It was supposed to be a fun night, one of the last ones before tying the knot. His friends set up a great party just for him, to celebrate, but Randy was having no fun.
Celebrate... Celebrate what?
That he messed up everything and now was stuck in a relationship which did not made him happy at all?
Of course he did love Kim, otherwise he wouldn't have asked her to marry him... but she was not Sylwia. What was he supposed to do right now?
He already screwed up everything with the Polish girl, should he risk it all to go back to her? Or should he play it safe and stay with Kim? He would've broken her heart too, and that was the last thing he needed, to be responsible for another heartbreak.
His friends, the ones who did not know personally the blonde bombshell, kept telling him that it was better that way, that Kim was better for him, better than a twenty something years old girl who was probably too focused on her career right now to be a wife... If they only knew her how much he did.
Kim was more mature, more family oriented, and made him happy. Sylwia was young, ambitious, and made him happier.
Somewhat they always assumed you knew nothing when young.
"What's with that grudge?" Cody couldn't help but ask to his best friend, sitting by the counter right next to him. "This should be your party, but you're here all alone drinking... what's that? Tequila?"
"Polish vodka." The tattooed man replied, taking down another shot. "This party sucks." He spoke again, gesturing to the bartender to fill his glass again and one another for his friend. "Whoever set this up... Don't let him do it ever again."
At his words, Cody chuckled, bringing his glass to his lips and drinking it. "It's not that bad and you're lucky it wasn't me who planned this. I would have been offended."
"You would have survived the same." Randy chuckled. "I'm getting married. Again." It was like he was thinking out loud, a monologue in front of another shot of vodka and a good friend near. Saying those words out loud made Randy understood that it was all real.
"Try to contain your enthusiasm." Cody sarcastically commented. "Randy, from friend to friend, you're looking miserable. So just say what's really going on." And being a close friend, Dusty Rhodes's youngest kid already knew what was going on in Randy's mind and heart. And he knew that he was thinking anyone or anything but Kim or his upcoming wedding.
Cody simply knew Randy was thinking of her.
"You know it."
"Just admit it, Randy."
"I am getting married to another woman, but all I think about is her." Randy finally admitted.
Cody nodded, laying a hand on his friend's shoulder. "Randy..." He did not even have to complete his sentence that the taller man abruptly got up, almost tripping.
He drank a lot that night, intoxicated not only by the alcohol they poured on his drink, but mostly by the absence of the only one woman who could ever love that much.
Then why did he acted that way? He clearly was not thinking at all. How could he be that stupid?
"What are you doing now?" Cody couldn't help but ask, worried about his friend's possible actions. He was such an unpredictable man. "This is your party!"
"Screw this fucking party!" There was alteration in Randy's voice, but luckily the music was too loud to catch people attention. "Tell everyone I say thank you but I'm leaving." He couldn't stand being anymore there, celebrating one of his biggest mistakes; he just couldn't.
In response, Cody nodded, aware that none could make his friend change his mind, especially when it came to a certain girl. "You do what makes you happy, I just hope you don't regret it."
"I'm regretting everything I've done." The Apex Predator said, his voice now almost a whisper. "Thanks Cody, you're a friend."
"I know." The younger man chuckled. "Go now, I'll deal with these ones."
Randy didn't have to let his say twice, he grabbed all his things and rushed to his car. He didn't care how many speeding tickets he got, he only cared about getting to Sylwia as quickly as possible.
But she wasn't there.
The lights in the house were all off and her BMW was not in its usual place, she was surely out. But Randy wouldn't leave without talking to her, even if he had to wait all night or maybe longer outside the girl's house.
He sat on the steps, right outside her door, and waited. It was midnight. He began counting the minutes, hoping to see her arrive as soon as possible. At training that afternoon, she had heard Maryse inviting the girl to a well-known club in the city, perhaps she had accepted her invitation, or perhaps she was still at the center training; he wouldn't have been surprised by either hypothesis.
It was two and half in the morning when he spotted her car entering the property, and she getting out. From her looks, he deduced he was out with Maryse. Sylwia did not spot him at her doorstep, until she was face to face with him, leaving her stuck from where she was.
Randy got up, weakly smiling at her, but she did not return the smile. Instead, after few seconds of being almost paralysed, Sylwia simply ignored him and went to open her door.
As she was about to close it, right at his face, he stopped her, by putting a foot to not let her close the door. "Sylwia..." He said, but she just kicked his foot away, not even caring if being too rude. "Tell me how to stay away from you..."
At his words, the blonde rolled her eyes. "Maybe with a restraining order?" She couldn't help but comment, making him also chuckle. She was fun without even trying. "Do you want me to call the police right now?"
"I just want to talk." Randy composed himself, leaning against her doorframe. "Please Sylwia..."
"Just shut up, will you?" Already exhausted, the girl rubbed her temples, as if to find the strength to deal with the situation. It was late, and the last thing she wanted right now was to argue for the umpteenth time with the man who had broken her heart. "What do you want, Randy? I honestly can't be bothered to deal with your shit anymore."
