You walked up the stairs to find Five pressing the elevator's button. He stood straight, looking stressed and somehow scared or uneasy. Five's eyes looked up to see you panting and out of breath. He suddenly remembered the Handler's words.
"Your return caused almost losing her life."
You didn't utter a word and just stood beside him. Five saw some blood in the corner of your lips and he wondered what happened to you. "You gotβ"
"Were you ever going to tell me?" You asked, interrupting him.
"Tell you what?"
"About Dad experimenting and freezing me."
Five blinked, surprised that you knew it so quickly. "Well I was about to after this dinner but it looks like you remembβ"
"I didn't. Luther told me."
Five sighed, rolling his eyes. "Of course he did."
"At least I got a confirmation that you were planning to tell me."
"Well, I did tell you I'm going to help you remember."
"Just wished you could've said it sooner."
"Would you have handled it better?"
You were silent. It took some seconds to let out a response from you which was just a shrug. "Depends. Probably hit you."
"Why me?"
"There's no one else to hit other than you." You sighed before looking at him. "I just really wished you could've said it sooner."
"I'm sorry." His apology was genuine as if he wanted to cherish every second of this moment. "For everything. You're right. I should've said it sooner. I was a shitty friend ever since I came back to your life and you don't deserve a shitty treatment."
You stared at him in disbelief. "Five fucking Hargreeves is fucking confessing and being soft right now. My eyes and ears are probably deceived right now."
Five sighed. "I want to say every word I want to say to you because I want to cherish every single second that I am with you right now. I don't care if I look or sound like a soft guy today, tomorrow, or the next few week, months, and years. I just want you to know, right now, that I am sorry."
You were speechless but you smiled. "Well, if you want to savor every second you're with me then I accept your apology. We only have few days until the apocalypse so I might as well forgive you than being dead and angry at you."
"We'll live and stop the apocalypse. Trust me."
The elevator doors finally opened. You and Five stepped inside and he pressed the button. As you waited for the doors to close, someone stopped the doors from closing. "Wait up."
It was Diego. You smiled at him while Five stared at him in surprise.
"Hold it." Allison got inside and was surprised to see Diego, you, and Five. She looked behind her to see Klaus stumbling to get inside and behind her was Vanya. "Hey, everyone." Klaus greeted with a flask of alcohol in his hand and has glasses on even though it was evening.
"Hello to you too." You greeted back smiling at Klaus. He looked down at you and softly gasped. "Oh, baby sis! You're here!" Klaus patted your head.
Luther was the last to get in, excusing himself so you were a bit squished between the elevator's wall and Five. You stepped back a bit so you could some space. Five smiled to himself knowing his family is here with him to meet the man who raised and adopted them all. "Good. We're all here."
The elevator finally closed. As all waited for the right floor, you heard a small grunt from Luther. Before you could even look at him, Allison sniffed something odd. Everyone suddenly reacted. Diego smiled a bit, looking down to contain his laughter, Allison waved her hand as she tried to get rid of the smell, Vanya covered her nose, Five scrunched his face in disgust and covered his nose as he placed his other hand on the elevator's wall.
You covered your nose and glared at Luther. "Luther!" You scolded.
"Oh, my God." Vanya sighed, still covering her nose.
"Sorry, I'm nervous," Luther confessed.
Meanwhile, Klaus was sniffing in the smell and grinned. "Luther, that smells amazing!"
Everyone looked at him in surprise while you looked away, snickering. The elevator doors finally opened and everyone got out, Five even overreacting. "Nasty. I'm choking!"
"All right, drama queen." You chuckled as you walked beside him. "Everyone farts. Don't act like you don't."
Everyone walked down a few stairs and found a room with no people and just a big table in the middle. Five pressed his hands against a chair and looked at everyone. "All right, when Dad gets here, I'll do the talking, okay?"
"Got a few questions for him myself," Diego said.
"Hey, we don't wanna scare him off, all right? He might be able to help us stop doomsday, get us home."
"No, Five, we need to figure out why he's planning to kill the president."
"This is a matter of life and death, you imbecile.
Vanya raised her hand to stop the two from arguing. "Okay, yeah, maybe we should take turns talking. Yeah?" She looked down at the small table beside her and took something. "Here, whoever has got this conch shell gets to talk."
"Vanya, we don't have time for a debate, okay?"
You nudged Five causing him to wince a bit. "She's got a point. In an orderly and organized manner, we should take turns. Everyone wants to ask Dad about something. We should all talk to Dad, you little gremlin."
The group froze except for you and Vanya. You stared at them in confusion as the others softly gasped. Klaus grinned in delight as he nodded at Five. Five bit his inner cheeks. You blinked as you looked at everyone. "What?"
"She said the thing!" Klaus cheered, clapping.
"What thing?"
"Little gremlin is the nickname you made up for me." Five explained. "You used to call me by that to tease until soon it just became a normal thing for you to call me."
You gasped. "Oh! Damn, I didn't know that."
Five smiled. "Glad to know you're slowly remembering."
"Maybe I should lead," Allison suggested as she took the conch shell from Vanya's hand. "We all know I'm a better public speaker than the rest."
