You heard someone cooking in the kitchen, so you slowly opened your eyes. You ended up having to get out of bed when you smelled something delicious, even though you wanted to go back to sleep. When you came out of the room, Danielle was getting things prepared in the kitchen. She insisted on sleeping on the couch while lending you her room.
When you told her you didn't mind sharing the bed, Danielle freaked out and insisted that she was fine in the living room. Danielle noticed your presence and turned around to smile. "Good morning, sunshine!" She greeted gleefully. "Breakfast is about to be ready in just a few minutes."
You gave her a smile in response and went to the couch, where you sat down with Ms. Snowpeach on your thighs after picking her up. You switched on the TV and tried to find anything to watch. You've happened upon a channel that features classic sitcoms. You smiled when you saw a funny scene while running your fingers through your cat's fur.
Danielle brought the food to the table and glanced at the television. "Dick Van Dyke Show? You really are an old soul."
You chuckled. "I'm only in my 30s; I'm not that old."
Danielle stared at you as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion after hearing your statement. "You mean 20s, right?"
As you realized what you had said, you froze in place and nodded slowly. "Right. Sorry."
Danielle continued to stare at you before shaking her head. "Breakfast is ready. I prepared Ms. Snowpeach's bowl too, as well."
You scooped up your cat and put her down on the floor. Ms. Snowpeach moved over to her bowl and began feasting on her cat food. You noticed that Danielle had prepared pancakes, bacon, and eggs when you approached the table. "Aww, Dani. You didn't have to cause this much trouble."
With a quick wave of her hand, Danielle dismissed your statement. "It's nothing. You deserve a good breakfast. Besides, I've been craving pancakes for ages now." You received some pancakes from her as she took a seat next to you.
After saying "thank you," you went to get your own bacon and eggs. As you occupied yourself by smearing butter all over your pancakes, Danielle snuck a look at you and grabbed some bacon. "How'd your night go, by the way? You were gone for a long time."
Recalling the events of the previous evening made you beam a smile. "A lot of things happened," You admitted. "But then again, nothing normal comes out of the Hargreeves family."
Danielle was about to bite into her bacon when she turned to stare at you. "Hargreeves? Wait, they're related to Sir Reginald Hargreeves? The same guy who kept you locked up in his estate?"
You sheepishly smiled at her. "It's really complicated."
"That reminds me, how are you related to them when you're a Russell?"
"We're not really related. We just see each other as family," You explained as you ate your pancake. "Shared experiences, shared childhood trauma, and not to mention, we were all born on the exact same day at the exact same hour."
Danielle's jaw dropped. "Talk about some crazy coincidence. You know, the longer we became friends, the deeper I got to know about more of your life. You basically know all about mine, but you seemed to have a lot more to share about yours."
As you cut your pancake into bite-sized pieces, you cast your eyes down at the food you were eating. "And I'll tell you more at the right time and place." You looked at her and smiled. "When I know you're ready."
You took another bite out of your pancake, and Danielle just stared at you. She saw the watch around your wrist as she peeked down at your hands. Danielle has never seen you without it since the day she first laid eyes on you. And she noticed that Five was wearing the exact same model of watch when you were eventually reunited with your family yesterday.
"(Y/n)..."
"Hm?"
"Stay." Danielle clutched her utensils as she looked down at her breakfast. "Stay here with me. Forever."
You stopped chewing, and you looked at Danielle. "But I have to find a place on my own, Dani. I can't live here rent-free."
Danielle's eyebrows creased as she frowned. "I can worry about everything here; just please stay."
After you had finished chewing, you softly gulped. "Danielle..."
"Or... are you planning to move in with him?"
Your eyes slightly widened as you stared at your friend. You stayed quiet, and your silence was slowly killing Danielle. You let out a sigh. "Dani... you do know I'm in a relationship with him..."
Danielle clenched her jaw. "You... love him again?"
"Again? Dani, I never stopped."
Danielle shakily sighed. "I never had the chance." She whispered, making sure you wouldn't hear. Danielle closed her eyes briefly before standing up and feigning a smile at you. "Good to know!" She tried to sound cheery. "It's always so inspiring when people like you stay loyal, y'know."
You frowned. "Danielle, Iā"
You were abruptly interrupted by Danielle's phone ringing loudly. Danielle went over to her phone and picked it up. "Hello?"
You kept a close eye on her while she spoke on the phone. Danielle heaved out a sigh. "Fine. I'll be there in an hour." She ended the call and placed her telephone back on the table. Danielle looked over at you. "That was my boss. They told me to come by early at work."
Suddenly, there was a knock on Danielle's door. Danielle arched an eyebrow in confusion as you stared toward the door. "That can't be my boss, right?" She asked you and you gave her a shrug. Danielle opened the door and her mood turned sour when she saw Five by her doorstep. "Oh, it's you."
Five smiled bitterly at Danielle. "Didn't expect to see you here."
"I live here; that's why."
You peeked your head out to check who was at the door. You smiled and ran towards Five, attacking him with a hug. Danielle crossed her arms bitterly as Five gave you a hug in return. You pulled him away and checked him out. "What are you doing here? Are you hurt?" You asked when you noticed he looked ill.
"Are you?" Five asked worriedly as he cupped your face.
