BROOKLYN, NY
AK'S POV.
โ โ โ
I HUFFED, watching the smoke blow from my chapped lips. I dug in my coat pocket, desperately searching for my airpods. "Shit." I shivered before putting them in my ear and playing Drinking and Driving by Jhene Aiko. Only because I felt this song way too much.
I dug deep down into my other coat pocket and grabbed my air bar but like the clumsy person I am, I dropped it.
"Fuck!" I groaned before picking it up and taking a hit. It was so damn cold. I used to like snow when I was a kid but the New York snow was absolutely different. It only got colder and colder over the years and eighteen year old me definitely wasn't fucking with it anymore.
It was getting dark, it was windy and the snow was falling like it was never going to stop. I hated having to walk place to place but it wasn't safe for me to drive especially around this time of year.
It isn't safe walking the streets in New York either but when you're stuck with only two options.. you pick the "safest". Rather get mugged then die in a car accident anyway.
"HIDE BITCH HIDEEEE!" I heard laughter coming from a car that rode past me fast as hell. It's icy as hell and niggas trynna go over twenty miles. Not even shocked these people have a death wish.
I rolled my eyes as I walked past the bodega. I turned my music up more because lord knows I was only going to get cat called by a bunch of dirty niggas who chill outside this place.
Even before the snow there were times I had to walk from place to place. So me passing this bodega wasn't an unfamiliar thing. I'm familiar with everything and everybody around this bitch.
"AY ADELINE!" I heard a familiar voice yell my name. I rolled my eyes at the voice and the mention of my real name that everybody knows I don't like to go by unless it was family.
I started walking faster, leaving my ugg boot trail in the snow. I avoided all eye contact and was hoping they seen I wasn't interested and will leave me alone.
But of course that wasn't the case when it came to them.
"ADELINE KIRBY!" Was yelled again. "I know yo big dumbass hear me. Bring yo big foreheaded ass here."
I signed heavily before taking my air pods out and turning, facing them, "What do you want?" I squinted my eyes at them. They was deep as hell. They always was deep as hell for no apparent reason. Like why is there ten of y'all niggas standing outside a bodega at nine o'clock at night.
"Adeline Kirby." He smirked.
"It's Ak nigga. Stop calling me that shit i've told you this before, Kyle." I stared him straight in his eye.
He smirked at me while keep eye contact, "The fuck you gon do if I don't?" He stepped up to me, looking straight down at me.
"I've already told your monkey ass ain't nobody scared of you. You ain't nothing but a little nigga." I looked at him in disgust. He do this everytime and everytime he fails to make me scared of him. Bitches don't put fear in my heart and a nigga never will either.
I guess this was his way of flirting but when are guys going to understand that being mean isn't the way to win a girl over. Plus, I didn't even like boys. And he knew this. I've been trying to like them but it's hard.
His face dropped as all his homeboys starting laughing. It always felt good making people laugh so of course that did nothing but boost my ego.
"Stop acting all tough with me, Pistol." He tilted his head.
"It's Ak, bitch."
"The fuck you say?" I could tell his face scrunched up under his shiesty mask. Which he never took off. Know that hoe stank.
"I called you a bitch, nigga. Any other questions?"
"She bitching you right now, word." Sheik laughed hard. I've became familiar with all their names over time. "Nah gangsta, I wouldn't take that if I was you." Tata added on, making everybody laugh.
"Shordy funny as hell." Jah Woo agreed.
Kyle rolled his eyes and smacked his lips, "Word to my mother stop playing with me." He said before looking back at me. "When you gon stop playin with me though foreal? You know I'm jackin that little attitude you got. I like that." He licked his lips at me.
I stared at him with a face of boredom, "Never. I don't know you." I said.
Everybody busted out laughing,
"You do know me though." He said.
"I've talked to you almost everyday for a few months because you harass me to speak to you every time. I barley know shit about you and I barley even like you. Ya presence makes me sick to my stomach actually." I spat.
"Oh shit." One of them instigated.
Kyle stared me in my eyes trying to look for any sign of me joking. Maybe he wasn't looking for that at all.
"You a bitch and yo momma is too." He spat back.
"We done here Dinosaur boy? I gotta get back to the crib." I fixed the gloves on my hands.
"Getcho bitch ass on." He looked me up and down before walking into the store.
"I'm surprised he ain't come at you any harder than what he did." Sheik said.
"Fuck outta hea." I scoffed, "He knows better. Seeya." I walked away from that nasty crowd before I end up dead in a drive by. I can say they are brave for standing out there almost every night knowing they got opps.
I finally go to the fence that was in my back yard and jumped it, walking to the front. I walked in the front door.
