Chocolates? No. Sweets? No he has the complete opposite of a sweet tooth. A variation of coffee shots? But I wouldn't be happy with that. A new watch? Nah, he's got plenty, pretty sure he's got enough for a different one everyday of the year. "For crying out loud I'm so dumb!" My cries attract the attention of a certain smug sharpshooter.
"I could of told you that" he snickers under his breath. Fortunately I still heard. When I look around I see him looking into the same glass window as I am, it was a jewellers shop. Dozens upon dozens of earrings, bracelets, necklaces and jewels dazzled ones eyes as they strolled by. This business franchise was a favourite of my fathers as it used high quality metals and gems to create the most beautiful accessory items you could ever lay your eyes upon.
"Now now Tobio haven't you bullied me enough this week?" Truth be told it's only Wednesday. I've been lucky to still be sane after three days of dealing with his crap.
He walks over and flicks my forehead causing my legs to stumble back a few steps as I rub the sore spot. "Got anywhere with a gift idea yet?" His question sets me off into my sulking mood again.
"No...I can't think of anything!" I flail my arms around and he just watches me. Unamused.
"What about some coffee shots? He always up and working after all" does this man know how we can be on the same wavelength sometimes? Or does he genuinely think I have the brain size of a pea? Scratch that. Stupid question of course he'd use that as an opportunity to insult me again.
"I literally thought of that but I don't wanna just get him some object that he'll end up using within two days. I want to get him something with sentimental value...that says 'thanks for being there for me after mum died even though I'm a pain in the ass you still stuck around'!" Kageyama couldn't believe that I just exposed myself like that. Hey, at least I recognise that I can be extremely agitating and annoying at times. Unlike some who are unaware.
He sighs before running a hand through his what seems to be silky smooth hair. Would he let me touch it? "You took the words right out of my mouth..." he chuckles and then looks back into the shop display. Scanning the items with his finger he stops when he comes across two rings. "Hey what about these?"
I step to the left so that I can see them clearly but I was slightly concerned. "Rings? I don't wanna propose to him you ass!" What is wrong with him?!
He stops my hand from hitting the back of his head by grabbing my wrist, "I know dumbass! Ever heard of friendship rings?"
My arm goes limp at this question. "Why would I want a friendship ring for my dad?"
"They're used to portray a strong bond between two people so I thought you might like the idea of that, since you and your dad are so close and all..." he lowered his head as if he felt stupid for bringing up the idea but not that he's explained it more. I can see where he is coming from.
"That..." Kageyama braces himself for what I'm about to say. "Is actually a really good idea and it would be a nice sentiment!" With excitement glowing in my eyes, I run into the store and purchase those exact two rings I saw in the window. When I come out with the bag resting on my forearm I strut past Kageyama after giving him a light peck on the cheek as a 'thank you'. He stood there flustered for a few seconds before shaking his head and spinning on his heel to follow behind me.
Man I'm hungry.

"That really hit the spot!" I chime while rubbing circles on my stomach after swallowing the last piece of my sunomono (Japanese cucumber salad). I loved to have this as a midday snack as it was healthy and always keeps me going till me,my father and a few of his most trusted sit around a large table to have a feast.
"You're such a fat ass..." Kageyama chuckles from the other side of the table as he places down his chopsticks. He had ordered and eaten vegetable tempura which sounded revolting but looked extremely appetising when he dipped it in the sauce made with dashi, soy sauce, mirin and sugar tentsuyu.
Huffing, I place the amount needed for both our meals and grab my bags. Once again walking off without him. Much to his dismay.
We continued our journey through the packed mall. Oh yeah you're probably all confused as to why we are still looking around even after I managed to find a birthday present for my dad. Well since the gala is on Friday which is two days away I am still in need of a dress soooo...
"Here we are! My favourite boutique!" I stand proud in front of the black marble store with elements of gold and silver adding to the luxurious atmosphere created by just glancing into the window. Walking in was even better. The scent of fresh roses and cinnamon hits you like a flash of lightening. Fast, unexpected and the after effects are long lasting, wait that was a weird way to describe it. Meh, it'll do!
Now what colour? Red? No I wore that last year. Purple? Hmm nah not really my colour. Pink? Erm yeah no way, I'm not some damsel in distress looking for someone to sweep me off my feet. Well I mean if they're my type then maybeeee- No stop it! My thoughts were shattered to pieces when a familiar voice cheers my name. "Y/n!!" A store worker appears out of no where with their arms wide open and a huge grin on their face. I recognise that voice anywhere.
Preparing myself for the tackling I'm about to receive I take a deep breath to return their excitement. "Beau!!" We share a brief hug before he goes on a rant about some miserable customers he's had to put up with lately but I always find myself drowning away in his relaxing french accent. Beau Roberts, a tall beautiful french brunette with glowing green eyes and freckles dabbled across the bridge of his nose. We had met two years ago when I had a minor altercation with another woman in the store over a dress. I've grown up since then though minus the sulking, pouting and whining I pretty much act my age! Me and Beau bonded when he scared the woman away and his method of doing so is unknown to me still to this day.
"Mon Chรฉri you look as beautiful as ever but what is this I see here?" He points to my forehead and I have a hunch about what he's about to go off on me about. "A zit?! Darling no no! How could you disgrace your family name by leaving the house in such a state?!" He's always so overdramatic.
"It's not just the spot that makes her look like a mess..." Kageyama had now returned once again when I was being ridiculed for something. I side eye him.
"you have really great timing ya know?" He smirks as Beau tries to pop the spot only for me to swat his hand away.
"My 'Y/n is being insulted' senses were tingling so I got here as quick as I could" he nudges my arm with an eyebrow raised. Jerk.
