no soldiers were coming in so all the nurses took the time for a little break. as i was snooping around to see what they were up to, most of them were writing letters to family members or friends, some that caught my eye were the ones with the word goodbye written on it made me feel confused.
even ashlyn had one with the word goodbye on it, i couldn't help but just become nosy and ask her.
"hey ash, why'd you write goodbye on your letter?" i questioned while scanning through her written words.
"what if i die before i can send out another letter? they ship your stuff back to your spouse or family after you die, i insist you try writing one yourself." she suggested, "or are you not comfortable with that?"
"no no, you're write actually, maybe i should start on my letter." i sighed before walking away.
when i sat in my bed all blank minded, i couldn't think of a single word to write to soda. usually it was going great for me when i writing to him but saying goodbye for good never crossed my mind.
the nurses stood up to grab a quick lunch but i sat alone in the tent still thinking of what i should write down besides "dear soda". it angered me to where i almost ended up pulling out my hair, the stress was eating me alive but that was where i found myself going crazy over a letter.
"everything alright?" i heard someone ask, it was ashlyn.
"oh it's going great, just never thought of saying goodbye." i shook my head with a forced smile.
"you'll get there, claire, trust me." she placed her hand on top of mine, "it took me awhile to write one to my husband i soon came around and did it."
i sat there blandly.
"you gotta do it before it's too late, honey." ashlyn says before exiting.

ponyboy wasn't himself lately, he became more distant from darry and i, he still has his scars from the night he got jumped. ponyboy even turned down johnny and dally every time they ask to hangout, usually he takes the offer to get out of the house for a while.
darry was at work but i had the day off, i was in charge of watching pony until darry came home because we all knew that pony wouldn't be going anywhere. most of the time that we were home, pony hid himself in his room.
i was trying to find something to eat in the fridge now that it was close to dinner. darry would be coming home in a few minutes or so.
"pony, ya want anything to eat?" i loudly asked from the kitchen.
"no!" he screamed, i found that odd.
darry came home as soon as pony shouted that, i can tell that infuriated him when the front door slammed. i still flinched even though i knew that would happen, it's darry, you expect the least from him.
"the hell you shouting in my house for, pony?!" he questioned when he swung pony's door open.
"why do you care?!" pony spat.
i walk over to the bedroom to butt in.
"pone, if there's something you want to say then just say it." i calmly said.
"glad you said, soda. i'm done being fucking left alone ever since you've been all butt hurt by claire leaving!" pony started, my jaw instantly dropped. "it's like everyday i hear you talk about claire, claire this, claire that, claire everything!"
"it's like ever since you've been with her, you started to fade away from me!" pony broke.
i didn't know what to say really, darry was as shocked as i was.
"i just want my brother back."
