It was agonizing to hear Scaramouche beg you to stay, but you knew what had to be done. Scaramouche's words were blended with his cries, which caused his voice to break and it just completely tore you apart. 

This was tough and painful for both of you.

Scaramouche

"Turn me in! I'll be turned in with you, they'll have both criminals it just-"

You

"Scaramouche, no... You know what she said in the letter, I am to bring nobody but myself... I'm sorry."

"I'm doing this to keep you and the others safe, remember?"

Scaramouche

"But how am I supposed to feel safe..."

"If I don't have you anymore?..."

He just couldn't help himself. He was sobbing so hard that he began to hiccup, tremble, and grasp his chest hard - this was a full-fledged panic attack right in front of your eyes.

You

Not good, not good...

Scaramouche

"Y/N!"

He wailed your name, panicking.

You

"I'm here, I'm here, shh... You need to rest."

Scaramouche

"No... But-"

You

"I know, it's hard to move on..."

"Come on, breathe with me."

Scaramouche

"I... I can't breathe-"

You

"Remember? Just like my jail cell back at the fatui headquarters."

"Now, breathe in..."

He inhaled and exhaled shakily, his sobs disrupting him.

"Yes, just like that. You're doing great."

With teary eyes and strained brows, he looked you in the eyes. One of your hands was on the left side of his face, and the other was on the right side of his neck. You found that he loved it when you did that.

You

"There we go... All better?"

He didn't say anything, instead, he leaned forward and wrapped his arms around your neck, sinking his head into your shoulder once again.

*Sniffle*

"I'm going to assume that's a yes."

Walking around soaking in the night was chilly, so you wrapped Scaramouche in a towel. As you and Scaramouche came home, the rest of them were already eating supper.

You were guiding and supporting Scaramouche with your hands on his shoulders.

Kazuha

"Y/N?-"

"Don't-"

"... Say anything."

Itto

"Hey, where have you been?! I had to cook another meal for all of us! Aren't you going to eat?!"

You

"I'll eat after, okay?"

Scaramouche

*Shiver*

You walked into your room, closing the door behind you.

Shinobu

"... What happened?..."

"Scaramouche looked so scared."

Kazuha

"I don't know... Today's been a strange day. Look, N/N hasn't paid any attention to their pet snake, and they treat it like a little princess. Yet, Itto had to take care of it."

Itto

"I heard screaming from N/N's room, do you think they're like..." *Gasp!* "Do you think they've kidnapped someone?!"

Kazuha

"No, idiot, they were crying. I saw it."

Shinobu

"Why so?"

Kazuha

"I don't know... It probably had something to do with Scaramouche or whatever. At first, I thought they were pissed off because Scaramouche told them about the jokes I made. But, I know that N/N's not a dumbass, so they wouldn't cry over something like that."

"If anything, they'd probably laugh along."

Itto

"I did see Scaramouche stomp out of the house too! A fight maybe?"

You

"So that's the type of stuff you talk about at dinner?"

Kazuha

"N/N!- How long have you been there?!"

You

"I've... Been here. Am I really that hard to notice?"

Itto

"No, N/N, no! Not at all! You were just so incredibly diligent that none of us could even notice!"

You

"Okay, enough. Scaramouche is washing up, I'll just eat dinner with you guys. I haven't eaten anything all day."

Everyone looked at you awkwardly as you sat down, your drenched clothes soaking up the chair. You started eating but stopped when you realized everyone had their eyes on you.

"... What?"

Kazuha

"Oh!..."

Shinobu

*Cough*

Itto

"Oh no! Shinobu, are you okay?!"

Shinobu

"You fucking idiot, I'm trying to not be awkward."

Itto

"Yeah, me too."

Kazuha

"Guys, it's not working."

They all murmured and whispered to each other.

You

"I can hear all of you. Learn how to whisper properly."

Itto

"Oh!... Uh-"

Everyone began to awkwardly chuckle, avoiding eye contact at all times.

"Is there... Something you want to talk about?... Or?..."

Kazuha

"Well- Uh..."

You

"Come on, spill it. Unless you want to wait for Scaramouche to get here so we can talk about it altogether."

