ʙʀʏɴɴᴇ [ʙ-ʀ-ɪʜ-ɴ] / ʀʏɴ [ᴘʀᴏɴᴏᴜɴᴄᴇᴅ: ʀ-ɪʜ-ɴ ᴏʀ ʀᴇɪɢɴ]

Not feeling welcomed into the conversation Brynne stayed away from the conversation being had in Magnus's apartment. Clary, Jace, Magnus, and Luke were in the living room talking about Clary knowing where the Cup is. Jocelyn was smart and had disguised the Mortal Cup into tarot cards she painted to hide inside the Ace of Cups. Luke was able to answer the group to where the tarot cards were, Luke had them in his desk drawer back at the precinct. The trouble would be getting to the desk as Valentine has spies everywhere in the NYPD.

Clary and Jace went to the precinct with Luke who told them to stay outside not wanting to draw any attention. Luke was able to make it to his desk and touch the tarot cards only to be stopped by Internal Affairs who asked for his badge and gun. From outside the precinct, Clary and Jace were able to see Luke being escorted by two mundanes. Meaning it was time for Clary and Jace to give it their shot.

Jace and Clary both went into Luke's interrogation room to find answers, but of course, first, they made sure to use a rune for invisibility. Luke was a prime suspect in a murder investigation and he gave them the advice to assume that everyone has the Sight. In a storage room, the two Shadowhunters deglamorized themselves and went to the office with Clary's plan.

It involved Clary slapping Jace in a room full of cops, making it seem that Clary was trying to get away from her cheating ex. Clary walks away from Jace and he tries to follow the redhead only for cops to stop him allowing for Clary to reach Luke's desk. While she is looking through Luke's desk she finds out that IA took everything to a vault upstairs, so she leaves the precinct along with Jace.  

"You know what? I'm gonna bring Alec with me next time. I don't think he's ever slapped me in the face" Jace says as the two exit the precinct doors towards Isabelle and Alec who they had called

"I'm sorry, I panicked," Clary says with a sigh 

"Someone called for backup?" Isabelle greets the duo

"Yeah. What took you guys so long?" Jace asks the duo sounding annoyed

"Funny, I was gonna ask you the same thing" Alec quickly directs at Jace

"It's complicated," Jace says but doesn't elaborate as Clary shares the news, "We found the Cup"

"The Cup?" Isabelle stresses not knowing If Clary was messing with them or not

"Yeah, but then we lost it. We have to sneak back in the precinct to get it" Clary informs the team

"This is a disaster," Alec says making Jace look up at him

"Hey, demon pox is a disaster. This is an inconvenience. We just need a plan. That's all"

"What about a glamour?" Isabelle suggests not knowing what plans they had gone through that didn't succeed

"We tried that. Anyone working with Valentine will see right through it" Jace shares making everyone start thinking about a way to get past demons that could see they were Shadowhunters

"Can we ask Magnus Bane to portal us inside?" Clary asks not knowing the limits that magic had, as to her portals could take one anywhere

"No" Alec quickly says

"That'd be awkward." Isabelle says looking sideways at the ground and then looks up at her brother with a gasp only to explain to Clary what they both meant, "Magnus can only portal us to places he's been to before"

Clary's phone starts to ring making her look at the caller ID before silencing the call letting it go to voicemail. Clary looks up from her phone with a new idea that stayed on the topic of portals, "Ryn's been inside the precinct before, to visit Luke with me"

"She can get us inside," Jace says with a nod knowing where the redhead was going with her idea 

"I don't know how to contact her," Clary says as she didn't have the girl's number or at least didn't know if Brynne had a new number. Clary's phone rings making her check and sees that Simon was calling her once again. For a split second, Clary believed that Brynne would be on the other end of the call yet since it wasn't she sighs, "Not again. Just give me a second"

Alec gets the idea to call Magnus so he can pass the phone to Brynne as they were living together. He could send out a fire message but a phone call seemed like the better way to not draw attention to themselves from wandering eyes. Taking out his phone from his front pocket Alec steps aside but was stopped by his sister, "Where are you going?"

"I need to make a phone call," Alec says before moving past her and taking a few steps away from the group to make a call and when they answer he doesn't wait for formalities, "Magnus hi, can you put Ryn on the phone?"

"Alec so nice to hear from you, just one moment," Magnus says not asking questions as he knew he could later get the information out of Brynne

Brynne was halfway done packing her room as she was doing everything without using magic, it was giving her time to process and say goodbye to her old identity. Magnus enters the room and tells her about someone being on the phone for her. Skeptically Brynne takes the phone from Magnus and puts it against her ear without looking at who was calling, "Hello?"

"Ryn, it's Alec"

Not expecting Alec on the other end of the call she looks at the door but Magnus wasn't there anymore making her answer, "Um hi uh, do you need something?"

