bby don't cry

Location: Excavation Site 64, Meuse, Lorraine, France.

(Origins)

(Y/n) gripped the large gash beneath her shirt; blood oozing out of the wound made by a single zombie. She slumped against Generator 6 with shaking breaths. Not a single comrade were nearby. If only she had stayed alongside her team... The girl knew that she would bleed to death if she did not find help soon, but moving the slightest caused pain to strike right through her.

Her face showed pure agony. She could feel the blood beneath her fingertips. Her mind slowly became a blur and her legs eventually gave way, causing her to fall to the floor with force. As hard as it was, (Y/n) held back a shrieking scream.

Eye lids drooping and limbs becoming weaker, her mind was clouding with darkness. The sound of her name being called echoed through her head, but she was unable to locate who shouted for her. Soon enough, she heard the calling again, this time it was right in front of her, yet she was blinded by blackness.

She gave in to the darkness that consumed her mind...

--

Dempsey, (Y/n)'s unknown saviour, happened to be the one calling out and rushing towards her. With frantic movements, he had scooped her up bridal style and carried her towards his team mates.

As he trudged through the thickening mud, (Y/n)'s frail body lie limp in his arms. Dempsey's heart raced, he was worried and scared for her survival.

With aching arms, Dempsey carried on. He called for a nearby comrade, but not a single one heard. He grew worried for not only the girl in his arms but also the rest of their little group.

His searching ceased once he caught sight of the Doctor. Immediately, Richtofen rushed to the (Y/n)'s' aid. The German took (Y/n) out of his arms and carried her to a quiet area, where he would tend to her injuries. Before disappearing, he ordered Dempsey to stay and defend them from the hordes, to which he obeyed.

--

The hordes never came. He had nothing to occupy his mind with. Instead, he wandered the area, sometimes even passing through the same places multiple times.

Hours seemed to drag, only making his worry grow stronger. He pleaded for her not to leave the world so soon. Her personality was so bright in their world of darkness, but upon noticing the wound on (Y/n)'s waist, and the waterfall of blood flooding from it, chances of survival seemed slim.

Dempsey made his was towards Generator 1 and happened to see his German counterpart emerge from the doorway with his head bowed.

"Doc!" He called, picking up his pace a little.

Instantly, Richtofen perked up, and before he could say a word, Dempsey spoke up.

"How is she?" He asked with fear.

Sighing, he replied, "Don't worry yourself, Dempsey. She's fine."

With that, Richtofen carried on his way, but before he was out of sight he turned and called out to Dempsey.

"Oh, Dempsey. (Y/n) may have a little something she would like to tell you." He spoke with a smirk on his face, leaving Dempsey confused.

(Y/n) perched atop a lone table, her hands in her lap as she twiddled with her thumbs. She closed her eyes and breathed a sigh. The sound of footsteps filled her ears. She turned her head towards the stairs, the footsteps growing louder. Suddenly, Dempsey appeared from the stairwell with a small and cute smile on his face.

"Hey." He spoke, his voice sounding soft.

(Y/n)'s face blossomed with a pink hue as she smiled in response. Dempsey grinned, noticing how flustered she was. He moved to stand in front of her with his arms resting on the table either side of her.

The American glanced down at her wound, seeing nothing but blood staining her shirt.

"How are you holding up?" He asked, his eyes motioning to the patch of blood.

(Y/n)'s smile faltered and her gaze fell to the floor.

Dempsey put a finger under her chin and lifted her head. His eyes, beaming with colour, gazed into (Y/n)'s very own.

"I'm just fine, Dempsey." She replied.

While (Y/n) made small glances to the man in front of her, Dempsey had his eyes roaming over her being. His eyes landed on her lips. He felt himself edging closer to the girl, wanting to do nothing but kiss her. But each time he grew near, he pulled away.

(Y/n) hardly noticed; her gaze being locked to everything else except Dempsey.

"So," (Y/n) jumped at the sound of his voice, causing him to chuckle lightly. "Someone told me you had a little something you wanted to talk about." Dempsey spoke with a huge grin on his face.

(Y/n)'s face grew red. "That German can't keep a fucking secret." She mumbled and averted her gaze once more.

"I think I already know what you're going to say." Dempsey teased and immediately (Y/n) stared at him wide-eyed.

"Y-you do?" She stuttered. The American nodded in response.

Dempsey let the distance between them grow shorter and without hesitating, (Y/n) threw her arms around his neck and smashed her lips against his. Dempsey was taken back by this, but soon melted into the kiss. They pulled apart. (Y/n) looked him in the eye with a huge smile on her face, earning the same in return.

"Well that was unexpected." Dempsey said.

(Y/n) rolled her eyes playfully and grabbed his face with both hands, planting small kisses all over him. Dempsey pulled away with little laughs.

"Why're you so fucking cute?" He said as he wrapped his arms around her.

(Y/n) giggled. "I don't know. Why're you so fucking hot?"

Dempsey pulled away from their embrace slightly, only to smirk at the girl. She gazed at him with half-lidded eyes.

"Thanks for helping me back there. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it." She spoke.

"Don't worry about it. I was just looking out for you." Dempsey smiled.

His smile faded as his gaze fell to the floor. "I don't think I could live with myself if it were worse."

"Oh, hey. Don't be upset. I'm fine aren't I?" (Y/n) reached up and cupped his face with one hand, tracing feather-light circles on his cheek. She could have sworn that his eyes were tear-filled.

There was silence. Not even sounds of zombies were heard. Dempsey remained looking down. Every so often his eyes would shut tight, as if holding back tears that dared to fall.

"Hey..." She dragged out. "Dempsey?" She tried to tilt his head up a little, but he only stared down.

(Y/n) asked softly. "Dempsey, can you look at me? Please?"

Dempsey raised his head only a little, occasionally glancing at her. (Y/n) pulled him in for a loving embrace, to which he gladly accepted. His head rested on her shoulder and his arms hugged her back.

The pair stayed in a content silence for some time.

"You alright?" (Y/n) spoke.

The girl pulled back slightly, with Dempsey still clinging to her, but soon he pulled back enough to see her face. His late reply was simply a nod.

Her eyes showed pure worry. "You sure?"

"Yeah." He half-smiled.

(Y/n) hopped off the table and immediately kissed the American. He kissed back, making the passion grow. The girl smiled, hoping to get one in return. Dempsey could not resist a tiny grin.

"We'll fight side by side, back to back, even if it's for the last time." (Y/n) spoke.
