LAENA'S FUNERAL SERVICE had ended, and the feast for her wake had been going on for hours.
Visenya sat next to Helaena as the girl crouched down to admire the strange long legged creatures that pulled a grimace on Visenya's face.
"did that insect eat it's own kin?" Visenya questioned with curiosity as she looked over her sister's shoulders.
"mantis are known for doing so...the first of betrayals are always the most anguishing ones." Helaena said to her own and Visenya looked at her confusedly, waiting for a better elaboration. She scoffed slightly when her sister went silent.
Visenya loved Helaena, but sometimes the older girl could truly confuse her younger sister and all those who engaged in conversations with her.
Visenya's dark colored eyes looked past Jacaerys Velaryon, he seemed to be mourning more than most for an aunt he never met. And she knew Laena's death was not the cause for his solemn expression, Harwin Strong was.
She could not help but feel sympathy for him, though she reminded herself that she hated him like no one else. He acted like Aegon's hound, tormenting Aemond and acting out of place because of his...difficult origins.
His face annoyed her, his hair annoyed herโhis everything vexed her.
How dare a bastard have a dragon while she's stuck with a egg that would never hatch?
It seemed as though Visenya had at least one similarity to her cousin, Rhaena Targaryen.
Once Jacaerys realized who's fiery gaze was set upon him, he stared back with the same intensity.
Visenya cleared her throat as she looked at Helaena once more, "I shall pay my respects to Laena's daughters, will you come with me?" she attempted to connect with her sister and make a nice appearance of Helaena as well.
"you're more charismatic than I am." Helaena retorted enthralled with the cannibalistc mantisโthe youngest did have to admit she was also interested in such a cruel act.
Visenya nodded quietly before making way to Baela and Rhaena Targaryen who quietly, and pitifully sat on a bench.
By the time Visenya had sat down on their bench, Helaena had already found an arachnid to inspect.
"we have nothing in common." Aegon pointed at his sister with the heavy wine in his drink sloshing around the golden cup.
"you marry her then." Aegon scowled as he brought his cup to his wine stained lips.
"I would perform my duty, if mother had only betrothed us."
"if only," Aegon chuckled sarcastically.
Alicent who had been close by had listened to her sons' conversation, and considering what her and Otto had briefly discussed before their voyage it seemed like honey to her ears.
"you know...my dragon egg is yet to hatch." Visenya said sympathetically to Rhaena, though her cheeks flushed slightly. She had Kings Landing eating from the palm of her hand yet she could not hatch a dragon egg. Maybe the people liked this, she was not in possession of a terrifying creatureโshe was their sweet , young princess the Gods favored.
"father has been planning for me to claim Vaghar, as it was my mother's dragon." Rhaena said with a sorrowful air.
"my condolences for Lady Laena." Visenya cleared her throat awkwardly. Baela and Rhaena were strangers, and Visenya was not familiar with apologizing or even revealing her emotions to strangers so easily.
"thank you, princess." Baela said gratefully.
for a second it truly seemed as if the three girls would be getting along, but then, of course. Jacaerys had to ruin the mood by waltzing to their bench.
Visenya rolled her eyes, "what are you doing here?" she spat with venom lacing her tone.
"offering my company to Baela and Rhaena, can you not see?" Jacaerys challenged and Visenya responded with a scoff as she settled down out of respect and not to make a scandolous scene.
Jacaerys did not say much, standing to Baela's side like a complete fool before the eldest twin held his hand. Visenya's mouth twitched as she glared at such simple action, her heart tightened as she looked at Baela and Jacaerys.
The princess excused herself and left, her nails digging into her skin.
"I am very sorry, Princess Rhaenys." Visenya offered and Rhanys smiled politely, "that means a lot, princess." she nodded and walked away, into the arms of her granddaughters.

in the dead of the night, neither of the Queens children were able to sleep. Aegon had passed out in the stone stairs leading to the castle of Driftmark, a dishonorable and embarrassing act as he was woken up by Otto and dragged to the walls.
Aemond was the one to rat his brother out, he looked to the distance with determination on his face.
His egg had not hatched and he was the reason for laughter inside his own home for as long as he could remember, tonight would be no more.