"Clary believes that the cup is being stored at a police station in Luke's office and she can't get into the office. Would you be able to?" Alec asks as he looks back at the Shadowhunters only to see that Clary was still on the phone and Jace and Isabelle were looking at both

"Yeah, I can get you all into that office. I'll be there soon, just look out for me" Brynne says looking around at the boxes wondering what she was going to wear when she hangs up the call she uses her magic to find the best practical outfit for a secret mission in a public space
Brynne portals her way to the side of the precinct where she knew there were minimal cameras.

Then the warlock dressed from head to toe in dark-colored clothing makes her way towards the front of the precinct where she sees the Shadowhunters, "You guys ready?"

Alec had informed the group about having called Brynne who was ready to help them in getting the cup, "We have a plan"

"What do you need me to do?" Brynne asks knowing that once she had cast the protection spell on herself she wouldn't look like a crazy person talking to nobody outside a police station

"Get us upstairs to the vault and hide us from any demons." Jace shares having come up with a plan and already explained it to the Lightwoods while Clary was on the phone with Simon, "Alec and Izzy will signal us when it's time to grab the Cup"

With everyone knowing their part in the plan they make their way inside the precinct, Alec and Izzy walked over to a different part of the precinct no longer being glamoured. While Jace, Clary, and Brynne walked towards the elevators when the doors opened and one of the wolves in Luke's pack was standing there looking down at the file in his hand. Brynne undoes her protection spell while Jace and Clary move to hide knowing he would be able to see them and sense them.

Brynne takes out her phone and pretends to be using it so when Alaric looks up from his file he sees the warlock. It not being the first time he meets the warlock he says her name, "Brynne. What are you doing here?"

Looking up from her phone Brynne smiles, "Alaric, hey. I'm here looking for Luke, tried to call him but he didn't answer"

"Is everything alright?" Alaric says stepping out of the elevator making Brynne move to her side and extend her foot out to stop the elevator doors from closing

"Yeah just came to say goodbye. I'm leaving and this seems like the best place to spring the news to him. Which is what I should go do" Brynne says trying to be friendly as possible while also waiting for him to leave

"Goodbye Ryn," Alaric says with a smile knowing he needed work to do

"Bye," Brynne says with a smile and once Alaric turns around to leave she lets her smile fall, "He's gone"

Jace and Clary move out of their place from where they were hiding as they watch Alaric walk away making Clary say, "He's on our side"

"You sure? Isn't that the line he used when he kidnapped you?" Jace asks the redhead making her realize he was right

"He was following orders" Brynne defends making the Shadow hunters turn to look at her as she was in the elevator, "Now with Luke as the Alpha Alaric is on your side"

"Alaric" Clary says entering the elevator "Didn't know the two of you were on first name bases"

"Yup," Brynne responds not elaborating more on the fact that she knows Alaric just as Jace hits the emergency stop button on the elevator allowing them to be in the elevator without interruptions

"And you're leaving New York?" Clary asks not knowing to like that she and Brynne wouldn't be in the same place soon

"Yeah," Brynne says knowing it wasn't the right time to talk about it so she turns to look at Jace, "So this plan of yours, you ready?"

"Clary needs the Nyx rune. It's like night vision" Jace says as he turns to Clary pulling down his shirt to show her the rune under his collarbone "You can copy mine. You got it?"

Clary eyes the rune knowing what to draw on herself, "Yeah"

Clary drops her bag off her shoulder and onto the floor before taking off her jacket and pulling out her stele. With a sigh, Clary looks at her hands before deciding to burn the rune into her shoulder, but since she couldn't draw on her shoulder she asks Jace for help, leaving Brynne to uncomfortably watch the two Shadowhunters. When Jace is finished drawing the Nyx rune on Clary she looks back to her shoulder wanting to see the burned skin her fingers were feeling.

"I think you messed something up," Clary says not having any night vision

"Really? No, I didn't" Jace says glancing up at the elevator ceiling lights waiting for them to turn off

"Then why isn't it working?" Clary asks walking over to him

"It is" Jace responds with certainty just then the lights turn off and the precincts alarm starts to blare "That's the signal"

"Woah," Clary says as she was able to see Jace in the dark all thanks to the rune

Brynne coughs not knowing what she was doing in the elevator with the Shadowhunters. Jace and Clary turn to the warlock only for them to be taken back by the electricity running up and down her body that the night vision was focusing on, "You both ready to steal something?"

The Shadowhunters hold on to Brynne's arms while she makes the portal appear in front of them. When the warlock had met Luke she made sure to do a tour of where he worked, a tour that allowed for her to explore places of the precinct that wasn't open to the public. The three walk into the portal and step out into a dark room with black steel storage shelves making Clary take out a witchlight.

Looking around the shelves containing various amounts of boxes Jace asks "What is all this crap? Lunch receipts?"

No one answers his questions as the door opens making a cop walk in shining its flashlight down a row before walking towards the one they were standing in only for him to walk right by them.

"You're getting pretty good with your stele" Jace softly tells Clary who stood across from him

"Well, at least we know he's not a Downworlder," Clary says looking over at Jace keeping her voice down as well knowing that while they can't be seen they could still be heard

"Lucky us" Jace replies making Brynne roll her eyes

"You both ready to find this cup or what?" Brynne says speaking up in a louder voice and the two before walking past them knowing the row they stood in Luke's stuff wasn't being held. They walk down various rows shining a light on boxes reading the label until Clary finds the one with Luke's name.

