"Hey, Kid! I can't steer this thing to safety. Drex wrecked the control panels, he must've done it before we got here."
"Dang it!"
The hero and ex-sidekick got themselves in quite the predicament, they were first fighting off Drex on a blimp in order to stop him from mind-controlling all of Swellview, and said blimp was currently on its way to crashing down the city. The two, now battered and bruised, had been desperately rushing around the blimp trying their best to find a solution that doesn't involve any casualties.
"I found these parachutes though."
Ray has one of the parachutes on his back before proceeding to drop the other parachute between them stating, "Let's bounce."
Henry looked at his friend in confusion.
"We can't bounce."
"Bounce means leave, Henry."
"Yeah, like 10 years ago, but also this blimp is headed straight for a hospital full of babies." Henry points out.
"...Well, those babies had a good run."
The ex-sidekick stared at the hero in disbelief, seemingly just noticing how differently he viewed the situation.
"Dude, they're babies!"
"Well, what are we supposed to do? You got an idea how to steer this thing, I'm all ears."
Henry looked around before locking his eyes at the spear next to Ray. "I got one."
He picks up the spear as his friend watches.
"What are you doing?" Ray asked.
Henry walks towards the front of the blimp. The blond preps his strength and then uses the spear to puncture another hole in the blimp, he looks up to the brunette after doing so.
"See? One of us has to use this to steer the blimp into Mt. Swellview. It's the only way to make sure this doesn't land in the city and light the whole block on fire." The blond explains.
The hero nods at the idea but couldn't help but worry about one single hiccup, "But whoever stays on the blimp is gonna end up in a giant ball of fire."
That's when Henry gave Ray a suggestive look. Ray felt his heart drop as he connected all the dots, now it was his turn to look at his friend in disbelief. No. He's bluffing. He wouldn't dare.
"Give me the spear," Ray ordered as he reached for the sharp object.
Henry pulled the targeted object away from him "No."
"Stop messing around," Ray warned.
"You're not indestructible anymore."
"You never were!"
"I was for like two days a couple years ago."
The kid showed no plans of changing his mind.
"I am the superhero, you are the sidekick!"
"I quit, remember?"
Ray's eyes flashed with slight anger as he started getting even more and more desperate. Dammit, why is this kid so stubborn?! Henry's 17! He's too young to just end like this! He has a whole life ahead of him with friends and family waiting for him right now! He can't be the one on the blimp, I won't allow it!
"Give me the spear," Ray stated firmly once more as he held a tight grip on the spear, he wasn't playing anymore. The kid needs to get to safety. But Henry has other plans and reciprocated the action, refusing to do so once again.
"Give me the spear!!"
The blond somehow manages to tear the object away from the hero's hands.
"Swellview needs you, Okay?! It needs Captain Man!"
"Put on your parachute and you get off this blimp right now!"
Henry shook his head and took a few steps back.
"Henry!"
"NO!"
"You were right, okay! You're only 13 when you took that oath! You didn't know what you were getting into. You didn't sign up for this! I did!"
Stiff silence.
"So, get outta here! Let me save my city."
Henry's expression seemed to soften at Ray's words, he contemplated on what he should say.
"Okay." He decides to respond with, "Okay, I'll go."Henry extends the spear in his hand towards Ray.
"But... one more thing."
"What?"
Henry gave Ray a sad smile...
"I love you, buddy..."
The blond grasped the rip-cord on his friend's parachute and pulled. Shocked, Ray barely had time to react as the canopy on his parachute was released, taking him away from the blimp. The hero felt betrayed and screamed as loud as he could for the blond, the final thing he see being the kid's apologetic expression.
I... did I really just do that?
Henry let out a shaky breath he didn't know he held. Ray... actually tried to talk him out of it, and... he didn't listen. A heavy feeling in his chest made him question his actions. He felt guilty.
Before he can ponder any further, he shook out of his trance and went on with his plan. No time for questioning my emotions, Swellview needs a hero. He starts to puncture more holes into the descending blimp whilst steering it towards Mt. Swellview collectively.

Ray landed on top of a nearby building after gliding in the air impatiently for god knows how long, he couldn't do anything but anxiously watch as the blimp in the sky starts heading towards the mountain, knowing that his friend, his kid, was still aboard. The brunette reached for his communicator and tries to connect with Henry, but he got no response.
C'mon kid... please at least respond...
...
...
"Ray?"
Ray felt a bit relieved to hear his voice again, but he wasn't all there.
"Henry, you..." He started, "You are in SO much trouble!"
"I... I- yeah I figured."
Henry grunted.
Ray grew a bit concerned, "What was that? You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm all right, it's just... steering this thing was not as easy as I anticipated."
Ray could hear the ex-sidekick chuckling as if he was taking this entire situation as a joke. That did not make him happy.
"Why the hell are you laughing?! This is not the time to mess around kid!"
"I know... I just..."
Silence.
"Thank you... for everything... I truly mean it..."
Ray shook his head, "Not now kid, save those words for later..."
"Sure buddy."
Even more silence as Ray looked back up at the blimp, that's when he noticed how dangerously close the blimp is to Mt. Swellview right now. His face dropped.
"Henry..."
"This is not gonna feel gooood..."
"Henry! Get off the blimp!"
"No can't do sir."
"Kid, I swear to GOD!"
"You know this is going to happen one way or another."
Ray opened his mouth to respond but nothing came out.
"Ray?"
...
"Just don't be too mad at me okay...? Love you."
A loud crash was heard. The communicator erupted with static.
"HENRY!"

