I woke up the next morning very tired, to say the least. After parting with Malfoy, I went to bed but couldn't sleep for another hour. But then again, a delicious Hogwarts breakfast was waiting, so I didn't lose any time preparing for the school day. I and Leila went down to the Great Hall to see that it was storming with students. We sat down at our table and started eating what was for breakfast. When I finished, I went to the Ravenclaw table to say hello to my Ravenclaw friend.
"Good morning, Loony, anything new on Quibbler?" I said sitting down next to her.
"Hello, Y/N," she answered biting the sandwich she prepared for herself "Not much really, but I noticed a certain serpent staring at you as soon as you entered the hall, seemed very creepy to me."
"Was he now?" I asked rhetorically looking at where Malfoy usually sits. My eyes found him looking at me and Luna from the Slytherin table. As he saw me and Luna looking back at him, he stood up and stormed out of the hall.
"Quite strange, wouldn't you agree?" Luna asked looking at me, then looked at the clock, "Your Potions class is starting in 2 minutes."
"Looks like I will be running, huh? See you at lunch." I got up, took my Potions book, and stormed out of the hall straight to my class hoping the teacher wouldn't be too mad at me for being a minute late. But right now, it wasn't as much concerning to me as the infamous Draco Malfoy wanting to talk to me at night and then glaring at me the next morning. Whatever made me trust him enough to talk about what I am thinking is magic only Merlin is capable of doing.

I smashed the door of the Potions classroom open and found multiple taken aback face staring back at me. Looking for the teacher to apologize for coming in late I heard my name called suddenly from behind my back, I jolted looking back. It was Slughorn.
"You must be L/N, come on in dear, we were right about to start," he looked around to find an empty space next to one of the students, "Sit next to Mister Zabini, will you?"
"Yes, sir," I said hurriedly going up to Blaise to sit down with him.
I gave Blaise a small fist bump before sitting down. Zabini was one of the only wizards I was capable of tolerating. He was a great friend and a great partner in pranks. In year 5, we helped the Weasley twins organize Umbridge's, or "Umbitch's", O.W.L.'s exam disruption. The prank itself was historical. Ever since then, we found it obligatory to visit the Weasley twins' shop during the summer to buy supplies in order to be ready for any future Umbridges in the future. So far, nothing out of the ordinary happened, so we didn't talk much.
"L/N, how have you been?" Blaise asked me with a smile plastered on his face.
"Could be better," I answered "Did Slughorn say anything about what we have to do for today's class?"
"Apparently, we have to brew Draught of Living Death potion or something like that," Blaise replied "And well, he said whoever managed to make it would be given Liquid Luck potion."
"So much for a luck potion?" I quirked my eyebrow "What page is the recipe on?"
"Page 10," Blaise answered casually and went back to make his potion.
That was my sign to start my work, extra credit for trying wouldn't hurt, would it? Although Snape did say I am one of the more exceptional students in his Potions class, I don't think I would be able to make a potion even a 7th year can't make. So, I got settled near the Slytherins where there was a space left next to Malfoy.
Setting up the cauldron and taking the ingredients off the shelf Slughorn told me to get the things I needed, I started improvising. Never in my life have I had so much fun spending my precious time on a stupid potion I couldn't make, because a stupid bean-like ingredient wouldn't stay in its place. I got angry and aggressively hit the knife on the bean which, therefore, jumped straight into the bowl. That was too much for the potion, so it started boiling and fuming.
"Careful not to blow up your bird-sized brain, L/N," Malfoy smirked "Although, I doubt that there is one on there."
This little twat.
I took a handful of those beans and threw them into Malfoy's cauldron as fast as I could, so he wouldn't let me not to. Long story short, it blew up right on his face. Shouldn't have called my brilliant brain bird-sized.

After finishing dinner and talking for a while with Luna till 12 in the evening, I went to the Slytherin dorm to get some sleep. Today wasn't even a bad day. I successfully ruined mine and Malfoy's chances of getting the Luck potion which led to Harry succeeding in getting it instead. This infuriated Malfoy which was quite entertaining. What was not entertaining, however, was Malfoy running after me through the whole caste to use the transfiguration charm on me to turn me into a chipmunk.
