"There will never be a time when I'm safe from them."
HB

1756

Hayden knew he shouldn't stay long on the farm. There was too much of a risk that he'd be caught by the Mikaelson's. But how could he say no to Robin?

It was morning now, and three days after he originally said he was leaving. Hayden didn't want to see the tears running down Robin's face that were caused by him. He didn't want to see her when he left.

He knew it was only a matter of time until he was caught and taken back to the family of monsters he so desperately wanted to get away from.

Hayden had heard rumors throughout his escape. Voices telling others of how the Mikaelson's were on a rampage through the world now looking for the lost son.
Although it warmed his heart that he was known as the lost son, Hayden wanted nothing to do with them. Not anymore.

How could they make him choose between his first love and them? They were supposed to let him fall in love with the young witch and be happy for him. Because that's what family is supposed to do.

"Hayden!" The vampire looked up from his seat on the bench by the property lake.

The sun was on his face warming him, the breeze in the air making his hair fly around crazily. He waved lazily at the girl who skipped over to the seat next to him.

"Why weren't you there for breakfast?"

Hayden shrugged, "Not hungry."

"You've been avoiding me since last night."

"If I We're avoiding you I wouldn't be talking to you this very moment Robin Bell."

Robin huffed while crossing her arms over her chest firmly. She glared at the side of Hayden's laid back face, frowning because she knew he was going to leave soon.

"At least tell me when you're going to leave. It's a common curtesy you know."

Hayden huffed out a laugh, "You sure are one unique little thing Miss Bell."

The two shared a knowing look, because both knew the outcome of this relationship. The relationship that had room to blossom if it weren't for Niklaus hunting down Hayden.

"When?"

Hayden let his eyes fall from her face and onto the ground where he could actually glare.

"Tonight. Or a dawn. I'm not sure yet."

Robin let a tear fall from her eye, bottom lip trembling slightly.

"O- Okay."

Hayden couldn't take it. How could he sit there and break her heart? How could he let go of the girl he could see himself with for ages?
For over two hundred years he'd been sulking. And no matter how many woman he bed none of them could make him feel so much in so little time.

"Come with me."

Robin blinked over at the vampire, completely shocked.

"What?"

Hayden sighed, "Come. With. Me."

Robin wanted to say yes, scream it out from her chest that she would follow him anywhere. But then she thought about her aunt, and the baby that would soon come.
How could she dare leave her family when they needed her the most? A new baby in the house would be no joke, and her aunt would be drained of her magic after birth.

"I- I- But my aunt... And my family."

Hayden only nodded, slumping back in the bench.

"That's why I didn't ask. I already knew the answer."

The untapped magic inside Robin made her want to go with him. She felt drawn to him since the moment her eyes landed on him. There was no denying the two shared a connection.

Hayden shifted in his seat until he was facing the girl, cupping her cheek with one hand, and his other holding out a ring he'd found over a hundred years ago.

"I want you to have it."

Robin stared down at the gold ring embellished with a single diamond and carvings. She stared at it quizzically until he chuckled lowly.

"It's spelled that whoever wears this ring will be protected in the face of supernatural danger. If you die with this ring on you'll come back as long as it was a supernatural doing."

Robin shook her head, "If I take it it means you're leaving Hayden. I don't want it."

Hayden shook his head with a small smile, his face growing closer to hers until his lips met hers in a soft yet passionate kiss.
Their lips moved together in sync, Robin too distracted to feel Hayden slip the ring on her right hand.

The vampire pulled away after a few moments of relishing the feeling of her lips on his, his eyes staring into hers and straight into her soul.

"One day. Hopefully, we will meet again. In another life when you're not in hiding and free to roam as you please."

Robin nodded with unshed tears, not knowing what more there was to say. Because like it or not, he was leaving.

And she didn't know if she could bring herself to leave with him.

Moments with Hayden were cherished for Robin. She sat with him all day so she could have the memory of him engraved in her mind.