It had been weeks since Kid Danger's passing. All of Swellview came to pay their respects at his memorial. He wasn't known as just a sidekick anymore, he was known as a brave beloved hero grieved by many. Some citizens however couldn't help but notice Captain Man wasn't seen after his speech at the funeral but were understanding of why judging by the events that have occurred.
Speaking of the brunette, Ray stood in the new and improved Man Nest as he viewed the Danger Force kids in training with Schwoz as the instructor (well more of a target). They were doing... alright. They could use some work but they were doing better than a week ago at least.
Ray had all the kids queue up to test out what they learned about their powers on Schwoz. Mika, Miles, and Chapa all had their turns and it was now finally Bose's turn.
He stood forward, comically spitting on his hands and rubbing them together.
"FACE MY WRATH CRIMINAL!"
He extended his right hand out and managed to have Schwoz ascend off the ground.
"Ayeeee!" Schwoz exclaimed in surprise.
The others including Bose looked dumbfounded, it took Bose a few seconds to realise what he was doing.
"HOHOHO! WOWWW!" The young brunette looked at his friends. "YOU GUYS, I FINALLY-"
That's when Schwoz suddenly fell back down on the ground landing face first. Everyone said 'oooo's or winced thinking that looked painful.
"Oops..." Bose muttered, "Sorry Schwoz!"
Schwoz still on the ground, seeming to be in pain, brushed off the apology and responded with, "It's okay, you were close."
"Alright." Ray stepped up half assisting the man before letting go and having him fall to the ground once more, "It's getting dark out, you guys should be heading home."
The group pouted, wanting to stay a little longer but knew they had to leave or else their parents will be suspicious. They grabbed all their belongings and prepare to leave, Mika having a conversation with Bose expressing her jealousy on how he could somewhat control his telekinesis better than her own powers, Bose then said something somewhat egotistic. Ray smiled, those two reminded him of Henry and Charlotte.
Schwoz decided to follow and watch the group of trainees, making sure they actually leave the Man Nest instead of running around the space like gremlins refusing to leave. Ray watches the kids leave with a smile on his face before turning to face...
"What do you think of them?"
"Honestly..." Henry sat on the ground facing the man, "They're plain awful."
Ray rose his eyebrows.
Henry laughed, "No, I'm just kidding. They have potential. With a bit more training, they might as well just replace you."
"Oh, fuck off..." The hero rolled his eyes playfully.
Henry cringed, "No, don't do that. It doesn't match your face."
"What? Can't a grown man say 'oh, fuck off'?"
The blond snickers, "You know what I mean."
Ray gasped dramatically at the blond in fake offense, "Are you implying that I'm too old?"
"No, I'm implying that you're stealing Charlotte's thing, and I don't need 2 Charlottes lecturing me about every single reckless thing I do in my life." The blond responds sarcastically.
"Well, tough luck for you because I'm not letting you off the hook for what you did last week."
The blond sighed, "Hey I'm here, aren't I?"
Ray didn't respond, he walks towards the blond and sat next to him. His smile slowly turns into a frown, Henry notices this and looked at his friend in concern.
"What's wrong, Ray?"
Ray was silent, trying to form his thoughts into words.
"I can't believe how blindsided I was for not noticing how much of your teenage years had been spending time fighting crimes with me instead of... y'know, being a teenager. Yeah, I had my concerns in the past but you always seemed to bring them down by showing me how carefree you were doing it. I didn't take my time to think about how you truly feel about being my sidekick."
The blond furrowed his brows.
"You said so yourself... You've been too committed to your job and ended up not graduating from high school because of me."
Henry frowned, "Ray..."
"You were too busy saving lives and didn't have time to live one of your own because of me."
"Ray."
"You had to lie to your loved ones for the sake of their identities being compromised because of me. I should've respected your decision, but I shamed you about it. What kind of person am I if I don't even think about others before myself? You're just a kid and I've put you through situations no person your age should-"
"Ray!"
The brunette immediately goes silent.
"Starting off, none of this, and I mean NONE of this is your fault. I made the decision to be your sidekick, I made the decision of running into that clock store on the edge of exploding, I made the decision to sacrifice my Hyper Motility to stop Rick Twitler from causing a near dark age, and I made the decision to steer that blimp to Mt. Swellview."
Henry places his hand on Ray's shoulder, causing the hero to really look at the blond teen. He notices how the blond wasn't showing any rage or sadness towards him for taking up his teenage years, instead he showed genuine empathy and contentment.
"Swellview is my home, I'm happy with what I've done to protect it. But for the sake of cheering you up, I just want you to know that despite everything that has happened, I'll always be here to cheer you on."
Ray let Henry's words sink in for a moment and slowly starts to tear up. He didn't care anymore. He kneeled on the ground facing Henry and pulled him in for a hug. Henry reciprocated it almost immediately.
"I miss you kid... Thank you..."
Henry smiled, "Anytime... dad."
They embraced each other for a little while longer...
...
Until Ray felt Henry's presence disappear as glowing blue particles take his place and slowly fade out. Ray, still kneeling on the ground, let his hands slowly rest on his side as he wears a stone face expression.
"Ray?"
Ray looked up from the ground to face his coworker.
"You need to take your medication," Schwoz states, the tone of his voice visibly showing concern and despair.
Ray looked out the window towards the sky.
"I just wanted to see him again." He responded.
Schwoz frowns, "I'll leave your Risperdal on your bedside table, make sure to really take it okay? It'll help you feel better."
Schwoz exits the training room, leaving Ray alone.