"Where have you been, hija?" My mom was sitting on the couch, drinking a cup of hot coco. I sighed, "I went to Melanie's house. Sorry I lost track of time." I told her, stopping on the stair case.
"Oh that's okay. I just haven't heard from you in a couple hours. You could have stayed the night if you wanted." She suggested, making me shrug my shoulders. My mom was sweet. She was a good mother so our relationship was really good. She was supportive and selfless and that's what I love so much about her.
"Nah I wanted to come home. It was mad boring over there." I went and sat beside her on the couch and laid my head on her arm.
She sat her hot coco mug down on the table and started rubbing through my hair, "That or you just missed me." She smiled.
"No way." I faked a disgusted look on my face, making her laugh.
"What the fuck ever." She pushed at my shoulder. My mom was spanish so she tried her best to speak english by cursing a lot for some reason.
"Speaking of missing. Where the hell is your brother?" She asked me with the most infuriating look on her face. She was soft on me. I guess because i'm a girl but she was very hard on my brother. I think she feels like she has to be tougher on him because she's a single mom.
I shrugged, "I don't know. I haven't seen him since this morning."
She rolled her eyes, "You know I get real sick of that boy. All he wants to do is run the streets with his little thug friends." She said.
I raised my eyebrows and then dropped them. Little do she know I like to run the streets with my thug ass friends too but she don't have to know all that.
She squinted her eyes at me, "You must do same thing hija?" That woman could read me like a book.
"Whaaaaat?" I pretended to be offended, "I do not. I like to run around with my christian friends and go to different peoples houses and read them bible scriptures from our note pads." I joked.
"You little bitch you." She begin to tickle me.
"Mom stop!" I laughed continuously.
"You're such a smart ass." She laughed before pushing me off of her.
I got up from the couch, "Who do I get it from?" I stuck my tongue out at her.
"Me." The front door came swinging open, revealing my brother with McDonald's in his hand, "I bought food."
My mom sighed before standing up, "Papi! Where have you been? You had me worried sick!" She exclaimed pointing her finger at him viciously.
She grabbed his ear through his shiesty and walked him to the kitchen with me trailing both their butts, "Oww fuck! Ma chill out." He grabbed at her hand. She aggressively let his ear go and he sat the food down, "I was just at the studio with the guys." He took off his ski mask and flipped his dyed blue dreads out his face and rubbed his red aching ear.
"Camrin why can't you be more like your sister?" My mom sighed.
He looked at me up and down and let out a laugh, "Nah." He shook his head.
I squinted my eyes at him, "What's that suppose to mean, you dickhead?" I punched him in his shoulder, making him wince. "What did you get me from McDonald's?" I started opening all the bags and reaching for anything in sight. I definitely didn't play about my Mcdonald's.
"Aht aht aht." He grabbed my hand out the bags, "Get your big fat ass on." He took a fry out and smacked on it.
I rolled my eyes, "Stop playing with me Cam. Deadass."
My mom smacked Camrin on the back of his head, "ยกOye! No le hables asรญ a tu hermana." She yelled at him.
I laughed and crossed my arms over my chest, "Ha ha." I stuck my tongue out at him.
Camrin rolled his eyes before looking at mom, "Deja de tratarla como a una bebe." He sat down at the table.
I rolled my eyes at him telling her to stop treating me like a baby. "Just give me the bag." I snatched it before sitting down in front of him and getting a cheeseburger out. "Awl no pickles and extra mustard just how I like it. You really love me." I smiled at Camrin.
"I shouldn't have got you shit." He sucked the salt from the fries off his thumb making me scrunch my face up.
"You such asshole, Papi." My mom said sitting down and grabbing a burger as well. "Thank you for food though baby."
"Gotchu ma." Cam said with a mouthful. "So you.." He looked at me. "When you goin back to school? What's this made up ass break you on?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes, "We're out because one of the deans died last week." I told him.
"So? That ain't got shit to do with y'all." He said.
"Nigga shut up." I told him.
"You gon do my hair?" He ignored me.
"Maybe. Only if you paying me."
Cam scrunched up his face, "Pay you for what? We releated. Nah not gon lie, you fake as hell." He ate a fry.
"Camrin! Stop all that cursing." My mom interrupted.
"My bad"
I shrugged, "It don't matter. You know doing hair one of my only sources of income." I said.
Camrin smacked his lips, "Bruh you do lashes and nails too. You not broke." He said.
Lowkey gagged me there.
Camrin phone suddenly started ringing indicating someone was facetiming him so he answered, "Yo Jenn." He said before put his phone down on the table. "What's the word Gangsta." It was some darkskin girl with dreads in the camera. I've never seen Camrin talk to her before.
"What y'all niggas on tonight?" She asked.
"Shiii it's up to y'all niggas. I just got back to the crib. Was at the stu with Setty n dem" Camrin smacked making me once again scrunch up my face at his nastiness.
