You watched as your best friend confessed to the love of your life. It hurt to see their smiles and the way they looked at each other. Their flustered expressions making your heart ache.
You bit down on your lip to calm your nerves. You could feel the tears welling up and threatening to spill. As the first tear fell, you knew there was no stopping the rest. You backed up from the wall you were standing by and ran off. The whole situation was too much.
You ran constantly wiping your never ending tears. Luckily it was the end of the day as the students were mostly gone. You slowed your pace and took time to catch your breath and let out a few sobs. You squatted down and smacked your face. You calmed your breathing and organized the racing thoughts in your mind.
They were your friends from childhood and will stay so. Hiromi has been your friend forever since you were the first ones to live in your neighbourhood. Soon after, the Miya twin's came to live in the house across the street. From that point on the four of you were inseparable. Even as a child, Atsumu had managed to charm you to fall head over heels. Yet, you couldn't admit your feelings for him.
Unfortunately, middle school had rolled around. Those years were what made you and Hiromi lose your friendship with the twins. And only now did you start reconnecting. The start of your second year in highschool. You had thoroughly scolded yourself to either tell Atsumu your feelings or give him up. Of course, you knew you were too chicken, so you opted out. At least that's what you told yourself.
It didn't help that Hiromi had recently been mentioning Atsumu in a new manner. Just looking at her you could tell she was seeing him through rose-tinted glasses. And you didn't like it one bit but, you couldn't just go off on her. Eventually, you told her that you wanted to get over him because you didn't want your feelings to get in the way of your friendship.
She was proud of your decision and wanted to help you out. Later on, she brought up how she felt about Atsumu and asked you for permission to confess to him. She knows you were in no way over the guy. You were hesitant but, you wanted to stop the butterflies in your stomach caused by him. It worried you that you could feel this way with him and he didn't even see you as more than a friend.
As the four of you began to hang out more often, you noticed something you wished you didn't.
It was any regular day in class. Atsumu was sitting diagonally from you and in front of Hiromi. Osamu sat beside you. The teacher didn't care if you quietly chatted during class as long as you got work done. After getting some stuff done you turned to speak with Hiromi. Your eyes widened at the sight of Atsumu fully turned around, engrossed in the conversation with Hiromi. Your fading smile completely vanished when you saw his pupils fully dilated, looking so warmly at her and that rare genuine smile of his.
From that day, you started seeing the pink aura surrounding them. It made you sick. But they were your friends so you should be happy for them!
....Right....?
You shook your head and stood back up dusting off your skirt. You started walking to head home and clear your mind.
'I should be happy for them, it's the least I can do'
