Tonight...tonight I'm going to a fireworks display!

It really has been a boring summer vacation. For the first time, I'll go out with real friends.

I stared at myself in the mirror, I don't look that bad. This is enough, I don't plan on pleasing anyone anymore.

(A/N: Change the color if you'd like. Y'all ik it's a hanfu. Y/n just chose to be different today 🥺)

I won't be watching from behind them, because I finally found some real friends who I can watch the fireworks with, who I can stand next to proudly.

They may not be many...but that's fine, you don't need that many friends to feel accepted.

I think that alone is enough for me to enjoy this whole summer vacation.

Dusk was falling, the mosquitos were out, goose bumps were on my arms from the evening chill. The green shrubbery now looking almost black, silhouetted.

Colors muted, as if they had been drained away by an invisible hand, as if the artists' palette had been changed.

The shadows were now twice as long as themselves, the air was damp and cool smelling faintly of a car's exhaust fumes.

The sun dipped lower in the sky until the trees that lines the lane stood as black statues silhouetted against the darkening sky, slowly their shadows melted away into the blackness of night.

"Good evening everyone." I greeted them. They waved back and gave me a kind smile that I would always receive when I enter the student council room.

"Happy birthday, Y/n-chan!"

"Happy birthday to the best Historian ever."

"Happy birthday, L/n"

"Thank you, everyone." I thanked the three of them. They actually remembered my birthday...

"You brought your camera?" the President asked, staring at the camera that I held in my hands.

"Yes, I want to take pictures with everyone for memories. I'll call this 'Our Very First Trip'." I mumbled.

They all looked at each other gave me a grin as they all ruffled my hair. We all waited for Kaguya-san's arrival.

" 'I'm sorry. I won't be able to go today. I'm really sorry'. " Chika-san read the text message she had received from Kaguya-san.

I grabbed my phone from my bag and checked Kaguya-san's twitter. This is the only social media platform she has.

"I want to go see the fireworks with everyone." I read, showing them my phone screen. I'm guessing this had something to do with her family.

I want to spend my birthday with everyone. If even one person is missing, then my birthday wouldn't be complete.

"I won't accept this! We're bringing Kaguya-san to see the fireworks with us! I'll even beat up her bodyguards!" I shouted.

They all turned to me in surprise before smirking. We all discussed our plan, our plan to get Kaguya-san out of that bird's cage and have fun with us.

The President dashed off with his bike to fetch Kaguya-san. He rides his bike to school, he'll get there for sure.

"Miss Kaguya!"

"She may be around there. Please stay here, Fujiwara-senpai. Watch over Y/n for me!" Ishigami-kun shouted before running off.

Everyone is giving it their all to make sure we see the fireworks together with Kaguya-san. I can't just sit here and pray for them.

I grabbed my phone and searched up all possible locations for the next fireworks. Like, when it will end and where the next firework showcase will be located.

Kaguya-san must be on that street by now if she's taking a taxi which I'm sure she is. I'll even hack the street light system.

"Chika-san, did you bring a laptop with you?" I asked.

"Yeah, I brought it to watch some dog videos with everyone after the fireworks. Here." she handed the laptop to me.

I ran over to a place where I can place the laptop on and began to work on it. The next fireworks display will be happening at Chiba.

I'll hack the system there. I'll get rid of the cars there and change the color of the street lights.

I dialled a familiar number.

"It's been a while, what would you like me to do for you?"

"Drive us to Chiba. Identify all individuals, vehicles, and buildings involved in this commotion, knowing you, you're going to be driving recklessly. Send reimbursements for double the damage costs. Things are about to get messy."

"Gotcha"

We'll make it, Y/n. Don't panic.

𝙺𝚊𝚐𝚞𝚢𝚊'𝚜 𝙿𝙾𝚅

We're supposed to meet up at Takeshiba Wharf. The main streets are really crowded. If I run down a backstreet, I should be able to just make it.

I'm sure I'll meet up with them!

The first younger student I've helped for a while...

The first student who told me to hold my head high because there are people who are waiting for you to fall.

The first person who became my first friend...

The first person I like...

I'm in that circle of people!

All summer, the only thing I've been thinking about is how happy I would be if I got to gaze at those beautiful fireworks together with my favorite people, and how wonderful it would be.

God...this summer, I don't need love or romance! So...so, at least let me be together with them!

My attempt was in vain since the fireworks display was already over before I knew it...

Oh, that's right. Nothing ever goes my way...

I wonder if they enjoyed the fireworks...

𝟹𝚛𝚍 𝙿𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚘𝚗 𝙿𝙾𝚅

Shinomiya starts crying, but then suddenly Shirogane finds her and grabs her along.

Fujiwara, Y/n, and Ishigami are already waiting for her in a car driven by someone who was wearing a suit.

"Miss Kaguya!" Fujiwara exclaimed.

"She'll be driving us to catch the fireworks happening in Chiba. She used it work for me. Everyone, hop in!" Y/n shouted.

"Is it possible to get to Chiba in 20 minutes?!" Fujiwara began to doubt this.

"I've already hacked into the street lights and have gained full access. We'll make it. Speed up!" Y/n demanded.

"Gotcha, Lady Y/n." the driver smirked, speeding up beyond the speed limit.

"President, I can't see anything outside!" Fujiwara exclaimed.

"The Aqua-Line is an undersee tunnel! Of course you can't see anything!" Shirogane stated.

"A sign for Umihotaru service parking! We're surfacing!" Ishigami announced.

"Let us be in time!" everyone prayed.

On their way to Chiba, the fireworks had started once they exited the Aqua-Line. They manage to see the fireworks together.

There were no cars in sight, all the stop lights were green. It all went according to plan.

Fireworks burst above, searing their brilliant light and vivacious colour onto their retinas.

Each one draws a pattern into the sky, something unique and breathtaking, never to be repeated exactly no matter how many are ignited and sent to their sky-bound destiny.

The fireworks burn with impatience, everything at the speed of a camera flash.

They send hot sparks into the cool evening air, soaring until they are extinguished to blackness.

The fireworks are chaos and predictability; their explosive gifts finding their own time and space to own.

As they do, they are the spectators, the ones seeing their blazing trails arc above.

There's something about fireworks that warms Shinomiya even in the cold, as if their stray sparks passed into her blood.

Y/n stared at the two students in front of her, specifically, Shirogane and Shinomiya.

Fireworks burst through the dark night, fiery blooms amongst the stars. Ishigami is less interested in the display than in watching Y/n's expressions, how they light up her face just as she smiles, like a perfect real life photograph.

The sound of his heartbeat is so noisy. He knew that everyone came to see the fireworks, but he just couldn't take his eyes off Y/N's smile.

𝙸𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚐𝚊𝚖𝚒'𝚜 𝙿𝙾𝚅

I couldn't find my voice. I felt my cheeks flushed hot, and my stomach was heavy.

My heart pounded in my throat, threatening to break out. My eyes wandered around.

Mine stayed locked on her. How many love songs had I heard that said,' She takes my breath away'? Now that line made a lot sense. My body numbed as I watched her eyes sparkle.

It's a scene that I will never forget.

After the summer holidays are over and the second semester begins, the President and Kaguya-san are too shy and self-conscious to face each other,

"I'll leave the two lovebirds alone." I mumbled, leaving the room with Ishigami-kun.

Their bashfulness created a situation which leads to the cutest, awkward conclusion of this chapter.