Taking a deep breath, Randy took a step ahead and, catching her by surprise, hugged her tightly, as to not let her go. But she stayed still, not returning the hug, to let him understand that she was not in that game anymore.
"I fucked up everything." He said, not wanting to let go of his grip around her. "I am sorry."
Being so close with him, Sylwia could smell alcohol on him. He had been drinking, or he wouldn't be such a man to finally admit that he fucked up big time; yet, that made the girl even more mad. "And do you need who knows how many shots to come to me?" She asked, pushing him away and closing the door at their shoulders. "That's so fucking pathetic!"
"Do you think I don't know?" Randy snapped back, rubbing his temples and leaning against the wall behind him. "Why did I fuck up? Because in the end I'll always know I'd come back to you... Sylwia..." He tried to hold her hands, but she pushed him away.
In her blue eyes he couldn't read what she was feeling in that moment, standing in front of him, and that scared him a lot. Why couldn't he read her anymore? Did he truly lost her?
"What do you think I am? An old cardigan under your bed you find every now and then, claiming it to be your favourite?" The blonde girl spatted, shaking her head, letting a little laugh escape her lips. "I'm serious, Randy, it had always been so easy for you to choose another woman over me, so why still playing this hide-and-seek? I kinda knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired. You chase two girls, but lost the one, and let me tell you that with three of us is a sideshow, and a circus ain't a love story I want to be in. You wanted it all, Randy, so do not come at me late at night hoping for me to fall into your arms at the first sweet words hoping to find me waiting for you with open arms. Do not expect for anything at all from me, you lost that privilege."
"Tell me it is over then." Towering her, Randy cupped her chin into his hand, almost forcing her to look straight into her eyes. "Tell me it is, Sylwia. Or tell me it's not over and I'll finally call it quits for this stupid wedding with Kim, but do it while looking at me in the eyes." His voice was almost a whisper now. "Tell me I'm making the worse decision of my life, please. Give me a reason."
"If you really loved me that was the only reason you needed." The girl replied, her voice low and calm. She was tired of yelling too, it wouldn't have changed anything either way. "I do think you loved me, Randy, just not enough, and surely not the way I deserve. Me telling now that is not over would be only me walking over my self respect, my dignity, and I don't want to do that ever again."
"I loved you more than I've ever loved anyone else, myself included." The man spoke. "And I still do. I just do not know how to keep anything good in my life without ruining it. I still love you, Sylwia. Fuck it, I even had my mother's ring to give to you!"
The ring she found on his bag... It was for her then... That admission only broke her heart even more.
"Me telling you that is not over would be totally useless now. You already made your decision. You already chose her over me." Sylwia forced herself to smile, to fake a brave facade as she cupped his face in her hands. "You may love me more, as you say, but, trust me Randy, that's for the best. Maybe Kim is really the right woman for you, while I'm still just a girl."
"My girl." He corrected her. "You'll always be my girl." And before the Polish girl could respond, Randy surrounded her hips, bringing her closer to him, and couldn't resist the temptation to kiss her. He didn't care about Kim, he didn't care about the wedding, he didn't care about anything except the young woman who was kissing him back.
But it didn't take long before she could push him away, laying her forehead on his. "Don't."
"At least one last time..." Randy almost begged her. "Please."
Sylwia shook her head. "Let's not do this to ourselves." She said. "I'm doing this for you too, because Randy I love you, but I've already let you go."
At her words, the man hugged her and hid his face into the curve of her neck. For the first time since she met him, Sylwia heard him sob, causing her to rub a hand on his back, biting her lip to not cry to. She had to be the strongest person now, for her, for him and for them.
"Come here." Grabbing his hand, the blonde girl from Poland led him towards her couch.
The man did not resist, he let the girl sit him down and, again, he held her close to him, amid sobs of remorse and bad choices. And Sylwia let him do it, let him vent, while with her hand caressing his back she tried to reassure him.
Never in her life, she would have imagined that big man of Randy Orton to be crying in front of her, and because of her.
He kept repeating that he fucked up everything, she let him, he told he loved her, and she wanted that to be true; but she just couldn't forget or forgive that he still was about to marry another one. Was she that stupid or he that masochistic as to do something like that?
How could he say he loved her more than anything but asked another woman to be with him for the rest of his life? Was marriage really that banal for him?
He and his fucking mind were so twisted.
Eventually, the man later fell asleep, it was almost six in the morning. Sylwia sighed. He couldn't stay there, that was for the best. Grabbing his phone and unlocking it -she was surprised that he did not change his password, which was still her birthday date- and typed Cody's number.
The phone rang a couple of times before the man could answer.
"Randy?"
"Try again."
"Sylwia?"
There was clearly surprise in his voice, as he did not expect her to call him. Cody cleared his throat, looking at the time. "Uhm, good morning?"
"Yeah, yeah, dzieล dobry." The blonde girl rolled her eyes, knowing he couldn't see her. "Listen, I know it's a very unusual time to call someone, especially calling you... But your best friend fell asleep on my couch; so before any of us could get into troubles... Can you please help me?"
