WIND RUSHED against Lotties face as they climbed up on the tower. The metal was cold against her palms, making chills go up her spine.
She pulled herself up, Regan and Marcus already being there seconds before her. She sat against the railing, something that probably would have scared her a couple hundred days ago, but it was the least of her concerns at the moment.
She eyes the argument between the siblings about whether to stay or not. Lottie thought they should stay, because what else were they supposed to do? But she didn't have time to grab their attention before Marcus fell through a loose hatch.
Lottie's eyes almost burst from their sockets as she sped over, peeking her head over the hatch to make sure he was okay.
The brown haired boy was attempting to crawl through the corn to get to his flashlight and Lottie punched her eyes in concern Next to her, Regan was trying to get him to stop moving. Lottie joined in, waving her hands until the swinging door snapped of, falling right behind him.
The heavy metal caused Marcus to sink in some
more, making it difficult for him to breathe.
Regan turned to her, "stay." Lottie furrowed her eyebrows momentarily before Regan jumped down.
Lottie gaped at the sight, but calmed slightly when Marcus was safe on the door.
The panic returned when she could no longer spot Regan in the corn. With minimal hesitation, she jumped in.
She quickly felt around for Regans hand and when she found it, she used all her strength to pull the girl up. Regan gasped and climbed up onto the door, Lottie following. Lottie took a second to breathe, knowing she was probably going to have to run again soon.
Her breathing hitched when the metal around them creaked loudly. Lottie furrowed her eyebrows and sat up, being as quiet as possible.
The silence was eerie, and then Lottie jolted when the creature landed a few feet infront of them. Regan thought quickly, pulling the metal over them
Lottie breathed heavily, as the claws landed right next to her. She thought it was over, until she felt a sharp pain on her left arm.
The young girl refrained from crying out, feeling blood leave the wound as she struggled to hold up the metal.
The creature eventually turned around, the loud screeches piercing Lottie ears. They were finally able to push the metal door down, breathing heavily.
The trio looked to eachother before looking to the side. Lottie raised her eyebrows at the large tear in the metal the creature had made.
They climbed out, Lottie letting out a wince or two at the cut in her arm, but they made it out.
Lottie smiled when they spotted Lee in the distance, running up to him. He hugged his children, giving a smile to Lottie from between them. The young girl smiled back, fidgeting her hands.
"Are you okay?" He signed to all three, eyes dropping to Lottie's blood stained arm. Lottie shook her head as to ease his worries.
"I'm okay" She nodded. With a hesitant look he nodded, smiling for a moment.
Lottie almost rolled her eyes when they heard more screeching. Can this night be over already?
Lee raised a finger to his mouth to silence the three of them, his eyes wide. Lottie watched as he stood up slowly, shining his flashlight in different directions.
"Let's get to the truck" He signed, letting the kids go first. Lottie practically ran to the truck, not exactly wanting to die at the moment.
Regan climbed under the car, while Marcus and Lottie jumped through the open windows of the front. Lottie dropped to the floor of the passenger side, knees pulled to her chest.
With furrowed eyebrows, she watched as Marcus looks through the back window and decides to follow, jaw hanging low when she saw.
The creature was right above Lee, and when it noticed him, he slashed his side, sending him flying sideways.
"DAD!" The yell coming from beside her startled Lottie, slapping a hand over Marcus's mouth to shut him up.
She grabbed his arm, pulling him into the car as Regan jumped in as well. Lottie gripped onto the seats when the car rattled from the creature.
Lottie bit on her bottom lip, focusing on keeping herself from slamming into the dashboard. The shaking stopped however, and a loud, guttural yell, filled her ears.
Lottie whipped around, staring wide eyed with her mouth agape as she witness Lee Abbott, take his final breath right before the creature mutilated him.
Marcus pulled the gear shift, putting the car into motion as it rolled down the hill. Lottie sat in shock, staring at the back of the car, thinking over what just happened.
Marcus and Regan ran into their mother's arms, the three letting out breaths of relief. Lottie stood a few feet away, staring at the sand to let them have their moment.
This time, Lottie did roll her eyes when they heard more screeching. They all rushed inside, quickly going down the stairs.
Lottie sat next to Marcus on the cold concrete, leaning against the brick wall and staring at the ceiling.
Lottie chewed on her bottom lip as the creature slowly walked down the stairs. Her eyebrows pinched, glancing over at the newborn baby.
Jumping out of her skin when a loud crash sounds, turning her head to the now smashed tvs that littered the ground.
Lottie glanced back to the monster, scrunching her face at the way the faceβif you could even call it thatβopened up from multiple spots.
Suddenly, feedback whined from a speaker, causing the monster to tweak out, and collapse in the ground.
Lottie took a few shallow breaths, wondering if it was over before it jumped up. Just it time, Evelyn shot it, killing it.
When more rumbling sounds from above, the sound of Evelyn cocking her gun rang in her ears.