Her aunt could feel the pull between the two, and the way that neither wanted to leave the other. She wanted so badly for her niece to be happy and loved. But in the world they lived in it would be hard for them.

How many men could Hayden fight off at once? Robin's magic was still untapped so she couldn't truly defend herself yet, but with years of practice she might.

That night Mercy found herself in her niece's bedroom, wiping away the tears on her face as her reality. Hayden was already packed and was getting ready for departure in the setting sun.

"Robin... You'll be okay."

Robin shook her head, "I want him to stay aunt Mercy."

Mercy sighed, knowing how much Robin wanted to stay, and how much she wanted to leave. There was only one thing Mercy could do, and she decided it was best for her and her family.

At least she hoped it was.

"Go."

Robin sat up quickly, "What?"

"Go, Robin. Go with him. He's only ever done good by us. I trust him... To take care of you."

Robin smiled widely at her aunt, jumping off of her bed to run out, but reminded herself she needed clothes and such.

Mercy held up a hand at her niece, walking just outside the door and coming back in with an already packed bag of essentials for her niece.

"How did you-?"

"I just knew. Now, you take care of yourself." She hugged her niece tightly, having a gut feeling it would be the last time she ever saw her, "And love with all you have my girl. Because it doesn't come so easily like this."

Robin nodded, bringing her aunt in another tight hug, and then pulling away to run out of the house.

Hayden had just hopped on the saddle of the horse, and tried to keep himself from looking back at the house. But he did, he looked back just once more to hopefully see Robin staring down at him through her second floor window.
Instead, he saw her running toward him with the biggest grin he'd ever seen before on her face. Her hair whipped in the wind, mostly flying in back of her as she ran toward him. Her dress pressed against her legs as she ran, trying her best to not let it slow her down.

"Robin?"

Hayden couldn't believe his eyes when the girl stopped short of his horse. He raised a brow, looking back at the house where Mercy stood on the porch with a sad smile.

"Why are you here? I thought you didn't want to see me leave?"

Robin only smiled up at him, placing her bag inside the saddlebag on the horse.

"I'm coming with you Hayden Bentley."

The vampire grinned with surprise, holding out his hand so he could pull her up onto the horse. She strategically hopped on, leg over the saddle and arms wrapped tightly around the vampire's waist.

"Are you sure Robin?"

She kissed his cheek.

"More than ever before."

And off they went.

"You could've at least put on some pants Ric."

"Even I put on pants."

Dorian snickered at the playful banter between the tribrid, vampire and headmaster. Alaric groaned annoyed, "It's extremely early. You're lucky I'm up."

Hope laughed along with her boyfriend, their hands joined together as they walked toward the trap Hope set for any new monster they would get. The closer they got Hayden let go of his girlfriend's hand in case they had to fight a monster.

When the trap came into view they saw the back of a horse, causing Alaric to lower his weapon along with Dorian.

"False alarm. It's just a horse."

The three men stopped ten feet from the trap, already waving it off as a stray horse. Hope continued until she was in front of the trap, and gasped as she saw an all white horse turn around.

It turns out the horse was a unicorn.

"Uh guys, this isn't a horse."

Alaric turned first with bulging eyes at the fact that there was indeed, a unicorn teen feet in front of him.

"A deadly unicorn!"

The three turned to look at Dorian who was ready to shoot the unicorn dead in the face.

"What? No! It's a unicorn! Harmless! It can't even get out of the trap so leave it alone."

Alaric nodded at Dorian to lower his weapon, and with a heavy breath he did.

"Of all my years... A unicorn. That's bloody amazing!"

Hope had never heard Hayden's accent so thick before, and smiled as he shyly looked away from the tribrid.

"Okay well. If that's all. Let's get back to bed."

Dorian and Alaric talked softly between one another as they walked back to the school, leaving the couple behind in front of the trap.

"You never let your accent out like that..." Hayden blushed, "It was cute."

