𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 night came super quickly for Rachel. It was pretty hard to believe that this was the first time she ever attended a football game played by her school team.

Crows

"I can't believe you actually came," Sarah said to Rachel from beside her. They were currently sitting side by side with unbothered by the drizzling rain.

"Oh shut up" Rachel said elbowing her friend, earning a laugh from her, "there's always a first time for everything".

Corvus let out a 'gurgling croak' agreeing with her. "You see, he agrees with me" Rachel gestured to the standing on her shoulder. Sarah rolled her eyes. "Rachel, someone always has to agree with you" she said, making Rachel playfully punch her shoulder.

"And plus you came to this game to support a certain someone" Sarah teased, nudging Rachel with her elbow.

"Shut up".

"Jordan and Rachel sitting in a tree" Sarah quietly sang, Rachel quickly covered her mouth before she could finish. "Quit it, Lois could hear you" Rachel whispered gesturing to Lois who was talking to Chrissy a few levels up on the bleachers. Sarah let out a laugh before she turned to Corvus.

"Corvus, my favorite bird, don't you think it is weird that for the first time she is willing to attend a football game" she said, Corvus let out a low 'croak' nodding his head.

"As I said there's always a first time for everything" Rachel told her. "Your right" Sarah started, "like a first kiss" Sarah wiggled her eyebrows. Rachel couldn't help but blush. "You're not gonna let that go, are you?" she asked her friend. "Nope," Sarah said, popping the 'p'.

Rachel let out a groan, "great" she muttered under her breath while petting Corvus's feathers.

"You gotta be kidding me" Rachel said as she spotted a man she disliked passing by. "What" Sarah asked confused. Rachel gestured to the man with her head. "Morgan Edge" Rachel spoke his name in a low voice.

Sarah sighed, "Rachel," she said, making her friend turn to her, "Tonight you're here to support Jordan". Sarah spoke, "not to get grounded again".

Rachel muttered a series of curses under her breath before sighing and turning her attention back to the game.

"Now entering the game # 24, Jordan Kent'' a man's voice said through the loudspeakers peaking Rachels attention. Jordan ran on the field putting on his helmet and getting into position. For a moment his eyes found a certain goth girl he liked sitting on the bleachers with her friend.

Even when she told him that she would come to the game Jordan was still surprised to see her here.

The whistle blew, gaining Jordans attention back as the game started again. He tackled some of the opposing teams players before tackling the player with the ball.

Rachel and Sarah cheered along with other people when one of the crows players grabbed the ball and made it across the field making the crows win.

"Hey, here comes the cover of Madden 21!"

Everyone cheered at Jordan as he entered the diner. He received patts on his shoulder and hugs from people Rachel was sure he didn't know.

"He doesn't even like football," Jonathan said, sitting on the counter next to Tag, Rachel, and Sarah. "So what? He evolved" Sarah told him.'' It happens.

"She's right" Rachel said even though she had her music blasted all the way up she could still hear the interaction going on. "You'd be surprised how people evolve," Rachel said as she turned the page of her book. She always liked multitasking, listening to her music and reading her thriller books.

"I used to get game balls" Tag suddenly said gaining all three of there attention, "before my stupid million-to-one exploding bonfire injury".

"Did the doctor give you, like a timeline for getting that off, or..." Jon asked trailing off at the end of his sentence.

"Maybe in time for the playoffs," Tag answered, looking down at his plate of food. "But we won't make playoffs if our wideouts can't catch a ball," he said, louder for anyone to hear.

"What'd you say?" a guy asked before getting up from his spot and walking up to Tag. "Oh, relax, Wellnitz," Tag said, not bothering to look at the guy behind him.

"Your broke ass is busting on me?" Wellnitz asked "Waitress? Might want to have this guy pay first unless he's putting those buffalo wings on layaway."

Tag quickly got up and faced Wellnitz.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey. Guys. guys. Guys. guys. Guys. guys. Hey. hey. hey" Jonathan said, quickly getting up from his seat and getting in the middle of Tag and Wellnitz. Rachel and Sarah turned around to look at the scene. "Come on, man" Sean said coming from behind, "what are you doing?" Sean asked, grabbing Wellnitz's shoulder.