There was silence on the other side of the phone for a while. "Okay, send me your address. I'm coming over."
"Yeah, come with an Uber." Sylwia rubbed her temples. "Your stupid friend came over with his car."
She heard Cody cursing at Randy under his breath. "Sure. Be there in twenty, wait for me."
"It's not like I'm going away from my house." Sylwia sarcastically commented as the phone call ended. Looking down at Randy, she took a deep breath. "Co za gลupi idiota." She couldn't help but comment, caressing his cheek, being careful to not wake him up.
He was sleeping so peacefully. Maybe it was because of the alcohol, or maybe it was her being close with him, but the man hadn't slept that well in such a long time.
About half an hour later, Cody knocked at her door. Sylwia managed to move away Randy from her without getting up, and hurried to open her door. "Thanks for coming over." She said. "You're a good friend to Randy."
Cody and Sylwia, on the other hand, couldn't be considered friends, they barely spoke to each other, and the Polish girl was confident enough to say that Cody didn't like her. The truth was that Cody didn't like the effect she had on his best friend, nothing personal, he didn't even know her that well, even though they worked together. However, he had to give her credit for not letting Randy make the situation even worse; she could only imagine how much willpower the girl had to have.
"You're good for him too." The dark haired boy nodded, a hint of smile on his face.
"Perhaps too good." Sylwia murmured under her breath, for the clearing her throat. "Nothing happened, by the way." She felt like specifying it. "He just... let it all go."
At her words, Cody nodded. "So I guess you guys are over..."
"That would be for the best." The Polish girl said, for then putting aside to let the man enter. "He's all yours now."
Cody stepped in, rightly going towards his friend. Gently, the man woke up Randy, who had yet to fully regain consciousness. Cody put Randy's arm on his shoulders and helped him up. Sylwia waited by the door, her blue eyes fixed on both men.
When they also approached the door to leave, Cody smiled slightly at the girl, wishing her a good day and thanking her, she did the same. Randy, however, looked at her intently and told her in a low voice that he loved her, she only nodded.
Once the two men left, the girl closed the door behind her and sank down, her face hidden in her hands. This time it was her letting it all go, alone, like she always did.
And like she always did, she composed herself, collecting all her pieces.
Somedays later he went to marry with Kim in Las Vegas, while she went to perform on a live show in California.

Florida, February 2024
"Randy!" That was the first thing the man heard after opening his house's door for Sylwia and Rafaล. The little boy literally jumped on Randy's arm, who, luckily, grabbed him by reflex.
It had become a habit for Sylwia and Randy to spend their free days at one or the other's house, with their respective children who bonded more and more -and with Rafaล who began to understand and repeat a few more sentences in English-.
A genuine real family. That was what they were finally building together.
However, that thing about always moving to be together, well Randy couldn't tolerate it anymore. He wanted to spend every single second with Sylwia, with Rafaล.
And while he and the woman watched, sitting on the porch, their children play, smoking cigarettes and drinking a bit of strictly Polish vodka, Randy placed a cardigan on the blonde's shoulders, to cover her from the not so cold of early February in Florida.
"It's my favourite." He said, causing the Polish woman to narrow her eyebrows and smell that red cardigan.
"Luckily it doesn't stink, but thank you the same. Even though it's kinda hot here..." She replied impressed, lighting up another cigarette and offering one to the man, who gladly accepted.
"You do share house with your sister and her family, don't you?" Randy asked after some minutes of silence.
Sylwia took off her sunglasses and looked at him. "Yeah!" She tried her best impression of LA Knight, causing both of them to laugh. "Why?"
"Well..." Moving his chair closer to her, Randy grabbed her free hand and held it tightly, his blue eyes locked on hers of a slightly lighter shade of blue. "I was thinking that, based on the fact that we're always together, that we are a couple, maybe it would have been a good idea if you and Rafaล moved in here. You know, to have our privacy also, to be a real family. Here, for you." He took a bunch of keys out of his jeans pocket, complete with a key ring with the Polish flag -he knew he would have made her happy with that-, and handed it to her. "I'd love to be your home, Sylwia Wodiczko. So, what do you say?"
Grabbing the keys and immediately putting into her bag, Sylwia let out the smoke from her lips. "I'm saying that the walk-in closet probably needs to be expanded, and that you have quite a few suitcases to help me carry." She smirked, letting go of his hand to grab his face and peck his lips. "Although one last thing is missing to truly be a family. I do have a beautiful hand, don't you think?"
Knowing exactly what she was hinting, Randy bursted out laughters, grabbing again her hand and kissing it. "I will, don't you worry. Everything at the right time."
Sylwia nodded. "Cool."
Holding hands and watching the twilight together, in what was now their house... Randy couldn't ask for anything better.
No matter what, life always brought him back to her, because he was more than sure that they were destined, meant to be.
And what was meant to be always come back. That was simply destiny.