Itto

"No!- No, we don't want Scaramouche to be here!-"

You

"Ooh, ouch. That would've hurt his feelings, and you would've been going to bed with a big fat bruise on your eye."

Itto

"Wait- I didn't mean it that way!... I meant... I mean-"

Shinobu

"What Itto is trying to say-"

She elbowed him.

Shinobu

"-Is that he prefers if Scaramouche doesn't hear this conversation."

You

"Well, go on. What is it you want to talk about with me?"

Kazuha

"Did you and Scaramouche... Have a fight?"

You

"Yeah. A pretty bad one too."

You said, while casually eating your food.

Itto

"Aha! I was right about the fight!"

Shinobu

"Itto, enough! Do I need to tame you?!"

Itto

"Ouch!-"

Shinobu kicked his shin beneath the table.

You

"Alright, is that it? Anything else you want to know?"

Kazuha

"..."

It was written all over their faces. 

You

*Sigh* "You want to know the reason too, don't you?"

They slowly nodded.

You

"Ah, I was gonna have to tell you guys too. Just please don't flip out on me like he did, alright? That was enough to deal with."

"In short, today's my last day with all of you."

Shinobu

"What?!"

Kazuha

"Pardon me?!"

Itto

"Nooo! Are you killing yourself?!"

You

"Itto, no!..."

"Well, on second thought-"

Itto

"N/N!"

"Nah, nah, I'm just playing with you."

"But I'm serious about today being my last day."

Kazuha

"But... Why?"

You

"A week ago, Ei sent me a letter."

"Since she sent that messenger bird to my exact location, it meant that she found me."

Kazuha

"Oh, that bitch..."

You

"She told me to turn myself in since I'm apparently Inazuma's biggest threat. I don't know what her deal is, I've only robbed Inazuma City like... Once."

"She said she'd harm us all if I didn't turn myself in. Scaramouche hated the idea of this, which is why he was so upset. You know how he feels about separation."

Itto

"... I actually don't know how he feels about separation, but-"

Shinobu

"Itto, shut up before I get the duct tape."

Itto

"Eek! Yes ma'am!"

He sat up straight in his chair, keeping his lips shut tight.

You

"Things escalated from there. Well, how do I explain it..."

*Sigh* "You guys are right. Scaramouche confessed to me, we're a thing now. He was especially upset about the fact that he'd just found someone he truly loved, and he was about to lose them again."

Kazuha

"Oh man..."

Everyone was staring at you once more.

You

"Agh, what else do you want me to say?! Haven't I said enough?!"

Shinobu

"Well, uh... Just a while ago, Scaramouche came in here trembling. With you by his side."

You

"Ah, so you want to know about that too."

Kazuha

"N/N, we want to know everything."

You

"I just wanted to make this day special for Scaramouche, so I brought him out to walk with me along the shore. We started playing around in the seawater which is why we're drenched."

"He started to beg me to stay, but for everyone's safety I know I can't."

Shinobu

"We'll miss you, N/N."

You

"Heh... I never thought I'd hear that from you."

"Not hungry?"

Scaramouche

"Mm-mmh."

He shook his head while he lay on your bed. You just finished your dinner.

You

"You know I'll be back someday, right? Ei can't keep me in jail forever."

Scaramouche

"You'll be back?"

He sat up, with a shocked look on his face, and you laughed.

*Chuckle* "Yes, I'll be back."

Scaramouche

"When?..."

You

"Well... I'll be gone for quite some time."

"Unless I escape, but then Ei would probably make her way here to kill all of you."

Scaramouche

"How about we make some sort of plan?"

You

"Like?..."

You asked while sitting on the bed beside him.

Scaramouche

"I don't know... What I have in mind would probably get us all killed."

You

*Sigh*

"Hey, while I'm gone, cook for them. Itto sucks at cooking, I swear he burnt the dinner."

Scaramouche laughed, it melted your heart to see a smile on his face.

You

"And... You have my entire wardrobe to yourself. You get to wear my stuff whenever and however you like, isn't that cool?"

Scaramouche

"Wearing them would just make me miss you more though."