"Not worth it."

Rachel rolled her eyed at the boys. This party was still celebrate not to start fight. She did want these boys to cause anymore headaches. Letting out a tired sigh she closed her book and shoved it in her bag.

"Where're you going" Sarah asked noticing the girls actions. "So where that's not here" she told her.

Bidding Sarah good by Rachel made her way out of the diner failing to notice a frown on a certain Kent twin a few feet away.

~

"This is savage." Chrissy said looking at tomorrow's paper the gazette was going to publish tomorrow morning. "Edge picked the mayor to parrot his misinformation so I had to reply" Lois bluntly said.

Rachel let out a laugh. "Yeah, but it reads like a debate with a first grader" Chrissy told her "The mayor keeps saying jobs and then you fire off a list of EPA infractions. Mortgage rate inflation scams, a whole string of missing employees."

"This is why I hired you," Chrissy said, earning a small laugh from Rachel who was sitting on a chair still listening to her music and reading her book. "I even did my own copyediting," Lois stated. "Mm, that part still needed some work" Rachel honestly told her without looking up from her book.

"Where?"

'Diiinnnggg'

The bell to the gazette rang, gaining the treos attention.

Leslie Larr, the assistant of Morgan Edge, stood there with what looked like an envelope.

"Uh, we're actually not open at 10:00 at night" Chrissy informed her but Leslie ignored her. "Your old contract for your lawyer" she said, opening the envelope in her hands. Lois snatched the paper from her hand and opened it. "What are you talking about?" Lois asked. "We're aware of the piece you intend to publish tomorrow," she said, making Rachel close her book and stand up.

"How could you know that?" Chrissy asked but Leslie ignored her again. "Any such action would be in breach of your previous contract as I'm sure your lawyer will explain." Leslie told Lois, "I told you he would crush you".

Without another word she turned around and left leaving them with looks disbelief. "It's okay, Edge is just trying to scare us,'' Lois told both Chrissy and Rachel.

"Yeah, well, it's totally working" Chrissy said "The Gazette can't afford to fight off an army of Edge's lawyers. We don't even have a lawyer." "But the vote is tomorrow," Rachel spoke up. "I'm sorry, but until this gets worked out I can't risk publishing a word you write." Chrissy apologized, leaving both Lois and Rachel with uneasy faces.

The only way they could have stopped the town from voting in favor of Morgan Edge would have been publishing the article...but they couldn't.

Not anymore.

Saturday morning would usually be a routine for rachel. Get up, go to Martha's place and spend the whole day there,..but it was different now. Rachel thought it would be nice to sleep in for once and Corvus seemed ok with that.

'Rrriiiiinnggg'

Rachel and Corvus bolted awake scanning their surroundings for what could be making the noise.

Rachels phone rang endlessly, making her let out a groan. Her phone sat on her night stand. Being angry, Corvus started attacking the phone in anger.

Couldn't he at least have a peaceful morning without having anything disturb him.

'UNKNOWN'

The caller ID read. Rachel furrowed its eyebrows in confusion. Who the hell would it be? Who the hell could be calling her this early? Maybe it could be a wrong number? Nonetheless Rachel answered the call, with a little hesitation.

"Hello," Rachel said, rubbing her tired eyes. "Rachel?" Lois's voice came through the phone. "Lois?...How did you get my number?" she asked in confusion. Corvus let out a tired 'croak' before letting his whole body fall on his pillow.

"Chrissy gave it to me" Lois said like it wasn't a big deal, "but that's not what i'm calling you for".

"Chrissy told me that you good at getting information in places others can't" She explained, making Rachel raise a brow. "O-k," Rachel said.

She didn't know where this was going.

"I need your eyes and ears," Lois blurted out. "Ohh..uhh..ok" Rachel stutterd out "regarding what exactly?" She asked.

"I just found out Morgan Edge is at the mines" Lois started "Chrissy said you have a few tricks up your sleeves that could help us now what he's up to there."