You slowly nodded. "Um, yeah?"
"Emergency family meeting." Five announced. "Real urgent."
"I-I still haven't showered." You pulled Five inside the apartment, and Danielle shut the door. "Wait here. I'll be right back. Get acquainted with Danielle and Ms. Snowpeach first." After hastily leaving the room, you headed straight to the bedroom to use the bathroom there.
Five surveyed Danielle's apartment with a skeptical eye. He stumbled upon a cat that was staring at him while he was looking around. Danielle, who was cleaning up the table, witnessed Five staring at the Persian cat. "That's (Y/n)'s cat, Ms. Snowpeach." She introduced the cat to him before taking the dishes to the sink.
Five got down on one knee, observing with caution as your cat, Ms. Snowpeach, walked toward him. "Meow." The cat circled around Five, rubbing her fur on him. Five softly chuckled and picked up your cat as he sat down on the couch. As soon as Five came in contact with your cat, his head suddenly hurt. Five groaned in pain as he felt like a harpoon had been thrown through his head.
"Why do our children want you all the time? Does Ms. Snowpeach not like me?"
"I mean, I wouldn't like it either if I was almost named Ms. Cookiebutt or Ms. Crumblepickle."
"I was trying to make it a little closer to Mr. Pennycrumb's name, okay? And Ms. Peachfuzz was also a cute name!"
Five snapped open his eyes, wrinkling his eyebrows in a perplexed expression. 'I don't remember ever having that memory.' He thought to himself.
"You okay?" When Danielle noticed that Five had been hurt, she asked out of genuine concern. "Do you need a paracetamol? I can give you one."
Five tried to soothe himself by combing his fingers through your cat's fur and shaking his head. "Um, yeah, that would be nice."
After opening a drawer, Danielle grabbed a paracetamol and handed it to Five. Five muttered a small thank you and drank the medicine and some water after Danielle had offered him one. "You're awfully nice today." He remarked.
Danielle sighed and took a seat on the couch, keeping a few feet between her and Five. "I am nice. I just got bitter when I saw you."
Five stared at Danielle. "Same. Except for the nice part. I'm not usually nice."
"I can see that."
Five scoffed softly and rolled his eyes. Danielle began to think about what to say to Five while she cast her attention to the ground. "Y'know, I could've taken her to your family. I have a car, and I can drop her off."
"I have a car too." Five replied. "Besides, there are some things I have to discuss with her on the way."
Danielle stared at Five's watch, and when she saw that it was exactly the same as yours, she had to force herself to turn away. "Look, I'm sorry about what I said before. I said it out of spite because, well, no one came to find her all these years. She was so miserable when I met her. She was even hostile and jumpy. Well, she wasn't hostile towards me, but I saw her doing it to others. I grew angry for her, and I hate to see her so sad."
Five listened as Danielle continued to talk. "I think you noticed it too, but the light in her eyes doesn't shine like they used to. I mean, I know I haven't met her before to say that, but I know those lights in her eyes. She's the best thing that ever happened to me, and she's miserable."
Five cast a quick glance down at your cat, who ended up falling asleep in his arms. Five let out a deep exhale. "She lost the light in her eyes years ago. She... lost a lot of people who are very close to her," He explained. "Does she happen to visit a cemetery?"
"She mentioned that whenever she has the chance, she does visit."
Five nodded. "Then no wonder her light hasn't come back. He's still dead here in this timeline."
"Who?"
"Nicholas Russell, her grandfather."
When they noticed and heard the bedroom door open, Danielle and Five turned their heads to face it. You came out of the room wearing a red outfit and black boots, and Five and Danielle continued to gaze at you. Their eyes caught your attention, and you began to feel self-conscious about the way you looked. "What? Too much?"
"You look stunning."
"You look breathtaking."
Five and Danielle spoke at the same time.
After blushing a little at their praise, you spotted that Ms. Snowpeach had taken some comfort in Five's warmth and buried her face against his chest. A smile crept across your face. "My cat already loves you, Five."
"I am that lovable." Five teased.
"I disagree." Danielle commented with a deadpan look.
With a grin on your face, you took Ms. Snowpeach off of Five's lap and carried her off to the bedroom. Facing Danielle and Five, you shut the door behind you. "Let's go?" You asked Five.
After giving a nod, Five brushed himself off and got up. Smiling, you turned to face Danielle. "I'll call you, okay?"
Danielle nodded and smiled. "Be careful." She looked at Five and arched an eyebrow. "Take care of her."
"I always do." Five remarked before taking your hand and heading out of her apartment.
You and Five walked into the elevator and waited for it to descend to the lobby level. You waited for the elevator patiently while Fivestared at you. Five recalled the memory that flashed before his eyes just moments earlier. "Did we meet Ms. Snowpeach in any of the past three timelines?"
You shook your head and cast a perplexed glance at Five. "No, why?"
Five gave you a long, thoughtful look before shaking his head. "Nothing. She just... looks familiar."
You chuckled. "Having some dĆ©jĆ vu, huh?" You teased before looking back at the elevator to check what floor it was.
Five's eyes assessed you, and he maintained his gaze on you. After giving it some thought, he sighed and joined you in waiting for the elevator.