Before I can fight back Beau pulls me away and once we are hidden behind a rack of formal shirts. His hands hold me in place by gripping my shoulders with a near bruising force. "Who is that absolute drop dead gorgeous man that walked up beside us in this very store?!" He had a gleam in his eyes from pure excitement and curiosity. Oh yeah I forgot to mention Beau has a certain liking for those of the same sex. Not that it matters because it doesn't make him any less of a human being.
"Drop dead gorgeous? Honey you should've gone to specsavers..." Disgust was evident on my face from my contracted pupils and raised lip corner, as well as a scrunched up nose.
"Chรฉri I will smack you with a pair of glasses if you do not reveal the identity of that man to me" Was this how he scared that woman off? Cause holy shit he's terrifying!
Not wanting to get my ass whooped I give in. "Fine, fine...his name is Kageyama Tobio he is otherwise known as the annoying sharpshooter who has it out for me for no reason. There, happy?!" I choke at the end due to not being able to breath whilst describing my raven haired friend. Well...at least I hope he sees me as his friend. I see him as mine nonetheless. I've got no choice really he lives in the same place as me and I see him nearly twenty four seven.
"Thank you darling~ mwah, mwah!" He air kisses both my cheeks before swaying his hips over to Kageyama, making me laugh in the process.
After regaining my composure and straightening out my clothes again, I walk back to where Beau is now leaning up against Kageyama. Blatantly flirting with the clearly unimpressed man. Kageyama looks towards me and mouths 'please help'. Should I? I feel like being nice today so why not? "Hey Beauuuu?" He released Kags and stumbles over to my 'cute' form. Eyes sparkling with tears threatening to fall, bottom lip out and quivering and finally fingers fidgeting with each other. He could never resist a customer in need.
"Mon amour what is the issue? No no please do not cry!" He always went into a panicked frenzy whenever someone was about to cry. Not because he didn't know how to handle a situation like the one at hand but because he too would end up balling his eyes out as well. Now I just need to put on a dramatic act that will guarantee his attention staying away from Kags. Ah! Got it!
"W-well you see..." I stutter and speak between fake sniffles. "As you know my fathers ball i-is in a few days and I still have n-no dress to wear!" By the end of the sentence the back of one hand was against my forehead and the other flailing about in the air. I'm very good at putting on 'performances' as some may say as I've had a lot of free time and during that time I have been very, very bored. The number of sitcoms and drama shows I watched is unbelievable. Crying on command is now added to my list of many talents! Not that I had any before, actually I kinda suck at everything I do. Even drawing a straight line with a ruler is a complicated task for me.
The look of pure and utter shock on Beau's face is priceless and totally worth acting like a drama Queen. More so than usual anyway. "Oh dear oh dear, that simply will not do! You must come with me now!" Where are we back in the Victorian times? Why in the world is he speaking- it's Beau...need I say more?
He wraps his slender hand around my wrist and drags me to a far corner in the store where a large shiny and polished red door was with pillars wrapped in gold foil stood beside it. There was a plaque on the front with gold writing that stated: 'V.I.P Customers only'. Oh wow he means business. Beau only ever takes a customer into this room when it's a 'fashion emergency', as he says. Only the most expensive and highest quality dresses and suits made it into the back room. All the finest materials and gems were used to create the hidden mysteries that were out on display to anyone and everyone who had permission to step inside of that door. "Welcome to my favourite part of the store" he sings before turning the handle and opening the abnormally large door, I had only been inside once but it wasn't for me it was for my mother. On my mother and fathers ten year wedding anniversary she had planned a huge surprise for him and wanted the most extravagant dress that anyone could ever lay their eyes on. And sure enough she did. She had chosen a black mermaid dress with two thin straps that sat on her shoulders, it was thin waisted but puffed out a bit at the hips to then lead down to a small trail. From her chest to the floor of her feet were sequins and gems arranged in specific patterns to suit the figure of anyone who wore it. But from the side of the hips was just plain black material that also fell to the floor and acted as a cloak for the dazzling section of the dress. My mother used this to her advantage and walked into the room with the front of the dress covered until she reached where my father was standing and when she was there she released her grip to reveal the dazzling design on the clothing item. She looked beautiful, gorgeous, mesmerising and I wanted to do the same. I wanted to stand out from the crowd and to portray my unique character to those who assume who I am just because of my upbringing.
And when we were fully in the room I was awestruck. After being nearly blinded by the hundreds of thousand of jewels and gems my pupils adjusted to allow me the view of hundred of absolutely astonishing dresses. Of course there were plenty of suits too but my eyes weren't focused on those. Although there were many on display there was one that caught my eye and it just so happened to be one of the few on a mannequin towards the centre of the room. "Beau..." I nudge his arm without removing my gaze from the dress.
"Yes?"
"That one there..." I raise my hand and point my index finger at it. "Could I please have that one there?"
It was similar to my mother's dress in the fact that it was black and had a distinct pattern of sequins and gems on the front that could be hidden by plain black material around it, but there were some differences. For one, it didn't have straps instead it was off the shoulder with one sleeve on the right arm. The arm too had a pattern on it as well as some of the plain back material that hugged the waist and hips of the mannequin. It was just so perfect to me and it reminded me of all the good times I had spent with my mother before her passing.
"Of course Mon Chรฉri let me just go grab Annie and we'll get you all measured up!" He claps his hands in excitement before trotting off to find another employee. Kageyama had just walked into the room and had bumped into Beau on his way out but he just brushed off the interaction as he walked to stand by my side.
"This the one huh?" His tone was neutral, he didn't seem to have an issue with my choice.
"Yes, this is it...this is..."
"The dress"