Visenya was no dreamer, but she had a strong sense of guessing wether things would go right or wrong.
she paced around her room, clutching at her stomach as she counted her footsteps. fury filled her heart at the sight of Jacaerys, at the reminder of how he held Baela's hand so gently, at Vermax and her unhatched egg that kept her from conquering the skies.
her feet tapped as she glanced at her door, waiting for the knight's rotation. when she heard the footsteps and the small talk between soldiers fading away, she decided it was time. Visenya had almost mastered slipping away from the eyesights of the guards, this was a feat conquered over time, and this instantโit was doable.
she did not know the reason as to why she left her chambers, as to where her feet led her but she needed to escape the stone walls of Driftmark. she felt it in her throat, that bubbling anger that felt like boiling water.
the air was cold, freezing to the point her teeth clattered but she persisted. sand hit her ankles as she made her way into the sea, she needed clarity and for Jacaerys to disappear from her mind.
the water was cold, it was winter and windy. she wished she could scream loudly, wished she could bang her fists and make the world crumble at her feet. she always got everything on command, but not this. her deepest desire, she could not have.
and then the large gust of wind and clap of wings like thunder made Visenya jumped. Vaghar had taken flight, and on her back was Aemond. The Princess gulped, her dragonless brother had finally got his wish.
But as his wish was made, Visenya soon came to a realization that Rhaena would no longer have her trial in claiming her mother's creature.
Visenya followed the dragon on foot, running to where he landed.
"Jace, what are we doing?" young Luke asked his older brother as Baela, Rhaena and Jace ran to take a look on Vhagar's thief.
"Aemond..." Visenya said as she grabbed her brother's shoulders. "what are you doing here?" the silver haired boy questioned as he saw his sister joining his side.
"it was them!" Rhaena pointed and a look of betrayal crossed the twin's faces when they saw Princess Visenya, who's jaw clenched the second Jacaerys face was illuminated by the torches.
"Vhagar was my mother's dragonโ" Baela scowled.
"Your mother's dead." Aemond cut off absentmindedly.
"Vhagar has a new rider now." Aemond continued with a sly smile. he had claimed a beast, the largest surviving from Aegon's Conquest.
"she was mine to claim!" Rhaena said bravely.
"then you should've claimed her!" Aemond argued.
"I believed you were many things, but never did I think you'd help Aemond steal a dragon that belonged to another." Jacaerys scowled as he approached Visenya.
"never did I think you'd live to hold a girl's hand." Visenya retorted, she did not want to confess that she was unaware of Aemond's plan. the cruelty Jacaerys made up on his mind was too sweet on her ears now.
"maybe your cousins can find you a pig to ride. it would suit you." Aemond continued, reminding Jacaerys and Lucerys of their last assault on Aemondโthe pink dread. Aemond would see no reasoning in it, Aegon was the mastermind of it all.
Rhaena walked up to him angrily, punching Aemond in the face but he quickly threw her nearby a pile of rocks. Baela was the next one to punch him and Aemond sent a punch into her cheeks just as strong.
"Aemond!" Visenya attempted to hold him, but he shook her off.
"come at me again and I'll feed you to my dragon!" he threatened Laena's daughters.
Jacaerys would not stand for such injustice, he charged into Aemond giving him quite a fight.
Visenya attempted to help poor Baela of the floor, but it resulted in her own face being punched.
it was an unfamiliar feeling, but one that caused a reaction to the anger bubbling in Visenya's body. she pushed Baela to the stone wall and stepped away only to be kicked in the stomach by Rhaena.
it drove Visenya dizzy, but she kept her ground. she could feel blood trickle down to her nose and the metallic taste of it on her tongue.
when she put her hands up again, Baela had picked up a rock and bashed her in the head with it. there was a large cut on the princess face, something she and Alicent had dedicated years into never having. it would obviously scar.
"Visenya!" Jacaerys screamed before he was kicked in the ground by Aemond who defended himself from Luke by breaking his nose.
while Visenya and Lucerys laid on the ground, one holding his nose and one fighting to keep her consciousness present, Baela, Rhaena and Jace delivered their blows on Aemond.
When he had kicked them all off, Luke was the one who began punching him but was quickly stopped by Aemond who grasped his neck and brought him out the ground, choking him while his free hand brought up a rock. "you'll die screaming in flames just as your father did!" Aemond threatened. "bastards!" he spat out the word with the venom he learned from it.
"my father's still alive!" Lucerys cried innocently.
"he doesn't know, does he? Lord Strong?" the silver haired boy smirked. Jacaerys wielded his dagger but Aemond was a skilled fighter and quickly disarmed him.
"Aemond you cannot kill him!" Visenya said as she scrambled to her feet, blood jarring from her head.
"shut up, bastard lover!" he cursed as he moved towards Jacaerys.
Visenya's nails digged at her palms, her vision dizzy as she struggled in seeing things through.
Jacaerys threw a handful of sand in Aemond's eyes and Lucerys took the opportunity to harm his opponent. Lucerys did not aim for Aemond's eyes, yet it bleed as he screamed and clutched his face.
"cease this at once!" a member of the Kingsguard screamed, ceasing the fight for once and all.
another guard went up to check on a bloody Visenya, the left side of her head was sticky and crimson in blood from the rock blow she had received.
"Gods be good." The Guard tending to Aemond said as he eyed the prince and princess.
