- CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED-ONE -
Amara, who's hair was now cut above her shoulders, was leaning against a wall of a building, sunglasses covering her eyes, pretending to be on her phone as she watched someone across the street. She was hired to investigate someone and watch what they do.
"So who are we watching?" Someone suddenly asked, making Amara jump slightly, turning to see fifteen-year-old Ximena Acosta standing next to her. "Ximena! God damn it. What the hell are you doing here?" Amara asked and Ximena shrugged slightly, "Being an extra pair of eyes for you. So who is it? That guy?" Ximena asked, pointing at someone, making Amara roll her eyes.
"You're supposed to be at school." Amara said and the teen girl just raised an eyebrow, "Are you telling me you've never skipped school?" Ximena asked. "I admittedly skipped school a lot but that's different. If you skipping becomes a problem, Scott and I could get in trouble." Amara said and Ximena sighed softly.
"You're my Alpha. Aren't I supposed to learn things from you?" Ximena asked and Amara gave her a look, "Supernatural things. Not private investigator things." Amara said. She looked back over towards the person she was watching only to see them nowhere in sight.
Amara sighed deeply, giving Ximena a scolding look, making Ximena smile sheepishly. "Sorry." Ximena said before Amara's phone went off, making her sigh, giving Ximena another look before looking down to see Scott calling her.

Deaton stood outside of a building in LA that had collapsed, police, firefighters and paramedics walking around, their cars not far away. "You said it wouldn't bite." A firefighter said, holding his hand as he walked over to Deaton. "I said it wouldn't bite me. But that's also because I wouldn't put my hand in front of the mouth of a frightened dog." He said before walking away.
"Thanks for the advice." The man said, following behind Deaton, "You got any idea how we're going to get it out of there?" He asked. "I have a couple people coming who have a special talent for these kind of things." Deaton said, looking back at the man, "One of them runs the animal shelter next to my clinic, the other helps out. Trust me, they're highly qualified. We even have a nickname for one of them." Deaton said.
"Oh, yeah? What?" The man asked, "We call them 'The Alphas'." Deaton said, looking back as a car pulled up. A moment later Scott and Amara stepped out of the car, closing the doors behind them with Ximena getting out from the back seat.
"The girl climbed out, tried to pull it out, lost her footing, and ended up falling in too." Deaton said as they walked through the building, "Is that all you got?" The fireman asked, looking at the leash in Scott's hand. "No protective gear? No gloves?" He asked and Scott shook his head, "I don't get bit. Even if I did, I usually heal pretty fast. Amara too." Scott said and Amara nodded slightly.
"Same here... In case you guys need some extra help." Ximena said, raising her hand slightly, making Amara give her a look. "You're grounded from helping." She said, making Ximena pout slightly.
"Well, even so..." Deaton said as they crouched down next to a hole in the ground where a dog was barking and a little girl was laying on the ground. "No! He's gonna bite!" The girl yelled, "Hey, there. My name is Scott and this is my friend Amara. We're going to help get you guys out of here." Scott said.
Some of the concrete started to crack and shift making the girl scream before Scott dumped down, Amara following. The dog kept barking at them but couldn't get any closer to them as his leash was trapped under debris. Scott slowly looked up at the dog, his eyes glowing a bright red and the dog barked a couple of times before stopping and laying down.
The little girl looked from her dog to Scott in shock as Amara moved over to the girl. All of a sudden, more of the structure started to break and fall. "Scott, Amara, hurry! Come on! Get out of there!"
Scott glanced around and grabbed a pipe that started to fall down into the hole, before helping Amara move a slab of concrete off of the girl's legs. Scott quickly grabbed the dog and lifted him out of the hole while Amara helped the girl up. "Hold onto me." Amara said and the little girl quickly and tightly wrapped her arms around Amara's shoulder.
The walls around them started to fall, making Amara duck down slightly as Scott quickly grabbed the walls while the girl screamed. Amara looked up at Scott and nodded slightly, making sure the girl wasn't facing Scott as he transformed, pushing against the walls. "Okay, come on." Amara said, lifting the girl up slightly, "Come on, Alicia." The fireman said as he and Deatom reached down for her.
"I got you." He said as they and Amara helped her climb out. Scott pushed the walls away as Amara grabbed Deaton and Ximena's hands and climbed out of the hole. A moment later, before it could all collapse more, Scott jumped out of the hole. "That was close." Scott said, making Amara chuckle and roll her eyes.
A moment later they all walked out of the building and Alicia immediately ran over to her parents, who quickly pulled her into a hug. Scott, who was holding the dog leash, along with Amara and Ximena walked over to the family and Amara gently grabbed Alicia's shoulder. "Hey, Alicia? You guys? Let's go see the paramedics, okay?" She said and they nodded before they led them over to an ambulance.
"What do you guys call them again?" The firefighter asked, looking at Deaton, "The Alphas." Deaton said and the man nodded. "Right, like a dog." He said and Deatom shook his head, "No, like a wolf." He said and the man raised his eyebrows. "Both of them? I thought there was normally just one Alpha" He asked and Deaton nodded, "Normally but they're different."

