CHAPTER TEN: HE'S CUTE BUT A LITTLE PSYCHO

You, Diego, and Luther, with Five in his arms, were walking down the street like you four were homeless people finding food and shelter.

You were looking pretty sleepy, getting all worked up when you were looking for the footage and looking for the landlord. But you know Five had the roughest day. He was drunk. One good reason to drink is when your day is totally the worst.

You wondered what happened a while ago and why he was so drunk. You leaned your chin on Delores' shoulder, yawning a bit. You felt a small sting on your stomach but ignored it soon.

The wound was healing a bit faster now so you didn't mind the pain sometimes. Besides, Jeanie helped you replace the bandage.

Diego looked over to you to see you slightly stumbling. "Woah, hey, easy there, (Y/n). You can have a rest at my place."

"Your place?" You asked.

"It's nearby. You guys should stay the night for a while."

"As long as there's a bed or couch, I'm good." You smiled.

You almost forgot how sweet Diego can be. Sure he's also an asshole but deep inside he still cares and sweet. Well, he's a mama's boy after all while Luther's a daddy's boy.

Now you just realized, Luther is also sweet and caring but deep inside, he can be an asshole. Just like Diego but in an opposite way.

You looked up when you heard Five burping loudly. You snickered as you caught up to Luther to walk beside him so you could see Five. "If you vomit on me..." Luther warned.

Five tilted his head up to see you. "You know what's funny? Aah! I'm going through puberty." Five looked back at Luther and scoffed at himself. "Huh. Twice."

Five chuckled. "I drank that whole bottle, didn't I?"

"Fully empty." You told him.

"That's what you do when the world you love goes bye-bye." Five waved his hand. "Poof, it's gone." The little man looked at Diego and tilted his head to the side. "What are you guys talkin' about?"

Luther sighed. "Two masked intruders attacked the Academy last night."

"They came looking for you. So I need you to focus. What do they want?" Diego added.

You widened your eyes as you almost dropped Delores. "Two masked intruders looking for Five? Don't tell me they're—"

"Hazel and Cha-Cha." Five informed. "Yeah, those guys from the mall."

"Who?" Diego turned to Five while Luther looked down at the big baby he's carrying. "You know, I hate code names."

"Ah, the best of the best. Except for me, of course."

"The best of what?"

Of course, Five, being drunk and being ignorant, changed the topic. "You know, Delores always said she hated when I drink."

You looked at Delores and cocked an eyebrow at her. "You should've stopped him." You scoffed as if the doll answered back. "Yeah, sure, you tried to stop him. You should have tried harder."

"(Y/n), are you talking to the doll?" Diego questioned in disbelief causing you to shake your head. "No. It's just me being sleepy so I do weird things." You excused.

"She said it made me surly—" Five was going to continue but Diego stopped him. "Hey!"

"Hm? Yeah?" Five smiled cheekily.

"I need you to focus. What do this Hazel and Cha-Cha want?" The little bastard's smile grew bigger, not giving any answers. Diego sighed. "We just wanna protect you."

"Protect me? I don't need your protection, Diego. Do you have any idea how many people I've killed?"

'Wait. He killed people?' You gulped. 'Not only do I have feelings for an old man in a kid's body but I have feelings for a little psycho.'

"No." Five continued. "I'm the Four frickin' Horsemen. The apocalypse is coming."

'Yeah, no, why am I weirded out by this? My family is weird, I'm weird, of course, I would be in love with a weird person.' You quickly stepped away when Five vomited behind Luther.

You and your brothers arrived at Diego's place. It was just a room, a boiler room to be exact. Looks small but kinda lovely, well, for Diego. Luther placed Five down on the bed while you sat on the chair with Delores on your lap. You placed your chin on her shoulder and leaned your head against hers as you watched Five sleep.

His hands were balled into fists and his face looks relaxed and peaceful while sleeping. You can tell he was super stressed out and started to believe the apocalypse he kept on saying.

"Funny," Diego stated. "If I didn't know he was such a prick, I'd say he looked almost adorable in his sleep."

"He is adorable." You defended, causing the two to look at you. "He's cute but a little psycho."

"You sure you're okay there?" Luther asked worriedly. "You can't fall asleep there. You can sleep beside Five—"

"No!" You jolted up, blushing madly. You quickly covered your mouth and you saw Five stirred in his sleep. You calmed down and shook your head, returning back to your seat. "Thank you, but I'm fine. I have Delores here to lean on while I sleep."

"You can fall—"

"Do not place me in bed beside Five." You said sternly, still blushing, before covering your face on Delores' neck and starting to fall asleep.

Luther looked back at Five. "He'll sober up eventually. Be back to his normal, unpleasant self."

"Yeah, I can't wait that long. I need to find out what his connection is with these lunatics before someone else dies." Diego started walking away and gathered his things.