"Look I wouldn't have asked if I didn't really need your help-" "I'll do it" Rachel blurted out.

"You will?" Lois asked she didn't expect the girl to agree so quickly.

"Yeah."

"Come to the farm in 30 minutes" Lois told the teen. Before Rachel could say anything the else Lois hung up.

Without having a second thought she jumped off her bed and bolted for her closet. Rachel flung her closet doors open having absolutely no remorse.

Taking in a long breath Rachel scanned through the clothes in her closet but saw nothing she wanted to where. Grabbing her phone she dialed her friend's number. Her phone rang for what seemed like an eternity before Sarah picked.

"What is the honor to have my friend call me at this time of day?" Sarah's voice boomed through the phone speakers. "About that.." Rachel trialled off before continuing, "I need your help".

"Oookkk" Sarah said confused Rachel never asked for help unless she really needed help, "with what?"

Rachel took a deep breath before deciding to answer . "With what i'm going to wear.." Rachel cringed waiting for Sarah's response.

"Are you going on a date?" Sarah asked, curious to why her friend would ask help with what to wear. Rachel choked on air. "What no, I just need... new fashion advice" she said but it sounded like she was trying to convince herself more than Sarah.

"Uh...huh" Sarah said, not believing her friend.

"In the back closet there's a shirt with the words "FEAR YOUR MIND" Sarah said "I put it together with some other pieces of cloths that would go with it". Rachel rummaged through the closet before finding it.

"Sarah, have I ever told you how lucky I am to have a best friend like you?" Rachel told her with a smile. Sarah let out a laugh "Many times."

"Thank you"

"Your welcome..."

"...Oh and don't forget the party tonight"

"Dang it"

~

Rachel ran down the stairs struggling to put on her boots. Checking to see if her phone and her MP3 player were in her pocket Rachel bolted out the door with Corvus flying right behind her.

~

"Red, 57. Set, hut!" Clark yelled, throwing the ball for his sons to catch. "Ooo" Jon said, catching the ball but it was cut short when Clark used his speed to get behind him and steal it. "Take away" Clark yelled, "Wooo!, can't get cocky. It's a cardinal sin. Never celebrate until you cross a goal line"

"Okay, guy who runs at Mach 10" Jon said earning a laugh from his dad. "Go" he told Jordan throwing the ball.

Jordan started running to catch the ball but when he leaned towards the ball to catch it the ball just bounced out of his hands.

"Well, that's why he plays defense," Clark stated as he watched his son bend down to pick up the ball.

"I'm starting to think you have mud on your hands" a female voice said from behind as he picked up the ball. Turning around his eyes met with those light blue eyes that made his heart skip a beat.

Rachel stood in front of him with a teasing smirk and a bird on her shoulder.

"Rachel," he said in confusion, not expecting to see her here, "h-how long have you been there" he asked. Rachel just shrugged, "a couple of minutes" she answered.

"w-what are you doing h-here?" He asked.

"Your mom called me" Rachel started, "regarding something about the smallville gazette". "The smallville gazette?" He said in confusion.

"You work at the gazette?" Jordan asked, making her humm. "I didn't know you worked for the smallville gazette" he said, Rachel chuckled. "There's a lot of things you don't know about me," she told him. Corvus let out a loud 'gurgling croak' agreeing with her.

"Clark!" Lois exclaimed coming out from the Kent household. "Gorgeous husband, love of my life, and my dear, personal champion " Lois listed.

"Oh oh" Rachel said, making Jordan look at her, "she wants something".

"Doesn't she?" She asked turning to Jordan, making them both let out a laugh.

Drowning Lois and Clark out, Rachel found herself staring at Jordan. "You have..uhh" she trailed off gesturing to a mud stain on his forehead. "Right there" she gestured to the mud.

Using his jacket sleeve Jordan tried to wipe it off but somehow kept missing the spot. "Here" she said, carefully wiping off the mud with her hand.

"Thanks" he said and Rachel could swear that she saw his cheeks turn a light pink.