Scott flipped the sign of the animal clinic's door to close right as a motorcycle pulled up with Amara and Ximena on it from finishing Amara's work from earlier. Ximena climbed off as Scott opened the door for them before the dogs from the shelter suddenly started breaking.
Amara took her helmet off and looked up before freezing when she saw Allison leaning forward next to her.
"Okay, pull back with your left hand. Kick down to put it in gear. Front brake. Throttle. Back brake for stopping." Allison said, showing Amara everything she was talking about while Amara just stared at her in shock.
"Quiet!" Scott yelled, making the dogs stop barking and snapping Amara out of her trance. Amara blinked rapidly for a moment as Ximena gently grabbed her arms, looking at her worriedly. Amara looked at Ximena before looking back at Allison, only to see her slowly disappear.
"It happened again, didn't it?" Ximena asked and Amara cleared her throat awkwardly, "Yeah." She said before getting off the bike, walking into the clinic, ignoring both Scott and Ximena's concerned looks.
As they walked away from the door, dogs started barking again before they looked up to see a flashing red light over a hole in the wall. The three of them glanced at each other confused as they walked around the cages while thunder flashed outside. Scott glanced around, not noticing as thunder illuminated Argent until Argent suddenly stepped out, holding a gun pointed at them.
"Oh! Jesus!" Scott said as Amara quickly moved Ximena behind her before realizing it was Argent. "Dude, what the hell? I know you and my mom got a divorce but damn, I didn't think you'd go this low afterwards." Amara said, hugging Argent, "Shit, dude. You know you could just use the front door, right?" Scott asked as Amara stepped back, letting Scott hug Argent.
"I never use the front door. Especially when it's not safe." Argent said as they pulled away. "Who says it's not safe?" Deaton asked and Amara looked at Argent who had this sort of panicked look on his face. "You're seeing her too." Argent said, looking at Amara, who stared at him for a moment.

"I mean, I've dreamt about her. You know, now and then over the years I've had images flicker in front of my eyes like blurry photos." Argent said as Scott set out a cup of coffee in front of him as the five of them sat in the examination room.
"And then, two weeks ago, something changed. Those random images flickering through my head got clearer. I saw flashes of her crying out, silently screaming in pain, in agony. She was suffering." Argent explained.
"Allison..." Amara said, "But I started seeing her face more and more. And then I started hearing her voice. And I can hear somebody whispering to me." Argent said and Scott furrowed his brows. "Whispering what?" He asked, "One word, and only one. I hear it every time I go to sleep and every time I wake up, and I only wake up from nightmares." Argent said. "What word?" Deaton asked but Argent wasn't the one who answered.
"Bardo." Amara and Scott both said, making them look at each other as Argent stood up. "Uh- I- I- uh... I was on the phone the other day and I was writing down a client's number. But instead of the number, I wrote that." Scott said, pointing at something, making Argent look over at a white board to see "bardo" written on it.
"Scott, Amara, do you know what bardo is?" Argent asked, looking at him and Scott nodded, "A state between life and death." He said and Amara nodded. "It's where I went when Theo killed Scott... it's where I saw Allison..." Amara said in a slight whisper.
"I keep getting hallucinations of her. Memories of her playing out as if I was there in that moment again..." She said and Argent pointed at her and Scott. "Both of us are seeing her. We're all speaking the same word. It's not just a dream. Allison is caught between life and death." Argent said and Deaton shook his head.
"It's not that simple." He said, making them look at him, "Bardo is a Tibetan word. It means interpreting death and the movements of consciousness between physical states of being. It's just a word. It's a concept." Deaton said. "Well, this fucking concept is waking me up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, telling me my daughter is still out there!" Argent said.
"She can't be. I mean, she- she died in my arms. I felt her slip away from me." Amara said while shaking her head slightly. "I know we all die. I'm not pretending to know what happens next. But if there was something after this life, some next step, I don't think she made it. And I think she's trying to tell us she never crossed over." Argent said.
"It's been fifteen years." Scott said and Ximena raised her hand slightly, "Let's say we accept all this. What can we actually do to help?" She asked, making Argent look at her. "Who is she?" He asked and Amara shook her head, "She's a stray, my beta. Ignore her, but answer her question." Amara said and Argent sighed softly while Ximena gave Amara a look.
"There's a- a- a ritual of some kind. I know a few details. I got a feeling the real answers are in Beacon Hills." He said, looking over at Scott and Amara.
"Okay. What else can you say for certain?" Deaton asked as he sat back, "It has to be done by the next full moon. And if it's not, we don't get another chance." Argent said and Deaton shook his head slightly. "I'm not sure. And I'll admit, I'm a little scared. We're talking about dangerous rituals, thousands of years old. There's going to be repercussions." Deaton said and Amara shrugged slightly, "Wouldn't be the first time we did a dangerous ritual." She said.
"So can somebody just say one thing? Are we doing this or not?" Scott asked, glancing around at everyone, "Well, the message was for you, Scott. It's yours to answer." Deaton said. "It's more than a message." Argent said as he walked over to the table, pulling out a black case he brought. He unlocked it and pushed the lid open to reveal a sword of an Oni.
"This is the sword that killed her. Her blood stained the blade." Argent said and Amara took a deep breath, looking away from the sword. "We haven't been to Beacon Hills in a long time." He said and Argent walked over to him, "None of us have." He said.
"But if you and Amara drive out tomorrow, I can meet you there by afternoon." Argent said and Deaton stood up, "You're gonna need more help." He said and Amara nodded. "And more answers." She said and Scott nodded slightly, "Yeah, I'm gonna need to find some old friends." He said, looking over at Amara who nodded slightly.
