"one hour before closing time, fellas! now make sure that all of your things are with 'ya before leavin' the building!"

a guy with an elated, goofy-ish voice announced through the comms speakers.

you saw how all of the adults and children around you began to pack up their things. some kids even started bawling their eyes out for leaving already as their parents - desperately - drag them away and out of the room. you could only sit back with a smug expression on your face, feeling lucky and superior that you get to stay behind much longer than the rest of the children who were with you in the same room.

yes, that's right, little (y/n). you were nothing like them at all.

"why, you seemed to be in a deep thought, little buddy!", a voice you knew very well suddenly spoke up behind you. you turn around to see huggy walking up to you with a crying kid behind him, their small hands reaching out to him as their parent carries them in their arms. huggy looked over his shoulder before giving them a wave of his hand.

""i'll see you soon, mavriel! don't cry!"

"huggy! i don't wanna leave yet!

noooooooooo! mama, let go of me!"

you watched the whole scene unfold in front of you as huggy visibly winces as mavriel's cries grew louder than before, their wails echoing around you before slowly fading away as their mom walks down the hall and finally out of the room.

once the room is now empty with you and huggy as the only ones remaining, you couldn't help but let a giggle escape from your lips.

huggy returns his attention over to you once he heard your little chortle, his smile widening when he sees your small frame running up to him. and in a perfect timing, he sweeps you up in the air with his hands and in his arms, and you not even being surprised at the bare strength he possesses despite being made of only cotton and polyester strings. he then gave you both a little spin, earning a delighted chuckle from you before he carefully settles you on top of a huge block with the big letter 'U' on it.

you sat down on the block, your small legs swinging back and forth at the edge as you watch the tall mascot in front of you sitting down on his pedestal just right in front of you. now, you can see each one another eye to eye without you struggling to look up at his whole, massive frame.

for a 7 year-old like yourself, it's understandable that that would certainly be a struggle. huggy wouldn't want you to strain yourself or worse, accidentally break your neck in half - perhaps, if that's even possible. still, huggy won't risk it -

"now, aren't you feeling a little lucky that you get to stay behind with me unlike those kids?", he egged on, purposely teasing you as your legs came into an abrupt halt.

wait, how did he find out?

"it's obvious, little (y/n). i saw how you were looking all so smug at those poor kids back there just a few minutes ago!", he chuckles, his shoulders slightly bouncing as he did so. if he got some eyebrows, one of them would be raising at you right now as huggy coyly smiles at you.

you then gave him a tight smile as you squeezed your eyes shut then shaking your head side to side, "i wasn't thinking that. you're just making up lies!", you responded to him to defend yourself from your own embarrassment, but your flustered cheeks says so otherwise.

"how coud i be the one who's lying when i'm only stating out the truth? or maybe, you're the one who's lying!"

"am not!"

"yes you are."

"am not!"

"oh, yes you are!"

"ha! am not!"

"(y/n)?"

you two both stopped at your silly banters when your mother suddenly came into the room, eyes tired with her hair tied up in a messy bun, she still managed to throw a warm and gentle smile to huggy's direction once she sees him present in the room, while huggy gave a curt nod in return with the corners of his lips lifting up a little more.

"i'm guessing that (y/n) didn't even left this room once since this morning?", your mother asked huggy with a playful smirk visible on her lips as her eyes flickered to yours as she approaches him, a hand raising up to brush against his yellow hand while the other lowers his hand down, letting her pet his hand as a chuckle emits from him,

"yes, that is correct, mrs. (l/n). i would always wonder why little (y/n) never seems to get tired of me. should i be worried?"

"it's because you're my favorite, huggy! i thought that's already obvious? i like playing with you all day! and hey, i did left! uh . . . for bathroom breaks.", you giggled.

your mother's smile didn't falter one bit as she speaks, "mhmm, you heard her.", she chuckled before continuing, "unfortunately, today is yet another day that has to end with you tucked underneath the sheets of your bed. you heard mr.speakers over there, didn't you?", she asked you, head turning over to you as you feel disappointed all of a sudden, the bright smile you had on your face slowly falling apart when you realized what she meant.

and you swear this is the worst part of your day whenever you would get to hang-out with huggy.

it's time to go home as well,

just like those other kids . . .

you quickly brought your legs up to stand but then only to be lifted off of your butt and brought down to the ground by huggy, himself. he looks down at you as he gave you a gentle pat on the head, "mrs.(l/n) is right, little buddy. it is time to go home.", he says before placing both of his hands behind him while flashing you that huge, infamous smile of his as he bends down just a little while your mother took your hand,

"i will see you again soon!
isn't that right, mrs. (l/n)?"

your mother nodded in agreement as you felt her thumb brushing against the skin of your hand, as if to reassure you that you don't have to get all sad about leaving huggy wuggy behind again. but how can't you?when in reality, you won't be able to see him for a couple of days, which feels unbearably long for you.

