I pushed my hair behind my ear and smiled back, locking eyes with his for a second. I quickly looked away and back out into the cafeteria. "Do you think we could make a run for the stairs?"
"I don't know, let's find out."

I walked over towards the gate once more, and picked up my backpack off of the floor. At this point, there were many new zombies flooding the gate. A few were also trying to get in through the window, however the kitchen was slightly more elevated, so at most, you could see a forearm. None could get in.
It was safe.
I grabbed my knife and started to kill the new generation of the zombies at the gate. Gwi-nam followed behind me, and did the same.
Most of the old zombie bodies had been kicked away by the new ones.
I broke the silence and started a conversation with Gwi-nam. "You think there are any hidden survivors in the lunch room?"
"Probably. Wanna check? For your friends, of course."
I nodded.
Suddenly, an idea came to my head. "Hey, let's play the radio on full volume near the window. The zombies can't get in, so it wont be a problem when they all go to the window."
"That's.. actually really smart." He set his knife down and walked over towards the radio. He unplugged it, then moved it to the window. He put the radio just barely out of reach from the zombies below, and plugged it back into the wall to the right of the window.
(A/n - To paint a good picture, the window is a big wide open window on the right side of the kitchen. The kitchen is wide, and the gate is on the far left side of the room. All of this is on one wall. :))
Gwi-nam changed the station to some loud rock music, then turned the volume up. We waited for about 30 seconds for all of the zombies in the lunch room to gather near the wide window.
I walk back over to the gate, and I unlatch it, which made a ton of noise. I attracted a few zombies, but Gwi-nam had my back every single time.
This led to a LOT of apologizing and thanking him, which he managed to find HILARIOUS.
In this situation?? SERIOUSLY?!
I crouched down and hugged the left wall, opposite of the window. There wasn't much to worry about. We kept walking towards the staircase. I was looking around for people to come out from under the tables, but it didn't look like anyone was coming.
I don't have very good eyesight, even with my contacts in, so I just assumed whatever was dark and under the tables was either abandoned backpacks or dead bodies. Either way, I wasn't sticking around to find out. "Let's make a run for it. We can do it," I whispered to him.
"Okay. You got it, boss," Gwi-nam whispered back, jokingly.
"Not the time for that," I whispered again. I stood up and ran into the hallway, Gwi-nam following closely behind me.
The hallway was filled with zombies. I was making sure to look at all of their faces to make sure they weren't my friends. Thankfully, I barely recognized any of them.
One of the zombies that I apparently missed knocked me into the concrete wall. I didn't have time to process what had happened and kept running, ignoring any pain for as long as possible.
Neither of us had time to kill any of them, and we had to keep shoving them out of the way until we found an empty room to recollect. We climbed three flights of stairs to get to a safe-ish zone.
It was the science room that we found first.
I walked in first, and Gwi-nam followed behind me. He quickly closed the door behind us, then stabbed the zombie in the room right in the side of the neck. He then pulled the knife out and laid the zombie down. It twitched out, and became motionless in a matter of seconds.
It looked like someone had already been here, the window was broken, both inside and outside. The door was previously open, and there was a note on the cabinet.
The note read:
There was also a hose that ran down to the floors below, however, the hose was about to fall out of the wall. No one could safely climb down.
"Looks like they left in a hurry. This was obviously recent," Gwi-nam reassured me.
I didn't even realize at the time, but I was crying. Looking at the note, I placed my hand beside it on the cabinet, and then lowered my head.
Without saying a word, Gwi-nam walked over to me and pulled me into a hug in an attempt to comfort me.
They weren't tears of sadness, though.
They're okay.
Nam-ra and Su-hyeok are okay! And chances are, they're just a couple floors below us.
I hugged Gwi-nam back, but continued crying. I rested my head against his chest. He didn't even ask what was wrong, like he understood.
After about ten seconds of being in his arms, I pulled back and wiped my tears. "I'm so happy they're okay.. For now, at least."
He put his hands on my shoulders and smiled. "I'm sure Su-hyeok's okay. You know he's the most athletic guy in the school. And it sounds like prez is already okay. We just have to find them." Gwi-nam seemed to flinch as he mentioned Su-hyeok.
Right. They didn't get along, did they?
Su did mention that he used to hang out with the bullies, so...
He removed his hands from my shoulders and looked out the window. I also looked out of the window. "They probably used the hose to climb down," I said.
"Should we risk it?"
"No. It'll fall. Plus, they'll probably attack us anyways."
"Why would they attack us?" he asked.
"Fear."
| Gwi-nam POV |
We got inside the science room and I closed the door behind us. A zombie charged at me, so I stabbed it in the neck with my knife. I let it fall to the floor and stop moving.
My relief was soon met with worry. I saw that y/n was crying, so I immediately walked over and pulled her into a hug. I read the note over her shoulder, and I instantly knew why.
Well...
At least her friends were okay...
In that moment, I felt just a tiny bit sad. I couldn't show it, though. No way.
What WILL we do after this whole shit is fixed?
We will probably never go back to school again. Everyone's gonna interview us. There's always gonna be some people who believe we are still infected.
All we have is each other now.
I continued to hug her for about ten seconds before she pulled away and wiped her own tears.
Even while she's crying, she's so god damn pretty.
I put my hands on her shoulders to comfort her.
It'll be okay, y/n.
| Y/n POV |
I was so exhausted from running. Tired. Everything hurt and I thought I scratched up my leg or something pretty bad, but I couldn't even tell at the time.
All I could think about was that my friends were okay.
...And how sweet this former bully was.
I got lost in thought for a moment, then looked up at Gwi-nam. He was fidgeting with something in his hand. "You know... You've had every opportunity to just kill me. Why haven't you? You seem like the kind of person to wanna go solo." The thing he was fidgeting with was his phone.
He looked up from the phone. "'Cause I like ya. You don't slow me down. You've been real helpful too. Never would've gotten this far without you, y/n. That's why.... Though I probably would have earlier... and I don't know why I didn't."
I smiled and looked down. "Yeah. If I had to get stuck with anyone, I'm glad it was you."
I grabbed my head.
Ow. It hurt like a bitch.
.....
Oh..
I feel... really.... dizzy..
Thump.