Luther followed Diego until he looked back at Five again. "All that stuff he was saying before..."

Diego stopped for a moment when he heard a noise, ignoring Luther once again. Luther continued on to his question. "What do you think he meant by that?" Luther suddenly closed his mouth when Diego shushed him.

Diego walked up to the door with his knife and opened the door, ready to throw his knife but completely froze when he heard a voice. "You throw another one of those goddamn knives at me, I'm pressin' charges."

Diego sighed and opened his door wide open. "What do you want, Al?"

An old man walked in. "I ain't your secretary. Some lady called for you, said she needs your help."

"What lady?"

"I dunno. Some, uh, detective. I think she said her name was, uh, Blotch, or somethin'."

Diego stared at Al seriously. "Patch?" The old man shrugged while Diego smiled a bit. "She needs my help."

"She needs you to meet her at that motel, a dump on Calhoun."

Al gave Diego a piece of paper, information on where Patch is. Diego scanned it. "When?"

"About half an hour ago. Uh, said she found your brother." Al walked out of the room while you instantly shot up awake, while Diego and Luther stared at each other confused. "It's Klaus." You told them.

"Go." Luther told Diego who was already out of the room before Luther even said a word. Luther saw you going after him but he stopped you. "Hey, hey, you need rest."

"I need to help him find Klaus, Luther. He might be in danger!"

"It's gonna be alright, (Y/n). Just rest for now."

You sighed in defeat and sat back down on the chair, hugging Delores again. It felt like hours for you to fought yourself from closing your eyes but it only took you five minutes and eventually gave in, falling back asleep on Delores' shoulder.

"No!" You sobbed loudly, slamming your fists on the door, desperate to get out. "Dad, please let me out!"

"Let yourself out, Number Eight. Use your powers." Your cruel father instructed. "If you don't use your powers why bother having powers at all?"

It was your first training with your new family and the first suffering your father did to you is to lock you in a room where there's a wooden door.

Your siblings watched helplessly, Five was tapping his feet impatiently. He wanted to let you out and couldn't bear you screaming in fear anymore.

"Dad, please!" You cried, hyperventilating. "I-I can't breathe! Let me out!" You didn't know your siblings were out there just listening helplessly. It was also their first time hearing you cry for help or even to talk at all since you were a quiet kid ever since you came to the house.

You have a fear of being locked up in a room alone. Tight spaces or not, you hate being alone in a room or your own room and can't get out.

"No excuses, go on. Use your powers."

You curled up into a ball, looking around the room. You were shaking in fear, breathing heavily and fast. Five shut his eyes and stepped in front of the old Hargreeves. "Let her out."

"Number Five—"

"This is her first time. Give her a break."

Reginald sighed disappointedly and gave a nod to Pogo. Pogo nodded back and unlocked the door to see you with a horrified look in your eyes. Five was about to help you but you quickly ran away from the room, from your family, still in shock and fear. When you realized your whole new family was listening to your helpless cries especially Five, you were beyond embarrassed and had your mouth shut for a while.

Five slowly woke up and blinked a few times to figure out where he was. He moved a little until he felt something was behind him. He slowly sat up and saw you sleeping, facing against the wall. He reached out for your face, attempting to touch it but instantly took his hand back when Luther sat down on a chair. "You're awake."

"Stating the obvious." Five muttered and then turned to look back at you. "How did she...?"

"We called her when we found you at the library, looking tired already. Whatever she did yesterday or maybe the past few days must have tired her out completely." Luther explained.

"She slept beside me..."

"She actually doesn't want to. Probably not to disturb you. But I put her there since she was about to fall off the chair with your mannequin."

Five brushed his fingers against your hair as he turned back to Luther, seeing him with a lot of questions in mind. Luther took a deep breath. "When's it supposed to happen? This... apocalypse."

"I can't give you the exact hour, but... from what I could gather, we have four days left."

"Why didn't you say something sooner?" Luther asked, his voice getting higher in anger.

"Hush. You'll wake Eight up. Besides, it wouldn't have mattered if I told you."

"Of course it would. We could've banded together and helped you try to stop this thing."

"For the record, you already tried."

Luther leaned back a bit in confusion. "What do you mean?"

Five looked down, looking a bit hurt. "I found... all of you. Your bodies."

You opened your eyes, pretending to be asleep. You woke up when Five just woke up and you were glad that you were facing you back at them.

"We... die?"

"Horribly."

You clenched your fists, gulping softly. 'What a good conversation to start the day. We're gonna die horribly if we don't stop this apocalypse.'

"You were together, trying to stop whoever it was that ends the world." Five continued.

"Wait, how did you know that?"

You felt Five taking out something from his pocket which was revealed to be the fake eye. "This was clutched in your dead hand when I found you." Five tossed it to Luther who caught it. "Must've ripped it out of their head right before you went down."