"of course! before she knew it, she'll be back here again just to play and spend time with you. so, (y/n) dear, can you say 'goodbye' to hu-"

"no!"

you broke away from her hold before making a run for it, not looking back as you ran away from the two startled figures behind you. your mother almost jumped out of her skin in surprise while huggy could only watch your small frame waddle away with your little legs.

"(y/n) (l/n), get back here this instant!"

you on the other hand, had a mischievous and triumphant smile on your face as you ran down the hall, completely ignoring your mother's warning as you turned in different directions around the hallways, the thought of a possibility of getting lost and ending up being locked in a huge, empty factory for the rest of the night remains absent in your teeny-tiny mind as a small giggle emitted from you.

soon enough, you found an accessible room, noticing how it was already half-way open as you stepped inside the said room, making sure to fully close the door behind you so no one would suspect that one of the employees' child is missing and could be hiding in this room. the room wasn't small, but it wasn't spacious like how the other rooms you've seen. it was completely empty, saved for the small vent above you at the left side of the sky-blue colored, painted walls. when you released a low 'whoa' underneath your breath, it was still loud enough for your ears due to the emptiness and the silence in the room, even liking the fact how it's a bit echo-y.

you sighed.

i don't wanna go home just yet . . .

back home, there's nothing else to do but coloring books and drawing boring shapes!

i wanna play with huggy forever!

you found yourself a spot on the floor and sat down with your back against the wall and both arms wrapping around your legs, placing your chin on top and in between your knees as a small pout made it's way on your lips.

upset, that's how you feel.

it's not like you're being a spoiled brat or anything. it's just, back at home, it gets real lonely. your father's work is about at the other side of the globe for crying out loud. so, it was only you and your mom to accompany each other. you also never really got to spend as much time with your mother when she's home. she was always busy sewing clothes as a hobby of hers in her free time, hence the reason why you got so many toys to occupy you of your time instead of hers.

also, being left behind with a babysitter doesn't always go well. you learned how to get them scolded, or what you like to see it as, them being 'fired' by your mother who would go home from work just to see that the whole, entire house is a mess. one time, you even went far enough to piss off your mother. there were glitter glue spilled everywhere, especially on the couch and on the carpet, in which your mother dreaded the most. the dining table was a mess with opened and unfinished bags of chips or biscuits and other, various snacks. the only places you never got to taint with your vileness though are the sleeping quarters of you and your mother's. but the bathroom? it looks like it got striked by a nuclear bomb made of toilet paper.

you really didn't felt no pity to the babysitter as she suffered from your mother's distressed temper. well, that's what your babysitter gets from being on the telephone for far too long and not paying you attention. just like when you asked for her help to reach at the top of the refrigerator to grab and give you the cookie jar, only for her to ignore you in return as they rant away with whoever they were talking to on the other line.

sighs, such special memories.

should i get out?

you thought as you stood up and got close to the door while placing your ear against it as you tried and listened to any audible footsteps passing by.

fully unaware and thinking you were all alone in an empty room, you failed to hear the vent above you being slowly and carefully pushed open by a certain, yellow hand.

"ah, so this is where you're camping."

"AAAAAAAAAAH!"

as soon as you heard a voice spoke up from behind, you jumped and screamed at the top of your lungs for a good, few seconds before quickly slapping a hand on your mouth, eyes now wide as saucers along with your gaping mouth as you instinctively looked up to where the vent is.

and there, you see huggy wuggy's head peeking out from the vent with that same, derpy-looking smile on his face and his eyes filled with nothing more but amusement.

"hello!", he greets you as you watch how he gracefully crawls out of the vent with his head coming out first before his whole body came into full view. he then lets his arms fall on his sides as he looms over your small frame. "i think someone might have heard that, silly (y/n).", he whispered before crouching down to your height, his hands on top of his knees as he slightly tilts his head to the side before asking, "are you . . alright?"

"what are you doing here?! y-you scared me!", you whisper yelled at him with a small pout on your lips, your brows creasing and your arms now crossed as you stomped your foot on the ground. huggy could only look away, as if he's suddenly embarrassed for scaring you - when he really didn't mean to - while scratching the back of his head.

"obviously, i'm here because i went out looking for you. mrs. (l/n) is very upset. i believe you're in deep trouble now, kiddo.", he says and released a sigh. you looked up at him in awe as you waited and continued to listen to what more of he has to say. he then took a seat on the ground across from you, straightening his legs with both hands placed between his thighs before asking,

"why would you even run away like that, little (y/n)? you nearly gave mrs. (l/n) a heart attack! and now, some of the staffs are looking for you! and i knew that i have to get you myself, just in case you got yourself trapped in a room, or s-something worse!", you swore you saw how the permanent smile on his lips seems to decrease in size just for a little, and how that usual goofy-ish, cheery tone in his voice was replaced by rather a strict and calm one.

is he scolding you?

maybe he is, and now you feel bad. you did act recklessly back there but at the same time, you can't help it! you don't wanna go home just yet, you still got some more stories to tell huggy, more things to tell him about certain topics, so much more for him to learn about what's been going on with you out there in the outside world, a place he's not allowed to get a sight of.

