun from his body.

Mom then fully turned and went straight as I hear a gunshot and the car hit the huge tires, that were on the side. Mom pushes the yoke forward and I look to the side anxious. The plane moves a bit faster, seeing the car swerve to the right and disappear whilst dad runs to keep up with us.
