Parvati woke from a deep sleep, nearly falling from the top bunk of her dorm at Mumbhattan Visions Academy. She peeked down to see if her dormmate Saarika was still asleep, before taking out the Scientist's watch hidden in her mattress. It had been switched off the past few days, so she shoved it back into its hiding spot, making a mental note to take it out on Friday when she had to go home so that the cleaners wouldn't find it.
Jumping down (and nearly collapsing because her legs were waking up), Parvati stretched, hearing her bones crack and pop, before taking out her school uniform and heading into the bathroom to take a shower and freshen up.
After coming out, she fixed her tie in the mirror as Saarika woke up, looking around groggily.
'Parvati', she mumbled, 'What time is it...'
'7:30', Parvati replied, before nearly choking at how tight she'd tied her tie.
'Too early,' Saarika yawned, before flopping back down into bed.
'Arey,' Parvati walked over and pulled back the blanket off the girl's body, 'Wake up. We have an extra half an hour for a Physics lesson, so school's starting at 8 instead of 8:30.'
'Why? What am I gonna do with Physics later in life,' the girl groaned, 'I want to be a doctor, not some mad scientist.'
'If you have any complaints, you'd wanna go and take them to the Headmaster. Right now...' Parvati folded the blanket neatly at one end, 'You gotta get in the shower.'
Saarika stand up and rubs her eyes, looking out the window, 'Do you know why the lesson is starting earlier? Like, there is no need to cut off sleeping hours... they could've just extended school hours instead,' she took a swig from her water bottle on the desk.'
'Welcome to Mumbhattan Visions Academy! Proprietors of cutting off student sleep hours.'
After heading out of her dorm, Parvati was multitasking by fixing the collar of her blazer and making sure the books in her hands don't slip as she made her way towards the Physics classroom, dodging both younger and older students with hurried apologies. She was just rounding the corner when she bumped into Pavitr. Thankfully she saved her books from falling.
'Hey hey hey,' he looked concerned, 'You alright?'
Parvati looked over at him, balancing her glasses on top of the books, 'Yeah I'm fine. My collar's just being annoying.'
Pavitr turned her around and gently fixed her collar, 'You could've asked someone.'
'We're getting late though.'
He smiled, 'You worry too much.'
'And you don't worry enough. That's why I do some of your worrying for you. Now come!'
Parvati pushed on Pavitr's back, trying to make him move, but he wouldn't budge. He gave her a small smile and shoved his hands in his trouser pockets as she used her strength to only make him move an inch.
'Why aren't you moving?' she whined, propping her books on her hip, 'I don't want us getting a detention.'
Pavitr smiled a little wider, shaking his head before taking half her books in his hands and walking with her, 'Alright miss, no detention then.'
'Why are you acting so weird?' Parvati arched her back a bit to stretch.
'Why are you asking so many questions?'
'Why not?'
Pavitr didn't reply for a bit. She noticed that he shook the sleeve of his blazer over the strange watch-band thing he wore. He looked sleep-deprived, and a hint of dark circles were beginning to show under his eyes. His hair was messy and his clothes looked haphazard, as though they had spent the night balled up on the floor of his dormitory.
'I- I'm just stressed,' he finally replied quietly, 'I have this chemistry essay due next week and a shit-ton of other assignments and personal problems...' he trailed off.
Parvati suddenly remembered what she'd found out on the apartment rooftop a few weeks ago: Pavitr was Spiderman, so it was evident what he meant by "personal problems". She moved closer so that their shoulders touched, 'Wanna tell me about it? Do you need help in anything?'
'No... it's okay. You wouldn't understand and I can't tell.'
'You know I am here for you, right?'
'I know,' Pavitr leaned his head on top of hers.
Parvati blushed but couldn't help the smile that had formed on her face. He felt all comfy and warm. She could sense a smile coming from him as well and suddenly felt very safe and loved.
They reach their physics class in a hastily put together class auditorium. Parvati placed her abysmal stack of books under the table, stretching out her aching arms and hanging her blazer on her chair. Pavitr lazed into the chair beside her, taking his pencil case out and throwing it onto the desk. He throws back his head, yawning.
Students file in slowly and sleepily as they take their positions at their desks. The teacher then walks in briskly before switching on the projector that lit up the wall opposite, flashing a video which she quickly paused before beginning to explain.
Parvati zoned out on spinning her pen while Pavitr beside her diligently took notes. As she watched him, she realised that there was something so sweet about him being all attentive and watching his hands form words on the page. He tucked the long part of his hair behind his ear, making her chuckle slightly.
Pavitr looked up, 'Found your pen boring so now you've decided to zone out on me?'
'Yes I guess,' she smiled slightly, 'You're very zone-able.'
'Mhm,' he smiled, a small blush staining his cheeks, 'Well, you can keep looking. I didn't spend half an hour this morning styling my hair for nothing!'
'It's looks good,' grinned Parvati, nearly dropping her pen onto the floor.
Pavitr leans over and catches it before it hits the floor, before leaning back and tucking the pen on top of her ear. He grinned just as the teacher shouted for the entire class's attention, which they reluctantly gave.
'You lot are going to fail abysmally if you don't pay attention!' she practically cried, 'I want you taking notes.'
Parvati took out her Physics textbook and looked at Pavitr, blushing slightly. She had a feeling that the teacher may had directed that at specifically the two of them. Pavitr also had a smirk and a mischievous looking expression on his face as he tried to not laugh, focusing on the teacher.
'Today we are going to be learning about Alchemax,' the teacher walked to the back of the classroom, her heels clicking on the wooden floor beneath them, 'And how they're using Super-Colliders to revolutionise everything: inter-dimensional travel.'