"Rachel" Lois called, snapping the girl from her trance. Bidding good by to the Kent twins Rachel failed to notice the teasing grin on Jonathan's face.

~

The ride to the mines started off silent, well for Lois. Rachel on the other hand could feel Lois's emotions wave off her. Rachel knew Lois had this urge to ask her a question.

"I never thanked you for the journal full of information on Morgan Edge, did I?" Lois asked, breaking the silence. "You don't have to thank me," Rachel said, petting Corvus who was on her lap, "it was about time someone saw through his lies".

Lois hummed in response. "Though I've been meaning to ask," she started, "why did you start investigating Morgan Edge in the first place" she asked.

Rachel hand stopped petting Corvus.

"The day I met him I got this..kind of..bone chilling vibe radiating off of him" Rachel tried to explain, making Lois ferrow his eyebrows.

"What do you mean bone chilling vibe?" She asked, glancing at the girl for the moment.

Rachel just shrugged in response. Lois, Clark, and Jonathan didn't know about her having powers.

Somehow Jordan kept her secret from them, which Rachel was grateful for.

"Why do you work for the Smallville Gazette?" Lois suddenly asked changing the subject. "The past few months my moms short on money so I work at the gazette to earn my own money to not waste hers," Rachel explained.

Corvus let out a 'croak' as he made himself comfortable on the inside of Rachel's jacket.

"Your the Gazette's eyes and ears" Lois said, "how does that work?" She asked.

Rachel let out a small laugh, "I do half of the work, Corvus does the rest" she explained. "How does Corvus complete the rest?". Lois asked, glancing at the spot the bird was. "Corvus goes to places I am not able to go," Rachel told her.

Corvus let out a loud 'gurgling croak' slightly peeking out from her jacket.

"No offence to Corvus but even if that's right he wouldn't be able to tell you what he sees" Lois told her, "unless you tape a camera on him" she added.

Rachel chuckled at the woman's sense of humor.

"You know...you and Jordan bonded really quickly," Lois said, making the girl almost choke on air.

Why would she just change the again subject to her son?

It suddenly felt like she was being interrogated.

Lois eyed the girl before continuing. "Two people tend to bond easily when they both went through the same situation," Lois said, making Rachel tense.

The Jordan situation involved getting powers and trying to learn to control them. Somehow Lois suspected that's she had powers.

"What do you mean?" she asked, trying to sound as clueless as possible. They made eye contact before Lois had to turn back to the road. "You dig into Edge's past but never finish the research," Lois started to explain.

Rachel closed her eyes shut cursing at herself for forgetting she never finished it.

Because how could she forget, she got a painful long hour lecture from her mother.

"Knowing Edge he'd probably look for your deepest and darkest secret and use it against you" Lois continued "you stopped because you feared Edge would find out your secret."

Rachel felt her heart drop. Corvus let out a low and deadly 'croak' almost as if daring Lois to keep talking.

Rachel always heard people say that Lois Lane always got to the truth behind the lies no matter what.

Boy are they right.

The time her mother got mad at her and lectured for looking into someone's past didn't stop Rachel completely from looking into Edges past.

The real reason that made her stop was that Edge knew that Rachel had abilities, and if she kept investigating him he would have found out what she was capable of.

What she really was.

"I knew you were good at your job" Rachel suddenly spoke up, "I just didn't know you that good."

"You have powers don't you?" Lois asked. Rachel let out a chuckle.

"I do," she confessed.

"How'd you get them?" Lois asked, glancing at the girl and then back at the road.

"If you knew the truth you'd look at me differently" Rachel told her. "What do you mean differently" Lois asked in confusion.

"Do you believe in demons, Lois?" Rachel asked looking out the window. "Everyone has their one demons they fight everyday" Lois stated, only to earn a laugh from Rachel. "Not those demons."

"I meant the demons made up of flesh and bone," she said, still looking out the window. "What do they have to do in this conversation?" Lois asked, glancing at the girl again.

Rachel took her eyes away from the window to look at Lois.

"Everything"