"Me, Ta and Kr can slide that way? We walking up to your crib right now." The girl asked and flipped the camera to show us they were not too far away from our house.
Camrin looked at my mom who was already looking at him with a look on her face meaning she didn't want company.
He looked back down at his phone, "Yeah. Slide." He said quickly and then hung up.
"Camrin!" My mom stood up from her seat.
She took off her shoe and started beating him with it, "Ma chill!" He laughed, covering himself up.
He got up and started running around the kitchen with my mom chasing after him, "Why you so hard headed, boy?" She kept beating him.
"Ahh fuck!" He yelled.
I started laughing at their goofiness. They did this all the time. I grabbed my bag of food and headed up to my room so I could eat and listen to music on my speaker upstairs.
"Mmm." I groaned throwing myself stomach first on my bed, "Awhh fuck." I stretched to turn on the speaker next to my bed. Drinking and Driving by Jhene Aiko instantly blasted considering it was the last song that was playing on Apple Music.
"Not sad anymore." I turned down the speaker some so it wouldn't be too loud. Don't have time for my neighbors to be complaining to the police again.
Camrin told me next time I had the police to come knocking at our door he'd put me in a headlock and force me to watch a complication of straight couples doing straight couple things.
Ew.
I turned on Flawlรซss by Yeat and Lil Uzi Vert, "Hell yeah." I said to myself. I talk to myself a lot. I sat up and took my puffer off and my uggs off and put them in my closet. "Nope. Can't forget." I took my airpods and air bar out my coat pocket before closing my closet door.
I hit my air bar and laid back on my bed and started scrolling through snap on my phone.
Interrupting my scrolling was a knock at my door. I groaned and rolled my eyes because I just got up here what possibly could they want already, "What?" I paused my music before getting up and opening my door.
There stood my brother, Kyle and Tata from the bodega and That dyke girl that was on facetime with Camrin a few minutes ago, "Oh fuck no." I tried to shut my door but Camrin used his arm to push my door open.
They all walked into my room, "Nah, say word Adeline ya sister?" Kyle started laughing, making me roll my eyes.
"Nahh my son Ak, what's the word, my heart? Why you ain't never tell us Blu was your brother?" Tata dapped me up. Tata never annoyed me like Kyle did. Matter a fact none of them annoyed me like Kyle did.
"Didn't think it was that important." I said. If i knew these niggas was friends with my brother and they were coming over I would've barricaded my door shut with wood, nails and a hammer.
"Y'all know her? Nah don't tell me she be getting around. I fake knew that already." Camrin said making me them all laugh.
"I have heard about her a few times, not gon lie bro." Kyle said.
"Word? Im not surprised." Camrin answered back.
"Get out! Why are y'all in my room?" I tried pushing at Camrin but his big ass still wasn't budging. "Fucking fat fuck, get out!" I said referring to his titties sitting on his chest, showing through that loose ass wife beater he was wearing.
"Chill Ak. We not tryna interrupt your masturbating session or something I was just coming to introduce them, you feel me?" Camrin held up his hands in defensive, "But it seems like you know them already."
"Nah ion think she know Jenn." Tata pointed to the darkskin girl.
I almost forgot she was here she so quiet. The only thing she did was laugh at what these niggas was saying.
I looked at her but she was already looking at me. She had her hands in the front of her sweats, "Hey Jenn. Can y'all get out my room now?" I said quickly before looking at Camrin for an answer.
Jenn scrunched up her face, "Hollon hollon. That attitude is crazy ya heard." She smiled, revealing her braces.
"She always got an attitude." Kyle said, making me cut eyes at him.
"Word? Seems like it." Jenn agreed.
I'd be lying if I said this Jenn girl wasn't attractive. I've been liking girls since the start of time but i've been trying to look at niggas more because these bitches keep playing with me. But, this Jenn girl is not helping standing in my room looking as good as she do, "Get out." I gave her a sarcastic smile.
She smacked her lips, "Not gon lie, I'm smacked right now." She laughed, "So ima let you slide, gangsta."
I cocked my eyebrow at her, making her bust out laughing, "Nah stop lookin at me like that. You wildin." She pointed at me.
I just looked at her with a blank expression, "Are you done?" I asked.
"Hollon. Hollonโ" Camrin put his hand on Jenn chest, "You can't be talkin to my son Jenn with the wap like that. Word ima have to boom you." He threatened.
Jenn side eyed him, "Bro.." She trailed off, making Tata and Kyle laugh.
I stared at Camrin for a second before I started to push them all out my room, "Get out Camrin!" I yelled.
Eventually getting them all out I sighed in relief, "Thank God." I turned my music back on and laid on my bed.