he's just as curious as a little kid, a little kid who's exactly just like yourself. still learning and growing while limited to their own time. maybe that's the reason why you got attached to him. he's almost like a father to you, or perhaps, a sibling you never got to have.

either way, he's family.

when he was about to speak more, he abruptly stopped when he noticed how your cheeks seems to color in a red hue, along with your little, adorable nose. that's when he noticed how your eyes were now glossy as visible tears begins to prickle at the corners of your eyes. one even managed to fully escape as it slides down your cheek.

huggy internally panicked.

and by panicked, i meant, 'ohnowhathaveidone?!' kind of panic. because he immediately scoops you up in his arms as he leans forward before placing you down on his lap as he pulls both of his legs up. meanwhile, you quietly sniveled as you sat back against his thighs while sitting in a criss-cross applesauce position. you were now full on crying while your small hands tried to wipe some of the tears away from your eyes, but failed nonetheless because they just keep on coming out, unable to be stopped.

"i-i didn't . . hic . . mean t-to make everyone w-worry. hic . . i just want t-to spend m-more time w-with you!", you cried, while huggy on the other hand, shushes you while caressing your head in a gentle and caring way to soothe you, "i don't wanna go home b-because . . it gets lonely . . then i-i hic become sad and-and even more lonely and b-because mommy's always busy, i have no one else to p-play with.", you finished as you wiped your eyes one last time before looking up at him.

"why? don't you have some toys to play with?", he asks calmly before both of his hands cups both of your cheeks to fully wipe away your tears, "there, that's better."

you shook your head in response to his question, "no. they're not talking, o-or moving, a-and they cannot understand, or even hear me . . .", you quietly said as your gaze fell, your body slumping as you take your time to take some deep breaths to calm yourself down, and to avoid getting more hiccups. your head suddenly feels heavy though, and your eyes feels sleepy. your whole body is.

huggy noticed before wrapping both arms around you and pulls you closer against him, leaning down a bit so his head would be placed on top of yours as he once again, released a sigh. you don't mind, because he's so warm, soft and comfy, like the covers of your bed back at home. the thought made you feel even more sleepy and sluggish as huggy's hand begins to draw some random lines on your back. the feeling was nice, and it helped you relaxed as your eyes slowly flutters shut.

and before you fell into complete darkness due to exhaustion, you heard him speak to you one last time,

"sleep, dear (y/n).
fret not, for i will always be here, right by your side. always."

after an hour and a couple of minutes, you've completely had fallen asleep, right there in huggy's arms where he's holding you close to him.

heaving a sigh, he carefully stands up to his full height as he cradles you in his arms before walking out of the room then down the halls, all the way to his main stage. he did passed by some employees and they all gave him some odd looks, to which he found amusing but ignored them anyway.

once he got back to his quarters, he immediately spotted your mother, and with her, was the boss, mr. elliot ludwig, himself. he turned around as soon as huggy got close enough for his footsteps to be heard.

"ah! speaking of the devil!", mr. ludwig exclaims as he gave a wide enough smile to the massive blue mascot in front of them. it almost seems forced but huggy chose not to dwell about it before crouching down to hand over (y/n) to her mother, who looks certainly relieved when she saw that you're safe and sound.

"goodness! thank you, huggy wuggy. i'm deeply sorry for the inconvenience they've caused.", she stated while taking (y/n) in her arms, the side of their cheek pressing against her shoulder with a faint snore that can be heard as she then caresses their back with her hand, "she can just be . . a little too much, sometimes.", she added and looked up at huggy, apologizingly.

huggy only shook his head as he stands back up, "no worries, mrs. (l/n)! little (y/n) isn't that much of a handful compared to most of the kids i've taken care of. she listens very well and knows how to limit herself, despite being at such a young age, which is impressive, by the way!"

he didn't mean to prattle, he's only speaking his mind for the two adults to hear and understand that (y/n) means well, and also as a way to secretly convince mr. ludwig that he doesn't need to, ah, what's the word for it?, 'ban' (y/n) from visiting him and the toy factory for a couple of weeks.

again, huggy doesn't want to see or even imagine (y/n) to be taken over by desolation and loneliness just because she's not allowed to go and play in the toy factory with him like the other kids.

if the others kids can go, then (y/n) should go as well.

"haha! why, that's a very good way to let mrs. (l/n) know that her precious little child is under the protection of our very own huggy wuggy here!", mr. eliott says as he went to approach huggy's legs then gave his foot a pat of his hand, "having said that, i believe that it is time for us all to depart and call it a day! especially you, huggy wuggy, since today you are in desperate need of . . .", he trailed off for a bit before glancing over to your mother, in which she glanced back at him questioningly. he then looked back at up at the cuddly mascot beside him as he continues " . . 'repairs' at the basement. the doctors has been waiting."

ah, of course.

huggy knew what he meant.

but deep down, he knows that he really needn't such repairs nor any kind of so-called, 'check-ups'. mostly everyday, it got him thinking that if he does need said doctors to check up
