"Ka-Kaguya! You finally bought a smartphone?" Chika-san gasped. Took her long enough...
"Well, after my previous phone broke-" she got interrupted.
"But you were so obstinate, you were like, 'I don't need it.', 'I've been getting along fine with this for years'. Not buying a new phone was a point of pride for you!" she stammered.
"Welcome to civilized society." Chika-san finally regained her composure and welcomed her, tears were visible.
"I wasn't that into my flip phone. Um, I installed LINE, but..." Kaguya-san got interrupted once again.
"Then, let's exchange IDs!" Chika-san exclaimed.
We are in the age of information technology. I believe Kaguya-san was forced to get a smartphone because flip phones have gone extinct.
Everyone know sthat a smartphone is an essential accessory for a high school student.
From making plans, to hanging out, to texting, everything happens via phone.
When you don't get a reply right away, it seems like a matter of life and death.
Some students even confess their love through a social media app, I believe. Becoming a LINE friend is the ticket to love in this day and age in Japan.
"Maybe, humans are creatures that never learn." Ishigami-kun muttered.
"Is that philosophy?" Chika-san questioned.
"President, can I have your LINE ID?" Kaguya-san requested. Kaguya-san has been acting weird ever since her phone broke.
I recall seeing her walking around the school while taking pictures of it. Sometimes, she would even ask us to group up and take a picture together.
Due to her flip phone being old, I'm sure she wasn't able to recover the photos she had taken.
She must be upset about that. If my camera dropped, I would be devastated since it has pictures that I taken of the Student Council members.
"Sure. My ID, huh? Of course we can exchange IDs." President agreed, taking out his phone and exchanging IDs with her.
Since he made a weird expression after he adding Kaguya-San as his friend, he must be realized her behavior.
"Secretary Fujiwara, is Shinomiya acting strange today?" President questioned our Secretary.
"You finally picked up on that?" Chika-san scoffed.
"That's what we've been talking about." I told the President. I've been discussing about that matter with the others.
"Huh? Really?" he sweatdropped.
"What's got her feeling down?" Ishigami-kun asked.
"Maybe a relative passed?" President guessed.
"Or she has a stomachache." Chika-san gave her idea as to why Kaguya-san is down.
"Or she stayed up late playing video games." Ishigami-kun said.
"You're the only one who does that." I pointed out, turning to face the four of them.
"I have a feeling it has something to do with her broken phone yesterday." I stated.
"I don't know. I can't picture that." Iino-chan argued.
"Kaguya's family policy is not to talk to outsiders about their problems. So, maybe it's not a good idea to even spitball about it." Chika-san said.
"Yeah." President agreed. Everyone is worried about her.
"A photo captures a memory in print. It treasures the fun times or even the sad times. That's why a picture is worth a thousand words." I mentioned.
"Maybe, she'll bring it up herself, so why don't we interact normally with her for a while?" I suggested.
"You're probably right." Ishigami-kun agreed. I nodded my head in approval of her suggested.
Our decision was to act normal. We decided not to treat her like a fragile flower. This might seem callous to an outside, but actually...it was the right thing to do.
"A message?" I mumbled, taking my phone out and reading the notification on the screen.
"I just created a group for the student council, so join in." the President announced. Oh, I see what he's doing.
"Okay!"
"Roger that."
"Gotcha."
"So, you didn't have a group before now, huh? Thank goodness. I thought maybe I was the only one who didn't get an invite." Iino-chan sighed in relief.
"I wouldn't do that to you." President sweatdropped.
"While we're at it, let's make a shared album! We can upload whatever photos we want!" I informed, trying to brighten Kaguya-san's situation.
"Then...I'm going to upload the photos from the sports festival and some other important pictures." Ishigami-kun informed.
"Is it okay if I send over all of my photos from Snow?" Iino-chan asked, I nodded.
"I'm going to upload a bunch of photos from a ton of events that happened in school. I even have photos of us together." I informed, uploading them into the album.
"Okeydokey!" Chika-san exclaimed.
"President decided beforehand to make a group only when you got a smartphone." Chika-san winked at Kaguya-san.
"He said he didn't want you to be left out." I teased, sitting next to her with a smug look on my face.
"But this is good timing. Kaguya-san wasn't able to transfer data from her old phone and a phone without memorable photos is...sad." I pointed out.
What Kaguya-san wanted to hold on to was the record of the ordinary days she'd shared with a certain someone. Her photos were proof of that.
Kaguya-san was feeling down because she had lost all of those pictures that she had taken herself.
However, if you share your precious memories with others...if they are truly precious...the people who share those memories with you will want to hold on the them too.
That is why I love my job as the Historian of the Student Council. It's because I get to take photos of the things that I treasure, I enjoy my job.
"There are so many..." Kaguya-san gawked.
"That's because we took so many!" I exclaimed.
"When my flip phone got demolished, I thought I'd lost all of them. But instead, I gained a lot more than I had before." Kaguya-san smiled at us.
A bright smile that we had never seen before. A smile that was so genuine. A smile...that made me smile as well.
"Shinomiya-senpai, didn't that model just come out? Lucky!" Ishigami-kun pointed out.
"That's the model with the smile detection feature, right? You should give it a try." I suggested.
"Eh? How do I do it?" Kaguya-san asked.
"Just like this." Ishigami-kun said, placing the phone down in front of Kaguya-san.
"Now smile, Kaguya!" Chika-san ushered.
"It won't take a photo until you smile." Iino-chan reminded.
"Exactly." I joined in.
"You too, Y/n? But I'm used to looking serious for photos." Kaguya-san's words were muffled since Chika-san tried to get Kaguya-san to smile.
"You too, President." Ishigami-kun called the President over for the photo.
"Okay." the President stood up and we all got ready for a group photo.
"All right, everyone, big smiles!" Chika-san exclaimed.
This scene seems familiar, but at the same time...it seems different.
Oh yeah, I took a picture of them, but I wasn't included in it because they asked me to take the picture.
But this time, it's different. I'm actually included in the photo. I'm no longer excluded from everything. I'm part of something.
"Cheese!" we all said in unison as we formed a smile.

Extras!
"Why is there a whole album of Y/n-chan in here?!" Chika-san exclaimed. They all turned to Ishigami-kun which also made me turn to him.
"By 'other important stuff', you meant pictures of Y/n?" Kaguya-san and Iino-chan both deadpanned.
"You're hopeless, Ishigami..." the President released a dissapointed sigh.
