Me and the sandlot boys have always been close

Especially me and Benny. We've been best friends since kindergarten

Needless to say, we had a rather flirtatious friendship. He would always wink at me, I would blow kissy faces at him, we would cuddle sometimes, and he would call me hermosa, which was adorable, but he doesn't need to know that

The boys make fun of us, but all of us knew we're platonic, and I was well aware that most girls were jealous because of how close me and Benny were

We were at school and it was the last day of school. Our last period was our free period, so we decided to go outside and play baseball and Benny went up batting against the school team, and he had his serious face on which was funny

Then the pitch came. Like always he hit the ball far and he ran around the bases until he got to 3rd base which he almost ran home until the outfielder threw home and Benny ran back to 3rd and they kept throwing back and forth until Ham yelled "PICKLE"

everyone was cheering for Benny. Especially the simps for him, which was really annoying, but I shouldn't care. Right?

But after a couple of throws back and forth, Benny finally got to home plate. He was breathing sorta heavily but not too much because he's used to running that fast

He winked at me, and I playfully rolled my eyes until I heard a high pitched giggles and a random girl. "Oh my gosh, guys, Benny just winked at me" until I turned around and saw Melissa

She was so annoying and Benny's biggest simp. Me and Benny look at each other and slightly laugh, and I make a gagging face to which he just laughed at

I hear Melissa say "guys should I talk to him" and of course her friends agree but before she could even stand up I walked up to him and said "Ok Rodriguez I will admit you're fine at baseball" to which he seemed hurt by my comment

"Really only fine. I'm offended, " he said with his hand on his chest "Well I only say fine because you know I'm better, " I say, only to hear him gasp

"You liar, we all know I'm better," he said with sAs

"Ok, now are you lying to yourself..or me?" I asked, and he just rolled his eyes

After I said that, I felt a force push me out of the way

I look back and see that Melissa has the nerve to strike up a conversation with Benny

She was giggling and touching his arm. Benny was visibly uncomfortable

Finally, the bell rang, signaling the school day was over

I grab Benny's arm and get him out of there "Ah sorry Melissa but we actually have to go now, but fun seeing ya bye now. See ya next year. " After that, she scoffed

He was thanking me throughout the walk home and after what felt like the 7th time of him thanking me I just look at him "Benny ok I get it your grateful but you can shut up now" he looks at me "Yeah I know but she's so annoying" he says sighing

"Believe me, you don't have to tell me twice,"

He starts laughing at my comment

We finally got to our street, and we said our goodbyes to the boys, and we were walking past a house across from Benny's place that had a U-haul truck in the driveway with a bunch of boxes surrounding

But we were walking, and I felt eyes burning at the back of my head, so I stopped Benny, and we looked behind us to see a younger with dirty blonde hair staring at us

He waves at us, and I wave back, but Benny simply nods

Me and I were walking up to his house since my mom was almost never home. My dad is out of the picture. Don't know why. Don't care.

His mom, Adriana, seemed to love me even though she had 2 perfect children. Which one was Benny, and he had an adorable little sister named Eliana

She knew I would come to her house because of my family situation so she didn't mind at all

We kept walking to his house, and once we got inside, his mom and sister had a huge smile on their face

"Hola cariño como has estado," his mom asked me how I was doing "bueno muy bueno" being Benny's best friend. Of course, I knew spanish

"Eso es buena mija" our conversation was interrupted when I heard a familiar voice and someone ran up to me full speed hugging me

"Y/nnn, I missed you so much," Eliana said in her adorable little voice. Eliana was 5 and the tiniest cutest child ever

"Can we go now?" Benny asked me in a whiny voice

"Not with that tone,"

"Pleasee," he was begging at this point. "Fine, I guess." I stopped hugging Eliana, and Benny practically dragged me to his room

He closed his door. "So what now?" he asked "Oh I dont know."

After 10 seconds of utter silence, "How was your day?" he quietly asked

"Oh, I mean, it was fine. How was yours?"

"Well it was fine but I'm excited about finally being able to play at the sandlot all day everyday this summer" he said "Well yeah that's gonna be fun" I stopped talking to him and pulled out a book from my bag

To Kill a Mockingbird

"Really, you have to read. Maybe we should go outside and do something, " he complained yet again

"Benny, you were just complaining about coming to your room. Let me read a few pages, and then we can do something, " I suggested

"Ok, I guess," he mumbled

After reading 10 pages, my reading was interrupted

"Ok, you're done reading c'mon." he pulled me out of his room and told his mom we were leaving

We walked outside, and I immediately asked, "So now that we're outside, what do you plan on doing?"

"We could go to the park or something," he suggested "Ok well I'm gonna beat you there." After I said that, I started running fast towards the park. It wasn't that far maybe a 5 minute walk or so, but since we were running, we could maybe get there in 3 minutes

After running for 3 minutes straight, I beat Benny there

"Haha, I beat Benny Rodriguez, the 'fastest kid' in our neighborhood." I put quotation marks around the fastest kid because we all knew I was faster, but I never ran, so people really didn't know

"Ah whatever y/n"

I hopped onto the swing and began swinging back and forth

It was like this for a while. Comfortable silence.

We ditched the swings and went onto the slide, but we didn't slide down. We left our feet dangling on the slide

We asked questions back and forth. "What are 3 things that make you happy?" he asked me

"You and the boys, your family, and maybe books," I answered thoughtfully

"Books really out of everything and everyone in the whole world," he questioned

"Well, I like books ok, now where is your happy place?"

"The sandlot definitely," he said right away, "saw that one coming," I to which he laughed at

"Oh, Benny, it's 8:30, we should start heading back."

"Ok, but I'm gonna win this time." After he said that, he slid down and started running

I began running after him, and after 30 seconds, I caught up and laughed right in his face and began running even faster

We finally got to his house, and I stopped running

"H-ho-how do you do it?" Benny asked out of breath. "Well, face it, I'm just better," I say, not out of breath, unlike him

"Ok, I will admit, you maybe be better," he said, finally catching his breath

"Yeah, you know it," I say mockingly

I went inside his house, grabbed my bag, said goodbye, and went home

I slept heavily that night, excited to go to the sandlot tomorrow and play baseball

The first chapter is done after about 4 days of working on it. I literally have some homework, but I'm not gonna do it and cram it all in the morning.