The vampire shook his head at his girlfriend, pulling at her hand to lead her back to her room for her much needed rest.

Hope woke up that morning feeling entirely different than usual. She felt happy, and content with life. Like there was nothing that could bring her down.

Beside her woke her sleeping boyfriend, who also felt like his mind was rewired into something totally different.

They got up, both smiling brighter than normal, and got ready for their days with a lot more pep than usual.

"You look ravishing Hope."

Hope giggled at his once again thick accent, beaming in the early morning compliments.

She wore her regular school uniform, like everyday, but for some reason this day felt different. Hope felt like her uniform was cleaner than usual, fit better than before.

Hayden could feel her light opening a path in his once dark mind. He put a baby blue button up on that day, one that he hadn't touched since the last wedding he attended.
For some reason it felt right wearing something other than he usual black or maroon colored button ups. He even switched out his usual black pants for a pair of indigo blue jeans.

The normal pair of black leather shoes became a pair of brown ones, the look reminding him of his days in the 60's when he dressed such ways.

"You look too handsome to be my boyfriend Mr. Bentley."

Hayden shook his head softly at the girl he loved, "I will never match your beauty Miss Mikaelson."

The couple would've usually never been as outward with their corniness, but for some reason it felt right to them. It felt perfect showing their love for one another so openly.

"Let's get you to your first class of the day love."

Hope nodded, letting her vampire take her hand in his and lead her down the stairs of her dorm hallway and to her classroom where he dropped her off.
He pecked her lips at the door, Hope getting strange looks from her best friend and best friend's brother. Hayden simply waved at Dahlia and Bellamy before turned and left.

Hayden passed the Saltzman twins with a brightening smile, waving at them.

Lizzie sighed heavily, looking down at the spelled bracelet on her wrist that would keep her from going after a certain vampire.

"It's a new leaf Josie."

Josie nodded in agreement, "A new leaf."

"No thinking about going back to ex girlfriends while in a happy relationship with a certain emo looking-" zap "Landon! And no thinking about breaking up the tribrid and Hayden."

Josie pat her sister on the shoulder, nodding for affirmation of their new lives as new people.

"Exactly. We should probably get to class too."

The twins turned on their heels to walk to class, but was stopped at a certain curly haired boy who stared into Josie's eyes.

"Hey. I uh- Thought I'd walk you to class."

Josie grinned at the boy, "I'd really like that Landon."

"And me too! Don't leave me out guys."

Landon nodded nervously, taking his girlfriend by the hand and leading her down the hall to the class they both shared.
It was one of the only classes they shared seeing as it was a normal math class. Landon held the door for both twins, Josie looking at her boyfriend in adoration.

The school speaker interrupted Josie as she was about to thank her boyfriend, her father's voice guiding its way into her ears.

"Good morning students. It seems our year gets better with a new monster found early this morning. Due to this monster we will be postponing the talent show for... A long time. Thank you."

The speaker cut out while the students around Josie all groaned. Many students were actually excited for this years talent show, and now that it was cancelled all of their hard work was as well.

Hope Mikaelson sat beside her best friend who looked at her like she was crazy. Her best friend was acting strange that day, and even her brother noticed it.
Bellamy leaned over to whisper to his sister, "What's up with Mikaelson?" Dahlia shrugged at her brother before she too saw the day in a new light.

"Aren't you just so happy Bell?"

Bellamy raised a brow at his sister, pulling back from her airspace. Both girls now looked at each other with side grins, then back at Bellamy.

"Why don't you be happy with us Bell?" As Dahlia touched her brother's shoulder lightly he felt his tense shoulder droop and his mind clear of any negative thoughts he was having before.

"I... Wow. We should have lunch. A nice... Cold... Lemonade and a turkey sandwich. Sounds good, doesn't it?"

