And with that, I put on a white jacket of my own and grabbed a bow. Mi-jin did the same while Ha-ri gave me an arrow and started to teach us how to shoot.
~~~ 9 ~~~
Ha-ri first showed Mi-jin how to hold the bow. I already knew how, so all I needed to do was aim.
I shot the arrow in my bow at the target. It hits the edge of the target.
I looked over to Mi-jin and Ha-ri, disappointed.
"Here. Keep your chin up and your elbow back. Like this." Ha-ri demonstrated to Mi-jin with her arms.
I chuckled at them to myself as I walked over to where Gwi-nam was sitting.
"Well, now we know that if we ever have to rely on your shooting abilities, we'll be fucked," Gwi-nam laughed.
"You go try."
"Nah, I already know I can't."
"Then shut up. At least I'm trying. You've been nothing but rude to all of them," I scolded.
He scoffed. "I'm a high school bully. What the hell do you want from me?"
"I want you to treat them like you treat me."
He raised his hand to his face and rested his head in the palm of his hand. "I can't do that."
"Why not?" I said a little too loudly.
I drew in the rest of the group's attention by accident, and Gwi-nam stopped talking. He nervously looked around the room, but he wouldn't make eye contact with me.
I put my hand on my hip and scoffed.
I walked away and back to Mi-jin and Ha-ri.
"Sorry about that. He's being stubborn," I told them.
"We can tell," Mi-jin responded.
"It's alright. Everyone has their days." Ha-ri paused, as if debating something. She then sighed and looked at me. "I'm sorry, but... I can't trust him." Ha-ri looked at Gwi-nam, and then back to me.
Mi-jin lowered her bow and arrow and looked at us, confused and sympathetically. "We're... kicking them out? You can't do that, Ha-ri! She's my friend, and if she trusts the mullet kid, then I trust him too."
Ha-ri shook her head.
"It's okay, Mi-jin," I started. "How about this. Gwi-nam and I will sleep in the weight room until we find a better spot. We can cross that bridge when we get there, and if he tries anything to harm any of you, I will personally kill him myself. I know how you must feel, Ha-ri." I sighed. "I will watch him."
Ha-ri thought for a moment. "Okay, fine. But if he-" Mi-jin cuts her off.
"She gets it, Ha-ri! But thank you for working something out..." she said.
I nodded and left them to continue training.
Ha-ri glared at me, and then shifted her gaze to Gwi-nam.
I walked over to Jun-seong. "Please tell me you don't want to kick us out already too," I laughed.
He looked up. "Hm? Why do they want to kick you out already?"
"Gwi-nam is being difficult and unnecessarily rude to you all. He doesn't trust you guys."
"Oh, I see. It's fine with me if he stays, it's better than out there."
I scoffed. "Yeah, you're right."
"Come, sit," he said.
I sat down next to him. We talked for twenty to thirty minutes before I was called over by Min-jae.
"You wanted to learn how to shoot, right?" he asked.
"Yeah, but I suck. I'll just slow you down carrying all of that stuff," I replied.
"Who said it would be easy?" He smiled at me.
God, he's so tall.
We walked over to the target lanes again. He handed me a bow and began trying to teach me how to shoot.
Every time I looked over my shoulder at Gwi-nam, I could tell that he was glaring at us.
Why does he have to hate them so much??
No matter how hard Min-jae tried to teach me, its like my brain just wouldn't learn.
"I'm sorry, Min-jae," I told him.
He replied, "No, it's alright. Not everyone shines at this. I'm sure you're good at other things."
"I'm pretty good with a knife. I could show you."
He paused, confused. "You mean you want to go out there for the sake of showing me how good you are?"
Instead of responding, I simply untucked my knife from my skirt and threw the knife at the target. It landed right in the middle.
"God damn!" I heard Mi-jin exclaim as she and Ha-ri came over to Min-jae and I. "That was so hot. Let me try!"
Ha-ri shot Mi-jin a sharp look. "Take this seriously."
Mi-jin looked up at Ha-ri disappointedly.
"That was really good. I'm impressed," Min-jae added.
"Yeah. I have to say, that was cool," Ha-ri said. Even she complemented me.
I walked down the target lane and retrieved my knife. When I walked back over, I could overhear the other three of them talking.
"Do you want them to stay?" Ha-ri asked.
"Yeah. I like that girl, she's fierce," Min-jae said.
Mi-jin gave him a judgmental look and said, "Her name's y/n. Not 'that girl.'"
"Sorry." He kind of bowed his head down in respect. He must be the youngest. Maybe a freshman or a sophomore.
I got back to the group.
"I'm sorry, I overheard your conversation. Ha-ri, I understand that you don't trist Gwi-nam yet, but please don't jump to conclusions. I have him under control."
Ha-ri looked down. "Sorry."
"It's alright, but please let me handle it. I'm sure your group would agree," I responded.
Both Mi-jin and Min-jae nodded. Finally, Ha-ri said, "Alright. I accept you two."
"Thank you," I replied.
Just before I was about to walk off, Mi-jin stopped me. "Can I talk to you?"
"Yeah, sure," I said.
She let out a breath of relief.
"Got something on your mind?"
"Actually, I do. Let's go to the weight room."
I was confused, but I agreed.
We walked into the weight room together. I closed the door behind us and we went to sit on the benches.
"I have a question," she told me.
"What is it? Ask away."
"Ahhh, I can't... Let's talk about something else, then I'll ask.."
"Oh, okay."
We started talking about all of the drama and events of our lives since we last talked. An hour or two must've passed. We were giggling like little schoolgirls for a while.
Mi-jin then got all serious. "I wanted to ask you if you... like girls."
I was taken aback by her question.
Where was this going??
Still, I answered her question honestly, "Yeah, I'm pansexual. Why, though?"
Mi-jin responded, panically, "Well, I kiiind of liked you back in middle school, and it's awkward because I don't know how to handle this."
I looked at the floor. "Really? You aren't messing with me?"
"No, I wouldn't joke about this."
"Yeah you would. Don't lie," I playfully responded.
"Okay, fine. I would, but I'm not. I swear."
I paused and inhaled a deep breath.
"I..."
