SAMANTHAS POV
Mitch and I arrived back at the safe house at around two am. We got out of the van and I had noticed two other cars parked in the front. Knowing exactly who's vehicles they belonged to.
"Shit... Irene's here. My dad must've noticed we left." I said as I held the laptop in my hand and ran my other hand through my hair in distress. Mitch walked up beside me and sighed. "Well, lets get this over with."
Mitch and I walked up to the door, he held it open as we waltzed inside. Immediately my father, Irene, and her men snapped their head towards us.
"You two! Where have you been? What is this?!" My father raged at me, pointing a finger at the laptop that I held. I hesitated to answer him, I looked at Mitch to see what he was thinking. He gave me a 'what do we do?' look.
I turned my attention back to everyone who stood in the room. I sighed as I decided to tell my father the truth, there was no point in lying when Irene was here. "We went after Sharif..." "You did what?" My dad snapped again, "What the hell is wrong with you two? This was your idea wasn't it?!" Now he was screaming at Mitch. "No! It was both of our ideas dad!"
I earned a cold stare from my father. Mitch remained silent, you could tell he didn't know what he should say to make the situation better. The room fell silent, but thankfully Irene stepped up. "So I'm assuming that's Sharif's computer?" She asked, pointing to object in my arms.
"Yes, Mitch and I retrieved it." I gave her the laptop and she passed it to one of the CIAs that she brought along. My father grabbed my arm, dragging me into the room that I stayed in, Mitch following after us.
"Sit.both of you." We listened and sat on the bed. "You disobeyed a direct order." My father continued, looking at Mitch and pacing back in forth. "No,we made a decision to pursue the target, and we completed the mission. Isn't that what you wanted us to do? Isn't that our job?" Mitch questioned,he didn't understand the importance of what not following orders meant to my dad.
Not following orders means you get killed, and as much as my father didn't make it personal, he still didn't want anyone to die.
"No! Your fucking job is to do what I fucking tell you to do!" He slammed his fist against the wall of the bedroom. It made me slightly jump, I had never, truly, seen my father this upset. Although, I understood where he was coming from.
I kept my gaze in my lap, not wanting to receive my fathers wrath even though I know it would come to me next.
"And you." He pointed his finger at me, "I thought I taught you better Samantha. You know what happens when you don't follow orders! Why can't you just listen to what I tell you for once?!"
I sighed, he was right. This was the second time I failed to follow directions on this mission and I've already been shot once. All I wanted to do was get revenge for my best friends death, he deserved it. I know I shouldn't let it get personal but I deeply cared for Victor and it sucks for him not to be here.
Mitch looked at me while I got scolded . He could probably sense that I was uncomfortable and wanted to get out of this situation, so,again, he took over. "What would you prefer us to do then, sir? Huh? Let him go? That piece of shit?"
Stan took his attention over to Mitch and once he was about to start yelling again, Irene called him over.
Thank you Irene Kennedy.
My father left the room and it got quiet. I let out the air that I had held onto for so long and placed my face in my hands.
"Hey, what's wrong?" The boy sitting next to me asked. The bed shifted as he scooted closer to me. "We shouldn't have gone Mitch, this was a mistake." I said as I kept my head buried in my hands. "Don't say that, we survived, we got the laptop. That's all that matters. Now we have the evidence to find our guy."
Mitch could probably tell that he wasn't really helping since I hadn't moved from my position. He gave up with trying to reassure me and decided on just rubbing my back in soothing circles.
His touch made me shiver slightly. I would be lying if I said that I hadn't thought about having Mitch's hands on me once or twice, but I can't keep thinking about things like this, especially in a situation like this.
Having any type of relationship with a recruit is strictly prohibited. Plus is way too unprofessional and I was only here for a mission, not to be all lovey dovey with someone.
I heard the sound of someone's footsteps come into the room. I looked up to see Annika looking down at us. "I'm guessing this was all your plan Samantha? No wonder your fathers disappointed, you can't follow a simple order and you brought down a recruit with you." She said, emphasizing on her words as she crossed her arms.
God this bitch was about to get it. "What the hell is it to you?" I stood up, overpowering her with my height. I could kick this girls ass if I wanted to, and trust me, I really do feel like it. Sadly, before I could punch the living shit out of her, Mitch broke it up. "Okay Annika you can leave now."
She looked at Mitch in disbelief and huffed. The girl glanced at me before taking her bag and walking to the room she stayed in. "What a bitch" I mumbled and turned away.