"Okay, Daddy's girl." Diego mocked.
"Oh, jealous, Number Two?" Allison teased.
"Hey, no more numbers. No more bullshit. We're Team Zero. We're all Team Zero."
Luther, who's now sitting down, raised his finger up. "Uh, Diego. You don't have the conch."
Diego raised his finger up, signaling him to wait, then taking the conch shell, throwing it away. Allison sighed. "Classic."
You wiped your lips to find it bleeding. 'Oh fuck me. I forgot I have blood on my lips.' You quickly wiped it away. Suddenly, the doors opened revealing Sir Reginald Hargreeves walking inside. His walk already intimidated you, scared you on his instant enter. It made you shudder and your heartbeat raced in anxiety. Just like when you were a kid.
He has his papers and notebook squished between his arm and chest, his monocle shining through the light. Everyone was quiet and somehow speechless. It's been a long time since they've seen their father well and alive. Reginald sat down causing all of you, except Luther and Vanya who were already sitting down, to sit down. "Not only have you burglarized my lab, set my chimp loose, conned your way into the Mexican consulate, repeatedly stalked and attacked me, but you have, on numerous occasions called me..."
As Reginald brought out his pen, Klaus made a noise by bringing another chair to the table with a drink in his hand. Klaus sat down, just beside a disturbed Reginald, and glanced at Reginald. "Hey, Pop. How's it hangin'?"
"...'Dad'." Reginald finished his sentence.
Five clenched his jaw, glaring at Klaus before looking back at Reginald who started talking again. "My reconnaissance tells me you're not CIA, not KGB, certainly not MI5, so... who are you?"
No one dared to speak, looking awkwardly or shy to speak out the words. Before Five could answer, you interrupted him.
"Well, based on what you just heard from us multiple times. We called you 'Dad' and that means we're you're children." You spoke out. "I'd be surprised if a CIA agent called you their father." And now it was Five's turn to nudge you. He gave you a look before facing Reginald again. "She's, uh, right. We're you're children. We're from the future."
Reginald looked at Five and held his head high as he listened to the little man. "In 1989, you adopted us all and trained us to fight against the end of the world. Called us the Umbrella Academy."
Klaus raised his glass up while Reginald furrowed his eyebrows. "Why on earth would I adopt sevenβ"
"Eight." Allison corrected. "One of us isn't here."
"Dead," Diego added. "One of us is dead."
'No, I'm here!' You heard a familiar voice exclaiming. You looked around to find out who it was. 'Ben?' You asked mentally.
"Dead, yes, but I'm here!" Ben said but of course, none of them couldn't hear him except for Klaus but his thought could be heard by you. "Klaus!" Ben called out. "Tell them I'm here."
"Yeah, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba." Klaus turned around, looking at Ben. "Enough of that now."
You looked at where he was looking and figured that Ben must be there somewhere. Reginald was confused about what Klaus was doing and when Klaus turned to him, he nodded at him and waved his hands, urging him and everyone to continue. "Regardless," Reginald continued. "What would possess me to adopt eight ill-mannered malcontents?"
'Okay, now that's just rude but somehow true.' You huffed.
"We all have special abilities." Five answered.
"Special? In what sense?"
"In the superpower sense," Luther answered.
"Called me old-fashioned, but I'm a stickler for a pesky little thing called evidence. Show me."
Allison grabbed her drink, stirring it, and scoffing. "Everybody wants to see powers all of a sudden."
"We're not circus animals, okay?" Luther said. "We're not gonna bounce balls on our noses and clap our hands like seals for your amusement."
In all of a sudden, Diego threw one of his knives. The knife suddenly changed direction, almost hitting Reginald who flinched a bit in surprise. It hit a wooden pillar and Reginald took notes. Just like what he did when you were kids.
Everyone leaned in to learn what he taking notes of. "What are you writing?" Diego asked.
"You are zero for two, young man."
Allison sputtered, snickering as she was drinking and you softly smiled but tried to hide it. Diego, in annoyance, was about to charge at Reginald but Five acted quickly, spatial jumping in front of his brother and stopping him which fascinated Reginald. "Stop!" Five whispered at Diego. Reginald stared at Five. "Now that is interesting."
"Of course he is." You muttered as you stirred your own drink which was heard by Allison who raised an eyebrow and smirked at you. Your eyes widened and shook your head, denying that you said anything.
Five cleared his throat. "All right, uh, quick rundown." He returned to his seat then pointed at Luther. "Luther: super strength. Klaus can commune with the dead. (Y/n) has telekinetic abilities and she can hear anyone's thoughts sometimes unexpectedly or if she chooses a person to listen to."
Reginald turned to you which made you sink a bit in your chair and quickly looking away. 'Maybe if I look away, he won't see or notice me.'
'That's also interesting.' You heard Reginald's thoughts.
"Allison can rumor anyone to do anything."
"Except she never uses it," Diego added which annoyed Allison. She brought her drink down and used her powers to him. "I heard a rumor you punched yourself in the face."
Diego's eyes turned pale white and did what just Allison said. He punched himself in the face causing Diego to scream in pain. "Aah!" He groaned in pain. "Damn it!"
