Chapter Five
🐺 The Tell 🐺

Amara walked into the back room of the video store where she worked and set a box of movies down. She sighed out of boredom before pulling her ear buds out, "Can someone help me find the Notebook?" She heard someone call out making her furrow her brows slightly.

She walked out to the main area to see Jackson glancing around making her raise her eyebrows in amusement. "You're looking for the Notebook?" She asked making him look at her, "What the hell are you doing here?" He asked and she pulled on her name tag. "I work here dumbass." She said making him roll his eyes as she walked around the front desk.

"Romance section is next to the Horror section. That placement was my idea." She said with a smirk as she walked down the aisle. Her smirk fell slightly when she caught the sent of blood making her slow to a stop as she glanced around for a moment. Jackson was about to walk past her but she held her arm out to stop him.

"What the hell is it?" He asked and she didn't say anything, just nodded at something making him follow her line of sight. Sticking out of one of the aisle was a pair of feet laying there unmoving. Amara slowly walked closer, Jackson following close behind. They made it to the aisle and slowly peeked around to see Amara's boss, dead on the floor. Blood everywhere.

Jackson staggers back and tumbles right into the ladder. It goes down, wires snapping with it as a spark flies from the light fixture. With an electric crackling, all of the lights flicker and die, plunging the store into darkness.

The sound of movement makes Amara spin around and a shelf rattles, DVD cases trembling as something largemoves behind it. "Seriously? Here? Now." She mumbled, knowing exactly what was between them and the exit.

Amara grabbed Jackson's arm and pulls him behind a shelf, him trying to steady his near-hyperventilating breaths. Amara doesn't even tempt to calm her rapid heart breath or breathing, the alpha knew where they are. Being quiet sure as hell wasn't going it change that. Slowly, Jackson peers up above the stacks of DVD's when suddenly, one of the shelves rocks forward. And then, like dominoes, they begin falling toward them, DVD's flying through the air.

Jackson grabbed Amara and moves to dart out of the way, but one of the shelves slams down on his back, pinning his body to the floor. Amara on the other hand, fell on her back making the shelves press down on her stomach making her groan. As Jackson tries to push himself up a shadow falls over them making Amara suck in a deep breath, closing her eyes.

Jackson holds still as the store becomes ominously quiet and as clawed hand reaches over the nape of his neck where the marks from when Derek punctured his skin are still visible.

The alpha let out a low growl before moving to stand above Amara making her groan as the shelves pushed harder on her stomach. She turned her head to the side as the alpha leaned down and sniffed her hair, "Amara Hale..." She heard a deep voice whisper then suddenly the alpha ran off, straight through the window of the store.

The only sound was the sounds of glass shattering and a piercing scream coming from the car. Amara opened her eyes, letting a shakey breath as what happened settled in. The alpha knows who she is.

🐺

Sheriff Stilinski drives while Stiles searches through fast food bags, "Did they forget my curly fries?" Stilinski asked. "You're not supposed to eat fries. Especially the curly ones." Stiles said making his father look at him with raised eyebrows, "I am carrying a lethal weapon. If I want the curly fries, I will have the curly fries."

"If you think getting rid of contractions in your sentences makes your argument any more legitimate, you are wrong." Stiles but before Stilinski can respond, the radio buzzes to life.

"Unit One, do you copy?"

Stiles reached out to grab the CB but Stilinski smacked his hand away and gave a look making Stiles shy away. "Unit One, copy."

"Got a report of a possible 187."

Stiles looks up after stuffing a handful of curly fries into his mouth with wide eyes, "A murder?!?"

🐺

Stilinski pulls up in front of the video shop and turns to his son, "Stay here." He said then got out of the car. Stiles sits impatiently while taking in the store's shattered window, the knocked over shelves and then noticed Lydia sitting in an ambulance, Jackson standing next to her and Amara sitting on the back of a cop car while her mother stood in front of her.

"Forensics said that your boss might have been dead for thirty minutes before you found him. Where you during that time?" Makena said and Amara sighed softly. "Our supply truck was late so I had been unloading it for the past hour." She said and her mother raised her eyebrows, "And you didn't hear anything?" She asked.

"Music." Amara said as she held up her ear buds and her mother nodded before sighing, "Why were you even at work? It's past nine." She asked and Amara shrugged slightly, "I was taking a couple extra paid hours." She said and Makena gave her a look. "You realize there's a legal limit to how long a minor student can work, right?" She asked and Amara looked at her sheepishly, "I want to get a car!... or a motorcycle. Preferably a motorcycle." She said and he mother sighed.