Luther scanned it as he asked a question. "Whose head?"

"As I said, I don't know."

Luther turned the prosthetic eye around and found a serial number. "Well, there's a serial number on the back. Think maybe you could try—"

"No, that's a dead end." Five chuckled painfully. "It's just another hunk of glass." Luther sighed and gave the eye back to Five.

You jumped in surprise when a door suddenly opened causing Five to know you're finally awake. You sat up and found Diego marching down towards Five angrily. "Piece of shit. Do you have any idea what you just did?"

Luther quickly stood up and blocked Diego's way while you jumped out of the bed, covering Five. Luther grabbed Diego and prevented him from harming Five. "Nope, let me— get your ape hands off of me!"

You looked down to see Diego's feet were no longer on the ground. "I can do this as long as it takes you to calm down." Luther told Diego who sighed in defeat and stopped grunting. "Fine."

Luther placed Diego back down to the ground. "Now, wanna tell us what you're talking about?"

"Yeah, before murdering the little gremlin?" You added with a hand resting on your hip. Five slapped your arm with a glare. "Stop calling me that."

"Our brother's been pretty busy since he got back." Diego informed. "He was in the middle of that shootout at Griddy's, and then at Gimble Brothers, after the guys in masks attacked the Academy, looking for him."

"Huh." You gasped. You sat down beside Five and crossed your arms. "I was with him at the Gimble Brothers."

"And at Griddy's."

"What?" Your face fell in shock as Five looked at you and smiled. "Yeah you were pretty drunk." He poked your nose before turning to Diego. "Those are none of your concern."

"It is now." Diego panted in anger. "They just killed my friend."

"Who are they, Five?" Luther asked as he turned around to look at Five.

Five looked down for a bit, giving up. "They work for my former employer. A woman called The Handler. She sent them... to stop me. Then, soon as Diego's friend got in their way, well, fair game."

"And now they're my fair game." Diego hissed. "And I'm gonna see to it they pay."

You shook your head, standing up. "No, you're not going anywhere."

"That would be a mistake, Diego." Five added. "They've killed people far more dangerous than you."

"Yeah, we'll see about that." Diego slammed the door as he got out of his own room. You sighed heavily before pacing around the room, getting stressed about all this shit.

"Former employer?" Luther questioned Five. "What's this really about, Five? And don't give me any of this 'It's none of your business' crap, all right?"

"Well, it's a long story."

"Well, we have all day." You told him, crossing your arms until you looked at your watch. "Actually no, I have like a few hours or minutes but go on."

Five sighed and finally told the story of how he got recruited by his former employer, The Handler. "They turned me into the perfect instrument for the rehabilitation of the time continuum. Or 'corrections', as they called them. I wasn't the only one. There are others like me. Beings out of time, fractured, extracted from the lives that they knew. I don't know how they got there. But I do know that none of them were as good as me."

You and Luther stared at him as you waited for him to continue his story. "They didn't realize it, but I was biding my time, trying to figure out the right equation so I could get back. If I could just get back, I knew I could stop the apocalypse. Save the world."

You grabbed a plate and a cup of water, as Five looked up to the both of you and Luther. "So I broke my contract."

Then you recalled the time when you and your siblings spotted a blue energy portal in the house, even when Klaus threw a fecking fire extinguisher. You kinda wished it hit Five.

"So..." Luther spoke while you gave the plate with food and a cup of water to Five. "You were a hitman?"

"Yes." Five simply answered as he gladly took the plate and cup from you.

"Uh... I mean, you had a code, right? You didn't kill just anybody." Luther continued.

"No code. We took out anyone who messed with the timeline."

"What about innocent people?"

"Luther, that's what no code means. Innocent or not, they'll kill who dares to mess up the timeline." You explained to him, earning a nod from Five. "It was probably the only way Five could get back here."

"But that's murder." The righteous Luther complained.

"Jesus, Luther, grow up." Five rolled his eyes at his brother. "We're not kids anymore. There's no such thing as good guys or bad guys. There are just people, goin' about their lives. But when the world ends, all those people die, including our family. Time changes everything."

Your eyes widened as you almost lost your balance. "Shit."

"Shit?" Five raised an eyebrow. "What shit?"

"I have two things to do now before this end of the world thing." You quickly gathered your things. "One, finally having a clue on what the hell happened to me and probably saying goodbye to my grandfather."

Five stood up, putting the cup down. "Nico? Your grandfather? I thought he..."

"Long story but might tell you soon. Gotta go. Luther, you better take care of the little psycho. If he gets hurt, I'll kill you by myself."

"What if you get hurt?"

You stopped by the door and turned to your little psycho. "I can protect myself." You winked before closing the door, walking away from the room.