You stared at Allison in amusement while Vanya smiled at Allison. Allison, proud of what she did, slurped her drink loudly.
Reginald turned to Vanya. "And you?" Vanya looked up shyly and quietly. Luther spoke up. "Uh, maybe we don't take Vanya for a test run."
Klaus nodded. "Oh, yeah, that's probably not a good idea."
"Yeah." Luther nodded along.
"It's fine," Vanya said. She stood up straight confidently. "I can handle it."
"Handle it?" Allison asked. "Last time you handled it you definitely blew up the moon."
Vanya didn't listen and grabbed a fork, preparing to hit the glass in front of her.
"No, Vanya, don't!" Five protested while you were just watching, waiting for what's about to happen. Klaus and Diego moved their chairs back in fear while Reginald watched. Vanya, of course, ignored the overlapping protests and excitedly tapped her fork against the glass.
A high-pitched tone resonated, exploding the fruits and meal in front of everyone. Everyone was hit of course even Reginald and his beloved monocle, well, except for you. You managed to create a small shield-like a force field around you.
Everyone sighed as they wipe out the fruits on their shirts. "This is my favorite shirt. Wow." Klaus said. The small force field disappeared from you and you smiled at everyone who was covered in fruits.
Vanya shyly smiled, sinking on her chair. "Oops."
Reginald placed his monocle back as Luther stared at Vanya in surprise. "That was impressive."
Allison threw off a straw and took a new one and finished her drink. Diego faced Reginald. "Look, we know that you're involved in a plot to assassinate the president."
Five shook his head as he rolled his eyes.
Reginald faced Diego who was standing up. "You were recently hospitalized, isn't that correct?" Diego shook his head. "You still appear to be suffering from delusions of grandeur and acute paranoia."
"Am I?" Diego questioned. Diego took out a picture and placed it down on the table. "Explain this."
Reginald looked down, taking the photo to examine it himself. "That's you," Diego said. "That's two days from now on the grassy knoll at the exact same spot of the president's gonna get shot."
Reginald looked up at Diego. "Well... I suppose you've solved it." He placed the picture back down. "You've single-handedly unearthed my nefarious plot. Is that what you want to hear? You fancy yourself a do-gooder? The last good man who will save us from our descent into corruption and conspiracy?"
You stared at Diego who's stand was slowly sinking, the pain visible to his face. "This is a fantastic delusion." Reginald continued. "The sad reality is that you're a desperate man, tragically unaware of his own insignificance, desperately clinging to his own ineffectual reasoning."
You watched as Diego slowly sat back down with his glassy eyes as he stared at Reginald. You opened your mouth to speak. "Hey! Heβ"
"More succinctly," Reginald interrupted. "A man in over his head."
Diego was teary-eyed. He opened his mouth to speak but he started stuttering. "Y-You're wr... wrong." Just like when he was a kid.
Everyone was quiet, looking sorry for Diego. They watched everything and saw how Diego sank back to his seat. Five sighed. "Look, forget about the president. We have a catastrophic war coming in five days. We need to figure out how to stop it."
"War?" Reginald questioned. "Men will always be at war with each other."
"No, this isn't just some war. I'm talking about doomsday. The end of the world."
"Well... you're the special ones, aren't you?"
Ben looked up, his fingers resting at the side of his head and his elbow placed at the table. Diego was huffing and glaring at Reginald.
"Why don't you band together and do something about it?" Reginald asked.
Five was speechless. Reginald couldn't help them. Ben, on the other hand, couldn't wait any longer. "All right. Screw it." Ben possessed Klaus. Klaus, all of a sudden, raised his hands up as he shook violently and choked gasps.
Everyone looked at him. "Is he having a seizure?" Allison asked.
"Overdosing probably," Diego muttered.
"Should we do something?" Luther asked.
"Klaus!" Five whispered. "Now is not the time. What are you doing?"
You were about to stand up but Klaus turned to Reginald. "I'm..."
"Out with it, boy," Reginald commanded.
Klaus gasped. "... Ben!" Klaus managed to say but he fell down on the ground, passed out. 'Ben...' You softly gasped.
Reginald looked down before clearing his throat. "Well... thank you for coming." Reginald gathered his things, standing up. "I've seen about enough."
"No, I..." Luther tried to talk but he saw Reginald taking a big step over to avoid stepping on Klaus. Luther suddenly slammed his fists on the table, stood up, ripped his shirt, and showed his body as buttons clattered on the floor. Allison choked on her drink while you almost sneezed out your drink. "Look at what you did to me," Luther exclaimed to Reginald who turned to see what was happening. "Look at it!"
You covered your mouth, softly snickering. "Geez." You wheezed out.
Five sighed and groaned, leaning back to his seat. "Oh, shit. Why?"
Reginald, who was unimpressed, looked away and turned to you and Five. "You in the culottes and the girl." You and Five suddenly turned to Reginald. He pointed outside. "A word, in private?"
Five glanced at you before standing up and following Reginald. You hesitantly stood up and dusted yourself off. "Why do I feel like I'm about to be punished in school?" You asked as you tied your hair into a ponytail before following the two men.