"Yeah, well it looks like you might need to get a new job now." Makena said, "Hey, is that a dead body?" Stiles yelled making them and the crowd of onlookers rushes forward and Stilinski throws an angry glare at his son who shrinks back. Makena glanced around for a moment before looking back at her daughter and lowering her voice.

"Is there any other things you need to tell me that isn't human related?" She asked and Amara sighed and glanced down, "Well, obviously it was the Alpha." She said and Makena nodded. "Anything else?" She asked and Amara was quiet for a moment before looking up at her mom, "The Alpha said my name. Who ever it is, they know who I am."

🐺

"Just a friendly reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences are tonight. Students below a C average are required to attend. I won't name you since the shame and self-disgust should be more than enough punishment. And has anyone seen Scott McCall?" Harris asked, looking at Stiles and Amara who sat next to eachother.

Neither of them responds and the he door opens and in comes Jackson, something
slightly off about him. Everyone watches as Harris crosses to him. "Jackson, if you need to leave early for any reason... You let me know." Harris says making Amara scoff loudly. "My boss just was murdered when I was in the other room but don't worry I'm happy as all hell." She said sarcastically making Stiles chuckle next to her while highlighting a bunch of sentences in his text book.

Harris ignored her and walked to the front of the class, "Everyone, start reading Chapter Nine. And Mr. Stilinski try putting the highlighter down between paragraphs. It's Chemistry. Not a coloring book" He said making Stiles look up at him then tilted his head back, spitting the cap out and catching it.

After a few seconds Stiles leans toward Danny who is sitting in front of him, "Danny? Can I ask you a question?" He asked. "No." Danny said as Amara glanced at them for a moment, "I'm going to anyway. Did Lydia show up in your homeroom today?" Stiles asked

"No."

"Can I ask you another question?"

"Answer still no."

"Do people know what happened to them last night?" Stiles asked making Amara look at him confused for a second, she definitely told him, "He wouldn't tell me." Danny said slowly. "But he's your best friend." Stiles said and Danny just shrugged, "One more question."

"What?!"

"Do you find me attractive?" Stiles asked making Amara look at him weird as he kept leaning forward in his seat until Amara hooked her foot around the bottom of his stool and pulling on it making him fall. He quickly and awkwardly caught himself while everyone looked at him. He turned to Amara to see her quickly laughing and he flicked her forehead.

🐺

Stiles hurries down the hall with his phone to his ear, Amara following him. "What?" Scott asked, "Finally! Are you getting any of my texts?" Stiles said dramatically. "All nine million of them." Scott said. "You have any clue what's going on? Lydia's totally M-I-A, Jackson looks like he had a time bomb inserted into his face, Amara is entirely too calm over the fact the alpha knows who she is, another random guy is dead and you need to do something about it."

"Like what?"

"Something."

"I'll deal with it later." Scott hung up making Stiles look down at his phone and sigh before looking at Amara, "Wanna come with me to check on Lydia?" He asked and she shrugged slightly.

"Sure?"

🐺

"Sweetheart, there's an Amara and Stiles is here to see you." Natalie Martin said as she opened the door to her daughter's room, letting Amara and Stiles in. "What the hell's a Stiles?" Natalie turns to Stiles with an embarrassed smile while Amara just snickered, "She's had a little something to ease her nerves. Go right in."

"Thanks." Amara said and Natalie smiled at her as she left the room, "What are you doing here?" Lydia asked as Amara and Stiles walked over to the bed. "Wanted to make sure you're okay." Amara said, sitting down next to Lydia, "Why?" Lydia asked.

"Because you didn't go to school. How are you feeling?" Amara asked and Lydia smiled and leaned closer, "I feel ffffffantastic." Lydia said making Amara sucked in a deep breath slightly while Stiles picked up the bottle of pills on Lydia's nightstand. "I bet you can't say, uh, "I saw Susie sitin' in a shoe-shine shop" ten times fast." He said and Lydia looked at him with a challenging smirk.

"I saw Shusie... I shaw... I saw..." Lydia's gaze drifts and Blake looks at her concerned, "Lydia? What did you see?" Amara asked softly. "Something..." Lydia mumbled and Amara raised her eyebrows, "Something... like a mountain lion?" She asked and Lydia nodded.

"A mountain lion..."

"Are you sure you saw a mountain lion, or are you just saying that because that's what the police told you?"

"A mountain lion..." Lydia answers again making Stiles and Amara glance at each other. Stiles reached over and grabbed a stuffed animal off of Lydia's nightstand, "Lydia, what this?" He asked and Lydia looked at it, "A mountain lion."

"Oh, you're so high." Amara muttered and Lydia rested her head in Amara's lap making her eyes widen as she looked at Stiles. "Having gay panic?" Stiles asked and Amara nodded, "Uh, huh." She said before looking down at Lydia whose eyes have fluttered close. "I guess we should leave and let you get back to the whole post traumatic stress thing." Stiles said, noticing it too.

