Summary: The aftermath of Home Alone 2
Words: 1.6k words
I didn't know if I should've been happy or upset when I discovered that Marv and his friend Harry had escaped prison close to Christmas. It's been exactly a year since Marv had gone to prison for breaking into that one kid's house last Christmas, instead of staying home with me like he should've been. I was even more surprised when I discovered that both of them were arrested again for going after that same kid... all the way in New fucking York. They sent him and his friend to a prison that wasn't too far off from my house, so I decided to give him a taste of my own medicine. At the same time I couldn't believe that he went after that damn kid instead of coming back to me, causing me to go another Christmas without him. "Where are you going?" Dad asked as I snatched my car keys off of the dining room table, "Marv was arrested again." I threw my bag over my shoulder, "Marv? Modesta, it's been a year. Get over him." Dad sighed. A long loud groan escaped my lips, just as my hand met the cold door knob of the front door. "I have TRIED to meet someone new, you know that." I responded. But I was already outside before he could say anything else to me. I slammed my car door closed and sped down the icy street, my hands gripping tightly onto the steering wheel while anger coursed through my veins.
I parked at the prison and stormed inside as a few other visitors seemed shocked from my unexpected entrance. "Ma'am, calm down." An officer stopped me in my tracks, "Are you here to visit someone?" He asked while I stared angrily up at him, "Yes, Marv Muchins." I crossed my arms. He nodded and motioned me to follow him to where the visitors room was located, "We'll send him out, just wait here." He said as I sat down in front of the glass wall separating me from the other room. I laid my bag in my lap, sighing deeply. "Who are you visiting?" A female voice from next to me asked, "My boyfriend." I looked towards her, "Same, mine was arrested for armed robbery." She said while I nodded in response, "Yeah, yeah, mine was arrested for robbing a toy store and chasing a goddamn 10 year old boy." I groaned from embarrassment. By the look on her face after I said that, I could automatically tell that she was weirded out. The door across from me opened and there he was, Marv, who I haven't seen since last year. At this exact moment I couldn't tell if I was angry or just happy to see him again. I could tell that he looked just as happy by the way his eyes lighted up once they landed on me. He grabbed the phone while I did the same, "Modesta! I thought you forgot about me." The sound of his voice alone made me feel all warm inside, "I didn't, and you have some explaining to do." I leaned my elbow on the table as I spoke. "I'm sorry, it was just that Harry convinced me to." He complained, "How much is your bail?" I suddenly asked. Marv's facial expression quickly changed once I asked that, a now shocked look on his face. "What?" He asked slowly, "You heard me." I leaned towards the window. "You're gonna be in here even longer." I said. Marv sat there in thought before turning back towards one of the officers guarding the room, then motioned one of them over before asking them the same question as I did. "Uhmmm... about somewhere around 5 grand. Jeez, even I can't count that high..." He mumbled the last part, causing a slight giggle to escape my lips. "Okay, I'm gonna bail you out. Just give me a few days, kay?" I looked into his blue eyes for any kind of approval, "Yes! Wait, what about Harry?" He asked me. I sighed knowing that Harry was his best friend, but then again it would be more likely that he would get into trouble again if Harry was with him. "I don't know, it might cost too much for the both of you." I looked down at my lap, "Oh... okay." The sadness in his voice hurt me to my core.
An officer landed his shoulder on Marv's shoulder, causing him to turn around. "Sorry, time's up. Bye, I uhhh... love you." The sound of those words from his mouth brought back so many memories. "I love you too, bye." I smiled before he hung up the phone, then one of the officers led him outside the room. I left the prison with a smile plastered onto my face, until I got home and Dad saw how happy I looked. "How'd it go?" He was in the kitchen putting the leftovers from Christmas dinner into the fridge. "Marv's gonna be spending New Years with us!" I cheered, "WHAT!?" He dropped the plate he was holding, shattering it onto the tile floor. "His bail is 5 grand, I don't care." I turned and left to go back to my room.
Soon the time came and I found myself driving to the prison. I called them just before I left and told them I'd be there with the money in just 30 minutes. My heart fluttered wildly at the very thought of actually being able to see Marv in person without being blocked by some window. Plus I got to at least spend New Years with him, not as good as Christmas, but at least it's something. I skipped inside the prison. Then I just had to sit and wait for Marv, and I knew that everything led to this moment. Any second now and Marv would be walking through those doors. Just as I said that, the doors swung open and out walked Marv with two police officers. My face lit up with pure joy, springing out of my seat, I ran towards him and pulled him into a tight embrace. People around us watched the whole rรฉunion unfold, but it felt like nobody was watching at the same time. "I promise I won't try to rob a toy store again." Marv looked into my eyes, "Good, because I'm gonna make sure you don't." I responded. Later I drove him back home where my very displeased Dad was waiting, most likely disappointed that I spent $5000 just to bail out Marv. But I didn't really care because all that money was worth it, to at least get to spend New Years with him. "Soo... what happened to your face?" I looked at him from the passenger seat, "Oh, uh, a kid threw about 4 bricks at my head." He answered very casually, "What?" I slowly turned my head towards him. "Yeah." He smiled at the shocked expression on my face, "No wonder your acting more stupid." I said before turning onto the street where my house was located. "W-What? I never even noticed." Marv laughed while I soon joined him. I turned into the driveway and noticed Dad peeking out the front facing window. Then I realized that last year I had bought presents for Marv, and he never got them because he was arrested and in prison for Christmas. I stepped out into the cold air with Marv, then suddenly he stood close to me, causing his body warmth to be transferred to me. "I wanna make sure this New Year is amazing, just to make it up to you." He said to me, I smiled at him as I stepped onto the porch. "Next Christmas you really have to make it up to me." I opened the front door and stepped inside the warmth of my home. "Did you really bring him home?" Dad stood with his arms crossed, "Are you kidding me? We've been over this." I groaned in annoyance at his behavior. "Hey, uh... Mr... damnit I forgot your last name." Marv mumbled, looking down at the hardwood floor awkwardly. "See?" Dad asked, "What does that even prove? He's been in prison the last 9 months." I dropped my hands to my side.
I grabbed Marv's hand and pulled him past Dad, and straight down the hallway to my room. "I'm sorry about him." I said before letting him in my room, "That's fine, sweetheart." He smiled before kicking his shoes aside. Soon he climbed into bed beside me, something we both haven't done in almost a year. It felt nice to finally have Marv beside me after so long. Then I looked at my alarm clock beside me, noticing it was close to 12 am, which means it was almost the new year. I noticed him more focused on the polaroid photos of him hanging up on my wall, something I never wanted to take down even after he was arrested last Christmas. "Babe." I whispered to him, his response was to look down at me with his icy blue eyes, "Yeah?' His face was inches away from mine. "Happy New Years." Before he could respond, my lips were already connected to his. I felt the all too familiar feeling of his mustache tickling my upper lip, something I've always loved whenever we used to kiss. "Thank you." He whispered, "You're welcome." I leaned my head in the crook of his neck.