You

*Sigh* "You're right."

Scaramouche

"I don't know if I can sleep tonight... I don't want to."

You

"No, no..."

You moved closer to him and allowed him to lay down on you, tenderly cuddling him with your arms.

You

"You deserve to rest. You've been through enough today."

Scaramouche squeezed you tightly, knowing it was his last night with you.

He kissed you all over, knowing it was the final time he could ever kiss you.

"Goodnight, Y/N."

You

"Hm."

He was finally accepting it, finally putting his mind at ease. You sobbed quietly, not wanting to wake him.

-THE NEXT MORNING-

You kissed him goodbye - gentle kisses on Scaramouche's forehead were exactly what he needed. He turned around in his sleep, quite at ease while he lay on your bed. You were already dressed and ready to go, carrying a letter that you intended to lay beside Scaramouche on the table.

"Y/N!"

Scaramouche had awoken an hour after you had left. He read your note, your words of farewell, and searched the entire house. He assumed he'd finally accepted it the night before, but that didn't appear to be the case. He was still in denial and was unable to move on.

Scaramouche

"Y/N?!"

Kazuha

"They're gone."

Scaramouche

"?!..."

Everyone sat in the living room, their moods down.

Scaramouche

"When... When did they leave?!"

He asked, shaking Kazuha's shoulders back and forth violently.

Shinobu

"About an hour ago."

Shinobu answered for Kazuha.

Scaramouche

"They can't be too far!"

Itto

"Wait- Scaramouche, stop!"

Scaramouche

"What?! Are you going to tell me it's too dangerous?"

Itto

"You're putting us all in danger. What you plan to do is selfish."

Scaramouche

"No. If the Electro Archon says she'll hurt all of you, I'll threaten to hurt her right-hand man. Kujuo Sara can easily be overpowered."

Shinobu

"I'm not sure... Scaramouche, maybe you should just stay here. You don't know what she has planned for all of us."

Scaramouche

*Sigh* "I want you guys to hide at the far side of the island, facing northwest."

Kazuha

"Scaramouche!"

Still dressed in your clothes with his bed hair, he rushed out of the house to start chasing you down.

"You made the right decision, N/N."

Ei was already waiting for you at the entrance of Inazuma City.

Ei

"Hm, still quiet, are we?"

Ei

"It's about time to see what you're hiding under that mask, N/N. You're turning yourself in, surely you can't sit in a jail cell with that mask on forever."

*Sigh* "It's no use. Just arrest them already."

The soldiers' hands were on your wrists as they tied your hands up with rope.

She dropped to one knee and coughed while holding her head.

Kujuo Sara

"My lady?! What's the matter?!"

Sara and the other troops eventually fell to the ground.

You

"Oh no..."

You mumbled as a thick, purple gas surrounded you.

The purple gas let you know that he was here.

Kujuo Sara

*Cough* "My lady!"

Ei

"Sara!"

Sara was being dragged over the ground, away from the purple haze. Ei instantly sprang up and followed them.

Scaramouche

"Give N/N back, and you get your stupid right-hand man back or whatever."

Ei

"You."

Scaramouche

"Yeah, it's me."

Furious, Ei went right back into the purple smoke, coming back out with her blade right against your neck. It was already starting to make a surface cut.

You

"!..."

Scaramouche

"Take the blade down!"

Ei

"Let Sara go first."

Scaramouche

"You think I'm going to trust you just like that?!"

Ei

"Obviously not, but what other choice do you have?"

"You're a terrible son, listen to your mother."

Scaramouche

"You're a terrible mother! You made me like this!"

Ei

"Tsk- Don't get onto that topic."

Scaramouche

"You brought it up first."

"You're gonna take your blade away from N/N, and I'm gonna take my hands off of Sara."

"Then, we'll let them go at the same time."

Ei

"Are you telling me what to do?"

Scaramouche

"Yes? What else does it sound like I'm doing?"

She lowered her blade as ordered. Nevertheless, the minute he let go of Sara, Ei shoved you and Sara aside and swung her blade...

Scaramouche

"...!"

He froze.