Then, my father stepped back in once again. "You two are lucky Irene likes you. We're going to Rome first thing in the morning, have your bags packed." With that, he exited. You could tell he was still pissed off by the tone of his words.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, I was stressed out from everything that has happened the past two days.
"I guess I should go pack..." Mitch said with a sigh, I nodded in agreement and he started to walk out.
"Wait-" he turned around to see that I had latched into his arm to stop him from walking away, I cliche thing to do, I know.
"When you're done, can you come back?" "Yeah, sure." I let go of his muscular arm, he left to go to the room that he stayed in. I wasn't exactly sure why I wanted him to come back, but I felt like I needed someone's company. Considering he was my only 'friend' right now, I guess it would be him.
TEN MINUTES LATER
I finished my packing and plopped onto the bed. I was extremely exhausted, mentally and physically. The feelings were slowly consuming me,and I kept replying Victor's death in my head.
I should've known something was going to happen.
I snapped back to reality when I heard a knock on the door. It was Mitch, "Hey."
I didn't say anything back, instead I turned my head back to stare up at the ceiling. I heard the door close and lock, guessing Mitch didn't want anyone to come in. Through the corner of my eye I could see his presence come towards me. "Samantha, if this is about your dad, don't take it so hard. I'm sure he's-" "No...no. It's not about my father." I shook my head.
Right now that was sort of the thing was last on my list. I cared more about Victor than disobeying an order.
"What's wrong then?" The man said as he sat next to me, like before, and looked down at me. I didn't know if I wanted to open up to Mitch. After all, he was my recruit, I was supposed to be looking after him.
After me not saying anything for a few moments he spoke up. "It's Victor, Isn't it?" I slowly nodded in agreement. "I just- I just wish I could've done something." I choked on the words that spilled out of my mouth .
God how could I be letting Mitch see me like this. "I just can't believe that actually he's gone."
I could feel my eyes beginning to water, but I resisted the urge to cry. No way in hell was I going to get even more emotional in front of my recruit.
I didn't want to make eye contact with the man sitting next to my lying body, so I kept my gaze up to the ceiling. This is so embarrassing.
"Samantha, I'm sorry, but there's nothing you could've done. We had no idea that guy knew what we were up to."
MITCHS POV
I tried to comfort the girl as best as I could. It had been over two years since I had to deal with someone else's emotions and I wasn't fairly good at it.
Laying down next to her, I took Sam's hand, that laid across her stomach, into my own and rubbed it with my thumb.
She lightly squeezed it as I took my other hand and placed it on her chin. With my two fingers, I moved Samanthas face to meet mine. I'll be honest I wasn't completely aware of my actions right now, but I hated seeing Sam like this.
Her eyes scanned my face, seeing what my intentions were. Moving my hand from her chin to her cheek, I cupped her soft tenderness.
She relaxed into my hand after being so tense with my hands grazing over her face. I could tell that she had never really been touched before just by how unease she was.
My mind had stopped thinking by now and I pulled the sad girl close to me. Neither of us didn't say anything and she didn't objectify my actions. Instead she let me move her body to meet mine.
I held her in my arms for awhile. I don't really know why I kept her there or even put her there in the first place. Being on a mission, I shouldn't really be cuddling up with my trainer. I should be focusing on my next move.
Although, this idea had ran across my mind a couple times, having this specific girl in my arms.
After awhile of not saying any words, I noticed that she was shivering. "You're freezing." I said softly, as I ran my hand up and down her arm. "Sorry..." she said as she tried to move away from me. I didn't want to let her go but I think it's probably for the best.
"Here, get some sleep. We'll have to be ready to leave in a couple hours."
I got up, letting Samantha get comfortable under the blankets of the bed. She didn't bother on changing into different clothes. "Thanks Mitch." I nodded at her, to let her know that it was no problem.
As I went to leave, Sam had stopped me once again . "Mitch." I faced towards the girl that was laying in bed, facing my direction . "Could you maybe...stay here with me?" I was startled by her words. She wanted me to stay the rest of the night?
"Oh,uhm...sure." It took me a few seconds to finally answer her, but when I did, I walked back to the bed and slipped off my sneakers.
Samantha scooted over and I got in next to her. Again not thinking, I opened my arms for her to lay in. She accepted and laid her head on my chest.
At this point I didn't really know what to do. I just decided to rub her back, in attempt to soothe her and make her fall asleep.
After awhile of us just laying there, I noticed that the girl in my arms had drifted off into a deep slumber . I wasn't planning on leaving her, so i closed my eyes and tried to get some sleep as well.