Both witches nodded, getting up as the bell signaling the end of class sounded. All three of them had no other class for the next hour, and made their way to the common rooms.
Lunch wasn't there yet, so they all sat in the library of the common rooms. Hope talked lowly with her best friend, stopping as Rafael found himself standing in front of them.

"H- Hey. Dahlia, I wanted to um- Talk?"

Dahlia stood up with happiness, grabbing his arm and pulling him away from her brother and best friend. Bellamy simply shrugged while getting up from his seat and making his way to the girl he had a massive crush on.

Hope left her seat in the library to go find her boyfriend, who happened to be looking for her as well and bumped into her head on when she was distracted.

"Babe, I was looking for you."

Before Hayden could tell the shorter girl in front of him how he was looking for her as well, the school speaker pushed Alaric's voice throughout the air once again.

"Hello again students. I've decided we'll continue on with the talent show seeing as the dangerous monster is currently contained."

Students around the couple cheered with excitement at the fact that there would be a talent show after all. Hope looked up at her boyfriend.

"Let's do a talent together."

Hayden pulled back slightly to look at her face fully, "If that's what you wish my love."

Hope pulled the vampire into a hug grinning up at him. He ran his fingers through her wavy hair, kissing the top of her head as he did so.

"What do you want to do?"

Hope shrugged, "What are you good at?"

Hayden smirked, pulling her flush against his body, "I'm good at many things..."

Hope's cheeks flushed pink as she looked down from his eyes, sticking out her tongue.

"Yes, but what are we both good at?"

"Again, many things."

Hope playfully punched her boyfriend's chest before placing her face on his chest to hide her raging blush.
Hayden loved that he was the only one who could get such a reaction from the tribrid, and relished in that fact.

The tribrid decided she wanted to decorate cakes for their talent, and drug her boyfriend all the way into the kitchen to begin.

When the cake was nearly finished Hope turned to her boyfriend, who was already looking at her. The two felt something shift in their minds, like a forgotten name on the tip of their tongues.

"We should get that urn and get out of here."

Hayden nodded in agreement, "I can give you a tour of the world like I've always planned."

In that moment the timer for the cake went off, but neither baker went to take it out of the oven. It wasn't until Landon found himself walking into the kitchen for an afternoon snack that he smelled the burning cake.

"Guys! Something's burning!"

Landon raced to the oven, not even seeing the green eyes staring at him from both Hope and Hayden.
They held smirks on their faces, now that the child of Malivore was there, they would take him with them to deliver the urn.

"We're going on a vacation, want to come with us?"

Landon turned halfway to look at Hope who had asked the question, "Can you help me get this cake out first?"

Hope nodded, reaching into the oven to retrieve the cake, and accidentally shocked herself in the process.
The tribrid jumped back from the electric shock, a plump purple insect shooting from her nose and into the table beside the now burnt cake.

Hayden looked at Hope in worry, but was soon replaced by the parasite in his mind telling him to grab the Malivore child and run.

"What the hell!"

Landon quickly went into action and squished the insect with a nearby plate, lightly gagging by the giant splat! sound.

"That was in your ear." Landon turned to look at Hayden, "And by the looks of it, it's still inside your boyfriend too."

Hope neared her boyfriend, realizing the shock from the oven was what made the parasite leave her body. She slowly walked forward until she was in front of Hayden, who looked right through her and to the curly haired boy behind her.

"We're going on a vacation Landon, would you like to accompany us?"

Hope now cupped the cheeks of Hayden, getting him to look at her. His eyes were glazed over, like it wasn't really even him who was there, which in a way it wasn't.

"I'm sorry."

Hayden huffed, looking back up at Landon, "We're going on a vacatio-"

"Pulsa."

Immediately a shock ran through Hayden's body, causing a parasite to exit his nose as one did Hope's, landing on the ground near them. Hayden moved first, squishing it beneath his shoe and grimacing.

"That's disgusting."

Hope and Landon nodded their heads.

"What was that?"

The three looked at each other, "Either of you ever see Wrath of Khan?"