As I entered the common room, smiling to myself while replaying today's day in my head I was greeted by the chipmunk-turning-wizard. He was, yet again, sitting on the couch looking at the green flames, up until he looked at me with disapproval then turned his head back to the fireplace. God, this kid was still huffy about what happened in the morning? Talk about being childish.
I went up to the fireplace and sat myself down happily on the floor, "Hello, Malfoy, miss me much?" I said chucking.
"I would rather die than feel your presence right now," Malfoy replied dryly.
"That's not nice asking someone to meet you then shooing them away, is it now? Come on I apologized, can't we move on and chat for a while?" I said sarcastically hoping to get under his skin.
"Is apologizing, in your book, hexing paper birds then throwing them at people?" Malfoy asked.
"Okay, sorry for throwing paper birds at you, but I deserve an apology as well." I sighed looking at him "You know, underestimating how big of a brain I possess was very annoying."
"I am not apologizing for shit, L/N. Why did you show up?" he asked taking his eyes off of the flames and turning them to me "I thought you wouldn't want to show up after ditching me yesterday."
"Oh, please, don't say it like that as if you stayed up all night. Pretty sure after our boring conversation you were bored enough to sleep like a baby." I said rolling my eyes.
Malfoy was petty, I knew that. But I didn't know that he was so petty that he would victimize himself over something so stupid.
"Actually, I did. And I blame you, L/N, because of the things you said. That can actually mess with your brain." Malfoy said putting his head into his hands sighing.
The silence was loud. I couldn't blame him, after all, I did probably scare him by saying what was on my mind. So, it was only fair for me to do something to cheer him up a bit. Not that I care about how happy he is of course, just to make him shut up about not letting him sleep.
"Want to make paper birds with me?" I asked hoping to get a yes from him, it wouldn't be bad to do something together.
"What kind of-" Malfoy sighed then continued "Sure."
I got up to take some parchment paper from the table feeling Malfoy's gaze on me. I got to the table to take the paper when I also noticed untouched chocolate frogs there too. Pretty sure whoever had it there wouldn't mind giving it to someone. I took the chocolate and went back to Malfoy.
"I got the papers," I announced and sat on the couch next to him "I also got chocolate snacks, for only myself though."
"Why is that? Give me at least one, don't be so greedy." Malfoy replied cheekily.
"Because you are already one." I smiled then winked at him and started laughing. I looked up to see his reaction but, oh my, was Draco Malfoy laughing too?
"My, my, is the Draco Malfoy laughing at my pick-up line?" I asked looking at him with a smirk.
He stopped laughing, probably because I caught him red-handed laughing. He then looked at me with a serious face and said "I was laughing at your stupidity, L/N, now give me the papers so I can make some birds."
"Whatever you say, king," I said giving him a piece of paper from the stock and then taking one for myself to make one.
While making the paper birds we didn't say anything to each other. It was just us in a comfortable silence, where only the crackling sounds of the green flames could be heard. I looked at his hands gently folding the paper as if it was so fragile it could break. I smiled to myself thinking how much of a gentle person could be the one always bullying and making the most offensive remarks. I examined his ice-cold pale hands and saw a pretty ring on his index finger.
"What ring is that?" I asked half-whispering "It's very pretty, where did you get it?"
"A gift from my mother, it's old now, though, might get a new one for Christmas," Malfoy answered not taking his attention off the bird he was making.
Silence filled the room again. I wouldn't even dream about making something as silly as a paper bird with Draco Malfoy in the common room, but here we were. Sitting next to each other, not talking, but still, oddly enough, keeping each other company. We made quite a few paper birds, so Malfoy suggested we make them fly, to which I agreed. He raised his wand and then enchanted the birds to fly.
As I watched them fly in awe when I saw him look at me.
"Say, L/N," he started looking right through my eyes with his, which were filled with nothing but sadness "Help me sleep from now on."