"Found it," Clary says picking up the box and walking over to a table where she can open the box. Inside the first thing, Clary pulls out is a framed photo of Luke, Jocelyn, and Clary making the redhead take a few seconds looking down at the photo before placing it to the side. Rummaging through the box Clary finds another framed photo only this time it was of her mother and a young Clary.

"This will take all day," Jace says noticing how Clary had stopped to look down at the photo. Brynne walks around the table allowing for her to place her hands over the open box and cast a spell, "That's one way to do it"

When she moves her hands Clary was able to see that there was a faint glowing coming from the box, and reaching for it she pulls out the stack of tarot cards. The orange glow around the cards fades away making Clary drop each card that didn't have a drawn image of a cup back into the box.

"That looks exactly like the Mortal Cup," Jace says looking at the card as he stands next to Clary

"This is it. It has to be" Clary says with a smile but it quickly falls when she touches the card trying to reach into it but nothing happens

"What's wrong," Brynne asks not knowing what Clary was doing by touching the card like it was a touchscreen not processing her touch

"I-i'm not sure. I..." Clary stammers as she tries to reach into the card for the cup once more

"You're not sure what's wrong or you're not sure where your mom hid the Cup?" Jace asks making Clary glance over at him and then back at the card as she flips it.

Not knowing what else could be done at that moment the three make their way back outside with the tarot card in Clary's bag. The precinct lights were still off and outside night had fallen making the cops turn on their car lights.

Jace and Brynne calmly walk out of the precinct while Clary jogs over to Isabelle and Alec.

"Did you get it?" Alec looks at Clary and then over to Jace

"Theoretically" Clary quickly says as she looks around the area to see lined-up cop cars surrounding the area.

"Theoretically?" Alec asks not knowing what she meant by that

"Yeah. I found the card. I just have to figure out how I reached into my notebook before. It's... It's not an exact science" Clary says now knowing how she can get an object out of a paper but knows she can as when she was with Luke she was able to put something into a paper.

"Can't you just pull the Cup out?" Alec asks seeing the whole unsanctioned mission as a fail

"I can, theoretically. I just... It's not as easy as it looks, Alec" Clary quickly responds not enjoying his judgment

"Listen, you two can discuss theory as much as you want when we get back to the Institute. But right now, considering we just stole from the cops, I suggest we get home" Jace says making Brynne glance around as she feels eyes on them

"Guys..." Isabelle speaks up when she feels her necklace start to pulse, "I think the mundanes might be the least of our worries"

"At least we know the demon necklace works," Alec says as they take a look at Isabelle's necklace seeing it pulse every other second a red glow

"Never a dull day. Let's go" Jace says speaking toward everyone making Brynne follow the Showhunters not knowing what she was doing there at the moment but since they weren't asking for any help she followed

"Guys, slow down," Clary says as she tries to quickly follow behind Shadowhunters and warlock who were quickly walking away from the scene. It is the first time Clary walks away from a crime scene she glances around while walking a few feet behind only for her to bump into an old lady, "Oh, I am so sorry"

The old lady dropped her bag making Clary kneel down to pick it up as Clary reaches for the bag the lady's mouth becomes one of a shapeshifting demon. Hearing the growl leaving the demon's mouth Brynne turns around and quickly turns the old lady around before pushing her towards the Shadowhunters. Jace having heard the demon had turned around and having seen Brynne move the demon from Clary, takes his seraph blade, and kills the shapeshifter making her go up in flames.

Seeing Jace kill the old lady Clary stands up saying, "What the hell?"

"Language. Not in front of grandma" Jace says as Isabelle and Alec make their way back towards the group with Isabelle's necklace still glowing

"How did it find us?" Alec asks looking straight at Clary

"Shouldn't have brought a Downworlder into this fight," Brynne says knowing that demons are able to detect the presence of another demon or Downworlder but can't tell the difference between mundanes and Shadowhunter's. Brynne looks around only to see various cop faces that seemed to be looking directly at them "...she brought friends"

"How can you tell?" Clary asks looking at where everyone was looking which was at a cop walking out of her patrol car

Everyone starts walking away from the precinct making Jace answer Clary's question, "It's like seeing through a glamour. You just gotta pay attention to the details"

"But I can't see anything," Clary says walking as quickly as she can to catch up to everyone's long strides while also glancing back wondering what she had missed

"Behind us," Isabelle says not once glancing back, keeping her eyes right where they were intending to go

"I... I still can't see them," Clary says looking back just as more policemen with lit-up eyes appear in front of them making them all stop from taking another step "Okay, there's too many people"

"I don't say this often, but I agree with Clary. We gotta get out of here" Alec says keeping his eyes on the beat cops with glowing eyes

"Hey, this way!" Clary exclaims leading the Shadowhunters and warlock down a bunch of stairs and stops in front of a door labeled 'Electrical Room' making the redhead turn to look at Jace with her stele in