"No, stay." Lydia muttered making Amara raise her eyebrows, "You want us to stay?" She asked and Lydia nodded looking up at her. "Yes. Please, stay. Please, Jackson." Lydia said before falling back onto the bed, "That is the most offensive thing someone has ever called me..." Amara mumbled.

Lydia's phone buzzed on the night stand making Stiles look at it, "You want me to get that?" Stiles asked and grabbed Lydia's phone, "It's a text. I don't know how to- Holy shit. Amara look at this." He said and Amara stood up and looked down at the phone.

On the phone was a video of a dark shape hurtles through the store front
window. Stiles hits pause. Breath caught in his throat, he zooms-in to a perfectly captured image of a nightmare. Standing there on two feet, a dark and monstrous silhouette with glowing red eyes.

The Alpha.

🐺

"I'm gonna preference this by saying that everything Mr. Harris says, is a lie." Amara said as she and her mom pulled up to the school, "Uh huh." Makena said, giving her daughter a look. "I'm serious! That man hates me for no reason. I'm this close to pulling the homophobic card." Amara said and Makena rolled her eyes, "Just because someone is a little bit rude to you doesnt necessarily mean they're homophobic." She said and Amara scoffed.

"Well, I disagree."

A little while later Amara and Makena were walking out of the school, along with other parents and students. "Amara, it's not like you just talked back to him. You literally put a broken, rotten egg in his briefcase." Makena said and Amara's eyes widen, "That wasn't me!" She said dramatically and her mother gave her a look and pointed at her slightly.

"Oh don't even try that on me. That is exactly what your father and Derek taught you when you were younger." Makena said before she started looking in her bag for her keys. "Oh god." Amara mumbled making Makena followed her line if sight to see Melissa walking up to Argent and Victoria. "What? Why 'oh god'?" Makena said and Amara chuckled, "Scott and Allison skipped school today together." Amara said and Makena nodded.

"Excuse me, you're not Allison's parents, are you?" Melissa asked making them look at her, "I'm Scott's mom, and I hate to say it, but he's not answering his phone, either." She said and Argent raised his eyebrows.
"You're his mother?" Argent asked making Melissa scoff lightly, "Funny how you say that like it's an accusation..." She said and he shrugged slightly.

"Well, I wouldn't claim it as a source of pride, since he basically kidnapped my daughter today." He said and Melissa raised her eyebrows, "How do we know skipping school wasn't your daughter's idea?" She asked. "My daughter-" He went to say but noticed something behind her, "...Is right there." He sighed before the three of them walked over to Scott and Allison who just got out of the car.

"This is gonna be so funny." Amara muttered making her mother slightly nudge her while she chuckled quietly.

"Where exactly have you been?" Melissa asked as she walked up to Scott and Allison, "Nowhere, Mom." Scott said and Melissa scoffed. "Nowhere... meaning not school?" She asked and Scott nodded sheepishly, "Kinda..." He trailed off.

"It's not his fault. It's my birthday, and we were-" Allison tried to defend her boyfriend but her father cut her off, "Allison. In the car." He said but before anyone could do anything someone suddenly screamed making Amara and Makena glance around as pandemonium breaks loose

Amara furrows her brows as she walked forward, glancing around as something large and fast darts through the parked cars. People move, trying to avoid it, there’s shouts, a scream and cars swerve and honk as a shape races through the lot.

Amara stopped and listened for a moment as she could hears the pounding of padded paws on concrete. Her eyes flashed her golden yellow-firey red mix as she looked around before seeing amidst the ground of people, the orange outline of an animal. She furrowed her brows in confusion as Makena walked up to her.

"Is it the Alpha?" She asked and Amara shook her head, "No, I can't tell what it is but it's way too small. It's just a normal animal." She asked as she glanced around. A few feet away from them Stilinski was about to run behind a car which had just started making Amara's eyes widen.

She quickly shot out, grabbing the back of his jack and pulling him back before the car could fully hit him. All the happen was the car bumped his hip slightly. "Are you okay, Noah?" Makena asked as she ran over and Stilinski sighed in relief before nodded, "I'm okay." He said then looked at Amara.

"Thanks, Mara." He said and she nodded before all of the sudden a couple gun shots rang throughout the parking lot making them look over. Amara quickly walked through the crowd to find Argent standing in the middle, slowly lowing his gun.

Scott and Amara catch each other's eyes as they walk forward, both of them standing on either side of Argent. In front of them laid of dead mountain lion making Amara sigh as she glanced back at her mother for a moment before her and Scott glanced at each other again.
