This man has got your back.

Location: Kino Der Toten

With her head rested on his shoulder, she let out a giggle as he gave a small chuckle. Their legs dangled over the stages' edge; (Y/n)'s swinging back and forth gently. While the hordes had died down some time ago, the little crew decided that it would be a good time to catch up on sleep. (Y/n) and Dempsey were assigned watch duty for the night, while Takeo, Richtofen, and Nikolai slept peacefully. Not that (Y/n) was bothered with staying alert, but her comrade was not too pleased about it.

They both filled the air with laughs and jokes to pass the time, but it wasn't until (Y/n) went quiet and smiled no more. Dempsey immediately grew concerned, worried even, so he turned to face her as she kept her eyes fixated to the corpse covered ground beneath their dangling legs.

(Y/n) rested her hands in her lap, twiddling with her fingers as she did so. A sad sigh escaped her lips.

Dempsey tilted his head to the side slightly and spoke.

"Something wrong?" He questioned.

(Y/n) perked up and faced the American. "Everything's fine." She replied with a small, fake, smile.

Dempsey shifted his eyes elsewhere before looking back at the girl. "Something's bugging you. What is it?" He asked.

"Do you think we'll ever make it home? Or is this our life now?" She blurted out.

Tank was lost for words; he simply didn't know the answer. (Y/n) kept her eyes on the floor, not wanting to make eye contact with the man next to her. Hesitantly, the American placed a hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder, startling her for a moment.

"I mean, not that there is much of the world left to go back to, but, do you think that one day the zombies will just... go?" She breathed.

Dempsey sighed, trying his hardest to think of an answer. "(Y/n), I don't know. I think you're over thinking things right now." He awkwardly replied.

The girl nodded a little. "Maybe I am. But I just have one thing I need to say." She said.

With furrowed brows, Tank looked at (Y/n) in confusion.

(Y/n) turned her body around to face Dempsey. She looked at him and smiled kindly. Tank felt his cheeks warm with a pink hue now making its way there. He heard (Y/n) giggle at his obvious blushing, making him fluster even more.

"Dempsey, I- I love you. I have for a while now." She confessed.

Before Tank could think twice, he smashed his lips onto hers. (Y/n) melted into the sweet kiss, wrapping her arms around him as she did so. Dempsey pulled her close, not wanting to let her go. After what seemed like a lifetime, they broke away panting, yet kept their eyes locked together. They smiled at one another before connecting lips once again.

"Oh god, I love you." Dempsey said with a bright smile plastered on his face.

For the rest of the night, the pair held each other in a gentle embrace, merely laughing as the night passed them by.
